Marquise Overton: I know many of you are aware the situation regarding Jenks’ star defensive tackle, Marquise “Que” Overton. We have avoided the topic on here, because it involves some issues we typically prefer not to address. But the bottom line is there has been some question as to whether he would sign with Oklahoma.

Well we had a chance to catch up with Que last night, and he informed us that Mike Stoops came by to see him this past Monday. Evidently Stoops told him that OU would likely be sending over his National Letter of Intent (NLI) at the end of this week or the beginning of next and that, in all likelihood, Overton is expected to be able to sign with Oklahoma.

As a side note, we have been really disturbed by some of the social media shots people have taken at Que. He is such a kind and hard working young man, who is not only a fantastic football player but also a great wrestler. And all of that takes additional effort and time, which is apparently something these people don’t understand and/or appreciate.

Potential Signing Day (and/or pre-NSD) Surprises: This time of year everyone is interested in knowing if there will be any potential Signing Day (or pre-NSD) flips. We have discovered that in addition to Arthur McGinnis and A.D. Miller, OU is expecting at least two “secret” visitors this weekend that are currently committed to other schools.

We know some of you may not take kindly to hearing about players who are expected to be on campus when we can’t divulge the name/s. But, that said, we also feel like most would rather know there is a shot at a flip or two and/or prospects being on campus rather than know nothing at all.

In this particular case, out of respect for those involved, we will not to divulge the names. And we do so in order to make it easier for the kids to take their visits without additional pressure from the coaches of the schools they are currently committed to. Obviously if word were to get out publicly about a kid, who is committed elsewhere, taking a visit to OU (or any school for that matter), coaches would scramble to try and put out any potential fire/s and make the OU coaches job all the more difficult.

But for those of you who think there is no chance of any surprise commitments from now until NSD, we’re here to tell you that simply isn’t the case. None of the flips are guaranteed (obviously), but currently we know of three possibilities that Oklahoma has a real chance at flipping.

– UPDATE (10:09 am): Just wanted to add a couple quick points of clarification regarding the Overton note above. The first being that simply signing your NLI does not mean you are/will be qualified academically. These are two separate issues, but we just wanted to make that point clear as some are reading into things as this now means Overton would be in the clear from an academic standpoint. The second being that there is a chance this could still come down to a simple numbers issue for OU and their total allotted scholarships.

The hope, obviously, is that both of these situations are handled and Overton signs as many hoped that he would. But with the more recent reports that him signing with OU no longer looked like a possibility (or at least a likelihood), we simply wanted to pass along after speaking with him that may not necessarily be the case. Hopefully this helps to clear up any possible confusion.

– UPDATE (11:31 am): Saw this last night, but forgot to get it up here until now. Just wanted to make everyone aware who is interested. Oh, and the time listed in the tweet below is Eastern. So it will be 7pm central for those of us in that part of the country. Daniels’ decision is believed to be down to OU, Ok. State & Iowa.

– UPDATE (12:09 pm): Dahu Green has confirmed to TFB that he will indeed be in Norman this weekend for an official visit.

UPDATE (3:59 pm): Coach Bedenbaugh stopped was in Belton, TX today to visit 2016 offensive lineman, Zach Shackelford.

Are those potential flips the reason behind your hints that something big was coming?

  • Tom Turman says:

People just simply need to not have direct contact with recruits through social media. Not just taking shots at them, but any contact at all.

    • MrBigsby says:

Truer words have never been spoken. It’s just a bit creepy that a middle aged man would even follow a HS kid on Twitter, much less have actual contact with them.

    • Jordan Esco says:

I don’t disagree at all. But good luck w/ that ever happening, sadly.

  • Jeremy Phillips says:

The Que situation is very confusing to me. Maybe it was poor communications between the coaches at OU & him… He seems so close to qualifying & still has this final semester plus the summer to get in.. For him to think OU was dropping him a couple of weeks ago just seemed odd.

  • Soonerfandave84 says:

Thanks guys. Love this site TFB is the best! On the Que Overton thing, I dont understand people bashing 18 year olds for things they most likely did or wouldve done themselves.

  • StoneColdSooner says:

Oooh, “secret visitors”, sounds very clandestine.

  • Maverick says:

So I saw Van Jefferson was going to visit Michigan this weekend and even one crystal baller predicts a flip to them. Maybe #hottytoddy will feel our pain.

    • SoonerfanTU says:

Kid doesn’t seem to be able to make a decision.

Commits to Georgia. Get’s VERY interested in OU. Basically commits on a visit to Ole Miss. And a week later might visit Michigan? Sheesh.

  • Soonerfandave84 says:

Don’t know if it was discussed here, but Lincoln Riley will make $500k (265 base and 235 outside sources). Not a bad pay day. Hope he earns every penny!

It’s like the main character in the Shawshank Redemption says at the end of the movie, “Hope is a good thing”.

  • Rob Stover says:

Can you even divulge which side of the ball they play on. Offense..Defense? Or…………………..Linebacker?!?!?1

  • bjwalker82 says:

I am really hoping for surprise NSD kids. I don’t need to know. If there are secret visitors I’d prefer to allow OU to keep that anonymous. At this point I know all the kids we’ve looked at. I just need NSD to get here! 😀

    • Fear The Magic says:

I also don’t need to know and completely understand that putting that information out there could potentially hurt OUs chances of getting a flip. Im just very appreciative of whatever information be in major or minor that we get on here. The fact that we have potential flips already brightens the day for me.

      • Jordan Esco says:

If a kid is committed elsewhere, I think it’s pretty natural they’re going to feel some loyalty to that school. So then if word gets out they’re thinking of flipping, the coaches of said school turn up the pressure and, most likely, pull out all stops trying to convince the kid to stay. Whereas if those coaches aren’t given the opportunity to do so, how would that not make the OU coaches job easier to try and flip them?

  • SamSooner says:

I’m glad for Overton. I’m more excited to see OU stick with him. I’m telling you, this will pay dividends down the road. I’m just glad to see leaders show commitment to our youth.

  • Lane Gilstrap says:

I’m just gonna take a shot in the dark and guess Dahu Green, Du’Vonta Lampkin, and totally clueless on #3 Cam Townsend or Kyler Murray

    • Jeremy Phillips says:

I might suggest Thomas, just because LB’er.. & though not committed, maybe Wariboko too..

    • Scott says:

Anthony Wheeler never took a visit and he’s wanted OU all along…Green seems likely, then I’d go with a DT/QB

  • Tmac says:

Coach Mont’s tweet that NSD is what counts suggests he is confident we will like the results. Some great news will be added to an already solid class. Let’s let it play out.

  • SamSooner says:

Let’s practice self-control, everyone. Jordan has given us a nugget. Let’s let that be enough. If we would have gone into the weekend thinking that there are no visitors this weekend, some of us would have ripped the coaching staff. Now we know they’ve been working hard, we should feel good about that. To ask for more information is, well, rude.

I ask all of us not to speculate. Let’s show respect for the TFB and let this bit of information be enough.

    Agreed?

    • Maverick says:

Hahahaha. Get out of here with your reason. 🙂

There’s blood in the water boys. Let the games begin.

    • Jordan Esco says:

Well, fwiw, I’d say you all are more than welcome to speculate. I where would the fun be in refraining from doing so?

But if you’re going to get mad b/c, as we’ve already clearly stated, we can’t tell you the ‘who’ part, then, yeah, you are probably better off not taking part.

But that’s just my two cents.

      • Stephen Dale says:

I believe at least one of the ‘secret visitors’ will be an Oklahoma HS LB who did not like his FCS offer list and planned to go to NEO until contacted by the Sooner staff for a visit. if the scenario works out, that probably means Mcginnis has already indicated he is planning to sign with Arizona…..just my speculation as requested by JE above………

    • Exiled In Ohio says:

      Self-control? No speculation? For real?

    • nicjams says:

Not agreed. Speculating is the best part!

    • JJSoona says:

Yup, totally agree, Wait for it………….

  • John Garner says:

TFB – thank you for your insights into Que. Some kids are characters, and others have character. Que sounds like the latter. OU will be a better team if he signs with us.

  • Exiled In Ohio says:

Great post! Excellent words of wisdom about Que!

  • Scott says:

I’ll say the visitors are…Green, Lampkin, and Smith. Just a guess. Outside shot at a QB.

  • SoonerfanTU says:

We all know Lampkin is one of the possible flippers.

The other two, that are visiting, can you at least tell us if they are names that have been been discussed recently, or are they completely out of the blue, names we haven’t really heard of or talked about much?

Thinking Hughes “might” be one of them.

    • SoonerfanTU says:

Still holding out hope that Murray is one as well. Feels like the ship has sailed on it being a Murray/Lodge combo, but I really want to believe we have a shot with Murray.

      • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Isn’t he a little short? I mean, there are exceptions, but the majority of successful QB’s are not 5’10…

        • SoonerfanTU says:

If I knew we had “answers” on campus, I’d agree with you. And I’d rather chase bigger QB’s. But at this point, I can’t help but wonder if he is worth the chance. What’s the worst that happens? He gets on campus, and can’t cut it. We can still recruit a bigger QB next year. But I think the rewards outweigh the risks in terms of bringing Murray in, and letting him decide if he succeeds or not.

          • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Fair enough. You would think OU vis a vis A&M and the shorthorns, would be ideal with a new offense and new OC coming in. It is more probable for a freshman to get playing time here. I mean, the kid can be on equal footing in learning the scheme.

          • Scott Moore says:

I worry a little about going all in on another one that doesn’t pan out. Kind of like Knight so far. It’s almost like we already wasted a year on a guy that just doesn’t have it. I hope Knight and or Murray proves me wrong.

        • Easton says:

Don’t let EasTex see that comment Sanchez. EasTex has been watching Murray in person for a few years, thinks the world of him. He is definitely talented, hugely.

          • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Okay. Maybe I’ll delete. Perhaps I’m overreacting to TK 6’0 not seeing freaking LB’s….

          • Easton says:

I prefer the taller QB for that reason. Don’t delete, just kind of a heads up in a light not-serious spirit.

          • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Oh okay. Gotcha thanks. Do you know anything about that Michigan decommit 6’5 QB?

          • Easton says:

I know the name, but I don’t know anything about his recruitment now.

    • JTrain51 says:

According to Lampkins twitter today, flipping is the farthest thing from his mind. Unless of course he is going to the extreme to throw everyone off.

  • Maverick says:

My Cousin Eddy knows a guy that bought a laptop off Craigslist from the guy that walks Kyler Murray’s dogs. This is totally legit. Long story short, Murray to OU confirmed.

  • StoneColdSooner says:

Can you give their weight(s) or name rhymes with…..

  • SamSooner says:

This post is like a pride of lions which has just taken down a cape buffalo: everyone is taking a bite.

  • Jason Vos says:

My guess at one surprise visitor is Mike Hughes NC

  • Jason Vos says:

Incase you missed it, Samaje Perine Highlights. Cant wait to see this guy and Joe Mixon carrying the ball in the LR’s offense.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=10GNnA99W_8

    • sooner8 says:

I think with Riley’s spread offense Perine and Mixon will have a feast!!

      • Thomas Lenard says:

It’s not Riley’s spread offense….. It’s the Hot Rod Lincoln Offense.

        • Cooper Jones says:

I’m just waiting for the first Mcconaughey Lincoln Riley parody. That commercial just won’t quit running.

    • SCKSChief says:

So did they omit half of the KU game? Haven’t watched yet, but damn near every carry in that one should be on here…gonna add some length to it.

  • nicjams says:

I’m just ready for the spring game.

  • Maverick says:

I’m kind of spoiled. I think I’ll be a bit disappointed if the secret recruits are Dahu Green and Wariboko. I want some 5 stars damnit!!

  • Jonathan Taylor says:

Riley needs to take a look at this QB. He’s got no offers, but was an all state player.
Easton Bruere. What do y’all think?

  • Zack says:

Do you guys think these names will come out over the weekend? Or are these guys going to be able to keep it quiet while here?

Imo lampkin and wariboko wouldnt be surprises since both were committed previously and wariboko needs to visit one more time if OU were to have a real shot.
Green is intriguing and I could see that. I wonder if kolar may shock everyone?

  • Will Narramore says:

Gonna be huge to have Overton in this class. He’s a stud and could be ready to anchor the DL by 2016

  • SoonerfanTU says:

Correct me if I’m wrong, but OU sending Overton a LOI to sign, and even Overton signing that, doesn’t mean he’ll be at OU next year. If the problem is him getting qualified, that is an issue with or without him signing. Just means OU doesn’t have anybody better to take that scholarship, so they’ll take the change that Overton does get qualified, or they are doing it knowing he likely won’t, but hoping it creates goodwill with Overton going forward.

    • Jordan Esco says:

You’re right in that simply signing a NLI (it’s not LOI, fwiw. not a big deal of course, just a pet peeve of mine) does not guarantee him qualifying and/or being accepted to OU.

Although I would strongly caution against using the phrasing you did in describing it as ‘having no one better to take.’ That doesn’t describe Overton, as K stated in the post, nor does it accurately describe OU’s approach to recruiting, be it in this situation or in general.

The reports previously were that he probably wouldn’t even have the chance to sign. Now it would appear that has changed. But we’ll have to wait and see how things eventually play out. Regardless, this is a new development in things and something we felt was worth bringing to you all here.

  • JJSoona says:

Marquise Overton is a stud on and off the field. I hope anyone taking shots at him on social retards sites pick up Ben-Gay thinking its toothpaste. Jerks are everywhere….no big shock.

    • Jed says:

      …thinking it’s Preparation H.

      • Clint Lenard says:

What’s the point? Most are hillbillies with bad gums. It’ll only help with the inflammation, which then helps them flap those gums more.

        • Jed says:

My friend, even the most callous hillbilly would have a rude shock if he were to apply ‘Preparation H’ only to discover that, by mistake, he’d used Ben Gay.
You’ll remember the song, “You, Light Up My Life”?

    • Maverick says:

I agree about not taking shots at the kid on social media, but whether he likes it or not, he’s a public figure now. His actions are subject to criticism. Not qualifying for college is an easy thing to criticize.

  • normanite says:

I’m 100% fine with not knowing who the secret visitors are if that increases the chance they’ll flip to OU.

  • sooner44 says:

I can’t wait to yell “Quuuuuuuue” again on Saturdays! Probably not as many opportunities to do so being on the DL as the former “Q” though 🙂

  • Jared Tyra says:

Here’s a recruiting tool that I just found over on ESPN of all places. Oklahoma leads the big 12 with 28 NFL draft picks since 2010. That stat alone should be capable of winning a few signatures.

    • Easton says:

You’re talking to the choir here Jared. I think the closest behind us is ut at 17-18, 14?

      • Jared Tyra says:

Exactly; it’s not even close between us and second (which actually happens to be Baylor with 17).

        • Easton says:

Baylor, sign of the changes in the Big 12. As OU fans, I think we have experienced the improvement of Baylor the most. It is easy for some people to jump out and say, ‘what happened to OU, losing at home by alot’. But the Big 12 is far more competitive than it was when the likes of Gerald McCoy were running the trenches every Saturday.

          • Jared Tyra says:

I couldn’t agree with you more. It really hurts to see the team get their butts whipped repeatedly by the team that was the big 12’s former doormat but that’s unfortunately old news… Just have to hope/optimistically expect this is the year it all changes.

          • Easton says:

Indeed. We will have opportunity to evaluate early at Rocky Top.

          • boomersooner says:

tell you what. i hate em because of who they are and their freaking obnoxious fan base because they all think they’re naismith, but it makes you respect the run ku bball is on. they stink compared to some of these previous ku teams but they’re still real good and getting better. to be able to win this conference when its the best year in and year out lately is pretty darn impressive

          • Jared Tyra says:

That is no lie. For as much credit as we give Lon Kruger for being an outstanding coach (and he most definitely is), Bill Self is a friggin’ untouchable legend. He doesn’t need wiggins or Embiid or Collison. Give him five guys and he’ll give you a championship. But I’m happy with OU after what they did to Tech.

          • boomersooner says:

yep. last night was fun. kruger’s awesome. self’s a legend. but the fact that other teams are getting better and different teams at different times are pushing em but they just keep on trotting out conference champ pennants is astounding.

i can’t stand the fans that think just because its baylor we should never lose to em or whatever. i’m glad you guys brought that up. people getting mad at the defense is understandable but you can’t play d anymore. you gotta try to outscore people. at least that’s the way it seems. tcu/patterson is known for d and they’re giving up points like its their job. different day and age now, hope we make necessary adjustments and put foot to butt

          • Jared Tyra says:

I get what you’re saying. A loss to any team in college football these days doesn’t seem out of the question anymore. Kansas almost got TCU a few weeks before TCU blew up ole miss. Can’t rule someone out just because of their jersey and especially not Baylor. How badly they’ve beaten OU the past couple seasons just seems too sudden, though.

  • Doobie74OU says:

IMO this whole “QUE” thing is just another product of the social media age we live in, Instant Info Now! It was great the Que committed to OU and we all want a in-state kid to come in and succeed! However with a week to go before NSD it is the responsible thing to do for OU to have a back up plan if he doesn’t qualify. And it is even better that they were up front and honest with him about the situation. It is great that it appears everything is going to work out for the positive but Que did what he had to, and the OU coaches did what they had to do. 5-10 years ago we would have never known about all this and nobody would have been attacking him but in the Digital Age these kinds of things happen when you put yourself out there. Glad OU is backing him up and everything is pointing to a great outcome!

As is the stadium mess yesterday. Click journalism isn’t good for the business or the consumer.

      • Easton says:

That click removes this site Herman. But I see your sentiment, and raise you: bad journalism is toxic, so is bad business.

        • Herman Bubbert says:

So far, it seems that this site adheres well to the tents of journalism, Easton. Nothing wrong with online journalism done right. The issue falls with online journalism done primarily in the rush for clicks.

  • CKill1 says:

I’m old enough to have developed a little perspective on my life as a 17-18 year old and just how confused & stupid I was then. That I didn’t kill myself or someone else edges pretty close to miraculous, I believe. I wasn’t a star athlete, but lucky enough to be offered an Air Force ROTC scholarship out of high school, and I almost screwed that up. Can’t imagine with todays social media, the microscope these kids live under. Best wishes to them all, wherever they sign.

    • soonerinks says:

If you got offered an Air Force ROTC scholarship, I would say you did very well. I, on the other hand, was a total disaster at 18.

      • CKill1 says:

Oh me too. I was fortunate to have gotten away with a few things I’m sure my Congressman would have preferred not to know. My grades and test scores were great. Scholarship was for computer science. Hell, I didn’t care. I wanted to fly. Only took me a semester at Colorado state to realize I am most certainly NOT a computer scientist…

        • Easton says:

Plus, Ft. Collins has an eery similarity to Stillwater (blank out the mountains). IMO.

          • CKill1 says:

Gotta disagree with that one. Ft. Collins is an amazing city. Very clean. Now, I’ve never been to Stillwater so can’t compare, but I didn’t take your comment to be complimentary. I loved it there, just couldn’t afford to live there full time

          • Easton says:

I lived in Stillwater for five years, and was in Ft. Collins over the holidays. I don’t have much compliment for Ft. Collins, you are right.

          • CKill1 says:

Old Town is the place to be in Ft. Collins. Also, it’s the gateway to the trip up the Poudre Canyon all the way to Cameron Pass. Beautiful country.

          • Easton says:

            Maybe I’ll go there again.

  • Jeremy Phillips says:

With these “secret visitors”, will TFB keep them secret only through the weekend… or will you not tell us who they were until signing day, whether they sign with OU or not…?

    • Borba22 says:

I’m sure if they do end up showing up that someone out there will leak it over the weekend, in which case TFB would be able to tell us more about it.

  • dallassooner says:

19 commits and as many as 27 scholarships; i’m not sure we are going to get 8 commits between now and next week. Shouldn’t be a numbers issue.

  • Fear The Magic says:

After much soul searching and deductive reasoning I believe the mystery recruits are Wheeler ( whos probably been in a depression since committing to UT ) and Hughes ( wishful thinking on my part). That being said I’m more than likely 100% wrong on both.

  • Indy_sooner says:

Hoping for a YESSIR from Overton.. I never understand these recruiting things…is the offer going to be reissued?
I really, really Like Que, but whether he is able to make it in or not, makes no sense why folks would rain on a kid who’s situation they don’t even understand. Glad to see Mike fixed this quick

  • TenaciOUs b! says:

Is there any possibility that the new position coaches who have not been named may bring a player or two with them? How soon after NSD can we expect to see these positions filled?

  • soonerinks says:

Bart the cat (thought dead) scratched and clawed his way from a grave. If ole Bart can do it, I don’t see why Mike’s defense can’t also.

    • Easton says:

That’d be the application of the moral of the story. I’m in on resurrections.

    • SoonerfanTU says:

Having seen Pet Cemetery too many times, no way I’d welcome that cat back into my house. Nuh uh.

      • soonerinks says:

I also had flashbacks when I read that story. The book was much better than the movie.

        • SoonerfanTU says:

The original movie was pretty good, I thought. I believe they did a remake, and it wasn’t nearly as good. Of course, they rarely are.

    • Herman Bubbert says:

      Great analogy.

      • soonerinks says:

When our DB’s were the shark’s, that didn’t work out so well. Maybe, they should now be known as “Bart the cat” and just hope for a different outcome.

  • KJ1123 says:

I gotta believe that hiring Lincoln is going to help Mike in a way. Going against an “updated” high powered offense day in and out should in theory should help the defense get ready to play against the TCU’s, Baylors, etc.

  • Fear The Magic says:

I was hoping that Norman would have good weather this weekend but it looks likely to be cloudy/ rainy. Is it just me or does OU have the worst luck with weather on big recruiting weekends?

  • Puma says:

I am boarding the speculation train. 1. Wheeler. His whole UT commitment didn’t seem genuine, like it was something he really wanted. 2. Mckenzie (tenn DT commit) or Fehoko (tech DT commit). Both of these guys were heavily recruited my Monty and they loved it. We all know Monty doesn’t give up.

    • AlvinMack55 says:

I agree. It looks like he had a heck of a visit and Iowa even offered his brother. Karl Davis being a force for Iowa at DT this year doesn’t hurt their chances either.

  • Zack says:

One of the visitors this weekend will be a receiver. So Strickland or green and possibly Hughes. I say this because Humphrey gets to be a host.

  • Jeff says:

Also just hope OU doesn’t have any of there recruits to a quick trip some where else

  • RocketCitySooner says:

Question about the ‘secret’ visitors. Wonder if we might be about to get some news on coaching vacancies. Maybe a coach or two is about to become ‘de-committed’ from OU and a coach or two is ready to ‘flip’ to OU?

Sorry I’m not extremely excited about a secret visitor being Dahu Green. I want highly rated defensive recruits.

  • Jordan Esco says:

You all know who had the Overton news first. And that you didn’t have to get behind a paywall to read it.

    • Lincoln Hawk says:

Hey I just saw Josh M. give you guys credit on twitter for Dahu Green visiting!

      • Jordan Esco says:

Same. About time tho. Baby steps I guess. Has still yet to do so re: Overton, be it on Twitter or elsewhere.

      • Jordan Esco says:

Ask Bob P who he credited…

        • Lincoln Hawk says:

Saw that, he seems like a good guy too. I’m assuming that’s just a common courtesy thing right?

          • Jordan Esco says:

It’s a professional courtesy. And one I can guarantee you they want/expected extended to them when the situation is reversed and they’re breaking the news. And we DO extend it to them, hence our citing of Scoop multiple times in recent days. But is it ever (other this one particular incidence, which I’d bet you just about anything doesn’t happen consistently going forward) a two-way street? No, of course not.

          • Lincoln Hawk says:

Well I trust that if you guys continue to take the high road and extend them the professional courtesy that you currently do, this site will continue to be blessed

          • Jordan Esco says:

You and K certainly share the philosophy. There are just some times where I can’t hold my tongue. There are only so many times you can be stepped on before you have to push back, IMO. If you’re not getting the respect you feel you deserve, at some point you have to demand it.

          • Lincoln Hawk says:

Just to let you guys know, we the fans deeply respect the time and effort that all of you guys put into this for free. Takes a special person and a special love of a university/sport. And we can’t get enough!!

          • Jordan Esco says:

Well, the feeling is definitely mutual!

          • Kody K. says:

Jordan I’ve gotten to where I do not look at any other Sooner related sites other than TFB. It’s TFB or nothing! I’m with ya til the wheels fall off.

    • dahldennsull says:

Esco bringing heat on twitter and on TFB lately… ha

      • Jordan Esco says:

I’m just tired of this crap. K, Alex & Brandon work their asses off to get you all info, and I’m tired of other people refusing to credit TFB when we break news. It’s the professional thing to do and they’re the ones who constantly remind us that they’re the professionals and we’re just amateurs. You don’t get to pick and choose when you’re going to do it, or do so b/c you’re buddies w/ the other person who broke it. Either do it across the board and be the professional you claim to be, or don’t do it at all. Seems pretty simple to me, but what the hell do I know. I’m just a lowly blogger.

        • soonerinks says:

Hell Jordan, you got us and they have theirs. Looks to me like TFB is the big winner!

          • Jordan Esco says:

I appreciate you saying so. And believe me, it’s not like the recognition from all of you here isn’t appreciated or unnoticed.

But if we want to get this site to where we want it to be, it’s time to demand others start doing the same, IMO.

          • soonerinks says:

That is happening. TFB has a truly unique product – first class information at a very reasonable rate. Don’t see how anyone could turn it down.

          • Jordan Esco says:

You’d be surprised. Even to this day, I can’t tell you how many ppl are convinced that all we do here is take $ info from other boards. And I’m amazed at how convinced they are we’re doing that and more so at how it w/b possible when we’re posting it before any $ board has it.

Hell, a decent portion of the time it’s ppl taking our info from here to the $ board and asking their mod to confirm it. It always makes me laugh.

          • soonerinks says:

Your resounding success has got to be an enormous threat to them and if they acknowledge your existence then how do they justify their charging for the same information that you provide free of charge.

          • Easton says:

            Deduction of the day.

          • Jordan Esco says:

We acknowledge them even though they are the “competition” and rarely do the same. And we do so b/c it’s the professional thing to do, again, even though they routinely say and/or give the impression they don’t consider us to be (and, to be fair, we’re not. freely admit that).

          • soonerinks says:

That is where they are wrong. The first thing that someone does when there is a real threat is to mock that threat. That is the very essence of politcs.

          • Jordan Esco says:

Well let’s hope you’re right. b/c there has been PLENTY of mocking on their part

          • Herman Bubbert says:

Stay professional, Jordan. The passage of time is the great vindicator in this business, and you can rest assured that those of us in the business who try to do it right have noticed. The business is important to me, and it infuriates me when I see sloppiness that feeds the misconceptions many have about journalists. I’m out there with you on the accountability front.

          • L'Carpetron Dookmarriot says:

Funny thing though, I don’t see them as competition for you all. However, it would be easy to understand how you all are competition for them.

        • Easton says:

Folks gon’ try and hold their high horse. You guys have results. I’m giving credit where credit is due, some people won’t.

        • Herman Bubbert says:

Been a rough run for journalistic professionalism for those folks over the last day or so, Jordan. Keep doing what you do. I suspect you guys would have taken the time to actually reach out to Boren. More than I can say about some other folks.

        • Jed says:

Do the right thing yourself for the satisfaction of doing the right thing. You can’t control others and if the right thing is not satisfying on its own, it won’t last long anyway.
Professionalism as a norm in journalism died long ago. That you have an active following here is evidence that it is appreciated; but don’t let the failures of others lessen your pleasure in a job well done.

        • Patvan says:

Don’t worry I pay for one of the pay sightsit was a gift from my wife don’t have the heart to tell her she wasted are money.lol

  • Puma says:

I really like us to get green. I don’t care if OU offerred late. We are talking about the difference between OU and Washington state and he is an in state kid. If we can’t flip him from wash st no matter when we offer, then the program is in worse shape than I would like to admit.

So with all that being said. I expect a boom for green this weekend.

  • Jordan says:

I have a good friend who is a coach at Cassidy in OKC and he believes that Wariboko is going to Ohio State for what it is worth…

    • soonerinks says:

If your friend is right, I am officially bummed!

    • Ryan says:

So he wants to play OU 2 years in a row?? His parents (OU alums) will be pleased with that lol

    • Easton says:

Casady. Does your friend coach on the football team? I went to Casady. I wish I stayed in contact with an old buddy who coaches football there.

      • Jordan says:

He does. He is a new guy, I know him from high school. I go to OU

        • Easton says:

Right on. Its a pretty spot in the middle of the city. Heres to keeping in contact with K12 friends, i could have some inside info, but I don’t.

    • SoonerfanTU says:

Cali life to Ohio life is a pretty big change. Oh well. Dude just seems like he doesn’t want to end up at OU.

  • Cole says:

I want him to go to OU just so I can hear the crowd cheer Da….HUUUUUU!

  • Cole says:

I want him to go to OU just so the crowd can cheer Da-HUUUUUUUUU after every catch!

  • Stephen says:

I’m going to say that the other recruit hopefully is a LB.

  • NayNay918 says:

Was Dahu one of the two “surprise” committed recruits mentioned in the previous post that is taking an OV this weekend?

  • Mark slavin says:

I thought Daniels was leaning toward Texas tech.

    • Ryan says:

OU could sure use some good news Friday…it’s been a crappy last week

    • Fear The Magic says:

Funnily enough 247 predicts #1 Baylor #2 Tech and #3 OU no mention of Iowa and OSU. Now the update on here doesnt even include his top two favorites.
Recruiting is such a guessing game….albeit a fun one.

  • soonerjunky says:

  • Puma says:

Enough about the New Mexico qb. Everyone here are fanatics so everyone here has read or heard the story. And multiple people have already posted stuff about it. Sorry to be like that but it’s just the same thing being said over and over. Additionally it was a bleacher report story. No need to say more.

  • Mustvid says:

Does signing Overton impact Darrion Daniels choosing OU? I Just watched Darrion’s HUDL film and he is lined up over center most of the time so I’m guessing he a 0 or 1 technique in the current 3-4. I really like what I see on film. Not sure of the talent level Dunne plays against. He uses his hands well, stays low most of the time and has strong hands and plays with power. His junior film showed more explosion at the snap. He’s not a bad blocker either.

  • Blake Lee says:

can you tell us if Dahu Green was one of the two committed players you had mentioned would be visiting this weekend?

  • Zack says:

We’re back up to #14 in rivals. They added Overton back in. Weird I wonder where they got that idea

    • Jordan Esco says:

      yeah, weirrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrd 😉

    • Easton says:

Prediction: we end up at #8 in those final rankings.

      • Fear The Magic says:

I dont see us ending up that high. I say more like 11 or 12

        • Easton says:

I’m feeling top ten. Excited for the 4th. It may be a late night, hopefully its all done by noon.

      • Zack says:

I like the optimism but I say 12th. Just because it looks like we are going to be around 24-25 guys. Its strange though we have the 5th best average yet were 14th

        • Easton says:

          #’s. Like you noted.

        • Bob Edwards says:

This is why you don’t pay attention to the overall rankings. They are based as much on quantity as quality. You have some coaches signing players that are not going to make grades/test scores. They get another 4* added to their total even though he will never show up on campus. Pretty common down here in SEC country where I live. Impresses Joe Fan, of course it can bite them when Joe Fan expects results that match the recruiting rankings.

      • Mark slavin says:

If rivals went by average star rating like they should we’d be 6-7th right now.

    • SoonerfanTU says:

Until they start doing it by average ranking, I think it’s silly to look at where we rank. Especially with the SEC over-signing every year. We should boycott any ranking that is done that way.

      • Easton says:

I’m in for action based change for a good reason.

      • D Hunter Sanchez says:

I think your right! What is the average star now? Back to 3.61? I see Rivals has us at 3.6 good for 6th best class in the nation.

    • D Hunter Sanchez says:

What is the average star now? Back to 3.61? I see Rivals has us at 3.6 good for 6th best class in the nation.

  • Mysterio1 says:

Sticking with Overton is a huge plus for Oklahoma, if he does qualify, you have an outstanding athlete to play DT.
If he does not qualify, you place him in a JC and see how things work out in 2017.
He won’t count against your class of 2015.

  • Puma says:

Too bad the men’s bball game wasn’t last night. Would have loved McGinnis to have witnessed that beat down of tech.

  • Soonerfandave84 says:

How many people think Boren will come out in March and say the facility upgrades are on hold? And how does someone leak that info a week before NSD? That rock solid trio of Stoops/Joe C./Boren for the first time doesn’t look all that solid

    • SoonerfanTU says:

What makes you think it was one of those three? IF the expansion is being put on hold, way more people than just those three know about it.

    • Herman Bubbert says:

Money is a fluid subject. But with that said, I expect the regents will idle it in March.

    • Stephen says:

It was leaked because someone probably wanted it to be leaked. I doubt Stoops/Joe. C/Boren are foolish enough to leak that themselves. There must be some unhappy employees in the AD.

      • Soonerfandave84 says:

Seems there is less respect for those in charge.

        • Stephen says:

I think there’s some truth to this. That or someone has some guts to take a shot at Boren.

      • Charles Suggs says:

One, singular is all it takes. No point in whipping up a conspiracy out of thin air. Could easily have been someone outsid the department, or even outside the university. Maybe Norvell left a forgotten account and posted to Murdock from the parasite account. Maybe it was the North Koreans.

        • Stephen says:

Why would Murdock publish the article if his source was someone outside the program or university?

      • soonerinks says:

Sounds to me that one individual in the Athletic Dept does not have a bright future there ahead of him.

    • JB says:

I sincerely doubt it, especially after he issued a strong denial yesterday. He knows he can’t go back on that in a month.

      • Herman Bubbert says:

I think that if you read the denial carefully, it was more than adequately nuanced to allow Boren to double back next month – if and when the regents idle the expansion. Wasn’t that much of a denial at all.

    • Jed says:

Why would he do that when, instead, he can announce the residential college and then they can do the stadium reno in stages over a decade or so. Never really idle it. Never cancel it, just slow it down. Frankly, it would not be a bad idea to shift to a mode of constant facility upgrades.

    • Bob Edwards says:

Why not just assume that the for pay website that published the rumor was just wrong? It is not clear to me that they have any more credibility than a career politician.

    • alouicious says:

if i’m any other school trying to compete for recruits with OU — i’m gonna spam that rumor to all the press with itching ears til someone bites. game played well.

    • Steve Johns says:

Why aren’t people speculating the leak came from a booster?

    • Daryl says:

I don’t understand why this surprises anyone. There are all kinds of rumors of major layoffs coming for several major companies due to the price of oil. That is our major money maker in this state. I honestly think it wise for them to at least slowdown the renovation as someone stated below. Do a new weight room and work facility and then deal with stadium later.

PS this is why Bob Stoops is so paranoid about media being at practices and he is so short in press conferences because this is the kind of crap that people in the media do and then get pissed that people like Russell Westbrook and Marshawn Lynch don’t want to answer their questions. You can’t have it both ways media.

Glad Green is taking the visit, but hope he wasn’t one of the three secret visitors. My speculation would be Lumpkin, Hughes, & Thomas possibly. My hopeful speculation would be Wheeler, Murray, Newsome or Lodge either one, but those are dream scenarios.

  • Maverick says:

Damnit TFB. I said below I wanted 5 stars, not Dahu to be a surprise visitor! See what happens when I actually work?

Disclaimer: This post may include sarcasm.

At least you make it to 10….

    • Fear The Magic says:

I just hooked a siren to my computer which will go off everytime a new post comes up. I also have a strobe light on top the screen which along with the siren lets me know when theres a update.
Needless to say my co-workers have come to hate me very very much.

    • hOUligan says:

Recognition is the first step. Admission is the second, fellow TFB ‘steppers’. Hello…my name is hOUligan…and I have a TFB addiciton. I am up to 15 minutes between refreshes….

  • BoomerDave says:

Not really sure I understand TFB need to put Dahu Green’s name out there as a “secret visitor”. In your 12:09 update you state that he confirmed to TFB that he would be visiting. I assumed you already had that confirmation when you guys said that committed prospects would be visiting this weekend. Then you were so adamant (and rightfully so) not to release their names to avoid added pressure on these “secret visitors” and to make it easier for the OU coaches to flip them. (Your words, not mine). Then in an about face, you release Dahu name. Call me stupid if you like, but I guess I just don’t understand why the change of heart of releasing his name publicly. Did he tell you that you could? Short of that, I think this is a disservice to this young man. Just my opinion.

    • Jordan Esco says:

“Did he tell you that you could?”

Yes, in fact, he did. Otherwise we never would have put it out there. For, as you’ve said, that’s why they were referred to as “secret” visitors from the get-go. Also thought it was somewhat obviously implied in the 12:09 update as though it was coming from him, but that could have just been poorly worded on my part as I am the person who posted that update.

      • BoomerDave says:

Thanks for the clarification re this. I found it obvious in the 12:09 update that he told you that he was visiting and that it was coming from him. However I assumed, obviously incorrectly, that your news this morning of “secret visitors” this weekend, one of which was Green, came directly from the recruits themselves and not other sources. My bad on that. If Green is not worried about WSU and Leach knowing that he is taking an official to OU this weekend, then that sounds even better for our chances.

        • Jordan Esco says:

No worries. I mean we’re not going to say “we’re not going to burn a kid…” and then turn around and burn ’em 😉

    • Easton says:

But he did tell them, so, its settled.

  • Carl Carter says:

Who all is visiting this weekend?

    • Jordan Esco says:

Stated above in the post: Arthur McGinnis, AD Miller, Dahu Green, and another “secret” visitor (or two).

Almost inevitable that another guy or two make it in that we haven’t heard about yet, fwiw.

      • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Jordan, Thanks for the best and most up to date OU info. I appreciate it because I live in Cali.

        • Jordan Esco says:

Wish I had your weather 🙂

          • OkieRandolph says:

weather is worthless if you don’t have water!

          • Easton says:

            Randolph. They have water.

          • OkieRandolph says:

Ask the people in central Cal. ALL their wells are DRY!!!

          • Easton says:

It is dry, but there is water.

          • OkieRandolph says:

I feel so bad for those folks that live from Bakersfield all the way up past Fresno. I don’t know what they are gonna do.

          • Easton says:

            Definitely concerning.

          • Daddy R says:

Desalination will eventually solve all water problems once they get the plants built, which they are building.. INVEST in desalination folks, its gonna be an absolute necessity..

          • Easton says:

Yes agreed. San Francisco has a black water filtration plant now as well.

          • Daddy R says:

I’ve heard they are using those too, aren’t those the ones that refilter used public water? Problem with that ive heard is the “ick” factor..

          • Easton says:

Black water = toilet water, grey water = shower, sink water. The act of turning toilet water back into potable water is profound. I would drink it, but I’ve seen the technology at work, and know how strenuous the standards require the technology to be.

You know LOTS of our Oklahoma people moved in that region in the dust bowl days (several of my relatives included) so I’ve kept a soft spot in my heart for them. I even root for Fresno State a lot because of the type of people that are supporters of that school. But the stories my family talk about there are just incredible.

          • Easton says:

It is forcing innovation, which will help a lot more people in the end.

          • blaster1371 says:

That innovation is being done in the farm regions, so cal and the bay area don’t do squat nor does the socialist government in sacremento do anything manful but raise water prices. I blame Congress too, they place greater value on non-indenginous endangered fish than on the nations food supply.

          • soonerinks says:

Delivered some augers/motors to a feedlot by Fresno last week. Saw a lot of orchard trees that were pulled up out of the ground. Is that because of the water shortage or part of a rotational thing?

          • blaster1371 says:

Could be both, depends on the trees. Some orchards died last summer from lack of water. Some fruit trees are being yanked because of the low market price. Since many of the older orchards were established by flood irrigation those that are near the end of the service span have to be pulled as they will switch over to drop irrigation. Pistachios are all the rage now since they need little water as do other varieties of nut trees. Olives were making a come back now they have a better way to harvest them and the virgin oil market has set industry grading standards. Older grape vineyards are being yanked too so that new once can be installed with drip lines. I never so much fallow land here as I did last year. I live in Visaila and commute through about 40 miles of farm country every day.

          • soonerinks says:

Very interesting read and thank you for your response. Saw a lot of water signs so sounds like water is a highly political issue in Cali right now. Hope you guys get some much needed rain, just not all at once.

          • Daddy R says:

They are building desalination plants in california finally, but not nearly quickly enough if you ask me…

          • blaster1371 says:

they are? Its not part of the last water bond unless its being done by local municipalities

          • Daddy R says:

pretty sure it’s being done by private companies. I looked up this question a few months ago because I was curious if they are doing anything about the water crisis there, and knew that desalination is used in many countries around the world, and that its a great tool to offset the droughts.. Its the ONLY way Israel has any fresh water to drink…

          • blaster1371 says:

Agreed. I think every costal community should seriously consider it.

So because rivals jumped the gun and removed Overton from ou’s committed list…he’s now re-committed? Hmm I never got the sense his offer was pulled, it was just a matter of whether he would be a take on nsd. But it’s not like nsd is the end all be all, he could wait and sign in May

    • thebigdroot says:

Jordan- correct me if I’m wrong.
I don’t think his offer was pulled and he never decommitted, I think they talked to him and let him know that they didn’t think he was going to make it accademically and wanted to give him the opportunity to look elsewhere if he so choose. Like I said I could be wrong but that is what I understood.

      • Zack says:

I’m not sure exactly but i know he intended to be OU all the way it was just a matter of will he be a take on nsd or have to wait and try to qualify by the end of spring semester

As said, his grades are good and he’s a good kid from all accounts. He will get things in order and be a memorable player at OU. This is where I wouldn’t mind OU being ‘under signed’ so there will be a scholarship available, no question. BOOMER, Que!!!

I’m in belton and I don’t see him

  • James D-Space says:

Happy to hear about Overton. I hope everything works with him.
Reading about the potential to snag a couple of “flips”, well, had me doing flips of my own.
Thanks for the updates TFB. Boomer!!!!!!!!!

Ok guys, hate to break the suspense but I am going to be in Norman this weekend!! I know I am very underrated but at this stage, as our recruiting stands, we are not losing much, if any. haha! BOOMSOON

  • Tyler Cheek says:

School comes first. Before any extracurricular activities you choose to involve yourself in.

  • BoomerDave says:

Sounds real promising to get a commitment from Green this weekend. Here’s what I’m basing this on. He goes from a “secret visitor” to an “announced visitor” per Jordan. Thus, he’s not too worried what WSU thinks about him taking an official elsewhere. Also, this follows his position coach and primary recruiter interviewing for the WR coaching position at OU. Perhaps we should be asking Dahu who the next WR coach will be?

    • Sooner Ray says:

      I’m feeling good about it.

    • JJSoona says:

      Outstanding deductive reasoning Dave!! +1,000

    • Maverick says:

Hooray? I’ve gotta fix my attitude. I have a hard time getting excited about the backup plan to the backup plan to the backup plan.

Let me get right… Boomer Sooner!!!! Get some Dahu! #unmatched #justwaitonit #okpreps

      • BoomerDave says:

Maverick, get excited at your own discretion. From what I’ve heard, the kid can flat out play, I’m gonna trust the coaches on this one.

        • Maverick says:

If you trust the coaches, then you agree he wasn’t their first, second, or even third choice. I’m not saying he can’t/won’t be good. I’m just less excited when we don’t get the kids we have higher on the board.

          • boomersooner says:

you do realize we have some new coaches right? he could be their choice since they are now choosing him

          • Maverick says:

We do!? Lol. Yes. And they went to see a juco WR, Van Jefferson, Newsome, and Miller before offering Dahu Green. Again, not saying he won’t be good.

          • boomersooner says:

i think he’ll be a good’un. so yo tambien on the trusting of the coaches

          • soonerinks says:

From watching his film, the kid can flat out play and I have no concern about his talent. Have heard there might be some issues with work ethic and coachability but the coaches should certainly have a read on that.

          • Maverick says:

Wasn’t gonna bring that up, but that was the word around here. That he was a bit lazy. Coaches go and see local kids in person. Many times. And they get to hear/see things that they might not if the kid wasn’t local.

Either way, I hope he commits and wins 3 heismans.

          • JJSoona says:

            Geeeeeezzzzzzzzzz

      • Boom says:

He was the back up to the guys who left, not the ones who one who is there now.

  • Kevin says:

Having lived in the Temple/Belton, TX area for several years, the football teams there are generally pretty good. Tommie Harris came from Killeen (just 15-20 minutes down the road from Belton). Glad to hear that Coach BB was there today!

  • Zack says:

Sounding like wariboko will end up at OU. He could be trolling but he sounds all OU on Twitter and even asked ikard to follow him

  • Jackson1006 says:

Here’s to hoping Overton can be our next Kelly Gregg. The wrestling background is really under appreciated for D Lineman. I feel as a non expert that it makes a big difference.

  • Chris White says:

Coaches must have gotten the alumni to recruit here down the stretch

Did Campbell take a 1/16 visit to Miss State?

  • M Shuster says:

Watched some film on Dahu Green. What am I missing. Why is he only a 3 star? Straight line speed? Hands? Not as good at rout running? What am I missing. He looks pretty good!
