– Alternate Uniforms: I have been told the Oklahoma football team is planning to work in an alternate uniform again at some point in the coming 2015 season. There are a few options that are currently on the table, though, we are told none of which have necessarily been finalized as of yet. But a couple of the options I have heard about so far sound pretty slick, and if they are approved will almost certainly get the attention of recruits.

One of the options on the table is an all black alternate uniform. I was also told there is an option with an all white matte helmet. – (Super K)

– Abdul Adams: This was included in today’s daily news post earlier this morning, but on the off chance you missed it I wanted to quickly address it here as well.

https://twitter.com/Abdul_Adams7/status/572918894119149568

This is coming from what many believe to be OU’s top 2016 running back target, who has been very complimentary of the Sooners after they offered a while back but has still yet to make it to Norman. And while it certainly wouldn’t be the first time a prospect has committed to a school without having visited, it’s probably not out of line for one to assume there’s a chance — assuming Adams were to commit prior to making an OU visit — this may not be a good thing with respect to OU’s chances. TO BE CLEAR I’m not saying anything definitive one way or the other, as I am always very hesitant to read anything into somewhat innocuous tweets from high schoolers. But we are working to try and track down more information on this either from Adams himself or those close to his recruitment. – (Jordan)

– Chandler Garrett: If you’ve been regularly checking our OU Jr. Day #2 visitor list for updates, you may have seen that we added a 2016 quarterback — something a number of you have been lamenting the absence of for some time now — earlier this morning.

Brandon is hoping to speak with the OK Preps 6’5″ 215 pound Mustang product later today, so hopefully we’ll have more of a substantial update for you soon. For now, however, there is certainly plenty to like about Garrett’s game. As you’ll see in the very first play on his highlight tape above, even for a kid of his considerable size he’s certainly no statue back there. And he can definitely fling it around the field.

To date Lincoln Riley’s only two QB offer have been to two highly touted national prospects, so it will be rather interesting to see if, coming out of the weekend (or shortly thereafter), Garrett doesn’t leave Norman with an OU offer in hand. – (Jordan)

– Tyler Tamar Vaughns: We all know by now that one of the primary reasons Dennis Simmons was brought to Norman was because of his experience in an ‘Air Raid’ system. But another important reason for his hiring were the recruiting connections he possesses in the talent rich state of California, a state in which the Sooners have also already established a pretty decent foothold. So when I heard the former Washington State WR coach, now OU outside WR coach, was the lead recruiter for highly touted 2016 WR Tyler Tamar Vaughns (LaPuente, CA), it made a ton of sense.

The 6’2″ 175 pound wideout is one of the top prospects at his position in this 2016 class, and holds an OU offer he previously received from Jay Norvell. However, I had a chance to catch up with him recently to see where OU stands both just in general, but also following the coaching change at his position. And it was apparently early on in our conversation that it isn’t just Simmons who is making the Cali product a top priority for the Sooners.

“I’m hearing from a different OU coach everyday,” Vaughns said. He went on to say, “just by talking to them I can tell they are cool guys, and I can’t wait to meet them in person.” Which may lead one to believe that a future visit to OU could be in the works, so I asked if that were indeed the case. Vaughns said the plan, as of right now, is to try and get to Norman ‘some time in August.’ – (Brandon)

UPDATE (11:04 am): Another prospect who will be in attendance for this weekend’s Jr. Day #2 is 2016 OL Jacob Todora (Frisco, TX).

Classic ‘quick’ guard in the old strong/weak scheme. Pulling guard that knows how to explode into people on screens and pulls. Truly knows how to use his head as a weapon when blocking. DEs and LBs will come to dread him pulling on the counter play and getting out on screens. Just that rare guy who is a weapon at the OL spot who sets the tone of physicality that his entire team can feed on. Great size for a left guard. Not a tackle due to height requirements, but gives you a hyper-athletic, physical guard prospect. Very underrated. Really love everything about his game.  He’s a kill-shot fullback in a guard’s body. – (JY)

Todora tells us he currently holds offers from Illinois and SMU and is beginning to hear from Arizona State, Stanford, Texas, Arkansas and others. Again, he will be at Oklahoma’s Jr. Day this weekend and seems very excited to hear from OU. – (Alex)

– UPDATE (11:17 am): 2016 CB & OU legacy/offer, Jared Mayden, reaffirming what TFB told you around three weeks ago in an Open Post shortly after his visit to Norman for OU’s Jr. Day #1.

https://twitter.com/MaydenII/status/573168509766656001

– UPDATE (11:21 am): Scout’s Chris Smith is reporting 2016 CB Nygel Edmonds (Chattanooga, TN) picked up an offer from the Sooners yesterday.

– UPDATE (4:15 pm): To say 2016 OK Preps QB Chandler Garrett (Mustang, OK) has gone under the radar thus far is a considerable understatement. However, that seems to be less the case of late with Wyoming, Missouri, Arizona State, Tulsa all showing interest. And with a recent invite to their second Junior Day even, you can now add Oklahoma to the list as well. In fact, both the Sooners and another local school, Tulsa, have a previous relationship with Garrett. Although it just so happened to be with each school’s respective previous offensive coordinator.

Meanwhile, things changed for Garrett on Tuesday night after he received said invite to OU’s Jr. Day from Sooners OC, Lincoln Riley. The OU assistant has been in contact with Garrett’s coach, and when I spoke with the strong-armed QB earlier today he said Coach Riley “was interested in meeting me, and said he’s heard a lot of good things about me.”

When you see Garrett’s film (posted above) you can see why Riley would be interested. Tall (nearly 6’5″) with the athleticism of a much smaller player, strong arm, that is accompanied by a high football IQ.

Garrett previously attended one of Oklahoma State’s Jr. Days, but soon after his visit the Pokes offered a different 2016 quarterback. It’s not out of the question, though, that he might be next on Riley’s list behind and Dwayne Haskins Jr. and KJ Costello. Garrett has a lot of the tools you look for and already plays in an ‘Air Raid’ style offense. Add that to the extensive training he gets from football guru Joe Dickinson, and you have a gym/film rat that most coaches would love.

It will be interesting to see if Riley chooses to extend an offer this weekend with Garrett on campus. If that were to happen, it would be even more interesting as to whether or not the OU coaches would accept a commitment (assuming an on-the-spot commitment would even be a possibility, which certainly isn’t a guarantee by any stretch) with an offer like Haskins still hanging out there. I suppose at this point having options wouldn’t be a bad thing. – (Brandon)

Alternate unis is always a bit of a touchy subject for OU fans, so I’ll be interested to see how this goes.

      I dig it.

Why not… with all the changes the last few months..might as well continue the theme

    • ouwooferman says:

If they would pick up the Shield on the state flag with OU locked logo in the middle, they will be on to something .

    • JB says:

I don’t like them. You don’t mess with perfection, you don’t fix what is not broken.

    • mgcsooner says:

Hey I’ve got an idea…I see several Sooners do edits for the recruits showing them in OU unis, etc…Why not a SoonerChallenge to those guys to develop an alternate and submit–you guys can throw out the ridiculous or bad ones, but then publish your top picks and let the fans vote on it! It would be fun for all–I think 🙂

  • Brady Vardeman says:

Wonder if they’ll ditch the ‘Bring The Wood’ thing altogether. A matte white helmet sounds dope. All-black, however, does not.

    • Jordan Esco says:

I think it’s hard to judge before we actually see anything, although I’ll admit I tend to be more open to this type of stuff than I feel others typically are.

    • Soonerfandave84 says:

I liked the alt white helmet last year, the rest of it not so much

    • Ryan Little says:

All-matte white with a slick “OU” on the side would pretty damn cool. But I might be in the minority…

    • Fear The Magic says:

I for one certainly hope they ditch it. I never liked them at all.

  • Lincoln Hawk says:

I’m all for the alternate uni’s as long as it doesn’t get out of control like Oregon. Once or twice a year for big games is a good idea IMO.

    • Robertson / Robertson 2016 says:

Or like OSUcks and the Waco Whiners. Pretty soon those two programs will add a “Fashion Coach” to their staffs.

  • Fear The Magic says:

Chandler Garrett looks very legit. Great legs and moves for a kid that size.

  • Zack says:

For me you can’t beat an all black uni. But we don’t have black in our color scheme so it doesn’t make sense for OU to do all black. Now if they want to introduce black as a third color going forward then I would be on board with it.

  • Robertson / Robertson 2016 says:

It used to be that home teams wore dark colors and away teams light colors, so that viewers could distinguish between one team from the other on the television. Now we’re talking matte. Not a bad thing, in my opinion. But my goodness has football come a long way.

    • Soonerfandave84 says:

at least they’ll have the shoes to tie their uniforms together 😉

      • Robertson / Robertson 2016 says:

At least. And just think, this sport used to be dudes choosing sides in a cow pasture.

        • Soonerfandave84 says:

Yeah, I have no issue with different uniforms but its funny that it seems that its almost a necessity for recruits these days

    • rphokc says:

……they flipped the home/away uni’s in the nhl couple of yrs ago and I now have to remind myself where the game is being played ……made no sense to do it

  • Shelby is a Patriot says:

That all-black uniform bit is scary.

    • SCKSChief says:

      Have you seen it?

      Scary good or scary bad?

      • Shelby is a Patriot says:

No, but I’ve always hated when teams that don’t have black as a School color use all-black uniforms or black alt jerseys, whichever.

        • SCKSChief says:

I can agree with that. Kinda like Stanford? I really like schools to stick to their official color scheme.

    • Robertson / Robertson 2016 says:

All-black uniforms are always scary to store clerks and bank tellers.

  • SCKSChief says:

Love the alternate unis. Really liked that concept helmet that is floating around with the homage to the state flag, even though I know its just a concept image.

  • Ryan says:

Garrett has 0 offers. 0. Not even Tulsa or other little schools. If OU offers I will be very disappointed.

  • SCKSChief says:

What’s the deal with Mayden? Is this a good thing or a bad thing?

    • Soonerfandave84 says:

4* CB whose Dad played hoops for OU.

    • Ryan says:

Great thing. OU wasn’t in his top 3 before. Now he visited OU and he’s wide open

      • SCKSChief says:

Okay. I wasn’t aware if OU had ruined his recruitment or if it was like you just described. Thanks!

    • Jordan Esco says:

Good, for OU anyway. And, again, really no different than what Iinked to in the update above from TFB three weeks ago. He had a Top 3, which OU wasn’t in, but that is no longer the case.

    • BoomerDave says:

Personally, after hearing him on with James Hale, I think he is ours to lose. His dad James played for Kelvin and he has grown up hearing about about OU his whole life. Also stated that his dad is really pushing him to OU.

  • Robertson / Robertson 2016 says:

That Todora kid is NASTY on the pull. He plays like my mama says I played. For example:

Mama replay: “Yeah, my boy was so mean. I seen him knock the ear pads right out of a boy’s helmet.”

Actual replay: I got tangled up with another dude’s legs on kick-off. We both lost an ear pad when we fell in a knot of gangly arms and legs. We then spent a few awkward sections trying to figure which one belonged to whom.

  • Sooner Ray says:

I would rather see an all gold uni with crimson helmet and numbers than all black. Black has been done too many times.

    • SCKSChief says:

I’m kind of wary of gold. I agree that black is over-used. Grey has become something of the new black, but maybe a shade of gray (gun metal?) could be another route other than traditional crimson for a home uni. I still LOVE the concept of going full-on storm trooper on the road.

    • boomersooner says:

well what if it was tuxedo tshirt black? that’d be pretty sweet. fire some names and numbers on some tuxedo tshirts. camo would be awesome as well. love when the padres bring those bad boys out on thursdays

    • Sooner 76 says:

Our colors are crimson and cream. I personally don’t want to see any other colors in the alternate uniforms. The alternate home uniform last year was pretty neat. Didn’t care for the red pants on the road unis–too similar to Nebraska.

      • Sooner Ray says:

When I say gold, I’m talking about the uniform from years ago as shown down below in a picture someone posted. It’s not new and was our color before we went to white.

    • rphokc says:

……..all gold?!………..add some glitter under the eyes, pink accent/trim and they could knock out breast ca and salute lgbt in one game

  • Sooner_Ace says:

    “He’s a kill-shot fullback in a guard’s body” Damn that is a good quote…..:)

  • Tipman says:

Do the brainiacs anticipate any commitments this weekend? Sorry if this has been asked already

    • Jordan Esco says:

I think one, maybe two are possible. Not really expecting any more than that at this point.

      • Robertson / Robertson 2016 says:

Hey, Jordan. Could JY or another Brainiac do a write-up and analysis of under-the-radar OL recruits? Especially the local kids. The big uglies don’t normally get the exposure, but I love seeing their film. Maybe start a new series: “Fat Boy Fridays”?

      • BoomerDave says:

Names of those who you think are possible, please. Personally, I feel that commitments this early are useless.

        • Jordan Esco says:

          Sylvie. Maybe Jefferson.

          • BoomerDave says:

Those would be two big pick ups. Still, can’t get too excited about these really early commitments seeing how few them ever stick it out to the end. See last year for example.

  • Kelly Gurbcock says:

I hope they offer Garrett, kid is a stud, been watching him play for several years now.

  • boomer-d says:

I really like Garrett at QB, he played good competition, is accurate and a play maker. Built for the college game also.

  • Tim Wilson says:

I don’t give a damn if they wear pink as long as they are winning while they are doing it.

  • Jeff says:

Need to be looking at more QB! Riley top 2 are not coming to OU

    • Jordan Esco says:

You read the actual post above, right?

    • BoomerDave says:

Isn’t this about 10 Open Posts in a row where you’ve posted the exact same thing? I have a strong feeling that Riley is looking at a bunch of QB’s right about now. Why the panic over it?

      • Jeff says:

Sad thing is everyone here wanted Kish fired but I would say he is out recruiting Riley to this point

        • Jed says:

I haven’t been following you. Who do you troll for again?

          • BoomerDave says:

Sadly, I think he is a Sooner fan, just one who doesn’t understand the importance of due diligence and proper evaluation. Heck, previously he said we should throw out 6-8 offers.

          • Jed says:

Well, it IS only about 335 days ’til NSD. I mean Kiffin has COMMITS who’ve been solid for ten years. (Mind you, that means they were committed to him about eight schools ago, but still).

          • Bob Edwards says:

He is the local Gerbil. Doesn’t really add anything except the little pellets he leaves here and there.

          • Jed says:

I’m having fun with “Gerbil” starting with a capital G.
            “Who’s that?”
            “The Gerbil”
“The Gerbil is coming! The Gerbil is coming!!”
            “ALL HAIL THE GERBIL!”

          • Bob Edwards says:

Might be time to get away from the keyboard. Go talk to real people. Breath the air outside. 🙂

          • Jed says:

Heading out now due to snow/road conditions. Fully intend on building a nice fire and kicking back for the balance of the day. Monitor email and work calls on various devices.
Perhaps ease into an adult beverage in a couple three hours.
(oh, and you ain’t seen nothing yet. some day soon, I’ll simply remove all the filters and go ‘undiluted feed’ onto the board. The stuff that goes on inside here that never sees the outside of my head is … interesting.)

        • BoomerDave says:

How in the hell do you know that? Exactly how many QB’s nationwide are committed right now. How many major football programs have a QB committed right now? Few, or even perhaps none. You’re freaking out over nothing. By summer, Riley will have his guy identified and committed. Mark my words.

    • Tucker says:

Being from the same area, (Yukon/Mustang) Mustang is a school that typically doesn’t get a lot of love/attention.

      • Andy Sundborg says:

Doesn’t Mustang also have a young OT that’s getting looks

        • Tucker says:

Last OL from Mustang I can think of was Tristan Hill but that was ’14 prospect. I’m not sure of anyone else or recent. Besides that other D1 prospects have been David Glidden, Josh Cooper, and Bronson Irwin. Now that I look at it I guess I could be under selling it, just think the lack of camp participation hurts both Yukon and Mustang athletes. But I guess you could say Mustang has 1 solid D1 prospect just about every other year or better.

  • Borba22 says:

Have yet to read the rest of the post, but NOOOOOOO to an all black alternate jersey!!

    • Cush Creekmont says:

WHY would OU want to incorporate one of oswho’s halloween, trick-or-treat, colors? Tweak the helmet, tweak the pants, shade the numbers, but for god’-sake let’s play up OUr heritage and history. Oregon needs gimmicks to make up for its 80 years of comically bad football. OU, Alabama, USC, ND, tOSU, Mich don’t need to have electric-green uniforms to compete. **Now sexat could actually improve that burned up, puke orange by changing to pea-green soup, but that’s a different story.

      • boomersooner says:

yeah. when people try to compare to oregon, it doesn’t compute. you have a company right down the street with umpteen employees and how many are there just for oregon’s sake? gotta be a lot for all those stinking unis. baylor just copied them. then you got gimmicky teams who just want to sell more stuff or try to keep up with the joneses. they have zip for tradition, so lets let them have the 412 uni combinations and i would be cool with a throwback for a change

      • J.K. Abbott says:

BOOM! SAWeet and bad a$$. Bring on the black.

        couldn’t agree more, Cush.

      • D Hunter Sanchez says:

It’s been said a million times here, now a million and one, 18-22 year old kids don’t care about the history of Oregon football or the lack there of…What they see now is a heisman winning QB, Pac 12 titles, flashy uniforms and a variety of them…speed to burn points being rung up…The uniforms are a big part of this for Oregon. Okie Light has orange and black nice…but all black with a white or my preference the red with white OU would be outstanding…

    • J.K. Abbott says:

Crimson and Black will be sharp. Really sharp. different schools that Ive been around had started incorporating black in their uni schemes. Black is a neutral color and goes with any color. Royal and Black. Boom ! Royal Crimson is sharp.

      • SoonerSpock says:

Have to hope you were not color blind lest we fear appearing to be the aggots. As I recall the pukes school colors are puke and black and I sure do not want to appear one of them. Next thing we will see here is some fans wanting to wear all burnt orange uniforms. Stupid is as stupid does.

        • BleedCrimson says:

nice Forrest Gump… not a fan of black… Crimson and Cream in any combination is okay with me…

        • J.K. Abbott says:

Huh? Sounds like a personal problem. Who gives a rip about the Pokes. They wear white. Same as the Sooners. And if you think fans will ever want to wear brunt orange then you have some issues.

  • Andy Sundborg says:

HM I have to admit the one time I saw Garrett was for a half against Union and I was unimpressed to say the least, but watching the video I it’s alot better than what I saw. Wonder if he was hurt?

    • Tucker says:

      It’s also Union.

      • Andy Sundborg says:

Well I’m also aware of that Tucker lol. I just didn’t see the zip on his passes that day that I’m seeing on his video

        • Tucker says:

lol, fair enough. Would it be fair to note that I am not the only one to point that out? 😀

          • Andy Sundborg says:

Oh I know believe me. Having played at Jenks many moons ago I know about Union

          • Tucker says:

That’s an intense rivalry. Think you and Union could agree to secede a championship… maybe once?

          • Andy Sundborg says:

It’s cyclical though admittedly this run has lasted longer than most. My freshman year was the year of that stud Lawton Ike team and my senior year we were the first team to win it at Jenks in 11 years so I do believe it will flip back someday soon

          • Tucker says:

Still feel the pain from when my hometown got crushed by Jenks in the state championship… ’97… 56-8… gruesome

        • thebigdroot says:

Was not my intent to insinuate you were. It was just a question since I wasn’t there to, wanted to know if the WR’s were getting open, was he running for his life because the OL was not blocking? That sort of thing.

    • Stephen Dale says:

its the difference in the level of the opposition………

  • Chris White says:

People wold blow a fuse if we used an all black uniform LOL, I have seen the white matte and I like it, even with a white glossy OU symbol

  • nicjams says:

I’m all for alternate uniforms, but for the love of God NO BLACK!! It’s a ridiculous fad that has been beaten to death. Keep your school’s original colors.

  • lebval15 says:

This is outrageous. It’s March already. There’s only 11 months left until signing day. Why don’t we have a dozen 4stars committed by now……..

  • nicjams says:

I’ve always been a big fan of monochrome uniforms. The Thunder wore some a couple years ago that were slick (image attached). If I had my way with an OU alternate, it would be solid white helmet/jersey/pants with white numbers and logos and a small amount of crimson for outlines.

    • thebigdroot says:

What image? 🙂 Wait you want White helmets, white pants and white numbers? Wouldn’t that make it kinda hard to see the numbers?

    • Robertson / Robertson 2016 says:

There’s another organization that pulls the all-white look. But the question is, Klan the Sooners pull it off? 🙂

    • PCSooner says:

Pretty sure NCAA has a rule now about contrasting numbers. Not sure if an outline makes it ok or not. But I know Duke and Kentucky both have basketball uniforms with most everything whited out with small blue outlines – except for the numbers which are solid blue.

      • nicjams says:

You’re probably right. I’ve never seen that rule though. Even still, red numbers would look alright.

        • J.K. Abbott says:

It’s a press box issue more then anything spotters for TV and Radio wouldn’t be able to see the numbers up so high in the press box.

      • nicjams says:

I looked up that rule. It’s kinda vague… Says that the numbers need to “contrast” with the white jersey.

      • J.K. Abbott says:

It cant be tone on Tone. Numbers have to be contrasting color. High school football has the same rules. The Thunder Uni’s numbers are tone on tone and wouldn’t work per NCAA rules.

    • J.K. Abbott says:

Black and Crimson will be bad a$$.

I also wonder if they will be ready in time for the Spring game.

    • JD says:

They should be ready by spring game…the weather won’t affect OUs ability to practice..they’ll go inside if needed

      • Stephen says:

Sorry I meant if they unveil the uniforms at or by spring game as I’m sure there will be recruits present.

        • JD says:

Oh..I see…I miss read that lol…I could see them having some new apparel ready by then but wouldn’t expect them to wear alt unis for the game

          • Stephen says:

Me either, I assume they get the manikins all dressed up or have concept drawings all laid out.

          • JD says:

All the pics I have seen so far of recruits is with the “bring the wood” alts

  • soonerborn says:

    alternate helmet????

  • Robertson / Robertson 2016 says:

Question: Do the kids still wear jockstraps? Or is that a part of the charm of the “throwback” uniform?

    • J.K. Abbott says:

No Jock straps like the old days. Most player wear girdles now. I remember in the old days initiation would be putting Icey Hot in the pups jock strap. You couldn’t get away with that now. hazing. That was 30 years ago.

      • Robertson / Robertson 2016 says:

That’s a good one. I remember ambushing unsuspecting underclassmen with the classic, “Hey, man. Is there a hole in my underwear?”

  • SoonerSpock says:

I am very hopeful we never see OU in black uniforms. I do not understand the desire to wear OSU and Tech’s school colors as alternate uniforms. OU’s colors are crimson and creme. If you want alternate uniforms were all creme on the road and crimson and creme at home.
Then try making them the traditional uniforms.

  • Soonerboyz says:

    Reynolds interview up on Soonersports..

    Opinions?

  • Jordan Esco says:

    Chandler Garrett update added

  • Shelby is a Patriot says:

I’m originally from the Mustang area so I hope Garrett gets an offer soon, whether it be from OU or not.

    • Steve Johns says:

I beleve the kid is a player and want to see him get a Sooner offer.

    • Tucker says:

I’m a Yukon guy (in my previous life) so just for the fun of it… I hate Mustang. But all jokes aside I do really like the look of the kid on the film. I definitely remember having to deal with their air-raid offense, so Brandon is right on the mark. I am very curious to see if they extend an offer. I wish I could see his film on his bad days (if they exist). Otherwise good luck to the kid!

  • Bob Edwards says:

Since we did not take a QB last year I can see us possibly taking two this year. The play may be to offer one we are likely to get like Garrett and then take another one that is more of a reach if we can get him.

    • Tucker says:

      I could see that.

    • Jordan Esco says:

      Pretty unlikely, IMO.

The numbers are shaping up to be pretty tight in this 2016 class. I don’t think they’ll have the room (or need, IMO) to take a second QB in this class.

      • Bob Edwards says:

Yeah the problem I would see is that would leave us with 6 QB’s on scholly for a year. The question would be is if one of the current one transfers, given the change in staff and the log jam with four within three years of eligibility of each other.

      • J J says:

        6 qbs… 7 kickers, it happens

  • C.A. says:

this kid garrett has great upside, watched the film found myself upset cause it wasn’t longer. great talent.

  • Jonathan Taylor says:

Five In-State QB products OU should be looking at who would fit in an Air Raid attack.
    1. Micah Wilson – Lincoln Christian
    2. Chandler Garrett – Mustang
    3. Keats Calhoon – Victory Christian
    4. Mason Fine – Locust Grove
    5. Terry Wilson – Del City
HM – Abe Anderson – Metro Christian (Only because I think he’d be a better LB than QB)

  • Jason Vos says:

Is there any rule against OU taking more than one QB? I dont see why we cant take this guy and continue to pursue some of the higher rated guys.

    • j l says:

you only get 85 scholarships for 22 primary positions. Thats close to 4 scholarships per.

Taking 2 Qb’s this year would put us at 6.

Plus after you take 1 QB, getting a 2nd becomes hard. Typically you want 1 QB per year, so they arent all the same class.

      • Jason Vos says:

Michigan has 7 scholarship QB’s, and I guarantee you they will take 1 this year also.

        • j l says:

Michigan went 5-7, fired its head coach, and has severe depth issues.

You could have 20 QB’s on scholarship, dosent mean its a good idea.

          Most good schools run 4-5.

          • D Hunter Sanchez says:

OSU had three win games for them. I want production and if these guys can’t get it down ask one or two to transfer like last year.

          • j l says:

Lot of that had to do with their OC, who is now a head coach. Lets see if riley can have the same effect.

      • Zack says:

2 of our QBs on campus are juniors it’s possible to take 2 in anticipation of them being gone and letting 2 guys RS one year then compete the next. But I don’t like taking 2 when that extra scholarship can go to another position of higher need such as lb or either line

      • tsou89 says:

I’d be shocked if there isn’t at least one QB transfer between now and next Feb.

    • JD says:

Not against taking more than one…we could take 18-20 (prob the class size) if we wanted (see the point)…this will be a small class with the small number of seniors leaving so maybe only 1 is the ideal number at qb…we need 4-6 backers alone

      • D Hunter Sanchez says:

4-6 Linebackers? How about 4 and 2 QBS?

        • JD says:

Compromise…how about 4 1 and an extra lineman and a juco “can’t miss” at position of need (we’ll know after the season goes)

    • Sooner 76 says:

Here’s the basic needs for recruiting this year. Position, number of players returning in 2016 and basic need at the position. This is not a prediction of what OU takes, just the basic needs based on numbers alone.

For purposes of this discussion, I’m counting Andrews as a TE, Paul as an OG, and Dalton as a FB.

I think with attrition, OU could take a class as high as 20.

  • Spoke with Jean Delance and will have an update typed up.tomorrow.He’s solid, people. He tells me everythig. Very honest with me. We talk 3-4 timestimes a week. He will check out LSU soon. Trust me, though. He’s more than looking forward to visiting the school he’s committed to this weekend.

    • Sooner Ray says:

Don’t let him out of you’re sight Drake. 🙂

    • connie usa says:

Just curious;, If you are “so solid” to OU, then why look at LSU?

      • I guess the same reason I attend games of teams I’m not a fan of… Interest. I just want to experience the atmosphere, etc. He loves OU. He’s visiting, again, this weekend. That says a lot.

        • connie usa says:

I’ll give you that. BUT, it’s kinda like being in a relationship with a great guy. If you check out other’s, you just might find a better one.

          • True. But if he’s faithful he won’t.

          • connie usa says:

BTW: I appreciate all your thoughts and insight into “our” Sooner program!!!

          • BleedCrimson says:

For me it is kind of like Van Halen will always be my favorite guitarist. But, I can enjoy Eric Clapton, Joe Satriani, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Jimi Hendricks, or Jimmy Page. Love to listen to great guitarists, but Eddie will always be my go to guy for solo guitarists… I hope it is the same for Jean and OU.

          • EasTex says:

I’m a guitar slut, I love them all.

          • BleedCrimson says:

Me too… Summer Song is one of my favorites, but fell in love with Van Halens first album in high school… The times I spent with Lisa and listening to Eddie… Shaped my adulthood…

          • EasTex says:

I saw Hendrix in concert in 1968, changed my life.
Have seen so many of the greats over the years, including SRV for a $1 on Monday nights before he got famous.
The one guitarists that few know of and is in my estimation the absolute best I have ever seen was Roy Buchanan.
            http://youtu.be/62uOUyEcx3M

          • BleedCrimson says:

Buchanan was awesome. Was a giant before his time. I wonder if Eddie was a fan… Seems similar in what Eddie did, but with a different flare… Thank you for turning me on to Buchanan. I will have to look him up online.

          • EasTex says:

Just remember when you watch any of Roy’s videos he didn’t use any gadgets, no pedals and no reverbs, he did it all old school.

          • BleedCrimson says:

Which is why the new found love, Frampton changed the world. Loved him, but really respect and love the true guitarists… Along that same thought… You know what they say: the good poets borrow, the great ones steal. After watching Johnny B Good, I feel that Eddie was a huge fan and was a big influence. by the way, I have loved the johnny b good since seeing it on Back to the Future with Marty playing it, didn’t realize it was Buchanan til now…

          • EasTex says:

I have nothing against guitarist creating new sounds with gadgets, none at all, but to sit and watch Roy play for hours and be mesmerized by the sounds he coaxed out of his axe just using his mind and fingers kept me captivated.
I love Pat Metheny too, what do you call this thing he is playing?
            http://youtu.be/UOyPG_D2EnE

          • BleedCrimson says:

            Vio-guitar???

          • EasTex says:

            Don’t know!
He developed that guitar-synthesizer thing many years ago, but don’t know what this thing is. One part as pickups, one is a guitar and the other sounds like a harp or sitar.

          • BleedCrimson says:

            Very Prince-esk… Extremely talented.

          • BleedCrimson says:

Other than slide country, I love a good guitarist… I could sit and listen to good picking all day… My brother could have been a musician, had the gift, could pick up any instrument and play it within minutes. But for me, it was always the guitar.

          • EasTex says:

I have always loved the guitar and I don’t really mind slide/steel guitar.
The kid on the far left is Wes Jeans. He is from my home town and his Uncle and I were friends. His Unc was a wrong-handed guitar player in a high school band.
Wes plays clubs in North Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana.

I like this Wes Jeans. Nice sounds. Until recently lived in the SW Oklahoma region, I may have seen his name on upcoming events, but do not think I have seen him. I do think I would remember that…

Haven’t been a fan of what DLR did after VH but when they were together in the early days, they were hard to top.

          • BleedCrimson says:

Same here… He had a couple of decent songs, but he and Van Halen were never the same… Shame, truly was.

          • EasTex says:

definitely, Also, had a friend in Va Beach (lived there for 8 years) that told me a story about when they played a lil shack that had live bands in the early 80’s, he attended 2 nights of Van Halen and the cover charge was only $.50… WOW… He said the first night he was not impressed because the establishment had electrical problems (amps kept cutting out), but the second night, he knew they were going to be great.

I saw a tweet a few days ago where Delance and JP Urquidez stated they were working on a package deal. The silly, silly wHorn fans were all excited.

    • Zack says:

I thought I had read where delance is Haitian? Do you think our players volunteering in Haiti each year has any impact on him and his family?

  • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Garrett’s motion reminds me of Brett Favre’s motion. The film’s best pass was the 10 yard bullet in the end zone on a tightly covered WR. Love that he has a “guru.” Does TK have one? He ought to.

  • SoonerFan16 says:

Kerry Cooks is getting after it on Twitter tonight.

  • Jeff says:

    So Garrett is the quy?

    • he’s POSSIBLY the guy if OU chooses to go with two QB’s or misses out on Haskins. Possibly. I like his game for the offense that Riley in implementing. It fits Chandler’s game.

      • Zack says:

If he improves his game during his senior year he’s definitely worth a look. Cannon for an arm and accurate from what I saw. I think Blake bell might be a fair comparison for him.

    • JD says:

we’ll find out after this weekend

    • Hotrod33 says:

It wouldn’t be a bad thing if we offered him. I think the last time we had a Okie at QB, he was a pretty darn good one too. I would be happy if he committed to us.

      • Jeff says:

Hope OU waits a while to offer him, if Riley is a good coach he can get a better prospect

        • BleedCrimson says:

Curious, what are your skills/experience at evaluating a good QB?

          • EasTex says:

He honed those skills at Troll State.

          • Hotrod33 says:

I hear they have some of the best evaluators to come out of that place. I won’t let my daughters go there. sarcasm.

          • EasTex says:

If you heard that, you heard it from them and no one else. And no, it’s no place for our little darlings. 🙂

          • Hotrod33 says:

Eas, they are the only ones that tell everyone else how good it is. Which of course no one believes but them.

          • SamSooner says:

            Will do, EasTex.

        • John Garner says:

Better? I’m no guru, but the kids has skills. If he comes in as a 3-star, I’d be fine with that. To run the Air Raid, the QB needs a high football IQ. The last 3-star QB we had with that skill won a Heisman.

    • BoomerDave says:

No! He’s been invited to Jr Day. Doesn’t mean that he is the guy, just means that he is under consideration. Personally, I doubt that he will end up being “the guy”.

        • boomersooner says:

the explosions hopefully. that’d be awesome for daily news or whatever its called

          • EasTex says:

Considering pigeons are flying poop bags it seems appropriate to blast them for a change.

          • Robertson / Robertson 2016 says:

“This just in. A flesh fountain has achieved an amazing degree of accuracy in what appears to be trial technology in recent pigeon control efforts. We’re coming at you now with a live shot.”

Sorry. Got outflow on the brain.

      • Robertson / Robertson 2016 says:

Can do. But keep in mind, it is not Easter yet and those pigeons are not Hershey.

        • boomersooner says:

i meant the saltines and the sprite. some exploding pigeons would be pretty awesome. and please wash your hands 🙂

          • EasTex says:

If you want to see them blow up real good, pour a bag of rice on the ground next to a big bowl of water.

          • BleedCrimson says:

or toss alka-seltser to sea gulls… that may be a sailor thing. But would probably work with pigeons… 🙂

          • EasTex says:

            That would be hysterical.
So weird last week, I was standing outside at DFW airport in the freezing weather and heard the unmistakable sound of a sea gull. One schtoopid bird.

          • BleedCrimson says:

When in the Navy, we used to have parties in hotels on the beach, (I know, real stretch…) and have keggers. Would buy a loaf of bread and a bottle of Alka-Seltzer… I am sure most can picture what happened next… The birds were absolutely volunteers by the way…

          • EasTex says:

Those birds volunteer for any and all dumbassery.

          • Robertson / Robertson 2016 says:

My bad. And yes. My wife communicates to me now through Morse code using Lysol sprays. She keeps saying, SPRAY-SPRAY-SPECK, SPECK-SPECK-SPRAY-SPECK. Which roughly translates to, “If you’d stop reading your dang sports blogs, you might be able to rest more”.

        Not a bad looking kid.

        • EasTex says:

He is primarily a RB, even though the vid shows a lot of his wildcat usage. Fast, elusive, strong and tough. He averaged about 7 yards a carry.
The last two teams in his video were in the playoffs, the team in black with gold trim was Nacogdoches(Jaylon Lane’s team) who they beat, the last team in all dark was Dallas South Oak Cliff who they lost to.

I graduated HS in 81, but we used to gather in our front yard and have the game loud on the radio while we played catch in the front yard. Most game days were serious football by half time, because we were hanging half a hundred on them… great memories… Joe was spectacular!

  • Bryan says:

Watched Chandler Garrett’s film. He’s a pretty good athlete, especially for a frame his size. One thing I noticed, however, is that he has a very awkward throwing motion and tends to dip his head. I’m not a quarterbacks coach, so I can’t say if something like this can be fixed, but just something I noticed.

    • Drew says:

Yeah, I was noticing the same thing. Looks really awkward, but he was getting distance and accuracy, so maybe it’s not that big of a deal? But as an ignoramus to these sort of things, it does seem a little concerning.
