Dahu Green: As we reported yesterday, Westmoore WR Dahu Green has officially been extended an OU offer. Green told us afterwards that it felt good to finally get the offer, but he also seemed torn on what to do now. Green is still a Washington State commit, and Mike Leach has recruited him hard for some time now. In fact, he came down to Oklahoma for an in-home visit with Green somewhat recently.

As most of you know, Green was at one time committed to Louisville and actually decommitted because he felt Washington State simply recruited him better. He’s very conscious of the fact that the team that wants you the most will often afford you the greatest opportunity.

Meanwhile, Cale Gundy and Lincoln Riley did the in-home visit with Green last night. Dahu told us he really liked Riley and that the Sooners new OC is the main reason he is entertaining the OU offer. When we asked Dahu if he was going to take an official to OU this weekend, he said he still had not decided yet. Again, he’s clearly torn about how to feel with this late offer.

As far as OU’s wide receiver numbers go, we asked around and were told that OU will take “at least one more receiver.” Meaning they may be in a position to take both Green and A.D. Miller if that scenario were to present itself.

Dontavious Jackson: OU finally offered 2016 LB Dontavious Jackson yesterday. It was a bit coincidental that I (K) was talking with Dontavious just the day before, and he told me that he felt OU wasn’t really interested in him. That was clearly frustrating for him, because he is very much interested in the Sooners.

As we told you a while back, he has a connection to the program being good friends with OU linebacker Ogbonnia ‘Obo’ Okoronkwo. To be honest, I (K) am a little surprised it took OU this long to offer Jackson. Regardless, though, the offer was made and Jackson was excited about it. He has already told our guy Brandon that he’s planning to get up to Norman for one of OU’s upcoming Junior Days.

UPDATE (1:55 pm): Mike Stoops was in Dallas today and apparently stopped by to see 2016 DB, Reggie Stubblefield. He and coach Viney will also be in Austin later to see PJ Mbanasor.

– UPDATE (4:43 pm): Following today’s Board of Regents meeting, Lincoln Riley’s initial contract details were released. His contract runs through 1/31/2017 and he will be paid $500,000 annually (not including performance bonuses).

  • Stephen says:

I mean other than loyalty, what reasons would you pick Washington State over Oklahoma? That’s a battle that shouldn’t even need to be fought.

    • Jed says:

Captain Leach offered him a share an a harf of the booty!

    • CS says:

Leach and the opportunities for WRs, they had 4 500 yrd receivers last year, and about 10 100 yrd receivers!

    • D'Brickashaw Ferguson says:

It’s nice to go somewhere where you’re a “priority” (like Leach has made him) and not a last minute offer.

      • Stephen says:

I just don’t think we should be punished for the decisions of JH. That’s fair, right?

        • boomersooner says:

to me this is where the torn part should come in. “ok they have new offensive coaches and these guys like me and feel they need me. but man leach has been on me since inception”

      • CS says:

I honestly think recruits should learn to differentiate. Its about whats best for you and the other side what’s best for the program. It’s not personal, just business – in the scenario had OU offered lot early and Dahu had decided to go elsewhere, the staff or us wouldn’t be bent out of shape about his decision – would understand that its a for his best and let it be.

        • boomersooner says:

this makes tons of sense but very hard to do in the moment. you always want to be wanted and especially by the schools you have ties to or are close to home etc

    • Birddawg says:

WSU showed recognition of the young mans talent. Respect and immediate opportunity. Recruited and built that relationship.
      That’s a hard decision.

      Leach is a good evaluator.
How often does OU go after recruits after Mike Leach offers.
OU didn’t offer Sam Bradford until after Leach did.

      • Soonerfandave84 says:

If I remember correctly, Chuck Long had to beg Stoops to offer him(Sammy B.)

        • Steve Johns says:

          That is correct.

        • BoomerDave says:

Again, totally bogus. I’m good friends with Sam’s Dad. This is just not correct. Look it up, Sam committed in May of his JR year. First QB offered in his class.

          • Steve Johns says:

Guess I’m remembering wrong, thought Long stated he had to work on Stoops before offering Sam. Regardless, it all worked out.

          • Soonerfandave84 says:

How does him being the first QB committed mean Chuck Long didnt have to talk Bob Stoops into it?

          • Coach K says:

I was told by Sam’s teammate and future teammate that Tech was where he was going to go until OU came and offered.

      • BoomerDave says:

Not true at all. Sam was OU’s first commit in his class. Committed in May of his JR year.

        • soonermusic says:

Hate to see facts getting in the way of critical remarks about our recruiting abilities…:-)

        • Coach K says:

Sam was offered first by Tech and almost committed to them. I know this from his friend and teammate at OU who was playing AAU basketball with Sam at the time.

    • ccmosaic says:

Green seems to be impressed with OU and grateful to WSU for showing him early love. I think Green wants OU but feels he should honor WSU.

  • CS says:

I am curious as to why OU has not gone after another TE? Is there a role for TEs in this offense?

  • Robertson / Robertson 2016 says:

Don’t like the idea of missing out on in-state talent. Teddy Lehman. Rocky Calmus. Bradford. Gresham. Gerald McCoy. All Okies. No reason we should let these kids slip out of OU hands.

In saying that, let’s give some Okie LBs a look, shall we?

    • Stephen says:

      Whitfield?

      • Robertson / Robertson 2016 says:

        Exactly.

      • Soonerfandave84 says:

Whitfield is from my hometown, I’d be very happy to see him a Sooner

        • CW says:

          Drive thru there everyday..

        • BleedCrimson says:

I graduated from Pocola 1981, and my grandparents lived in Panama… Very familiar in my youth.

        • Mysterio1 says:

But does anybody know if Whitfield can play Linebacker? That is the hold up with his recruitment, Kish has seen him twice.
Tim Kish has failed as a recruiter, he’s done pretty good with two young undersized linebackers.
You can’t tell me after so many years as a coach that Kish can’t spot a talent when it’s right in front of him?
For you guys that have seen Whitfield play… what is it?

    • D'Brickashaw Ferguson says:

Riley Daniel and Darreyl Patterson this class

    • SoonerfanTU says:

You are comparing guys that were 4-5* recruits, to guys that aren’t. I know Bradford was just a 3*, and not sure on Calmus. But please don’t compare recruiting Lehman, Gresham, and McCoy, to not recruiting Whitfield.

      • Robertson / Robertson 2016 says:

        Larry Birdine – 3*
        Sam Bradford – 3*
        Tress Way – 2*
        Gabe Ikard – 3*
        Aaron Colvin – 3*
        Julian Wilson – 3*

That better? That’s off the top of my head.

        • SoonerfanTU says:

Bet I can quadruple that list, pretty easily, of OK kids in the 2-3 star range that never played a meaningful snap.

          • Robertson / Robertson 2016 says:

That’s nice. But please don’t compare recruiting in-state kids of years past that never worked out (because we all know out-of-state 4 and 5-stars NEVER bust, right?) to not recruiting current in-state kids simply because the “experts” didn’t jot an extra “star” by their name. Thanks.

Other 3-star Okies on the current roster:
            –Dom Alexander
            –J. Evans
            –Mead
            –Meier

          • D Hunter Sanchez says:

You remember in 2009 BS said that we are a national program, and hence, we are going to recruit nationally. I am wondering if he really meant that there is now a lower priority on Okie and Texas kids?

          • Robertson / Robertson 2016 says:

Man, I hope not. Just want to see Okies stay Okies is all.

      • Soonerfandave84 says:

Teddy Lehman was a no star kid. http://247sports.com/Player/Ted-Lehmann-72147

    • Jonathan Taylor says:

      Sternberger and Simon plz. Lol

  • Dwebb_96 says:

With NSD just next week I was curious about the QB situation. Has anyone heard anything about how Riley feels about the QB’s on campus? I realize he got here late in the game to try to recruit a quality h.s. kid, but the Sooners have been actively working to flip other commits. I have read very little about how Riley feels about the ones already on scholarship.
Makes my day when I see an open post! Thanks for all of your hard work!

    • Collin says:

He was quoted saying,“We’re going to be very blessed in that quarterback room,” Riley said. “I’ve heard people on the outside say that’s a question mark. To me, we have three guys in that room who have started major college football games. There’s plenty to work with in that group. … We have what we need in that room to be successful.”

      • ccmosaic says:

I believe that to be the truth. I think we will be shocked how much better the QB position will be next year. We simply needed QB development.

        • soonermusic says:

When we get great wr’s on the field, and noticeably improved performance there, I think everyone will be impressed with how the qb’s have suddenly “developed.”

        • Jed says:

That and an identity. We never really decided what we wanted to be…and therefore never ‘grew up’.

          • Mysterio1 says:

JMO, but I feel Josh has slipped with his QB recruitment. He hasn’t been on a true QB since Gunner Kiel. Meaning that Gunner has been a QB since late pop- warner. Release wise and technique wise he is not a project.
Hansen and Thomas are still young, but they need work. Baseball has really hurt Thomas’s release.
At some point Josh should have stepped in and told him, you have to make a choice if you’re going to be a QB at OU.
I like TK a lot, he is a good kid, but he starts at the back, he may catch fire, but he’s had 3 years to prove he is our starter.
Baker has looked good, we’ll find out more.

          • Jed says:

What have you seen of Hansen that needs work? I thought he looked to have the best motion of any of them.

          • Mysterio1 says:

All I said was that he is young, they really hoped to keep his red shirt, meaning that at one point in the season, they were very temped to play him?
Hansen looked very good in the spring game, I am very excited to see what he has to offer.

          • Jed says:

Totally agree. Wasn’t arguing, just curious. I’m thinking he may be the most complete package among the QBs we have. And, although young, he’s had a year on the practice field, in the weight room, on the nutrition plan and with the coaches.
He’s supposedly a pass first guy with acceptable wheels, kind of what we are led to understand Riley wants.

    • Bob Edwards says:

Given a scholarship limit of 85, with twenty-two position on offense and defense, and a couple of specialty players like kickers and deep snappers you have a little less than four slots per position. Some positions like WR allow you to allot a little less because they can play in multiple slots.

So you really end up with about four slots for QB. We currently have four QB’s on campus so we don’t really have an empty slot. Now if you got a really good one, you would probably take him but otherwise you skip this year.

  • trusoonerA53 says:

Let’s not for get Dahu was slighted by JH as not what he wanted early 2014

  • D'Brickashaw Ferguson says:

Dontavious Jackson and Caleb Kelly should be priority #1A & #1B for the next 12 months.

    • Soonerfandave84 says:

      This X1000

    • Rob Stover says:

Rahshaun Smith should be 1C then…..man, what a linebacker class that would be

      • Mr. Jones says:

Really seems like OU is in good shape with some stud 2016 prospects.

        • Stephen says:

That’s what we said this year…

          • ccmosaic says:

Yelp. Oh and the year before. We have been in the top 3 for at least 8 good LBs over the last two years. And so far out of all those (really good) LBs we signed one this year.

          • Soonerfandave84 says:

WR recruiting was a bunch of near misses as well. Norvell was in on Agholor, DGB, and Treadwell…Imagine if OU had all three of those guys last year(KD Cannon too)

          • Fear The Magic says:

Good, well now Norvell can near miss with Texas.

          • Indy_sooner says:

            Julio Jones too…

          • Mr. Jones says:

This is true and it may turn out that way again. But after seeing Monty work this year, I’ll maintain confidence on any guys he’s the main recruiter for (R. Smith, Agim).

          • Mysterio1 says:

Very true, Kish had a who’s who list of linebackers to choose from. Or so we were lead to believe.

        • Soonerboyz says:

If OU continues to have on the field issues…then the so called ‘good shape’ has a way of ..’at one time’.

      • hOUligan says:

Difference here is Monty is on this guy. Smith, Kelly and Jackson are all very high on OU. With Monty in the house, like OUr odds.

        • Fear The Magic says:

That would be hilarious if in two years LB was our strongest position and Kish our recruiting God.

          • Randy says:

I think it was our strongest last year, and will be this year again. Depending on who takes Grissom’s spot, and how they work in FShannon (if he is still on the team ofc).

          • JB says:

I think peace in the Middle East is a more realistic proposition.

    • Doobie74OU says:

YES! YES! YES! In fact if we could get these guys in on the junior days we have coming up and get them both to commit early it would go a long way to easing our fears and worries at LB

    • Mr. Jones says:

Definitely. I could see Kelly being a kid that commits before next season starts.

    • hOUligan says:

From that Oct post, sounds like Kish has been in on him for a while and Jackson is really high on OU. If Kish could swing him and Kelly all would be forgotten. And maybe that’s why he’s still at OU…in good with some 2016 kids.

      • Soonerfandave84 says:

Need to get Hatari Byrd & Michiah Quick in his ear when they get Kelly on campus too

        • hOUligan says:

It’s early but 247 crystal ball is 100% OU for Kelly.

          • Soonerfandave84 says:

Man I hope so. Sooners need some playmakers at LB. Dom and Jordan Evans are solid players who make tackles but OU needs guys who make plays too. Not really had one since Lofton left either

  • Lane Gilstrap says:

What is Caleb Kelly’s connection to OU?

  • bjwalker82 says:

Honestly, love the Sooners and would like to have Dahu Green, but if I am him I stick with Wazzu. We waited until too late. He shouldn’t have had to wait this long for an offer. Like K says, the Cougars will offer him the best opportunity.

That said, we had extract our head from that other area soon.

    • BigJoeBrown says:

      Sadly, I have to agree.

    • F1at1ined says:

The biggest thing in OU’s favor is though we offered late, he was offered really soon after Lincoln Riley was hired. Meaning, Lincoln offered him within a couple of weeks of taking over as OC. I realize Wazzou has been recruiting him longer, but Riley with OU’s resources and history and opportunity was only recently able to begin wooing him.
I have a feeling OU can steal Dahu if they hard sell him on playing in the Crimson and Cream. Much nearer to family, and how can a WR not be excited about the prospect of playing in Riley’s offense?

    • Charles Suggs says:

You choose a school by when they offered? No way. You choose a school that matches your abilities on the field, your interests in academics, your proximity to home, your relationship to your position coach, the last thing you consider is how long they have been recruiting you. Now that relationship to your position coach may bite us on the Asst. Coach.

      • bjwalker82 says:

I would consider that they didn’t offer me until other things had fallen through, which frankly is pretty crappy.

        • boomersooner says:

yeah but hopefully he would consider the fact that the offensive coaches who didn’t want him aren’t here no more

      • JB says:

It’s more than just where your skill set fits especially since his skill set as a WR fits most offenses. Most people go with who they feel comfortable with and built solid relationships with (especially when they’ve spent months building that relationship). A year vs a week? That doesn’t exactly look to favor OU. Hopefully, the fact OU is a big time program and Wazzu is not will win out & Riley proves to be one heck of a persuader.

  • Sooner4life says:

Does anyone know exactly how many scholarships we have available for this year?

  • Lane Gilstrap says:

That #19 jersey will be available for Caleb Kelly next year too since Striker will graduate.

  • Exiled In Ohio says:

If Green felt disrespected (which would be natural), perhaps the fact that our OC and Receivers coaches are gone is actually a plus. LR can say “I’m not responsible for their opinions: I think you are perfect for us.”

    • Mysterio1 says:

Two things about Green, one is that he is not an Oklahoma kid, and most felt he wanted to back back to California?
The other is that Norville was looking for blazers, shorter WR’s that could play in the slot.
Riley wants more speed, but he may have to go with play makers at this time.
I’ve always liked Green, and I’m glad he has an offer.

  • Jordan Esco says:

Is anybody else having trouble w/ the comments?

  • Soonerboyz says:

Remember Broyles…sometimes late is not too late.

  • Randy says:

This is the ILB I would love to see OU get on campus this weekend.. Austin Wyatt-Thayer

    http://www.hudl.com/athlete/666315/highlights/203976378

    • SamSooner says:

Randy, thanks for posting. I watched about 30 seconds and saw all I needed to see. Don’t give this kid an area to cover. Let him cover any area he wants because he can find the ball.

    • MoJoOkie says:

Looks pretty good to me. 6’4″ @235. Only offers I see are Fresno and Hawaii. Can’t find his speed, but he plays pretty fast.

      • Randy says:

Perfect size for our 3-4 ILB, he looks as fast as our LB’s now so I am good with it and he finds the football..

    • Josh says:

Plays pretty high but he is 6’4 but that will get him in trouble at the next level. Needs to work on his footwork, too many false steps but that is typical for high school kids. Does a good job of scrapping over the top and not getting caught in the wash. Understands angels, pretty good job with run fits, solid tackler but its a highlight film so that is to be expected. Needs to work on his drops but I don’t know what the schemes were so don’t want to be too critical but he needs to get eyes on the routes. Saw enough this year of LBs staring down the QB and covering green instead of seeing who was working their direction.

      • Randy says:

I am ok with all that.. If he needs then redshirt him get him ready for ’16.

        • Josh says:

I am always in favor of red shirting LBs whenever possible. It is the rare 18/19 yr old kid that is ready to compete against the 21/22 yr old linemen they will be seeing.

    • MoJoOkie says:

Only thing I see is that he is a Juco. He’d be behind the current kids at least from a system familiarity point. Be good for depth. Do you know what his remaining eligibility is?

    • JB says:

Would be a nice pickup. We’ve had good luck with Cali juco LBs (e.g. Lance Mitchell).

    • JD says:

Coaches must be happy with the progress of TEvans and Bolton to not hit the juco trail… we need at least 2 four year guys this year and load up on em next year and possibly a juco guy next year as well if they can red shirt since most jucos want to come in and play immediately

  • D'Brickashaw Ferguson says:

Just watched some of McGinnis’s film for the 1st time on my lunch break. Now I see why EasTex loves his skills so much.

Really hope he makes the visit and he chooses OU. We could use a LB like him

    • SamSooner says:

      Link?

        • SamSooner says:

Thanks, Brick. I could have said D or D’Brick but Brick sounds more solid. Judging by your avatar, Brick is good for me. Uh, unless you object. LOL!

          • D'Brickashaw Ferguson says:

This is my roster photo for the Jets. My lunch break is a protein smoothie and beef jerky.

Only my momma calls me my full name “D’Brickashaw.” Most of my friends on the team call me “D’Brick…” except Geno Smith (who avoids me after I told him to stop throwing INT’s)

          • SamSooner says:

Well, if I’m Geno, I think it would be easier to avoid the interceptions than to avoid you. It would certainly be my motivation. I’ve been curious, what is your OU connection? Why do you take such interest in OU football when you’re a UV graduate?

          • hOUligan says:

Seriously!?! Figured it was just a fan of ‘Brick’. Never dreamed it might be THE BRICK. Seriously!?!

          • SamSooner says:

I thought it might be based on his objective posts. Always spot on and very much in charge of what he says.

          • hOUligan says:

Could tell he is very knowledgeable but we have a few guys on here that are coaches and/or played beyond hs. Great knowledge base here. Love this place!!

          • D'Brickashaw Ferguson says:

Grew up in NY, always an OU fan due to Switzer’s teams. They never offered me out of high school so I had to choose between Mich State and UVA. UVA was prettier (I freakin’ love lush trees), so I went to Charlottesville.

As for Geno…when I said I “told him,” I really meant “pushed him into his locker after the 3 INT Bills game and said, “Bro throw to the green jerseys you moron!”

          • SamSooner says:

Cool. Like I said, that’d be motivation for me.
Listen, it’s great to have you here posting. That gives us great insight.

          • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Will you be available to nudge TK or BM if they start playing like morons this year?

          • SoonerGoneEast says:

FWIW, your mother should have named you D’Brickwall.

          • boomersooner says:

            yes thanks brick

          • Boom says:

            D Brick, like it.

          • Katyboomer says:

So cool to have you on the site. Look forward to your insite

          • Indy_sooner says:

Proof or it ain’t true. This is epic…I always thought you were one of those Kay and Peel things

          • Indy_sooner says:

What do you know. You made the latest edition.

        • SamSooner says:

One, flippin’ word sums this kid up. Nope, not freak. fast, big, strong, special, not any of them. The word that comes to mind is he’s”ineffable.”

Ineffable: adjective; incapable of being expressed or described in words; inexpressible:

        • OkieRandolph says:

This guy, ladies and gentlemen, IS the type of linebacker we HAVEN’T had on our team in a LONG time. You don’t see carriers getting 3-5 more yards after contact when he’s in the pile.

    • hOUligan says:

From his performance at ‘The Opening’

McGinnis, 6 feet 2, 228 pounds, ran a 4.69 40-yard dash, had a 32.4″ vertical jump and finished with a 106.35 SPARQ rating, which was in the Top 100 ratings in the country for most of the offseason.

The one guy left that IMO is the priority.

    • Clint Lenard says:

Didn’t realize he was #50, but he reminds me a lot of another #50 that plays in Louisiana, and at one time OU.

  • Richard Gray says:

I feel like with joe mixon beening a part of the team this year will help alot in recruiting in 2015-2016 class

  • Josh says:

So I was just sitting here thinking about the guys that are on the squad and will be taking the field next year and what players will really need to come on and have strong seasons in order to have a great season. See what y’all think of these guys… On D: Jordan Thomas, Romar, Obo, and Steven Parker. On O: obviously whoever wins the starting QB and OT spots, and Mixon and Quick.

    • hOUligan says:

Good start. A lot of guys. Tapper needs to turn it on as does Wade. LBs as a unit and Shannon make a statement. On O Quick and KJ and hopefully Dede is as advertised.

      • Josh says:

Yeah Tap really needs to have the kind of year we all thought he was going to have. Getting Shannon back is going to be huge!

    • Bob Edwards says:

Last year we did a really good job of catching punts. This year I hope we can get to the next level and run with the ball after we catch it. So someone who could do that would be nice.

      • Josh says:

Totally agree about that! Just look at what Alex Ross was able to do on kick offs. They have to be able to find someone to put back there that is a viable threat.

        • Bob Edwards says:

Yeah, we have enough WR’s and RB’s that we should have someone who could catch the ball and at least run a couple of yards.

        • BoomerDave says:

I think that Tito Windham could be that guy. He was a punt returner extraordinaire in HS.

    • Boom says:

I would add the LB’s too as they need to step up their game especially in the middle passing lanes.

      • Josh says:

Yeah they were terrible in their drops and in route recognition. I think Shannon coming back to play the Mike position which has more coverage responsibilities will be a huge help.

        • Boom says:

Agree. It got to a point where I was just hoping they would look for the crossing route and just knock the guy down. Worry about the flag later.

          • Josh says:

Exactly! And college rules are different from the NFLs. There is no Illegal Contact in the NCAA.

  • Jeff says:

Yeah OU better get atleast 3-4 LB’s next year.

  • Shelby is a Patriot says:

Well, better late than never on the Dahu Green offer. Though, I understand if he chooses to stick with Washington State in the end.

  • Ryan Little says:

Apparently this kid needs an offer. At this point, it sure couldn’t hurt for Riley to take a look at him…

    http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2322488-the-best-football-prospect-nobodys-ever-heard-of

    • Josh says:

I saw New Mexico QB and got the chills. The universe is a funny thing… As much as Landry drove me crazy I sure did miss that guy the last two years. I can’t even begin to imagine his numbers if he would have played in the “Air Raid” offense.

      • Ryan Little says:

That’s exactly what I was thinking. Seems to fit the exact mold he would be looking for. But then again, I don’t get paid to evaluate talent…

      • SoonerSouthoftheRed says:

        Exactly what I was thinking…NM QB…hmmm…sketchy.

    • KJ1123 says:

Looks like the kid can play. Not sure if he’s D1 QB material but hes a good looking athlete. If he’s gone to all those camps and hasn’t gotten one offer, something may be up with his mechanics? But still, I don’t see why he wouldn’t get an offer. Seems like the kids a winner regardless.

    • JD says:

Riley must like the 4 we have on campus and is wanting to use the extra spot for a wr….this kid will no doubt commit if offered and I admit i got to thinking about Landry Jones…he very well could turn into a nice qb for us if we took him…just think Riley is happy with our 4 guys and looking to the 16 class for a qb

      • HoustonChiver says:

If (when?) Mayfield wins the job, I could see one or two of the others transferring.

        • JD says:

I’m not sold on him completely…he did well against techs ooc schedule but looked like our qbs last year against b12 competition…maybe he’s improved…maybe the others have as well…we’ll see

          • HoustonChiver says:

I really feel Allen would have never seen the field at OU except in mop-up duty like he was used to. Thompson should have a good shot at starting for Utah this season right?

          • JD says:

Didn’t Thompson hurt his knee..and also rumors that he was looking to transfer again because he couldn’t win the job to another underclassman…Thompson would have seen the field here last season no doubt about it

    • Jeremy Phillips says:

He’s a got a Philip Rivers short, sidearm motion.. I don’t think that’d be enough to keep people away though… Either totally fell through the cracks or there is something not being said in the article..

  • Jed says:

Brainiacs, just read an article on Saivion Smith (IMG Bradenton, FL) Jr DB. What do you know about him. Weinke’s his coach. Is OU talking with him, yet?

  • kokevo says:

Anyone else watch Nathan Fox highlights??? If not you should reminds me of a special sooner that we all know and love #BABYBOZ #HADMEATNECKROLL

  • OU_Sooners says:

I’m not sure when I started following, but I’ve been an advocate of Esco for a while. Dude is great and he knows his stuff. He also does not shy away from conversation. This site is sweet.

  • Sooner Ray says:

Seen the Update(1:55 pm): Mike Stoops was in Dallas today and……….Dang, got excited there for just a second. 🙂

  • Jason Vos says:

OU should be chasing this Fehoko. He is a MLB/OLB and had 21 sacks this year. He just decommitted from Colorado

  • Brian says:

“Exciting times ahead for the Sooners.”

  • Glocal Sooner says:

Seeing how much things change during a “current” recruiting season, it always blows my mind how far out schools recruit players. Just goes to show how important that long-term relationship is and how the players (and I’m the same way) need to feel needed and wanted. I wouldn’t commit to a school either if they waited until less than a month before NSD and offered me (not talking about Dahu Green here specifically). In looking at 2016, here are a few guys we need to offer soon:
    DT Mike Williams, Braylon Jones.
    RB Quan Hogan, Tony Jones
    DE Andrew Fitzgerald
    WR TJ Vasher, Javon McKinley

  • Mr. Jones says:

Is Darrion Daniels committing on NSD?

  • Soonerfandave84 says:

Boren announcing holding off on stadium project–per Carey Murdock

    • Jeremy Phillips says:

Due to oil prices it seems… Guess we need some more snazzy uni’s to showcase for a while…

      • Soonerboyz says:

        🙁 little boom

      • Soonerfandave84 says:

No doubt oil prices are a piece of the pie, but also from the lack of excitement from the fanbase that is a complete 180 from this time last year is hurting too

    • Maverick says:

Thought they were going to sell bonds? I’m blaming the Saudis.

    • Dustin says:

Does anyone tailgate south of the stadium? That looks like it’s coming to an end.

    • Maverick says:

On a related note, the “Residential College” facility concept modeled after Oxford, Cambridge, Harvard, etc. sounds pretty cool.

Gotta give it up to what Boren has accomplished.

  • KJ1123 says:

Here’s an under the radar LB out west. Someone who may not get alot of attention outside of a few schools in Cali. Only problem is, once OU offers anyone, they dont stay under the radar for long.

    http://www.hudl.com/athlete/3473543/highlights/167847375

  • James D-Space says:

Man, I need to see a “BOOM” soon. This rejection is getting a little depressing.
Feels like I’m still in a relationship with my EX-wife!

    • JTrain51 says:

Watch out! You’re teetering on negativity. There’s 3 sunshine pumpers on here that do not condone the slightest negative remark and if they deem you a threat they will unite and blast you with their passive aggressive, rainbowish, witticism.

      • James D-Space says:

All different kind of fans. However, I did qualify my remarks with EX-wife. Statistics tell me that about 60% of Folks understand the frustration of lack of “BOOMS”. It’s all good…

  • Dustin says:

Can someone please explain to me what oil prices have to do with stadium expansion?

  • Soonerfandave84 says:

Have a good evening fellers. The OU brass screwed the pooch on this one!

    • Maverick says:

Agree to disagree. Our facilities aren’t going to hold us back. Other than a weight room, everything else is nice.

  • Stephen says:

So what they’re really saying is, “We probably shouldn’t have waited forever to actually upgrade our facilities to current standad’s. Hmm, sorry Bob. Hope this won’t hurt recruiting and ticket sales.”

    • JTrain51 says:

And hey let’s announce that were putting off stadium expansion a week before nsd and after the coaching staff has been selling recruits on new facilities for months now! That is such a great idea!

      • Stephen says:

Yeah, they didn’t really think that one through. Nice of them do it right before NSD.

      • Fear The Magic says:

If I didnt know better you’d think between how Boren handled the Shannon situation and now this that hes almost trying to sabotage the football program and BStoops. Now I know thats ridiculous but for sure Borens decisions havent been football friendly as of late.
I get that the funds are suddenly not available for renovations but they sure seem to be available for his pet residential project.

  • JTrain51 says:

It’s time for Boren to retire.

    • L'Carpetron Dookmarriot says:

You again. Just a ray of sunshine…

      • JTrain51 says:

Lol, you don’t know me bro. Boren has been making bad decisions since conference realignment and Kish needs to go. If you disagree then you are wrong and that’s all there is to it. You’re gonna try and pigeon hole me because I complained about 2 things? Go ahead. Most would agree with me.

    • Sooner Ray says:

Some don’t like decisions he’s made, just as many think he is the best Pres. ever at OU. You are entitled to your opinion, just leave out the part that everyone else is wrong. Personally I don’t have an opinion on him one way or the other.

      • JTrain51 says:

I was speaking about Kish needing to be gone when I made that statement about “being wrong”. I just didn’t clarify good. This guy got mad a couple of days ago bc I was critical of Kish. That’s what I was referring to.

    • BoomerDave says:

Anyone who knows anything knows that Boren has been a great President for the University and the Football Program.

      • boomersooner says:

“but i just want to bitch. can’t you just let me bitch?”

        • JTrain51 says:

          Speaking of bitches

          • boomersooner says:

i know. pleased to meet you. i’m boomersooner

          • JTrain51 says:

            Lol

          • Boom says:

JTrain, I’m frustrated on the no football expansion too. Let’s just try to agree and disagree in a normal way. I’m not getting on ya, just trying to keep the site enjoyable for everyone.

          • JTrain51 says:

I totally agree but like anyone else if someone comes after me I’m gonna to get back at them. I’m sure you can understand that. Not the 1st time he’s said something either but that’s the first time I’ve retorted.

          • Boom says:

Not sure revenge is the way to go. However, the goal of the board is to agree and disagree in a civil or educated manor. Revenge really doesn’t fit in that category. Don’t mean to be the police and not going after you but just a voice of reason. thanks for reading if you got this far.

      • JTrain51 says:

Would have totally agreed with this 3-5 years ago. In my opinion his decision making has been less than stellar since conference realignment. He was made to look foolish and weak by texas. It’s went downhill since.

      • JTrain51 says:

Look how Boren handled Shannon, he just announced that he’s putting off stadium expansion a week before nsd after the coaching staff have been selling recruits on new facilities. But announces he’s spending $125 million on a dorm and parking garage which is around 1/3 of the stadium expansion budget. A stadium expansion that should have been done 5 years ago. Keep pumping sunshine if you want. Is it the end of the world? No. Is it a poor decision that’s detrimental to recruiting which is the lifeblood of a college football program? Yes absolutely

        • L'Carpetron Dookmarriot says:

@BoomerDave:disqus, the above is why many grow frustrated with message boards. JT will not be happy.

    • JTrain51 says:

Or maybe Carey needs to retire lol. Weird situation.

  • Jordan Esco says:

Update added re: Lincon Riley’s contract

  • Docknoss says:

I’m sure the Price of Oil is playing a major part in the Remodeling. But if Bob can actually win a NC or even a Big12 title outright. Donor’s will start opening up they’re check books.

    • Lane Gilstrap says:

Don’t plan this upgrade if you can’t aecure the funds. It’s that simple.

      • Sooner Ray says:

I think pledges were made before the oil price drop, some didn’t see it coming. If people are pulling back based on personal financial positions, can’t really blame them.

  • Maverick says:

I’m confused why everyone is so upset about the stadium expansion. It’s not like people were demanding an upgrade before the announcement for them was made.

    • Boom says:

They are still eating in the same place as Switzer’s boys. Think about that timeframe. It’s not even close to OSU much less the big boys. Think tOSU, Bama’s of the world would cancel their renovations? I think not. To me, there was more smoke to this than we know.

  • Stephen says:

So I just got a notification saying that Boren is denying that the expansion is being delayed? I’m so confused. Help.

  • soonerbear52 says:

Wonder if OU is plugging leaks. Boren had that report awfully fast, and knew it was from the AD. Any chance someone was intentionally fed bad info?

  • Maverick says:

So according to Jason Kersey’s twitter, Boren pulled out the article about stadium expansion and shot it down. Interesting. Starting to think the story could have some truth, but Boren didn’t want it getting out yet.

  • John Garner says:

I don’t understand why we offered Dahu Green so late in the process. Is he a Plan B prospect? I mean if he is OU good now, why not before?

    • Boom says:

The guys evaluating before didn’t like the fit. The new OC likes Dahu. Different strokes for different folks. I like it, Dahu has been a fan favorite on this site for a very long time.

      • John Garner says:

You’re right. Didn’t think of that. Speaking of thinking, I like how the new guy thinks.

    • BoomerDave says:

Apparently, Norvell didn’t like him as much as Riley does. He is a hard recruit to figure out. Seems to be a great talent with very few offers. I really think he can play, but I’m not a D-1 coach either.

      • John Garner says:

Well there is the question can Norvell coach? Last year’s performance would suggest otherwise. If the new kid on the block likes Dahu, so do I.

  • Stephen says:

Found this on LT. Had to share it with you.

    • ToatsMcGoats says:

This may be my new profile pic in the near future…

      • boomersooner says:

no man. yours is part of what makes you you. you even had easton writing about you in the one thread. haha

        • ToatsMcGoats says:

Haha! Yeah, maybe it could just be a NSD special event or something…I’ll always be a mullet/mustache man.

    • sooner8 says:

Once OU is Harvard I will take care of the football program!!Remember the debacle with the Borens friend from Wisconson and the OU Pride!!What a screw up!!!

    • kt-raida says:

      lol

    • OkieRandolph says:

Hey DB, I think those “shovel ready jobs” was some other bafoons campaign speech! How about asking some of your “National Merit Scholar” grads to pony up a few more bucks since they got a FREEEEEE OUT OF STATE degree. Oh, that’s right, they went back home to a job, and the poor state of Oklahoma got ZILCH.

  • John Garner says:

Hey Jordan — is TFB part of 247 Sports now? I saved the website to my favorites bar and it shows up with 247 icon in front of it.

    • Jordan Esco says:

      Um, absolutely not.

      • Zack says:

Lol. I was going to ask a similar question but not about 247. I listened to part of hales show today and instead of Thomas he had a guy “drake” and I was going to ask earlier if this is Brandon?

        • Maverick says:

I thought “Ace” and Drake were the same person? Or maybe Ace just went to Drake and Drake is a different person.

      • John Garner says:

        Thanx. Must be my computer.

        • Jordan Esco says:

no worries. i’ve experienced something similar at times w/ other sites as well. but to be honest, i don’t really pay that much attention to it 🙂

  • Jonathan Taylor says:

The only thing I don’t like about the Riley contract is the length. 2 years seems a little light for someone who’s supposed to bring in a change. Maybe they plan to see how things go first, but I would have at least made it 3 or 4 years with outs in-case something happens.

  • soonerinks says:

Changing the subject for a minute, Sooners are leading 46-17 early in 2nd half. Spangler is having a helluva game.

    • Maverick says:

Ugh. Not a fan of the cryptic social media nonsense.

“I have secrets. I’m not going to tell you what they are, but I want you to know that I have them.”

      • Zack says:

I will say if there’s a slight story/name being held, I’m ok with it. If end the end the kid ends up somewhere else then I won’t feel like we lost out like I feel about Neal and jefferson. And that’s not tfb’s fault for everyone thinking those were locks, other sites were promoting the same info.

        • Maverick says:

Yeah I don’t get mad at TFB when/if they’re wrong. It’s free info and kids change their minds. No big deal.

I just never understand the point of the cryptic stuff. And especially this one. What the heck does a flat earth have to do with hope? I think someone at TFB is at happy hour.

        • Lincoln Hawk says:

I’m hoping that it is more to do with awesome coaching hires, then the kids will come

    • Sooner Ray says:

It’s about time to harvest that crop.

  • Easton says:

    Jordan Woodard dunk was spectacular.

  • Easton says:

    Twitter fun at the bar.

  • Sooner Ray says:

I see the analogy between recruiting and farming….but I grew up in the country.

    • Maverick says:

Me too. I guess I’m too slow to get it. Flat earth is good for farming right?

      • Sooner Ray says:

Can’t speak for the person behind the tweet but this is my take, The field is a flat piece of earth, the ground is worked and seeds are planted ( the recruiter working the recruit ), Fertilizer and rain (follow up visits), then if all goes right the crop is harvested…..BOOM!

  • boomersooner says:

i got a chuckle here. thanks

    tictac sir?

  • Katyboomer says:

Do you all think the spring game will be closed this year? I think it may, due to installing a new O.

  • Drink14me says:

It’s not like the big twelve has never seen a passing offense. We got nothing to hide. Stop us.

  • Boomer4life says:

    Really hoping we get Green!

    • EasTex says:

I can’t stop thinking about McGinnis and Daniels.

      • Boomer4life says:

        Well…here’s to Christmas coming late.

        • EasTex says:

There are a bunch of good ones we are still in on.

          • Boomer4life says:

Agreed! I’m just passively optimistic due to the silent confidence of Monty on Twitter. Hoping these coaches can bring it in on NSD.

          • EasTex says:

They have always seemed to pull it together on signing day. I wouldn’t be surprised even a little if there was a big name recruit that falls to us on NSD.

          • Boom says:

McGinnis & Houston, would that be a haul along with Daniels. Now if the baby face killer and his sidekick came too, well now, we would have to throw a party.

          • EasTex says:

Dang, that would put is in compo with USC for the #2 recruiting class.

          • Boom says:

Your nickname of Murray if spot on and I’ve used it several times. Love nicknames more than their initials. Night Train Lane, stuff like that just give me goose bumps. The other stuff doesn’t do it but I guess it’s the times

          • EasTex says:

Yeah, now they use one name or change their name to suit their alias.
Dandy Don, Roger the Dodger, Too Tall, Manster, Stork and who could forget Crazy Legs along with too many to list, love a good nic.

  • j l says:

Strange, some people earlier said they saw 247 associated with TFB in their browser, now im seeing the B/R icon in front of TFB’s name on my chrome tab.

      Awesome.

      • EasTex says:

After a horrible two years, the past two seasons have shown dramatic improvement with this staff. They made the playoffs the past two seasons and had it ended by Lancaster this year.

So we drop Heupel and are able to get his replacement for less money. I’d call that icing on the cake.

        Glad to know that.
And to think I almost didn’t post it because of the sweaty eyeball risk to me. 🙂
I have probably watched that video a hundred times since I first saw it.
