Happy Friday!
PJ Mbanasor: Had a chance to catch up with the OU commit this week, who said he’s expecting Mike Stoops, Jerry Montgomery, and Chip Viney to be by to visit him today.
Antoine Stephens: As we shared with you earlier, Oklahoma had an in-home visit last night with 2015 DB, Antoine Stephens. Bob Stoops, Jay Boulware, Montgomery, and Viney were all in attendance. Once the OU staff left, Miss. State stopped in, followed by Texas Tech. We’ve been told that Texas will likely lose two of their currently committed out-of-state DBs to Auburn, so don’t be surprised to see Texas turn up the heat, as they have been recruiting Stephens for a while.
We spoke to Stephen’s coach about the in-home visit (he was in attendance) with the OU coaches and he said, “it couldn’t have gone better…Antoine was smiling ear-t0-ear.” He also said the OU coaches made it clear to Antoine that, “we want you, and we need you.” And the fact is that once Antoine’s qualifying test score came back at the end of December, OU was one of the first schools to offer. So they’ve been demonstrating the proof of that statement. Additionally, Antoine and his family were impressed that no less than four coaches came to the house, including the head man himself.
Stephens will be in Norman this weekend and hopefully the Sooners will get a “Boom.” As most of you know, Antoine had planned on committing yesterday, but his family felt it would be best if he pushed the date back and continue to evaluate his options.
Also, thought y’all might like this side note, Stephen’s coach said that Antoine’s uncle is a huge OU fan. He said, “his uncle was over there talking to coach Stoops about OU history…old players, old games…he (Stephen’s uncle) knew everything about OU.”
Arthur McGinnis: For the first time yesterday we heard Tim Kish’s name on the recruiting trail. Coach Kish was in Louisiana and went by to visited 2015 LB Arthur McGinnis. We are told that the visit went well and McGinnis confirmed his visit schedule last night. He shared with us he will be at Arizona this coming weekend, followed by Texas Tech, and will take his final visit to Norman on the last weekend before Signing Day.
Dwaine Thomas: We also caught up with Dwaine Thomas who let us know that Kish had come by to see him as well. We were told Kish came by and pulled Thomas’ transcript, however, no offer was extended (Thomas is qualified, by the way). Texas Tech also came by to visit, and Thomas has a visit set up with them for next weekend. Thomas has plans to be in College Station this weekend. Although OU continues to talk to Thomas, it sounds like he may not be willing to wait on the Sooners much longer.
Nate Dalton: Nate Dalton released his Top 6 earlier this week which included: OU, Arkansas, Michigan, Liberty, Army & Kentucky. Nate said he’s planning to visit Arkansas this weekend. He also told us that he plans on taking a trip to Michigan as well, but has not decided on a date just yet. But with only two visit weekends remaining prior to NSD, after this coming weekend there isn’t much time to waste.
We still get the impression in talking to Nate that OU is in good shape, but we’ll get a better idea of where things stand after he visits Fayetteville this weekend. We’ve talked to an Arkansas insider who told us the Razorbacks are willing to wait on Nate and are holding a spot specifically for him.
Defensive Back Numbers: We’ve been trying to figure out just how many more DB’s OU is willing to take and in asking around, we get the impression that as of right now they feel they can take two more safeties and two more cornerbacks. We were also told, however, that this is subject to change as they continue to re-evaluate their board going into NSD.
Their remaining targets are Darreyl Patterson (visiting this weekend), Antoine Stephens (visiting this weekend), Justin Reid (already visited), Nate Dalton (already visited), and Kareem Orr (already visited…will be visiting Arizona State this weekend).
Riley and Gundy: New OU offensive coordinator, Lincoln Riley, was out recruiting for the first time yesterday and was joined by Cale Gundy. We’ve been told they visited a number of guys including, but not limited to: JUCO WR, Dominique Reed, WR Van Jefferson (who said he really liked Riley) and QB target Kyler Murray.
Maea Teuhema: Don’t have a ton of information from the big 2015 offensive lineman, but he did tell us that Oklahoma came by to visit him yesterday. It sounds like Bill Bedenbaugh is going to recruit him right up until the end.
Greg Eisworth: Mike Stoops was also back on the recruiting trail yesterday. He stopped by South Grand Prairie and offered 2016 ATH, Greg Eisworth. And while Eisworth does play some QB for his high school, we’ve been told his OU offer is as a safety.
Stoops also went to see 2017 DB Jeffery Okudah, who, as far as we’re concerned, will be one of the top players in the nation in the 2017 class. Eisworth and Okudah were both told they’d be welcome at OU’s ‘invite only’ Junior Days. Eisworth indicated to us that he’d like to go as long as he can get transportation. Okudah said he’d like to go as well, but wants to make sure that an offer will happen (and it should…he’s unreal).
Changes: Wanted to add quick note about coaching changes. More and more we get the impression that additional changes likely won’t happen until after NSD. We are told that even the DB coaching hire could be delayed until after Signing Day. But we continue to hear that OU wants a ‘big name’ candidate for that spot (which isn’t to say they don’t want the same in a WR coach, but we’ve just heard more talk specific to a new DB coach).
Again, as mentioned yesterday, these changes aren’t cosmetic. They are about one thing and one thing only…getting Oklahoma back to competing for national championships.
Weekend Visitors: We’ll continue working to make sure these are all still a go, but as of right now here is who we’re expecting OU to be hosting this weekend: DE Daishon Neal (Nebraska commit), DB Antoine Stephens, DB Darreyl Patterson, WR Van Jefferson (Georgia commit), JUCO WR Dominique Reed (<–update), K/P Austin Seibert (OU commit), ATH Dalton Wood (OU commit) & S Will Sunderland (OU commit). Obviously, we’ll update the list, as needed, throughout the weekend.

– UPDATE (Fri., 1:32 pm): Antoine Stephens has arrived.
– UPDATE (Fri., 1:36 pm): Daishon Neal also appears to have arrived.
– UPDATE (Fri., 2:31 pm): Just wanted to clear something up real quick. As a grad assistant, normally Coach Viney is not allowed to do any recruiting off campus. However, since OU does not have a full complement of coaches at the moment, there is an exception to that rule allowing Viney to make the visits you’re seeing him make. Just wanted to clarify that him being out on the road is not an indication that he is OU’s new defensive backs coach.
– UPDATE (Fri., 3:37 pm): Some face time with the head man.
Good meeting Coach Stoops @OU_CoachStoops!#BoomerSooner
— DJ (@DaiShonNeal9) January 16, 2015
– UPDATE (Sat., 10:01 am): Less than a week into the job and I’m pretty sure Lincoln Riley has already been more active on Twitter than Josh Heupel ever was. Which isn’t intended to be a shot at Heup, just that a social media presence — however stupid some of you may consider that to be — can play a big role in recruiting, so it’s nice to see a guy that gets that.
Very talented group of young men here with us in Norman this weekend #Boomer
— Lincoln Riley (@LincolnRiley) January 17, 2015
– UPDATE (Sat., 12:22 pm): 2015 LB Louis Brown has decommitted from Texas. Nothing may come of it, but he did have an OU offer before committing to the Horns. And the Sooners are obviously in need of LBs in this 2015 class, so we may see the OU staff reach out.
– UPDATE (Sat., 1:52 pm): Don’t shoot the messenger.
Good visit with coach @OU_CoachKish just now
— Franchize (@Thefranchize__) January 17, 2015
– UPDATE (Sat., 7:44 pm): Most of you are already aware, but for the few who may not be just wanted to quick a post updated. 2015 LB Dwaine Thomas, a guy TFB introduced to many here and elsewhere, is in College Station on a visit and has committed to Texas A&M. Still don’t understand how/why OU never offered, but never the less very happy for this talented young man.
– UPDATE (Sun., 12:12 pm): Sooners pick up a commitment from 2015 CB Antoine Stephens. We’ll have more later today, but just wanted to get up the good news.
– UPDATE (Sun., 5:03 pm): According to this Rivals article ($), the Sooners are no longer in consideration for one of of their top 2016 QB targets. Jarrett Guarantano has a final three of Rutgers, Ohio State & Tennessee. With a new OC/QB coach in Lincoln Riley, we’ll have to wait and see if he re-evaluates things at the QB spot with respect to who OU targets in the 2016 class. For whatever it’s worth, as it stands today their top target holding an offer would likely be Shane Buechele.

Happy Friday!
Thanks for the update!
Thanks for the updates. Now lets go get some players! Hope to see a little BOOM…BOOM..BOOM this weekend!
Looks like Kish is staying. At least he’s hitting the road. I’m thinking that OU just doesn’t feel D Thomas is a top target LB at this point. No offer?
I think the ship (no pun intended) has sailed on OU & Thomas. Doesn’t make any sense to me, but hard to see it any other way right now.
Or maybe we’re not that interested in getting McGinnis or Thomas. Just making Kish work since he’s still getting paid. Ha!
I’m not even sure who’s realistically left on the LB’er board that would keep Thomas from getting an offer..
That’s what I’m asking. I don’t understand it really. Granted OU has what, 12 Lb’s returning on the roster? But DeBerry and no one else? It only makes sense if we think we are getting two others, or they think LB is not a need this cycle.
You are right and that is crazy really. We loose LBs after this year and will be really short. DeBeers will be awesome but the man cannot play 4 positions by himself. Thomas is gone, there is no way we could get him now as far as I am concerned. Too many big schools going after him and we are dragging our feet. I do not understand LB recruiting for the last 3 years. I just do not get it.
<<>>
The only way this makes sense is IF THEY KNOW they are in better shape behind the scenes that it appears to us on the surface. Hard to believe that kid doesn’t have a offer yet and they keep treating him like a back up plan so it is probably hard for him to get to excited about that prospect! Everybody loves to hear “Hey man we really want somebody else but if we don’t get him THEN YOU ARE OUR GUY!!!” Big Freaking Woop!
Oh, & any update on Overton.. Appears OU is moving away from him, feel good about Lampkin & Daniels?
Thanks fellers. Appreciate all the info. Teuhema sounds real familiar. Did he have any family play in the NFL?
Kasatati is his cousin.
I was thinking teuhema in the NFL but I can’t find it. Oh well. Thanks anyway
He has a brother at LSU. Which is where he’s going IMO.
“Huh I was way off….had the s right tho”
I was critical of the FBB’s coaching update post yesterday…and I believe rightfully so. However, this is the type of post that FBB’s excels at producing quality content. Firsthand, non-secret “sources.” Real information. Nice work.
You certainly have every right to be critical should you choose to do so, but I’ve never really understood this criticism some seem to have when people are reporting information from “sources.”
I mean I don’t suspect you need me to tell you they wouldn’t be your “sources” for very long if you revealed who they were. Thus most, if not all, “sources” are going to be “secret” on at least some level. Otherwise you’d simply be directly quoting someone.
Jordan, I believe we can agree that quoting someone with firsthand knowledge is always going to provide better, more credible information than summarizing information from a secret “source” of which information, in whole or in part, proves to be inaccurate…is it not?
Without quibbling over the wording of my post and ignoring the substance, my point was that you guys do a good job of reporting recruiting updates such as the one above. I did not want to just be critical…when you guys produce great content it should also be given recognition…
Yes, if you can get someone one the record, and quote them directly by name, that will obviously be one of, if not the best (and potentially reliable) sources of information.
But if that were the only way people reported news, then there would be very little news reported.
And please don’t take my ‘quibbling’ (or whatever we want to call it) as a lack of appreciation for your recognition of the work we’re trying to do here.
I was simply trying to clarify why, at times, we share/report information we’ve obtained from “sources.” It’s a pretty common practice and I can guarantee you if you’re getting information, OU or otherwise, for virtually any other outlet that exists, at least a part of it is coming from a very similar place.
I for one really appreciate how you guys work to get info and pass it on to us . Obviously , when there isn’t any quotable source ,, then I have to accept whatever is available that you can give me .
When the pickings are slim we take what we can get qualified by the level of credibility .
I’d rather have a little with a low degree of confidence than nothing
in the midst of what could be a stressful transition like we’re witnessing at this time.
I believe the whole FBB team does an outstanding job of connecting with and vetting sources, filtering out the fluff and passing on what’s is available in a responsible , reliable manner ; always letting me know how much confidence I can place in a source with appropriate comments on their expected quality .
You guys have the highest standards of integrity and a manifest desire to serve your readership faithfully and appropriately .
Always reliable .
And in the long run that is well worth it !
Yeah I’ve never understood the other guys line of thinking. You like the info and trust the info….stay. You don’t like the info or trust it…the doors closer than you think. Don’t come here for info and then question the manner in which its provided
Yes, it is definitely clear that you do not understand.
Door is close
easy there sparky. a lot of people come on here with nice things to say but they always come with disclaimers. these guys prove over and over that their info is correct. every time…no. 99% of the time? yep. i’m a big boy. i can think for myself but if someone with sources or “sources” close to the program, who nails it a lot, has something to say, i’m all ears. they bring info when they think its credible enough and has some legs to it. they mention something in passing sometimes where they can say but not exactly or what have you. as i said, i’m not trying to introduce you to the door, i’m just showing you which way it is. this place is FREE and it is the best place you will ever find for sooner info. if you don’t like that….scram
Read above. Maybe you will understand my points better.
It’s okay to question content, even if its FREE, as long as you praise where praise is due. My critical comments have proven to be justified at least in part (may be proven justified in whole)…and I followed it up with due praise today.
i get your questioning comments and its ok and all that, but it just struck me as nitpicky. as i said when a place gets 99% right or whatever, then someone picks on the 1% seems a little off to me. but we’re cool now and i just wanted to make sure you were coming from the right place and not just here to pick nits. moving on…
Yes, no one saw my comments from yesterday. I really like this site. I won’t stop visiting. I understand it’s never going to be 100%, but the info from yesterday was so far-fetched, in my opinion…
Also, this would not have been an issue had Jordan been able to accept a compliment …:)
i’ll have to go take a peek at yesterday then. and yes, when in doubt or hell not even any doubt, it is always jordan’s fault 🙂
I can give you the CLIFF notes.
I really took issue with the suggestion/idea/rumor that Mike Stoops would be moved to position coach, quality control coach or some new position altogether.
My points: 1. career suicide for Mike (a fairly young guy) to be demoted and remain at the school. 2. primary coordinators get fired, retire or resign and take another position…a demotion like FBB’s was alluding to just rarely, if ever (I couldn’t think of an example), happens…especially for former head coaches at another D1 school. I also never even approached the brother angle.
I believe FBBs was fed some misinformation. If it ends up be true, i’ll be the first to come here and eat crow.
oh ok. thanks for saving me the time. will be interesting to see how that shakes out. one way i could see it working that way is that they may not care what their career looks like after OU. meaning, with what happened to their dad, maybe after OU they’re both done. but yeah you would think that even for a brother that might not happen
Yea, another angle that I brought up is that I’m not sure OU would pay a position coach or quality control guy 900K a year. So, for that to be possible, Mike would have to jeopardize his future coaching career and take a pay cut.
…hopefully now you see why I think FBBs should have sat on the info…
yeah i wouldn’t think you’d pay that much for that much of a demotion
much appreciated!
Every news organization uses “unnamed sources”. In politics, they are often done for nefarious reasons ( float an idea to see public reaction, derail a planned activity that the insider doesn’t like, etc.) We have to rely on the judgment of the reporter or editor. Still, more info is better than less info.
If the source burns the reporter, hopefully the reporter won’t use him in the future.
Jordan, one thing I find on this site, you often don’t report something or delay reporting it if not comfortable doing so. That’s your judgment, no problem with it. I don’t agree with the media’s tendency to “beat the other guy to report it” at the risk of being wrong. But I don’t think you should tell us you know something but can’t tell us. That’s not necessary to boost your credibility.
I understand your point. It can be incredibly frustrating to be that guy saying “well I know, but I can’t tell you.” I/we will definitely try to be better about not doing that.
Bottom line: TFB provide us fans with all information regarding OU football. We wouldn’t have this site if they posted everything they heard. Thus, they say things are going on but they won’t report which is good info to have. Some may not think so but to me if you can read between the lines, they are saying a lot. Not everything is black and white. They also have to provide the gray too.
I enjoy any and all info TFB provides, IT’S FREE. Hell, if you criticize a free site, you have some other issues.
Boom, so if it’s free, I’m not allowed to question the content? Any free piece of information is off limits? I know you must be smarter than that…
Again, I have said many times, my post today (although Jordan wanted to make an argument of it) was to praise the recruiting update.
My point, it’s NOT just a recruiting site. I for one want to know some of the rumblings even if they can’t say anything or don’t feel comfortable providing the info.
If you’re mowing the lawn and your wife criticizes how you’re mowing it, I’m sure you like to hear that.
OHHH is that what you meant by…. “Hell, if you criticize a free site, you have some other issues.”
Again, I was critical, and I followed it up with some praise. I think I was fair. Sorry if you think that’s impermissible.
I don’t understand your point. The people with “firsthand knowledge” are the very ones who don’t want to be named. They’re close to the program and provide information only on the condition that their identities are kept secret. If you (the reader) trust the reporter not to be making stuff up and to properly vet his sources (which I do in this case), I don’t know why you would have a problem with the journalist keeping the identity of the source secret. Otherwise, nobody would talk to the journalist and the readers would suffer for it.
Again, I think Jordan wanted to quibble over the wording of my comment. I was critical of a single post from unnamed sources yesterday that has proven to be inaccurate, in part, and I believe will ultimately be proven to be inaccurate in whole. I questioned the information. I realize people on this board do not typically do that here.
I’m not necessarily quibbling over the use of unnamed sources…despite Jordan’s attempt to argue the point. I understand the practice.
I think FBBs fed us some bad info yesterday, but I’m praising them for providing some good info today. That’s my point.
Fair enough. Do you know something that would prove what they posted yesterday was bad info? Just curious.
Kish is on the recruiting trail.
We will have to wait and see if Mike Stoops is moved to new position as position coach, quality control position or something new altogether.
I think you are being unrealistic. It is your choice to believe what you want to believe. If you don’t trust what you are being told that is fine. What that means is you don’t have any confidence in the people who are doing the reporting and that is fine as well.
You are being given information here that is being delivered in an upfront manner. They are telling you upfront that it is from a confidential source. They aren’t reporting it as a fact. It is our choice as to whether we believe it or not.
I read their stuff and process it and take it for what it is. I don’t see the need to be critical of them for posting what they hear from sources they trust. I see nothing wrong or sinister in what they do.
I can’t continue to argue this point. See posts below. Jordan turned this into an argument about unnamed sources, when I was trying to praise FBBs for the content above…after being critical yesterday.
My critical comments have proven to be justified at least in part.
Also, I truly believe that if you question and challenge the content of this site, it will continue to get better….as long as you are willing to praise where praise is due.
Always someone’s else’s fault. Whether Jordan jumped in or not, that’s not the point. We appreciate the free information provided to us.
Maybe Kish is here, maybe he’s not but we won’t know that for awhile. Bob’s call.
If I’m busting my butt for free and have someone criticizing, it’s not going to challenge me to provide better content. Motivation comes from within, not from a poster who feels like he can challenge the site to become better. That’s rich.
1. I was expressing my appreciation for the site’s content today…a point that you have missed completely…again.
2. I do not care what motivates you personally.
3. Scroll down and read the comments from yesterday and consider for yourself whether I was justified in my criticism. Stop arguing points in a vacuum.
4. The argument that b/c it’s free it does not matter what is posted…will not convince me.
Wasn’t Stephens showing a Horns Down hand sign yesterday with JM?
I believe it was Boulware, but yes
Yeah but I think his final threee are OU, baylor, and texas tech so he will end up hating the horns whereever he ends up! LOL!
Don’t all right thinking kind of people? #TexasSucks
Removed Dominique Reed from the visitor list above.
Rescheduled?
Not as of yet.
Actually just saw where he’s visiting the Jan 30th weekend.
I can only share w/ you what K told me and that was he has not rescheduled
why?
Didn’t get a reason, K just told me to take him off the list.
This slow hire has me wondering if we’re waiting on someone (NFL) or are we having trouble filling the spot.
Gotta slow play the hand..
It worries me too. I am hoping it means we are waiting on a couple NFL guys. I have a feeling it could mean we are on our third choice.
Same here Ray. It has me worried too, it’s a good thing my new daughter kept me busy and terrified the last couple of days or i may have lost it.
So does this mean we have a chance with Kyler Murray? Certainly we wouldn’t be at his house the first day after the dead period if we had no shot right?
I wouldn’t read too much into it. They’re not just going to quit on a kid like Murray, especially when they wanted to use the chance to introduce him to Riley. But I don’t think yesterday’s visit can be read into that OU’s chances are any better (or worse) than they were the day before.
Gotcha. It’s not like they have too many uncommitted targets left on offense anyway. As always, I appreciate the response/interaction.
happy to do it
If Viney was on a visit, does that mean he is no longer a GA? I thought someone said that GAs counldnt travel, or was I mistaken?
I believe b/c OU does not currently have a full coaching staff that Viney is allowed to get out on visits.
so in theory OU could be stalling to keep Viney on the road recruiting?
In theory, I suppose. But I think the chances of that actually happening are pretty slim.
yeah me too, I was kidding
Viney is known for being able to connect with these kids but you have to think a big name hire could recruit pretty well himself.
agreed, I like to kid
Somehow I get the feeling that Viney is going to be the new db coach and that I why he is out and about to get his feet wet and use to the traveling.
thanks
I know this won’t be popular but the reason I don like like Monty getting the “CoD” title is I was hoping we could get a NFL 3-4 DB coach and The only way would have been naming him as the DC or at min the “CoD”. I understand doing what you need to do to keep Monty but I am sick of our secondary looking helpless. They need a seasoned guy back there if we are going to continue to run the 3-4.
3-4 DB coach?
Yes, a NFL DB coach that has actually coached DBs in a 3-4 defense.
carnell lake
There’s a name I haven’t heard in a while.
Here we go Steelers, Here we go!!
That is what I want, but hence the problem with naming Monty a CO DC no way a NFL guy comes without that DC or again at min the CO DC title..
Dick Lebeau isnt comin man. 🙂
Lol.. He can’t recruit anyway..
But Greg Jackson would have been perfect…
It’s a head scratcher that they don’t seem more interested in securing another linebacker. At this point they have to land one of these 3 guys: smith, McGinnis, or Houston. I think they cooked on McKee and that’s fine as he’s an even smaller version of striker.
Houston is even more of a long shot than Kyler Murray
That’s my point…they shouldn’t be making guys back up plans if they really aren’t in a good position for the primary guys.
Yea, right now I’d sure like to know what the their thought process is on the LB situation. Seems like there isn’t any pressing urgency to secure another blue chip backer like Deberry.
I get that they don’t need to get guys just to get someone but by now they must know whether they have a shot at Houston or smith. If they think Houston is going to usc then it’s time to find another ilb which Thomas could be that guy, then he’s not taking up McGinnis’ spot and smith still has a spot. Thats me assuming we should sign 4 linebackers. And I know right now they’re looking good to land at least 2 4 stars or better and possibly 3 for 2016. Rashaun smith, kerns and Kelly are all high on OU.
So 8 spots left…4 are going to DBs. 1 to OL. 1 to WR. 1 to DL. 1-2 to LB?
Possibly. I think you could see 2 DL & 0 WR. Still can’t believe they’d only take 1-3 LBs in this class if the plan is to stick w/ the 3-4 scheme.
Think it’s indication they just feel good about what they’ll have on campus next year in guys like Bolton and Tay Evans, added in with Shannon’s return?
Or we are going back to 4-3 and don’t need as many LB or god forbid we are going to the 4-2-5 again.
Maybe, but what’s behind those guys? I mean you have to hope for the best and plan for the worst when it comes to recruiting. You have a couple injuries at LB next year, at least as it stands today, and they could be completely screwed, IMO.
True. And we’ve sure had our fair share of LB injuries over the years.
“we get the impression that as of right now they feel they can take two
more safeties and two more cornerbacks. We were also told, however, that
this is subject to change as they continue to re-evaluate their board
going into NSD.”
So the coaches have almost 0 faith in the guys we have coming up?
It could be a case of we’re not doing hearing about kids in some of those spots that won’t be back next year.
Ahh, excellent point. Though that is a shame. I like all those kids and they have talent. Hoping for a positive outcome on all fronts.
If you cant stop a teams passing game you cant win. This fact becomes even more important in the pass happy Big12. I think the logic here is to take as many DBs as possible and hope that at least 2 or 3 turn out to be the real deal. As bad as last year was OU was just 2 lockdown CBs and a quality safety away from being right in the thick of the NC race.
If we put like…12 DBs on the field as we did in @ WVU in 2012 (I was at that game), teams will just run all over us. We need LBs just as much as we need DBs. I think we have the young talent.
That’s a penalty 🙂
The secondary is such an important position grouping that we need to maintain a lot of depth to make it work if there are any injuries. Plus we have a history of raiding the secondary for LBs.
That’s what I’m afraid of. Sure it’d be nice to have a lot of DB depth but we need LB depth more. I don’t want to turn safeties into backers, it has hurt us more than helped us.
The Overton news out of Jenks still get’s me. He has been committed for so long only to run into academic issues. It’s a bit puzzleing at why he would wait until the last minute.
Yeah. Sucks
I think it’s an ACT/SAT issue.
I think he’s said that he has taken the ACT “several” times and still hasn’t gotten it up to req.
Read yesterday about him going the JUCO route. Is he going to qualify elsewhere possibly? I was and still am really high on him and it sucks if we miss out on him.
Are we going to full court press on Lampkin now?
With Van Jefferson “really liking Riley”, it sounds like we have a legit shot here. Would be a heckuva steal.
Am I the only one worried with the lack of LB and with all of the DB’s OU is getting???
nope keep reading
It fits right into the 3-0-8 Mike has been working towards since Tavon Austin’s big day
We only have 10 lb’s if you count Shannon. If Shannon doesn’t come back we are looking at 9
I hope Bob isn’t waiting on Jon Hoke as a db coach possibility.
Major bummer about Overton’s academic issues. Hope things work out with him and OU…but it looks like OU coaches may have already made their decision:
“The coaches, they told me they didn’t want to lose a scholarship if I wasn’t able to qualify. They just said that they don’t think I’m going to make it, if I would have jumped up a few more points on my ACT.
I feel like I’m better than JUCO. … I kind of don’t really want to go JUCO, which is probably what (Oklahoma) wants me to do.”
http://newsok.com/oklahoma-football-longtime-defensive-tackle-commit-marquise-overton-sooners-might-soon-part-ways/article/5385011?custom_click=rss&utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter
I would like to know how he’s making straight A’s and can’t get to a 17 on the ACT.
Oklahoma public schools are a joke.
Maybe on average but Jenks resembles a small college. They have tons of advanced learning courses and tutors out the wazoo.
Some people suck at tests. Some people excel at them. I hated school. I had terrible grades. I was a punk ass kid. But I thrived at the testing. ACT, SAT, any kind of standardized testing I smoked it. I just didn’t like the”homework”.
My youngest son is quite a bit brighter than his brother when it comes to technical stuff (he works as an engineer at the age of 18). But his brother has always done better on standardized tests. Some kids are just better at tests.
I wonder if its a certain subject thats holding him back.
Oklahoma ranks first in our region and 11th in the US for ACT scores. With that being said, sometimes kids work really hard in school and will do whatever it takes to make a good grade but have trouble with standardized testing. However, all kinds of “coaching” is available for preparation of the ACT. Surely he took advantage of that.
Okay, I’m just gonna cut this off at the pass.
Not the forum to be arguing the merits of the Okla public school system. Let’s just move on.
Thanks, and hopefully you understand.
Party pooper. 🙂
sorry 🙂
He not only poops parties, he also farts confetti…
Some kids have real troubles with testing. I didn’t believe this for a long time until I tried to help some otherwise really bright kids. I still don’t get it, but it’s real.
Sadly humorous actually.
Can someone explain why they send 4 coaches (mostly there best recruiters) to visit a DB thats going to be on campus in 2 days and send Kish alone (who cant recruit crap) to visit a LB that we DESPERATLY NEED??
Maybe, it is his last chance to save his job? I hope that is not the case, but the only thing that comes to mind???
And a highly regarded and ranked LB’er at that.
What makes you feel that the staff feels that we “DESPERATELY NEED??” Thomas? Don’t you think that if the felt that they “DESPERATELY NEEDED” him, that he would have at least an offer from OU? He is obviously a back-up plan sort of guy and they are merely keeping in touch.
I think he was referring to Arthur McGinnis (who Kish visited yesterday as noted above) and not Thomas!
I thought McGinnis had an offer. My bad.
McGinnis does have an offer. Thomas does not.
I’m confused. Above it says Kish visited Thomas. And I think it’s clear that the staff (not just Kish) think Thomas is a fall back at best. Not defending Kish, but if Bob and Monty thought Thomas was a DESPERATE NEED, he’d have been offered by now regardless of Kish’s status.
It looked like BoomerDave thought Curt Gomer was referring to Thomas in his “desperate need” post but I was just saying that he was probable referring to McGinnis as the “desperately needed” LB and this is a quote from above:
Arthur McGinnis: For the first time yesterday we heard Tim Kish’s name on the recruiting trail. Coach Kish was in Louisiana and went by to visited 2015 LB Arthur McGinnis
I think is a guy that should really be pushing for and as Curt was saying we should have the A Team at his house not just Kish by himself!
hey c’mon. A TEAM? he’s A TEAM. haven’t some of you guys crowned kish as murdock? 🙂
My bad then. The only reference I saw to Kish was the one on Thomas. Math was my thing, not the reading comprehension. 8^)
talking about Arthur McGinnis who has an offer and we really need to do what we can to get him
This seems to be a very good question!?!?!?!
Without an offer it doesn’t look like we desperately need him from the coaches perspective..I’m sure Kish isn’t the only one looking at the backer postion…The coaches must know something we don’t….that’s what I’m gonna believe until after signing day and then see how Bolton and Tay Evans have developed this spring
You really think Stoops is stupid and he doesn’t know what he’s doing? Has it ever occurred to you that none of us, including this site, know much of what is really going on? Calm down. Believe it or not, they have reasons for all they do, and they are trying to do it the best way possible regardless of what it looks like to fans.
Kish couldn’t recruit a pack of hungry dogs with a t-bone steak. Proof is in the pudding. We’ve missed on just about every LB we’ve targeted with the exception of DeBerry. If Bolton and Tay Evans couldn’t land playing time this year, WE NEED MORE HELP.
In other OT news: We (OKC) are INCHES away from trading Lamb, Jarrett, and Perk for Brook Lopez. Please please let this happen.
I’ll believe this ONLY when the Brainiacs confirm it! 🙂
hahaha Check out Woj on Twitter. Originally Charlotte was apart of the deal but they fell away. But because Brooklyn is so eager to clear they’re books it looks like they want to move Lopez by this weekend.
Look, I love TFB but they/we ain’t got crap on Woj when it comes to sources 🙂
Are you hearing anymore about this possible trade?
All quiet on the Western Front for now. Really hard to tell what the Nets are thinking. Perhaps this is a negotiating ploy or perhaps they were never serious. Hard to tell. Every source characterized the talks as “serious” though, so I have to believe that.
thanks for the update. I’ve only read stuff on ESPN and couldn’t tell how serious they actually were.
Legitimately best place to go is DailyThunder.com, Royce Young I would say is one Oklahoma’s best young sportswriters. Check out the comments section for the absolute latest.
If that doesn’t work, follow Adrian Wojnarowski on Twitter.
This HAS to happen. Three players that will not be with the team much longer for an All-Star center? Yes please!
Perkins has got to take his body guard services elsewhere.
I like Perk, but when the best move you have is an angry scowl at the ref after dropping a pass out of bounds, its time to move on.
Welp! It didn’t happen. That was some major sports blue balls.
Lets hope it gets resurrected..
find this kinda’ humorous………..kish has been by twice to see thomas and leaves him with essentially, ‘we’ll be in touch’……..
I’d probably use a different word to describe it, but yeah 😉
Yeah its like Office Space antics.
TFB, I know you all don’t like to speculate, which I respect, but is there anything you’ve heard as to why Kish hasn’t had any success with recruiting his position? Do kids just not like him?
Some guys are ‘closers’ and others just aren’t. By all accounts he’s a great guy, kids like him, but whatever reasons he just struggles (or at least has at OU) to actually close them.
That may be somewhat of an oversimplification on my part, but I’m not even entirely sure about that based on what I’ve heard (and not being in the room to hear his “pitch).
In regards to Monty’s tweet: Any thoughts on what the “Co” is short for?
I would assume Waco, but thats just me
You are correct. They’re stopping by to see Haughton.
Thanks fellas.
Does anyone agree with me that there tired of reading that
TCU and Baylor are the clear favorites next year in the big 12? I mean year TCU
offense is loaded again but there losing their leaders on offense in Paul
Dawson and Marcus Mallot. Plus stud players like Chucky Hunter, Kevin White and
Chris Hackett. Baylor is losing the 5th year senior Heisman finalist Quarterback in Bryce Petty an
absolute stud in Antwan Goodley WR and on Defense also losing captains on
Defense in Bryce Hagar and Collin Brence. I’m saying all this because both
teams have show weakness TCU has shown defensive breakdowns again Baylor west
Virginia, you can even so Oklahoma. Wait can’t forget Kansas giving them the
scare of the season. Baylor the same thing TCU, losing the West Virginia and
Oklahoma for the first Quarter. Plus when Bryce Petty when down with Concussion
again west Virginia there Offense went stagnant. I’m not giving Oklahoma any
slack they played horrible this year overall, but if you break the season down
a little its not to bad. TCU game we had the lead in the 4th with just minutes
forced two turnovers and even got he ball to the one yard line to win the game
and just didn’t punch it in. Kansas State Overall played well defense play
great till the Offense went stagnant on like 3 straight 3 and outs. which gave
Kansas state the complete momentum i believe we even has the lead. well anyways
we would have won that one too even Hunnicutt wouldn’t have missed two field
goals which never does besides this year. Baylor game we were up 14 to 3 start
of 2nd quarter when offense went stagnant frustrating defense with 3 and outs
plus tiring defense. Oklahoma State game we were up big when Perine rolled
ankle offense when stagnant looked like didnt know what to do after he went
down. The Punt and penalty should have never mattered. Clemson i have nothing
to say LOL. With that said if we had and a good play caller and a little better
offense we very well could have been 11-1 at the end of the season and went to
much better bowl maybe even had chance at Football Playoffs. Oh yeah Texas game we had absolutely no
offense production til late 3rd quarter and we still won.
Sooners don’t deserve any respect until they earn it.
I don’t think it’s a question of having to earn respect. The point is that TCU and Baylor may be getting too much respect.
As did we last year, apparently.
Based on recent history, who else would be the favorites? Baylor is showing that they can sustain success and TCU is probably the best coached team in the country. They’re clearly the favorites at this point.
Yes, I’m tired of hearing it. Even more tired of seeing it in action. Hopefully, OU will do something about it.
Unfortunately, not what any of us want to hear but it’s a fact at this time. However, the players, coaches, & admin know what they have to do and I’m looking forward to those predictions being wrong.
I only needed to read the first sentence. I don’t like not being mentioned as a frontrunner but I also know OU shouldn’t be after the meltdown this year.
I’m a little tired of hearing it but not for the same reason as most. I get tired of lazy sportscasters automatically thinking what happened this year has anything to do with next year. They very well could be the best but this was being said before the season was even over.
On the flip side of that, at least OU won’t be over-rated next year and we won’t see 9812 (7648 by Pat Forde alone) stories about how OU never lives up to preseason hype.
@ToatsMcgoats, do you double as a huge Michigan fan?
@ToatsMcgoats is a regular poster here at TFB, for those who don’t know, he has the exact same picture for his profile (except his has a cat sitting next to this guy) I found this while reading an article on Harbaugh’s coaching hires. This post could be removed, but I couldn’t help myself in a joking spirit with Toats.
Dang, Toats, what happened to your cat?
Maybe re-upholstered that chaise lounge chair.
We had a disagreement. Long story short, couch.
Well don’t take it to Morgantown
carlos spicywiener? that’s priceless
It would be great to get a picture of the man behind the psuedonym.
it looks like an old picture of mark schlereth or maybe keith hernandez
It’s Keith and the mullet.
There we go.
Also looks a lot like Mark Gastineau
Keith Hernandez, now there’s a forgotten name..
Also fun to see our Michigan counterparts chatting about their excitement.
i don’t wanna see an excited spicywiener…
Now that’s funny…
Even if it was a spicy hot, boiling under the skin type of Brat?
You might wanna get that looked at 🙂
You might wanna bring some mustard. HA!
it is nice when a program is generating a positive ‘buzz’…..
HAHAHAHAHAH
17 years of crippling debt…Gets me every time I read this.
I was laughing more at the pic compared to Toats pic! But yes, that is funny too!!!
Its really amazing.
Wow! That dude is way cooler than me, aside from the Michigan part.
No way bro. You set the gold standard.
You are famous now. I was looking forward to you seeing this. This Michigan fan is pretty funny.
I got a pretty good laugh out of it! I can be funny, but only when I make fun of people. I’m told that’s not “funny”, though…
Can anyone cipher Monty’s tweets? What is Pflu and Co?
Waco and Pflugerville
Pflugerville Texas
What JR said
Daishon Neal. Nice.
go on?
Just positive affirmation to the 12:35pm update. I’ve got nothing to add.
I had to refresh my page to see the update. Hope we get em
Me too. Its Montgomery style talent, which is interesting. How will the D-line dominate under Montgomery’s talent collection and coaching. Looking forward to seeing it.
Could really use some good news this weekend. In the words of Martin Luther King Jr., “I say to you today, my friends, that in spite of the difficulties and frustrations of the moment, I still have a dream.”
I realize this is only football (cough…choke), so before I get torched by someone a little too sensitive, here is the disclaimer: This post is not intended to compare racial and civil rights issues to OU Sooner football. The views of this poster do not necessarily reflect those of the TFB writers, contributors and readers. However, I do believe we all share a common “DREAM”. #ChaseFor8 #ChaseFor9 #ChareFor10….
Update added
The look on PJ Mbanasor’s face “Im tired of recruiting”
Monty’s face just says, “Man, I’m such a gangsta at recruiting.”
Can we start calling him “Tiny Viney”?
Lol I was just about to say ok we have a new coach “tiney” surely he’s got to be a fan of stanvon
Isnt it sometimes the opposite with nicknames referring to size… Like really large men have nickname “tiny” so maybe we call him, “The BIG Viney.” a (The Big Valley” reference)
Hope we are confident in some of our targets. LB’s on scholly – 8 + Shannon 3 others
OLB – Obo, Striker, Bond,
ILB – Alexander, Evans, Shannon
Roster – Tay Evans, Curtis Bolton, Lindley,
Commits – DeBerry
Targets – McGinnis, Houston, Josh Smith, McKee
Target – S/LB Leiato
Back up – Thomas, Fergurson
Whoever comes in they have to learn not to bite on the read option that turns into a pass to a wide open TE!
Some of those TE passes was on the Safety, LBs don’t shuffle 15-20 yds
We’re going to be just fine at LB, only need a couple this year. The RS guys are really good players, especially Bolton.
15 on current roster. Will add Shannon hopefully for this year, but losing 4, 4 Sr, this year and 4,4 Jr., next year. That doesn’t leave a lot of depth. If OU is going to run the 3-4, need to keep those numbers up. With so little movement in LB recruiting, looks like only taking DeBerry and 1 more. The idea of taking 2 more safeties makes me think they are looking at spinning Thomas down and going with a 4-2-5/3-3-5 variation.
Let me know who the 15 are as the roster doesn’t show that.
Alexander, Bolton, Bond JR, Evans, Evans, Favors SR, Franklin SR, Gastulem SR, Grisson SR, Hunter, Lindley JR, Okoronko, Parker, Striker JR, Taylor JR and add ??Shannon JR?? Couple of these guys are also walk-ons and not likely to see the field other than scout team. Just saying, not AS critical this season although would like to see ‘physical’ LBs not dragged 4-5 yds after contact. Next season, though…
Starting in spring, Favors, Franklin, Grissom, Gastulem are gone. Therefore, it gets back to the original numbers.
We have 8 + Shannon and 3 WOs. Coaches have a strategy so I’m going to sit back and see where this goes.
It’s been quiet about Wariboko and Lampkin. What’s the latest there?
wondering the same thing,
Wariboko continues being a drama queen and nows appears to favor Ohio State. No idea about Lampkin, but with Overton seemingly on the frits, we need to get back on Lampkin, if possible.
Moving on. Casady school environment. All about the glitter, the newest glitter.
Your guess is as good as mine on this one 😉
https://twitter.com/OU_CoachViney/status/556168449018187777
My guess would be he’s talking about seeing Mbanasor
One of our recruits have the nickname “the future?”
Noticed that a CB 2016 class Adam Smith favorited the tweet. Maybe reading too much into it, but it was interesting.
update added
Can’t beat a guy that will Update you about the Updates!
He is the real deal.
Any news on how the Kyler Murray visit went?
I’m sure it well, but if you’re looking for anything in the way of specifics…I wouldn’t expect many.
What happened to Dominique Reed? Is he still in the hunt or is does the cancelled visit mean we’ve been eliminated?
Curious if anyone knows, what’s the main even the recruits visit during off-season visits? With no football games to go to, do they watch Mens or Women’s BBall? Thunder?
They will take them to a BBall game if there is one in town and tomorrow the men’s team plays the cowgirls, I’m not sure what time. I think it is a night.
6pm
I’m quite confident those who are there tomorrow will be at least make an appearance at the Bedlam game.
Oh snap, Tomorrows Bedlam!? Thank you, I was unaware.
Man, if the same team walks out there against pokie, I won’t be able to watch. WVU out-manned OU a couple nights ago.
They did. I bet they can find what they need to beat the OK Aggies.
They had a rough night. I didn’t think they expected that out of WV. I bet when we play them at home it will be a lot different. WV is not going to surprise people anymore. That is a typical Huggins team, He likes to press and force the tempo. If you remember his teams at Cincy then you know they tend to play a little rough too.
Yeah, Huggins teams beat the opposition up. I remember his teams at Cincy. I hate seeing my team get knocked around, and out hustled by it though. Especially when you should be expecting it, exactly.
I do remember those teams. Huggins is a physical teaching coach. I dont mind it, just sucks when you lose to it..
I’m guess Stoops’ pool isn’t a big attraction this time of year.
https://twitter.com/Afeeva_14/status/556182490445283329
This dude is efficient with his time…, And that looks GOOOOOD.
Good way to start off a recruiting-vacation weekend.
Well I guess we gotta sell them on KD’s while we can since he will be in Washington in 2016
Zack. No way. Maybe. I hope not.
I guess he will be “franchising” by then..
update added:
Just wanted to beat Jordan at updating his updates. lol
DAMN YOU!!!!!!
😉
https://twitter.com/OU_CoachGundy/status/556189705260130305
Well now, that’s something…
That’s telling
So much for J’s update.
Jordan I am stalking TFB and I can’t keep up. Thanks for all the updates! Appreciate you guys for all that you do!
happy to do it
Hmmm
Welp, bye-bye then.
https://twitter.com/adamgorney/status/556191408970022913
Darn dang dive.
Mike has his work cut out for him…I don’t see him leaving the coast
https://twitter.com/adamgorney/status/556208031873380352
https://twitter.com/jake_trotter/status/556191126668210176
What???
No.
Joe Jon has been known for a little while now, but that’s the first I’d heard of Pool down there. JJF was also on OU’s QC staff for a bit as well at one point.
Brodney had a GREAT NFL career. I would love to see OU give him a shot somewhere.
With Overton having issues, I would love to see Monty put a full-court press on Daylon Mack. He was unblockable in the all-star game I watched.
Mack is the real deal. He’s a force to be reckoned with.
If not OU, I’d rather he go to aTm. Dont want him at TCU
+1
Myles Garrett with Daylon Mack, Oline men can just take it easy.
I disagree. Players want to compete in the “best” conference. Whether that’s perceived or reality. We need the Big 12 to start landing these top 20 recruits. Screw the SEC.
Its perceived to be somewhere else
Exactly. The Big 12 needs to own Texas though.
Yeah I agree, I just dont want OU to have to block the guy. He’s a stud which is what I was saying, not really wanting him to go the SEC
I don’t think its going to be Texas. It was recently reported that he was moving on from Texas. Auburn is in the mix now.
Is there any real shot at getting him to OU?
Negative
Still waiting for a “BOOM” update. Appreciate all the other updates, but BOOM updates are the best. 🙂
I have a feeling there might be 2 this weekend. Stephens and Patterson should be close.
MAYBE A D-LINEMAN AS WELL
Anyone know what Lincoln is up too?
The impossible, I hope.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z3eN9u5N2Q4
hahahaha.
I’m crying over here…..needed that to close out my Friday ….lol
That … is … awesome!
Ok I admit it, my patience is wearing thin. I’m tired of seeing everyone around us making the changes while we talk about rumors of some possible 50/50 changes. Just saw Baylor added Chris Dishman as a Safety coach. I know we’re “talking” about making a big name splash with a big time DB coach but COME ON let’s get to it. I’m not jealous they got Dishman and we didn’t, I’m just tired of us appearing to be behind everyone else in making needed changes. It would be nice to see us out in front of the curve at some point.
R E L A X
Fake Aaron Rodgers?
I feel the frustration. Keep the faith. NSD is near! #BOOMER
Speed does not necessarily equate to quality.
It’s different when a school is replacing a coach that left because he had another job, meaning there’s a positive reminder that “hey this staff is good” as opposed to firing a guy and replacing him. I don’t think firing kish would have a negative impact at all but you’re asking for them to do that while having a replacement lined up.
Yes yes yes…I’ve been ready for a hire for weeks now. Growing more impatient by the minute.
What’s the consensus on Wariboko? The longer he stretches this out, do our chances improve? Or is he probably UCLA or tOSU bound?
Would be a shame to lose an elite in-state recruit at a position of need. Especially since his parents are OU alumni
He’s going to be A Sooner.
OU needs to get him, only getting one of the top 4 players in the state would be a big blow(one is due to ACT score)
I think the longer it plays out the more favorable it is for OU. At this point ucla can only visit so much face to face. With OU he just needs to drive about 45 minutes to campus and hang out like Sunderland.
Gentleman and lady, we’ve got a little girl! My daughter was born at 3:37 yesterday. 6 lbs 15oz. 19″ long, her and her mom are both doing great. A new little Sooner is here. Thanks for all the well wishes and prayers.
Congratulations!!!!!
CONGRATS!
Congrats! Hope you stored up on some sleep!
Haha, it was a 2 day labor. 4 hours if sleep since Tuesday. I don’t plan on sleeping till I go back to work in a week. But thank you.
ha… you won’t sleep till she’s married…! Congrats! girls are the sweetest and most terrifying, lot’s of joy ahead..!
And even after they’re married, they are still ‘your little girl’ and then…there are granddaughters!!!
and the grandparents get to raise the grandchildren cause the mothers have made terrible lifestyle choices and can’t support their babies……..
I think Stephen Dale is saying…congrats….?
I don’t. He only has one response to a bowl of Corn Flakes.
congrats if the parents raise the child to be a productive citizen . all too often, as I said in 2 previous posts, the grand parents wind up having to raise their grandchildren. it is an epidemic in this state…so, not all women make wise lifestyle decisions , and it falls back on the grandparents all too often…go work a few weeks at the DHS ( child welfare div) and get your eyes opened………
Well, Mr. Dale, I’ve seen my share of dysfunctional families. Pitbull is a little rough around the edges, but he’s a quality guy. I have faith that he’ll do as good a job with the second as he has the first.
SMH @ Stephen Dale. Your attempt at social commentary actually sucks…..and no I wasn’t raised by my Grandparents and neither was my wife or our parents. I actually wish my grandparents had been more a part of my life, but they passed when I was really young. Pitbull, I hope your daughter has a wonderful life and you and your wife enjoy parenthood……and her grandparents are a special part of her life.
I love being a father, what’s the point in life if you don’t have the love of a family and pass on your traditions to a younger generation?
Totally agree Pitbull. Greatest thing I have ever done. Enjoy the time with your family, and wishing you all good health and happiness.
do you hire someone to take a dump in your breakfast each morning? or smack you in the face all day? do you live in a cellar? just trying to put 2 and 2 together on why you are not happy with anything. do you like the longhorns? thats it ain’t it? you’re a horn fan on here posing as a sooner. you can’t be a fan of OU and hate life as much as you do
No, these are actually pretty funny. You have to wonder what provokes such pessimistic and contrarian thoughts, which, in your case is a combination of poop and breakfast.
Now that’s funny ‘boomer’ and you might not be that far off on your assessment.
You do realize everything in life doesn’t suck? There are some things that are beautiful and meant to be cherished.
Why hasn’t anyone arranged an intervention for you by now?
I don’t mind that you rag on just about everything OU related. Despite being the local eeyore of TFB, I do believe you’re a fan and try to back up your postings with logic. This is too far though. Don’t rag on someone having a baby though. That really crosses a line.
Stephen, the more and more I think about the more you piss me off. Just do me a favor and don’t reply to any of my post again. My wife and I are good parents who love our kids. I don’t know what happened to you in life that made you like you are but I want nothing to do with it. No matter what subject it is on this site you try to point out the negative, just don’t reply to me any more and we’ll be ok.
I better get a grandson eventually, but I don’t Evan want to think about that right now.
yeh.. and they make terrible relationship decisions with the scummiest douchbags in spite of parents concerns….little wonder mankind is drifting downward because of such hormonal decisions…..
Absolutely! I’ve already got a 9 year old daughter, so I’m starting to get a taste of the terrifying part.
Congrats!
CONGRATS!
Nothing better than that pit…Children are wonderful blessing from God. Glad all is well. God bless!
Awesome!!!
Thank you all so much, the community type feel and the outstanding free info from the brainiac braintrust are what make this site the best damn Sooner site there is!
Huge congrats on the newest member of the ‘Pitbull fam’. Nothing better!!
Congratulations!!
Ccongrats pit!!!
Congrats Pitbull. Make sure to get some pics of her in some OU gear. Glad baby and mom are doing great.
I will, I posted a pic on Twitter. Look under @clsooner17 if you want to see her.
Congrats!
Hell yes. Congrats, Pitt! Enjoy it!
Now there’s a BOOM! I’ve been waiting on. Congrats.
Congratz pitbull !
“Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth with Sooners and subdue it and have dominion over all animals of the earth, including Longwhorns.”
Fantastic news!
Congratulations to you, your bride and the little one.
Congrats man! I’ll be right there in the same boat in just a couple of weeks.
Congrats to you as well then. I hope everybody is healthy and that your wife has a much smoother labor than mine did.
Congrats. You know she’ll just grow up to be a teenager right?
Congrats
Congratulations!!! It IS a Great day Dad!
‘Grats bud. Boomer!
Congrats to you and your wife. What a wonderful blessing.
congrats my man!
Congrats! We discovered almost by accident a by-product of home schooling (at least a few early years) our kids still paid attention when teen agers. Those first six years seem to be the key.
Congrats to your wife and you! Say hi to the young pitbull!
Very exciting. Congrats to you and your family!
Ummmmmmmm….

I haven’t been on in a few days, so did DGB enter the draft by yesterday’s deadline?
Yes he did
Thanks

Nice.
Agree!
That is interesting. I live in CO. Born, raised in OK. Interesting to see a Colorado sooner affirming the beauty of OK. Sunsets on the plains, the trees in Norman, those things are beautiful to me.
I too live in Colorado, born/raised in OK. Sunsets on the plains, and sunsets in the mountains, Beautiful!
Have you ever watched games at a ‘sooner fan club’ type get together where you live? I have not. aTm has quite a club where I am.
I am in Denver, they have a nice Sooner bar/grill here called Stoney’s. Its a very popular hangout on OU gamedays for Sooners. I have only been on a non gameday so far, but I have had friends go and they say the place gets PACKED with Sooner shirts. I will try and go this coming season.
I think ColoradoSooner, above, has been there..
I’m in the Springs. That would be a fun outing though. I’ll remember ‘Stoney’s’.
I have a brother in the Springs (and one in Frisco)!
and yea, its Stoneys Bar and Grill.
I like the Springs man. We have been in Frisco for holiday stuff the last two years. Drove through on our way back from Glenwood Springs a few weeks ago. Treacherous drive in the middle of winter.
Springs is cool! and yea, those roads can get beastly up there. We have been loving Denver! Been here 2 years this March.
Good for you guys. I moved here from OKC in August of 2011.
We moved from Norman in March 2013. Hey! Did you hear Colorado Springs is getting a Taco Bueno this year!! They are starting there, and then looking to expand across Colorado… Taco Bueno, Braums, and Mazzios are the only foods we miss! lol So we are pumped!
Wow. I have eaten thousands of Taco Bueno bean burritos.
It will be surreal to see a Taco Bueno in the shadow of the mountains.
Not to crush your memories but Mazzio’s is broke, and Braums is on a steady decline. You’re probably better off with Good Times.
Yea, Braums has been steadily declining for some time.. Mazzios is broke? they shut down?
They’ve close quite a few locations and I think most are on the way out.
My wife has to go to Braums and Taco Bueno when we visit her family in Lawton. Used to also have to hit Chick – Fil – A, but we finally got some a few years ago here in So Cal.
I really hope to ride the road to Cripple Creek, the view is gorgeous! The winding road is great riding, just make sure the brakes are good for the trip down.
My father in law likes that ride too.
I’ve read on another Sooner message board of the Denver hang out. Sounds like they have a good time in the non-stupid drunk way, if yiu know what I’m getting at.
Lived in CO most my life but really enjoyed my time at OU and OK. Stoney’s is a ton of fun – been there several times for the watch parties. They do a great job. I highly recommend attending.
Good. Yeah, I am already looking forward to stopping through next season.
Norvell to Texas is official.
Well, Texas will be able to block and 1 wr a year will be able to get open.
Man, it got quiet after that last update….I keep refreshing the page just in case there’s some big breaking coaching news, I know it’s probably going to be after NSD but I’m still holding out hope. I hope the recruits are having a great time, would be nice to get a couple of BOOMS soon.
Perhaps you’ll all wanna see Westbrook’s response to Berry Tramel.
Westbrook doesn’t like Berry.
…
…
…
Let’s be honest, nobody really likes Berry.
Speak for yourself. I love Berry. Has the guts to tell the truth. He’s my favorite guy on Sports Animal as well. He kills Traber every time they disagree. Only person on the SA to have the guts to put Traber in his place.
I bet his dog even bites him on a regular basis….. Or digs out of the back yard and makes a break for it
That was AWESOME!
Great find! I’ll have some more of that please!!!
The announcers during the game were even commenting on some crap in the Oklahoman “They look like nothing more than glorified imposters, a group of guys living on reputation and past achievements.” while mentioning that that was brutal from your hometown newspaper. It was a Darnell Mayberry story, and not Berry Tramel. Then the Thunder went on to beat the best team in the NBA right now the very same night as the article.
I’m honestly surprised Mayberry still covers this team but I guess since the Gaylord family doesn’t own the Oklahoman anymore makes it hard for clay Bennett to have him fired.
I haven’t liked mayberry’s stuff for awhile he’s always looking for a problem and I guess trammel does the same.
Got a great solution. Quit reading the Oklahoman. I quit reading the Oklahoman years ago. Purposely won’t pick one up even in an office. When you read them, you give them all they want. The best criticism of a paper or radio show is not to read/listen.
Good call. Vote with your wallet.
So the Gaylord family no longer owns the Jokelahoman? I didn’t know that.
I guess they had no more need for wrapping fish.
I sure am behind the times – living in Houston I had no idea the Gaylord family sold the paper.
That’s a major epochal event for the OKC area.
I’ve long had mixed feelings about OPUBCO products. When I was a kid, I had to settle for a paper route with the Oklahoma Journal. The Oklahoman & Times routes had every house on the block in the 60’s and 70’s, morning and evening. Those were lucrative. The had maybe 100 subscribers across about one-half of The Village. That Journal paper route was grueling, especially in the winter wind chill. At least I learned the meaning of work. Didn’t make much money on a Journal route. Yep, OKC had 3 papers then.
What I miss about the old newspapers is the oil and gas reporting. The OKC papers and the Tulsa World had a daily column on oil and gas well completions. That, and the rest of the business sections seemed to be more factual, more meat and potatoes style news.
Nice history lesson. Thank you red clay. I would have liked OKC, as a kid, if I grew up in that time period.
Al Eschbach was the sports editor for the Journal back then.
I had a similar experience that they would never let you do now. I started throwing an Oklahoma Journal route when I was 10 years old in 1964. They had waived their age rule because they couldn’t get enough carriers. My parents went with me to throw my 38 papers for the first 3 months and then it was just me and Bobo. I got up every morning on my own. Bobo was half Sheperd and half St. Bernard and a 180 pound dog that was incredibly smart.
Yep, I had counted my money before I did the work. Learned better than to continue that. But the hard work didn’t hurt at all! Except for the wind chill. Kudos to your parents!
Thanks for the story about Bobo. I can picture that magnificent beast. My beagle Barry would have simply bolted for who knows where. He was not obedient.
I totally agree with the work ethic statement for our youth. The town I teach in in CA is smack dab in the middle of farm country and many of our kids start picking at age twelve-thirteen. Big difference between them and some of the softies that make up their peer population. I started mowing yards in my Norman neighborhood age 11 and my first job at Girly’s Pancake House on Lindsey street at age 13 washing dishes and bussing tables. I helped a friend with his paper route, the Norman Transcript, when he had broken his arm. Did that for about seven weeks in late winter early spring……. I think that is one reason I abhor cold weather now! Respect for those who did that!
Video evidence.

Tramel is a glass-empty kind of a guy, not even half empty. The world is always on the verge of, or in, an apocalypse. If he were a Pooh character, he’d be Eeyore. https://www.google.com/search?biw=1024&bih=276&q=winnie+the+pooh+eeyore+costume&bav=on.2,or.r_cp.&bvm=bv.83829542,d.eXY&sugexp=ehm_qwpr&gs_rn=61&gs_ri=tablet-gws-psy&tok=Hplgn5Gyrisy-4nPA3uS3g&pq=winnie+the+pooh+eeyore+costume&cp=29&gs_id=22&xhr=t&um=1&ie=UTF-8&hl=en&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&ei=YZe6VJOSNci-ggSdpICABQ#imgrc=_9dY-5YCT-x_wM%253A%3BPXroppHSy-CO7M%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fimg2.wikia.nocookie.net%252F__cb20120711182505%252Fdisney%252Fimages%252Fa%252Fa0%252FWinnie2011-disneyscreencaps.com-1702.jpg%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fdisney.wikia.com%252Fwiki%252FEeyore%3B624%3B352
Good little article on DNeal that I came across. He grew up in TX, lived with his mother in Houston until last year when he moved to Omaha. He would be much closer to Mom in Norman. Had wondered about OU getting a kid out of Omaha.
http://nebraska.247sports.com/Article/Defensive-end-Daishon-Neal-committed-to-Nebraska-on-Wednesday-187684
I don’t know about you guys but I’m just about ready for a BOOM update!
BOOMSOON?
Looks like OU just hired Tyler Tettleton as a offensive grad assistant or was he already there and I just didn’t know it?
He was already there.
I’m confused………………Josh Heupel was being hammered for lack of QB development, and I was completely on board with that criticism, yet we have had a guy working with the players full time??
He may have got a bump to grad asst. from volunteer, but he’s been w/ OU for a little while now.

Affirmative update 10:01am, big affirmative.
JH slacked on the twittersphere. No need to hide the dig.
On another note, I would think LR is in culture shock looking at the kids that we have coming in . Not meant to slight ECU by any means
Eh. Not all coaches are active on twitter, and some of those that are, somewhat, aren’t even posting their own stuff. JH never struggled to bring in highly ranked QB’s. Every QB he brought in, OU fans were excited about. No reason to bash his recruiting. It was his development that was becoming a problem.
I agree, but might say it wasn’t he couldn’t develop them, he wasn’t good at playcalling, IMO. I think they did fine when someone else was calling plays. But, like I said in the past, BS may have played a little bit of a role in that by telling him he wanted to run more of a Ala O, which I think is a mistake, personally. Mack Brown went down when he wanted to be more power, and OU did too. But, also, I think there was a lack of originality of playcalling. didn’t move WRs around, put in motion enough for me.
It seems like coaches that change offensive identity either do it to suit the talents of the players they have on their roster, or because out of a reaction to being beat down by a team with a different offensive identity. I dunno that BS wanted to run an Alabama O vs. a TA&M O, but I think the Air Raid he had Leach install in 99 was because he had trouble defending it, then wanted a more balanced pro offense (probably partially because AD was in town) and then wanted mobile QBs because all of his D’s got torched by mobile QBs. Hopefully LR will set down a fundamental identity for this coming year’s offense that can be installed in the spring that has enough flexibility to allow for creativity during the fall.
Theres recruiting and development but then theres a third and perhaps most important aspect and thats evaluation. You can recruit a 5 star kid and develop him to the hilt of his abilities but unless you evaluate those abilities correctly its can still be an epic failure. That seems to be our current problem right now. I hope Im wrong but between all the 4* QBs on the team right now Im just not seeing ( so far ) that any of them actually have 4* talent. My hope is that it IS a developmental problem that Riley can fix and not an evaluation problem.
I get that, but we aren’t talking about one kid. We also aren’t talking about just one kid or a group of kids that have been only been evaluated by OU. Several recruiting sites had those guys ranked high. Several other good schools offered those guys scholarships.
If it were one or two kids that weren’t panning out, I might agree. But it’s not. It’s a group of 3-5 QB’s in recent years. At least one or two of those guys should be better than what we’ve seen.
And I have very, very little doubt we’ll see better QB play next year.
Some coaches use mostly use the DM function more than the open post. Just because you can’t see it in your time line doesn’t mean they don’t use it.
What’s this Twitter stuff all about…….you mean he carries a bird with him on visits ?
anymore transfer news? You would think a few more would be looking (i.e. CB,WR)…
Good question… I second this one. Would think it would be clear based on who is or is not enrolled. The semester has started, right?
I don’t know about the time lines for making decisions, but you might think that everyone is waiting on coaching hires, go thru spring practice, see where you stand and go from there……..we do seem to be collecting dbs so I would think some would eventually take off
That would make sense. But if a OU player has plans to transfer he needs to have a scholly saved for him and get into spring practice for his new team if he hopes to have a good shot at playing in 2014. I would think that move must come before NSD and the start of the spring semester of his new school.
again, don’t know the time lines, but you may be right………mcnamara had to turn in transfer requests or something along that line
Yep. I think one of the WRs who is going to San Antonio just made it known sooner in the fall so he could meet deadlines for his new school.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_rEOnDmPslM
Very good.
I’ve always thought Stoops should use Ross the way Switzer used Rhymes
riley hasn’t been around rb talent like he now has……..hope he finds ways to use it…..
I was thinking the same thing…hopefully he is a creative mastermind because he has some great talent to work with in the RB corp
I think he will. A fresh perspective applied top the RB play is a good thing. Seems like OU tried to use guys the same way they always have instead of to their skill set. I just hope Ford doesn’t stay on the shelf. Would love to see the triangle (or diamond formation as some call it) explored to its fullest potential. All those RBs have the size to put a linebacker on his butt.
Yes run the triangle. Can you imagine Perine, Ford, and Ross all on the field at the same time.
Yep…I could see Ross taking those wide pitches to the house.
1) I miss the big 8…….2) one of the prettiest plays in the wbone was the reverse……..
Is Buster Rhymes 4 THAT Buster Rhymes?
So Louis brown de-committed from texsa I wonder if them loading up on linebackers is finally affecting them. Hopefully Monty makes a run at him
who dat…….
I think he’s listed as an athlete but most were recruiting him as an olb
oh yeah, he was that ‘raw talent’ d player with big upside from somewhere in tx…….247 shows that mont/kish gave it a shot
They should try again. He may be able to play inside also
hey, zack…….coaching changes and a few days til nsd………you gonna’ make it thru…….lol
I don’t know man it’s like a roller coaster to the finish but when it’s done, it’s done and then I gotta start following 2016 recruits.
Dat motor though…
He would be a rare talent inside with his height (6’6)…just saying…We have Neal (DE) in town this week…hopefully we get him to flip from neb
ESPN 300 DE
Looks like he follows Montgomery on twitter, not sure if that was recent or not
He decommitted while on his official visit.. Must’ve been mutual.. Weird…
While visiting Texass? If that is the case then WOW! To the best of my memory, Ive never heard of that happening!
Yes, he was on his OV at UT…
Grades?
He said on Twitter last week that he was qualified..
Would think that de-commit came as a result of someone being in his ear. Come on to OU big boy!
Update added
Dat motor though
You want a piece of this, Bob?
I don’t want a piece. I want the whole THING!
It seems texass is having some issues also. How odd is it that OU and texass’ recruiting has been somewhat unconventional and strange to put it best. It is a very good class for us but they way it has played out it is confusing on how many players at certain positions we are trying to recruit. (Ex.; we need lb’s but we are going after more cb’s/safety’s). It has been one of the strangest that I can remember.
Well I think OU is stuck in a position of needing linebackers but they want elite guys at this point and they don’t want to screw up their numbers going into the 2016 cycle because theyre high on lists of 3 really good prospects. And then they don’t feel they’ve hit home runs in the past with safeties and corners which I think both stoops believe that’s their specialty in developing.
As far as texsa I have no clue about their recruiting but I think strong is a guy who can turn them around its just a matter of IF he can do it soon enough
Also seems clear what Strong thinks the strength of his team needs to be and its not surprising given he is a DC. He thinks a strong defense takes up the slack for a weak offense and its doesn’t work the other way around. I still think texass will have offensive issues as the line they bring back was not good and it wasn’t due to lack of experience (non-athletic as hell) and the QB position has no depth and may be breaking in a freshman this season.
……like many, ut is a gunslinger qb away from being pretty good/very good, and strong will find one if he hasn’t already
It’s a good point. I guess more than anything is that this is the most unusual recruiting season I can remember. We think one way and the coaches go a different way.
With all the safety recruits I wonder if Ahmed Thomas is switching to linebacker or more the Roy position.
Had that se thought
Just because of size I would assume Hatari Byrd would move to LB more than Ahmad Thomas.
Thomas is bigger than Byrd- 210 to 200
You are correct sir. I couldn’t believe it when I say it. Byrd just looks huge to me I guess.
He is a big ‘un. Probably 195 and 2% body fat.
I remember Louis Brown was high on Baylor and Okie State before committing to Texas. Send Bob, Monty, and Mike and let him know how desperately we need solid LB recruits!
Also…LOL that he de-committed while in Austin on an official visit.
Sign the man.
He was committed to Baylor before UT.. Coach Monty is already on it, Immediately started following him on Twitter..!
https://twitter.com/kp_projectt/status/556527287899021312
I love the confidence as long as they work really hard toward it!
Where we at w/ McGinnis? He’s on a trip to Arizona this weekend. Is he coming to OU the 30th?
That’s the plan right now, yes
Whoops. I guess I should have re-read this post before I asked. Guess I forgot you wrote about him above.
has he visited OU before?
update added
lol people will think Kish is gonna screw this up!
..’good visit’………not a great visit?!………just kidding…..
Kish may have just been updating on his leaving and to solidify the relationship to the school, not to the coach
Kish may be leaving, but I guarantee he didn’t go visit DeBerry, alone, and tell him he was leaving. That would be a terrible way to handle that.
Great things happening in Sooner Nation.
BOOMER ! !
Get this Brown kid TODAY! anytime you have a guy that plays every position on the field in HS means football player/play maker. I like it!
Rumor in twitter verse is he may have academic worries.
First rumor out of people’s mouths. Every time. Maybe he just realized Texas sucks.
Just read on the texas 247 site that the mom doesn’t want him around a relative in the area that’s a bad influence. So take it for what’s worth.
It concerns me that he played at the lowest Conference level in Texas, 2A Div 2, that is one step up from 6 man football.
His offer list indicates that many don’t see that as a problem, though.
Is Bob Barker the only one not impressed with his film?
This Tweet makes it look like Louis Brown wants to head to Norman.

Apologies in advance as I won’t be around a computer to provide any updates on the Lincoln Riley introductory presser.
I’ll be really surprised if SSTV doesn’t stream it, so if you want to watch it I’d be sure to check there first.
If anything of significance is said, I’ll be sure to post an update later tonight.
Hopefully me being out will also help OU pick up a commitment! That kind of stuff tends to happen for me when I’m somewhere and can’t report on it.
Get outta here then…..that’s all I’m sayin’. 🙂
When is this presser?
4 o clock.. but have no idea of where to watch
soonersports.tv might have it
i don’t see it. So i don’t know whats up. oh well
Here’s the transcript (from the future):
Riley: “I’m very excited to be the new OC at the University of Oklahoma, I have always had tremendous respect for the program and for Coach Stoops. I’m excited to work with a great group of coaches and players.
I think the fans will be excited by the offense we are going to run. I can’t wait to get started this spring. We have a lot of talented players here at Oklahoma, it’s gonna be fun to spread the ball around.
I just have to thank Coach Stoops again for having the confidence in me, as well as the other coaches who have helped me get here today, Coach Leach and Coach McNeill, I wouldn’t be here without them. Coming from Muleshoe, TX this is a dream come true for me. God bless America. Amen”
I like all he said, especially the last line: God Bless America. It has its faults but you don’t see people jumping the border to get into Russia, or Iran, or Saudi Arabia.
John I knew your brother James very well. We spent some time together in Hollywood back in the 50’s.
RIP in Peace to my good pal and Sooner, Jimmy Garner.
Thanx, but he wasn’t my brother though we might be related. Just not sure how. But I know what you mean. He was Sooner born, and Sooner bred.
I’m not really Bob Barker either. And if you were at OU in ’04, I know you in real life!
LOL! I was at OU in ’68. Marines in ’69. Between the two I discovered beer.
Congrats Pitbull!
Is Blake Bell in the nflpa game?
Never mind I figured it out.
Watching the Shrine game on nfl network. 3 OU helmets in the West O lineup: Shead, Rip and Bell. They are flexing Rip out and sending him downfield.
So Dwaine Thomas committed to A&M?
yup, he gone……….glad kish visited to say hello
back up plan
Anyone watching the Shrine game? They got Rip playing Wideout and some H back…Bell TE and Shead LG.
Yep, early in the 2nd quarter.
Dwaine Thomas to A&M
This one is frustrating. I hope the coaches know something we don’t
Well one thing to watch is to see if this leads McGinnis to pick OU. Most thought it was 50/50 OU vs a&m so as much as most of us liked Thomas’s film, I think McGinnis is the better player and definitely more ready to play early. Now if a&m lands both then f@#$
Ditto on the f@#$.
I really, really like McG.
/really
Yep but they are gambling with high school kids. So I hope it pays off. If they have to scramble the next 2 weeks or so then we’re in trouble.
Chavis really liked Thomas and wanted him. Interestingly, McGinnis had no offer from LSU/Chavis so maybe Chavis is not that interested. I’ll take a heaping helping of Hulk every damned day on OUr defense.
Just to play Devils advocate…the only thing his defenses weren’t really known for was linebackers. He had great corners and safeties. Some good linemen but I can’t think of many linebackers he put in the nfl. I could be wrong though
anyone know where I can watch the OU presser online? or if it’s already done?
I don’t see it anywhere.
OU Football twitter feed has quotes from his presser.
https://twitter.com/OU_Football
Thanks Tex.
Welcome.
anyone else having buffer problems with the vid
Good one!
That’s awesome.
Full quote: “Fun to walk into these high schools with these two letters (OU) on your chest, knowing you have a shot with anybody.” – Riley
Much better than the caption.
I just hope he doesn’t start thinking those “letters” are going to do all the work for him as some coaches have appeared to do at times.
I’m sure he knows the letters will get him in the door and what he does after that is up to him.
He seems like the type that will take full advantage of this opportunity, can’t wait to see who he gets in on next year after he’s had time to make a plan.
Judging by the tweets, there’s little doubt who’s in charge of the offense now. I am very optimistic going into next year.
Early returns are in. Riley is an aggressive, take charge guy.
Just saw a tweet that he was right back to work after the presser. Have a feeling we’re going to see a huge improvement on the offensive side of the ball.
Get the feeling that when he packed to head to Norman he didn’t bring his golf clubs.
Hope he is like former UH HC John Jenkins of late 80’s early 90’s run and shoot fame, when asked about how hard he worked.
“I have never played an inning of golf in my life.”
I call it “Pasture Pool”
I play skeet golf. I hide in the bushes and shoot any hooks or slices.
Can hardly wait. I really believe that after Riley digests everything in the off-season and spring, he will put an offense on the field that will attack teams. Also believe he will fully involve Gundy and Bedenbaugh in maximizing the run game.
I think he realizes he has a great thing and will take advantage of it to the fullest. He knows there is a lot of pressure on Bob to right the ship with this team and he will do his best.
No I think he means that now he gets to talk to the four and five start guys rather than hoping he can steal a couple of three star guys from the big boys. From looking at there recruiting, last year they had about as many three star guys as we did. Problem was those were their top players, they were our bottom players.
What is the boards reaction to this quote : Stoops: We’ve slowly drifted away from the Hal Mumme/Mike Leach offense, and I wanted us to get back to it.
Face value, got to score points in the Big 12 if you want to win.
True dat. It is what it is. QB driven. I’ve got no problem with a pass first offense, not my personal preference, as long as it puts up points. The 1 caveat for me is, like Baylor, the oline brings some mass and can punch the ball between the tackles, too. Think this offense will ‘open the box’ and create good run opportunities.
There is an arms race in the Big 12. BU, TCU, OSU, WVU and TT are all going to try and score lots of point and no defense will ever shut them down consistently. Got to put up points and I feel the same way, pass to set up the run or run to set up the pass, I don’t care which. Just keep matriculating the ball down the field and score points.
Hank Stram lives!
Not a bad analogy. Always liked watching Hank and the Chiefs were a fav in the old AFL. It, too, wasn’t ‘real football’ but look what happened. It captured the fans, had to be assimilated and changed football.
Purely accidental. Was talking about Tex “Just keep matriculating the ball down the field” Stram quote.
I liked that ol’boy.
Otis Taylor, nuff said.
I think one of the things that has happened also is that a lot of athletes have moved to offense and not to the defense. For the longest it was always the best athletes were on defense. Now it is the other way around. If OU can get back to putting the best athletes on defense then you will be able to beat these teams.
I agree to an extent, but not entirely.
The offense has the advantage, they know what they are going to do…the defense has to react.
I can’t remember how many times I have heard people say there is someone open on every pass play, and I believe they are/were right.
I know the offense has the advantage but also, if the defense can make the offense predictable then the defense has the advantage. They can dictate to the offense what to do from that point.
The defense making the offense predictable is a big IF when the offense is balanced.
The days of running on first and second down, then passing on third pretty much ended with Woody Hayes.
My reaction is – Riley will run his own version.
I know there’s still some who are skeptical of whether he will run the ball but let’s be honest…the guy leaving this year is probably more talented than any running back he’s ever had.
Dave? Is so, you’re probably right.
Where did this quote come from? Whole transcript somewhere?
Jason Kersey, but this might be the actual quote
mobile.twitter.com/ou_football
“I had a goal in mind to get back to running the (Leach) type system.” – @OU_CoachStoops on @LincolnRiley
5:00pm – 17 Jan 15
Being able to throw should open the run game up.
Running should have opened up the passing game.
Well the QB coach isn’t there anymore…we’ll see if this one develops some better QB’s
“Hopefully” it was a lack of development, and not a lack of talent.
I’m willing to be optimistic we’ll find someone who can get the ball around. More excited to what this big Oline is going to do when they can’t stack the box anymore.
How’s your papa doing?
He’s doing well had another small surgery yesterday, he’s been progressing in baby steps but at least we’re progressing.
Because its Bob, and not any among us, I like the quote.
And, it removes the contention: Huepel ran a Leach sourced scheme, according to the professional, maybe not to the commentators.
Boom!
Well I’ll interpret what stoops says as this.”Well with me and my brother coaching the defense, we will not be winning any titles anytime soon unless we can outscore people. There won’t be any 13-2 games and were victorious ever again. In that sense he is totally correct. Yet if this is the offense of the future one would think all the pro teams and the Michigans, Usc, Bama, ohio st would be running it..Hmm?
You do realize there were 62 points scored in the NC game, right? And 79 and 77 points scored in the two semi-final games, right?
Gotta be able to score points this day and age. And I don’t think there has to be such a big difference in what some call the Leach system, and whatever terms you want to use to describe what Oregon, Ohio State, and whoever else are running.
what is the average point total of any nat’l title game played under the “Leach System”? I know the answer…do you?
It must be tricky. This is a trick question. Hm?
Not tricky at all..youtube any of our title games versus Fsu, Lsu, Usc, Florida,..*WARNING*…You’ll not like what you see….
I’ll just admit it now: I didn’t like what I saw.
I’m just skeptical that were only doing this in a desperate attempt to get back at the chance of beating the Baylor and Tcu’s again..? That might please some fans and Alumni but most we’ll tire of team losing title games if were fortunate to be in one again and we’ll be right back where we started….
Realistic concern. I stick to this being a make it or break it decision by Stoops. I’m hoping for an ascent, a new and unpredictable rise to prominence. If it doesn’t happen, then we will have to wait for a better, future, era.
That has been an issue for years in many conferences. To play for a natty you first have to win your conference, so you build your team to win the conference.
More and more, including this years Buckys, are employing a spread offense and throwing on 1st downs.
Trust me, Urban Meyer is a single wing innovator who has been running that same offense since he’s been in coaching who just uses spread concepts. I played ball, been in major college film rooms etc. What we run is nothing like the spreads that Ohio St. Oregon, Michigan or Bama run. ..https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BR8IhMMhe8w
What do we run now?
Gonna have to wait for the spring game to find out.
Might not know then. Bob doesn’t like to show much in the Spring Game.
True.
I don’t care what type of offense, as long as it moves the chains, scores points and burns clock.
If you consider what OU ran in 2004 and 2008 (especially 2008) to be “Leach’s System”, we have nothing more to talk about. We’ve slowly gotten away from a true Leach system every year since he left.
Whose fault is that? Your coaches etc. are paid handsomely so we agree coaches inept preparedness is to be blamed..I thought that is what you meant.
I don’t think even you know what you are arguing at this point. Wasn’t it that the Leach system can’t win? I’d argue that if you are using 2004 and 2008 as examples of that, you are wrong.
That’s with Oregon having 2 WRs out and their TE, getting uncharacterisically stopped on 1 yd line, etc., too. I think it definitely gutted Oregon’s O.
Vague. However, I can say that if everybody is not doing it, then it follows that it does not work, is a falsehood.
another pessimist found his way here….yippee
Michigan Ohio state and bama all have tried to go to a spread type of offense. Michigan hired rich rod so they could go spread. Ohio state hired Meyer who runs a unique spread. Bama while they didn’t go all out on the spread offense they did try to go to more of a pass first/pass heavy offense this year with kiffin. The spread really took over in Texas high schools because the big 12 was the first conference to run spread offenses like crazy. The fact is all these “great” defensive schools would get exposed if they had to face spread offenses 12 of 13 weeks so it’s a myth to think there are still great defenses in college
Good post and agree with most of it, but must quibble about the Texas high schools following the Big 12’s lead.
Some Texas high schools were using spread offenses in the late 80’s and with the high flying UH offenses even more followed. Texas 7-on-7 took off in the 90’s and the year Andrew Luck was a soph at Stanford, 67% of the starting QBs in that year’s bowl games played their high school ball in Texas.
My old high school won the 1990 state championship in what was then called 5A Big School for that year only. They ran a spread with an offensive line that didn’t average 200 lbs, a 155lb QB, a 5’7″ 165lb RB and two WRs that didn’t weigh 150, but one was a 4.2 and the other a 4.3. They beat people with technique and speed.
Wrong as usual Zach….Look at coach Meyers offense thru the years…He’s always been a single wing/ with multiple formations lots of misdirections, jet sweeps, QB runs, high percentage passes etc..I’ve been in film rooms, studied them and broken them down….We got our butts beat by a single wing offense that had some athletes who out-performed ours and coaches who out-coached ours….Keep making excuses thats what OU is starting to get known for….
His offense is more complicated that just a single wing option offense and you know that or should if you’ve studied it. Just because he doesn’t throw it 60/40 or even more doesn’t mean it’s not a spread offense. He uses the whole field and makes you defend the entire field no? To think spread means air raid is a complete misconception.
That is true…I just looked at part of your first response….Look I have no problem with Riley running the show, but you better have a plan versus teams who will take the basic premise of the spread away. KU’s of the world won’t but there are other teams in the nation that will not allow those same spread principles to impact the game. Great coaches take away something that U do best, if there great at all…
PUP. Put up points baby! Go Lincoln!
Any way we could get a Bedlam BBall thread goin?
You started it. Pre game.
lol, would be cool if we could get a separate thread though, so it doesnt drown this one out..
We can turn a new leaf on this thread, I’d like to think.
too many dang whistles in this game!
I’m still watching though, better than what I can say about the WVU game. Spangler is looking well.
Great start point wise.
Looking smoother now! Nice run
Guess John Chavis & TAMU saw more upside in Dwaine Thomas than OU did. Bummer.
Brown is a grade risk not coming to OU
Link? Or just a rumor?
Rumor
Which Brown?
Louis, the DE/LB that dropped Texsa.
Yeah, Vanderbilt always offers grade risks.
/s
Brown is now going to vandy, interesting
If you had the capability to check you would know who has offered him, dingus.
Full video of Riley presser. http://www.soonersports.com/mediaPortal/player.dbml?id=3670364&db_oem_id=31000
WELL DONE. Thanks.
Great interview! I am really impressed with him. One of the differences between him and Josh that I see is that he understands the system and he knows the ins and outs. Josh will be good I think but, he needs to go to a place where he can learn.
One of the interesting things LR pointing out was how he has made mistakes and learnt from them.
I am pretty sure JH made some mistakes (you guys think, many, I guess) but at a place like OU where competition is stiff every week and everyone is looking to beat you to make a name – these mistakes have cost us games.
Also, LR points out about the pre-processing ie putting together a plan, organizing the details, figuring out the attack etc that goes on with being an OC – not just play-calling – JH struggled with this, I assume. The QBs needed to be developed – whilst doing all these – and it took a toll on him and our QBs – on Saturdays.
LR appears to be a very very sharp man. Hopefully the experiences of putting together plans and successfully running the schemes will be a huge positive when it comes to it.
Wishing him well!! BOOMER!
Just saw hall of famer Darrell Green coaching DB’s at nflpa bowl. The announcers were talking about how the players loved him this week. How about him as a DB coach candidate?
He’s still my favorite CB ever (and I’m a huge Cowboys fan). Would LOVE for OU to hire him
They said at age 50, he could still run a 4.43 in the 40. Wow!
Can he coach each player to run 4.2’s like he did, please? Thx
My phone won’t let me watch the presser for some reason.
Might not be a mobile ready page.
Reboot?
no news is…
Boring
My mistake, I found something better…..https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=58FVeYjHpM8
Time will tell Blood, time will tell Red.
using obama to back up your argument is not the way to prove your point. but that’s a whole different argument for a whole different site
Excellent deflection!
Point is what?
Well, he was talking about “offense.”
Sure thing. Riley’s offense isn’t an identical copy of the Air raid. Same or similar passing concepts, that a lot of teams use, but perhaps different running game. For example, zone blocking vs. “man ball.”
We have yet to see what Lincoln will do with OU’s players. I like the Air raid passing game, just not the running game (the “pure” Air raid, that is). Lincoln needs to run the ball. Bash some dudes in the nose with counters, traps, whams, and such.
I agree. But I was just playing with the word “offense.”
Thomas to aTm, as usual OU is too late
another brutal post, as usual jeff is right on time
Just think, with Thomas it’s guaranteed we win natty
So skippy, you are happy with Kish and the LB’S OU have gotten so far
no sparky, but i don’t wanna set my watch to your tired posts either. you and stephen dale need to start a poker night or something and get some frustration out instead of sharing with the class
Spanky, maybe you can coach the LB’S!
c’mon, slappy, surely you would be tremendous. you got your finger on the pulse of everything. you seem to know all. maybe if you wrote a book, we could all give it a looksee and just bask in the ambiance of your greatness
Ok….let’s break it up ladies!
sorry
Damn, I always miss the bitch fights. 🙂
whoa whoa whoa. what’s with the bitch calls. some clown who has nothing but negative stuff to say deserves to be called out for it. it was squashed even before the ref showed up
Just jacking around bud, don’t take it personal. We’re all good. 🙂
sorry dude. it doesn’t show my smiles sometimes. i don’t understand why it does that. rereading it without smiley sounds ferocious. so….. 🙂 🙂
was Thomas offered
If you’re at a grocery store and someone buys something you don’t do you get upset?
I really like Lincoln Riley’s confidence; that will pay huge dividends on and off the field.
lil bro’s taking this one on the chin right now
yea Good Guys playin some ball right now! Beautiful!
man, buddy gets hot its over for most teams
Watching Barrett-Jackson and flipping back and forth.
It’s on Discovery until 7 and then it moves to Velocity.
i usually can’t switch cause we’re too much like an nba team. a 20 pt lead for us is like 6 for most others
Imagine if we could hit our free throws
i thought we were good at free throws last yr. too lazy to look it up. but yeah we gotta hit those. we should be up late in most games and need that to be better to not have to worry
Packed house too. Looking good there for the recruiting weekend, if they are there.
Packed house is relatively rare. Good, however.
Indeed.
Boomersooner, that bus you liked is now on the auction block.
Mad stacks of Benjamins tonight.
that things awesome
All the millions that thing brings goes to our troops.
even awesomer
Good stuff!
was it wounded warrior or something different? 3 and a quarter mill will work wherever it goes but was wondering which charity
It was the Armed Forces Foundation.
A buddy of mine that retired after 25 years in EOD told me they did a FOIA request on Wounded Warrior and found only a very small percentage of the money actually went to the wounded warriors. Admin costs and bloated salaries took most of it. Very disappointed to hear that.
wow. hadn’t heard that. that’s very disappointing. will have to avoid them and any companies who work with them in the future…or at least research companies who work with them to see how shady they are
Not prepared to call them shady. Badly managed, incompetent, may be accurate.
Unfortunately that’s true with most charities. Some get as little as 2%
It’s certainly true of many.
Have heard that recently from others. I’ve been a steady supporter of WWP since inception but am rethinking my support. Any other worthy orgs? Armed Forces Foundation? Will have to research that.
There are some that are very specific to branches of service and LE that do a great job of getting most of their funds to the vets, their spouses and children.
The Armed Forces Foundation is a good organization that is a ‘blanket’ type charity, donating to all the branches of service.
and jeff gordon still looks 12
Louis Brown visiting Okie State soon
Gross.
spangler just punked lil bro. i’m very proud
Spangler and Hield just made the sc top 10 with those dunks!
Brainiacs I am sure you can’t answer this BUT you mentioned a few weeks ago there was a possible commit coming that would surprise all of us. Anymore news on this?
Anybody else think our Offense can be close to 08 level with decent qb play…can’t wait to see Mixon in this offense and MeierAndrews…not to forget Shep Quick and another wildcard or two at wr
I’m cautiously optimistic. I think our offense could’ve been elite the past two season with even half-decent QB play. Posted something like that on the Norvell thread. Was told it was just me. But now it may be just us. lol!
I think the hurry up will really help with execution…they don’t have time to think and show more focus imo
I dig it. Heaven knows we have the conditioning to do it. Coach Schmidtty is a cardio architect.
Nah, I think it will look a bit different. I think we see more ground game due to the personnel, and maybe 2016 or 2017 it will resemble the 2008 offense more.
You do realize we had two 1000 yard rushers in 08 right…used a tight end and passed the ball around a lot with the hurry up
Yes, but we don’t have a group of proven wide receivers and tight ends that the 2008 offense had, which is why I think we lean on the run more than the pass at the beginning. Also, I don’t believe that the 2008 offense used much of the fullback position. I think they somehow incorporate Flowers somewhere in there.
We had Brody Eldridge and Matt Clapp at the fullback position…I think Meier and Andrews will really surprise this year..Meier will be a shoe in for the Brody role imo
I hope you’re right, I’d love to see the TE position return.
Me too…East Carolina didn’t use them much but I’m not sure they had the personnel…I’m really high on Meier and Andrews and guarantee CoachJay will have them involved
Did they officially more Andrews over to TE? I know there was some speculation but didn’t hear anything official.
Last I saw, they had tried him in both positions. Who knows where he will end up.
I haven’t seen anything official…he’ll be a hell of a flex type…in the hurry up he could be inline one play and split out on another…seems like Blake was talking about his blocking coming along so I just assumed
Coach Jay?
Boulware
Don’t forget about Ijalana, he showed he was a very strong and physical player in last year’s spring game.
surprised we didn’t see more of him in the run game…did he have a redshirt…with Bell and Rip it might have been hard to get out there
He was redshirted.
Good record or bad, I’m excited to see the next chapter in the story of the fuh-reak they call Samaje.
I think it’s too early to say 2008 but I do think 2007 is a better expectation to have. But if Trevor or baker hit an elite level in this new offense then the results of 2008 become realistic. Both Trevor and baker have about the same experience Bradford had going into 2008.
I think the hurry up might create a higher completion percentage just because the focus will be greater and less time to think
Glad you’re not writing off Trevor. Some are, but I think the kid has the drive to improve.
I think new direction might really help him. It was obvious that the coaches didn’t do anything this year that resembled the game plan in the sugar bowl so I don’t think they played to his strengths and he had very little in experienced receivers.
But I think the 2 that will have the best chance to get this team far next season are the 2 with the most experience.
I dig it. Thanks, Zack.
Anyway you look at it, we are going to give up more sacks. We may be taking for granted how good our pass protection was this year. Knight had forever to throw, which makes it all the more concerning that he struggled. Statistically, there is usually always regression to the mean. And we’ll likely throw more. And we’ll have two “new” starting tackles. If all goes well and we get a QB, we are two years away I think from being a NC threat.
That’s a fair point about pass protection we will see though. As good as Williams and Thompson were, they weren’t close to Trent Williams and loadholt so I don’t think it will be impossible to fill their spots.
Also, i think we’ll get the ball off a whole lot faster in this offense than last years, so I don’t see our QBs getting sacked as much
Yep.
I like Frison and Brown…plus like mentioned with quick outs on some plays they won’t have to work too long and on others they can just plow then hit some play action down fleld…heard Riley likes to go deep
So AD miller de-committed from Illinois…was he on a visit here this weekend or what?
I know Riley was recruiting him but wasn’t sure if he had an offer or not
Yeah I just looked back at the open post from a few days ago and he didn’t have an offer then and the note said he would be more likely to visit if an offer was made.
Yeah I fig he would get an offer if the visit by Van didn’t go well….the fact that we are showing interest prob got other programs involved and that would be the reason he is opening his recruitment back up imo
Kid sure can go up and get it! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PlJEfThRhcY&feature=youtu.be
Thanks for sharing that it’s impressive
I favor a strong run game w/ PA, a QB with a strong arm who can throw on the run. Am hopeful Riley runs it. One of my biggest concerns has always been OU to me seemed ‘off’ in bowl games. These passing offenses depend upon timing and I feel much of that is gained by playing and lost in the interim between bowls. Esp compared to a run oriented offense. What do you guys think?
Answering your question requires a lot more football knowledge than I can realistically provide. I’ll just say, I like winning. Fair, clean, and classy winning.
That’s all I got. Hoping someone will dialog with you with something more substantive.
I think they will run it more than others expect. Riley has never had one running back as good as our guys. We will run it well I think.
Yep we have a freshman all american and a guy that is supposed to be better than him then Ford Ross and Anderson (likely red shirt)..were gonna have some nice balance I believe and think we will put up some big numbers..keys will be the line and qb play
I’ve said it before and I will say it again, Perine will have a better career than Mixon. Hope Mixon does well but Perine is proven to be the real deal.
Yep, his best running back over the last five years was a three star. That’s the worst we have had over the last five years and he just left because he couldn’t get on the field.
QB has to be quick and decisive with his hot reads. Which is something our guys haven’t done in a while.
Unless it was grade issue or OU felt good about its other offers not offering Thomas makes no sense at all.
I think the plan was to get McGinnis first then go after Thomas not just letting him be a plan B. But that they didn’t want to scare off McGinnis.
Yeah McGinnis is our top inside target I believe and possibly McKee but haven’t heard about him..thought it was between us and Mich state
We must have backed off McKee. I think he wanted to commit and we cooled off so he started to reconsider.
thx..hadn’t seen that
We really need a LB coach that gets how to communicate with young ppl. I just do not get our tactics for LB recruiting. Be straight up with the kid, and show up when you say you are going to…
Watch, OU will be left holding the bag of schollies for linebacker because they held out for that one or two and they go elsewhere. I know I’m way far from being on the inside but sure is a mystery why ou doesn’t have tht position with several commits like other programs have.
If they land McGinnis then their strategy as far as not going after Thomas would have paid off imo. And if they flip smith or go get brown then it would be almost perfect even with all the misses. It will suck if they miss on McGinnis and smith. If I could pick the one recruit that would pay off the most I would choose Houston but that’s very unlikely.
I already miss these two big rascals.

Rip is a ferocious blocker. He’ll be a steal for any NFL team. Hoping Palange is even half as brutal.
Palange is like a guy I would video game create to win the WWF World Championship Belt.
I’m pretty sure in the mold of rip. J.R said he would get him into wrestling if football doesn’t pan out. I think rip will be good but unfortunately he’s a the position of least tenure in the league. JD was really good and I think lasted 5 years which is double the average full back
Mike Alstott, and Moose Johnston. But the beating is fierce.
Kuhn has had a nice run in Green Bay. I would think that’s a fair comparison.
Tom Rathman for the niners (out of nebraska).
Definitely not gonna win any beauty pageants soon. If he’s as mean in a helmet as he is in his roster pic, he’s gonna be fun to watch.
He looks like a Crood.
He also demonstrated he had good hands and a nose for the line to make a first down.
Just got home from a party, didn’t get to see all the game. How did they do?
Didn’t see much of it, been watching the car auction.
Think it is being replayed now.
The QBs were so bad that they could not get close to either of them. A long bomb to Blake was on the wrong side and the DB interfered – but they picked up the flag. That play would have been their longest by far. I did hear that Bell was good in the practices. In the game, he got his block most of the time, while several O-linemen were smoked by the opposing D-linemen.
WILL THOMAS NOW GET AN OFFER ? DOES SOMEONE LIKE WHITFIELD FROM SPIRO,OK START TO GET SOME CONSIDERATION……. HOPING FOR SOME GOOD NEWS TOMORROW
Don’t shout at me, bro.
I CAN HEAR YOU NOW.
haha.
just a fault i have that i continue to do maybe this is better
extremely hard to read all caps stuff. I usually avoid them altogether. think most do
Not sure what the problem is. They haven’t missed out yet on guys they obviously have higher so I’m good with them passing as long as they close out the way they expect.
Hopfully!
Going out on a limb here, we all know that players like new uniforms. It attracts talent, it gets players excited to get on the field and such. What if we brought that concept over to the coaches? Maybe Bob is recruiting the wrong way? Who wouldn’t want to come to Oklahoma and coach in this? I’ll take my paycheck now.
Coach in the white helmet? Edit: had to refresh.
What? No. Bring the red pants back.
And the Saucony shoe endorsement.
I’d be interested see what Saucony can cook up in the jersey department!
Me and you both. We should be the uniform consultants for TFB.
All I know is Barry would recruit circles around kish. And we would have linebackers lining up to come play here.
True.
I would love to see Kish in a fur coat, much like Barry’s when he recruited the Boz.
That could change everything for Kish.
Maybe it’s what he’s been missing all this time?
Lol and a cell phone
Tatts and piercings?
….take the personality and motivational skills, you can keep the polyester………however, I would prefer that crimson be worn on the sidelines
That’s when coaches were coaches and there was no doubt.
yeah…it was also when they gave you smelling salt for concussions and salt pills for dehydration…lol…but those were the days…lol
Exactly, 1 dixie cup of water with 2 salt pills and get your ass back out there! lol.
Son…are you hurt? or are you injured? lol
That sounds like my dad. I took a foot to the nose ( before the t-bar face mask was cool ) and the coaches laid me on my back telling me my nose was broke. I looked up and heard my dad ask if I was going back in the game, I told him I couldn’t because my nose was broke and my uniform was covered in blood so he said if you can’t play, get up and I’ll take you to the hospital. I didn’t even want to go because it felt like I was letting him down.
Branding, branding, branding. Bring the crimson pants back.
I never bought the pants but I was guilty of owning a pair of those shoes. 🙂
Legendary shoes.
Still have a pair of those turf shoes in the attic along with my other relics! lol
I think my mother threw mine away years ago. haha.
Thats great.
Spotbilt shoes! Had a pair in high school.
That’s when I bought mine, loved the way they looked on the coaches.
What’s funny to me is he would blaze up a cigarette on the side line and hardly anyone batted an eye.
Today? They would get arrested.
Wasn’t illegal back then
Darn compliance department…
who? the people who batted the eye? 🙂
Coach B been working.

Not exactly a bad resume.
They put on quite the show at the Noble.

Anyone notice the changes in conceptual master plan for the new press box? I’m not thrilled about the new cathedral style windows on either side. They first plan was better looking in my opinion.
Where’d you see a new conceptual master plan? Link?
If you look at the pictures in the beginning you’ll notice they differ from what was shown in the beginning as well as on the video. You’ll also see it is starting to look like a castle as the crenelated the tops of the press box tower and Switzer Center.
http://gfoms.com/?SPSID=750323&SPID=127245&DB_LANG=C&DB_OEM_ID=31000
I think those windows are nice. I am feeling the castle architecture.
I just liked the shape of first version more, it flowed more.
Yeah I see the first rendition in there. I like the cultural reference versus the post-modern clean.
Did they remove seats from the middle section? Can’t really tell.
I can’t either. I know this project isn’t emphasizing increasing seating. But I can’t tell here.
yes that is it. the new way looks like a cathedral type look, whereas the other is trying too hard to look modern
Nice find.
I personally like the Gothic style architecture myself. Our oldest buildings are in the same style. I like the change. Now when are they going to build the damn thing?
Is it December when construction begins?
I like it…hope they make it earth quake proof with all of the fraking going on
haha, lol.
I know you’re kidding, but without the fracking, there would likely be no stadium expansion!
Yes. I’m full aware of the economic benefits oil and gas provide for the state..and country too
Hmmm…front entrance to Bob’s place…huge gothic arched windows…now, the press box…
Are they naming it the Bob Stoops press box lol
It is a risk to go this route, the previous plan was easier to look at in that flow sense.
How’s the fish biting this time of year…seen AStephens fishing at Stoops house today…hope he keeps that pond stocked with big ones!
Well, it looks like we won’t be seeing the Crimson pants on the sideline after all.

For some reason I can’t view this
Me niether.
I noticed that, too. Twitter sharing has been iffy lately.
What is it?
Who’s Twitter was it
added above.
Still nothing.
This is just silly…
Got it. GOT IT.
refresh and the screenshot image should show
Me either.
I’m not seeing what you’re not seeing.
Im not smelling what anyone is stepping in!
I see exactly what he’s seeing…NOTHING!!! LOL
I found out why Brown decommitted on his OV
Tell
those bags look like they’re on steroids lol
Phew.
So………why?
wrong breed of cow
Yup.
Longhorn isn’t the best eater.
Been a few years since I pulled on a teet.
just cow teet right…I’ve pulled a few hefers I met at the bar recently
Always avoid the bar hefer!, I don’t miss the early morning milking sessions. lol.
Wille said he never went to bed with an ugly woman but he woke up with a few
Been there, used to call it the old 10 and 2. lol.
lol……..I seen a vid how women get rid in the morning with a stand up pisser lol…I know it’d work on me!!
I never stay the night…I only see victoria’s secret…and it’s safe with me
Don’t miss those days one bit, much better to just snug up to a good one every night.
Did the hot crazy matrix chart work for you
Like a charm.
If you haven’t seen this…couple of cops came up with this. Hilarious but a bit too true.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XuI6GTY9eVc
It’s true. Lol
Yep I’ve seen that..actually what made me think of the chart
That’s just wrong…..but so true at the same time.
Because screen shots should work better.
Thats social media, at its finest right there.
try to click and drag…works for me sometimes
That’s usually how I do it, but unfortunately using the mobile right now.
For those that don’t know…you asked Riley to wear red pants correct
You are correct.
A quick OT.
For only the second time in 26 years I broke my personal boycott of movie theaters and saw American Sniper earlier today.
I recommend it, but must say it isn’t a movie you watch as much as you “feel.”
Chris Kyle was given the nickname “Legend” and he was certainly that, there is no telling how American servicemen lives he saved/protected.
It’s been almost two years since he was murdered and I will never forget standing in the cold and rain with countless others to pay our respects as the 200 mile funeral procession rolled by. I went down to Hillsboro, but every bridge and every burg, ville and town along I-35 was filled with people paying their respects to an American Hero.
I never met the man, more is the pity, but he was my brother.
He was a beloved son of Texas.
http://youtu.be/U53ZVfW0CIk
I’m not going to a theater for the same reasons as you but my wife informed me today she can stream it so I will see it soon. Looks fantastic.
It’s intense, emotionally.
Kudos to Clint Eastwood for such an excellent performance.
Did Cooper live up to the part…I don’t like theaters either but want to watch it…think Cooper couldn’t take those boots off after the shoot
It’s not that I don’t like theaters, I have a big problem with Hollywood.
I was willing to make an exception this time because of who made it and who it was about.
Cooper was actually quite good, considering he is nothing like the man he is pretending to be and has none of the same experiences.
I read an article the other day that interviewed Mrs. Kyle and she has now embraced it. Meeting Eastwood and Cooper went a long way in overcoming her reticence and she claimed that Cooper actually displayed some of the little nervous twitches that Chris had.
Chris is what we call a “Sheepdog.” Many of us that are Sheepdogs know what that means, and Chris embraced that role as a boy looking after his younger brother.
On Sheep, Wolves and Sheepdogs.
That’s cool…I hope Cooper gets an Oscar and gives a well deserved shout out to all of our men and women defending our rights to argue about coaching
Amen to that.
GOD BLESS THE SHEEPDOGS.
Yessir!
/woof
“The sheep generally do not like the sheepdog. He looks a lot like the wolf. He has fangs and the capacity for violence. The difference, though, is that the sheepdog must not, cannot and will not ever harm the sheep. Any sheepdog who intentionally harms the lowliest little lamb will be punished and removed. The world cannot work any other way, at least not in a representative democracy or a republic such as ours.” We see it all around us today. I am a Sheepdog.
When I was training to be a police officer, one of our instructors made us read On Combat. A must read for all who serve in the military and police, and one of the greatest books I’ve ever read.
Eastwood puts out some dang good films!
Is Clint in it or does he just direct? I look forward to seeing it, but it will be at the house.
Clint was the director.
Cooper originally purchased the rights and had intended to produce it, not act in it.
etx…….I heard about this when I was living in tx……….thank you very much for posting………
My wife and I had a date night. We, too, went to see American Sniper. My father and two of my brothers served in the military. I’m eternally grateful for those who have served in our military. When I see a serviceman, policeman, I thank them.
For those on who are on this site, thank you for your service.
Want to hear something that’ll really boil your blood? I was listening to a left-of-center podcast the other day that was smearing Chris Kyle as a sociopath and thug. What’s up is down in this country anymore.
A big thanks to all veterans, Sooners and otherwise, for your service to one nation under God. I will raise my kids to love their country, their state, and their Sooners.
WTH man?
I don’t see anything in his post that should ruffle feathers. He listened to a liberal podcast that claimed something stupid, which takes all their credibility and makes you wonder about liberals. He said thanks to veterans for putting their lives on the line for us. And as far as I can tell this is still one nation under God. So I say heard understood acknowledged
To be fair, he could just be responding to the content of my post and affirming the shock that any sane person would feel when presented with the idea that a veteran’s service to his country makes him or her a “thug”.
Spoke too soon.
If it actually happened. Seems odd someone so right would be listening to something extremely left. But at the end of the day (hope everyone appreciates the phrase) this is a board dedicated to sports; specifically Oklahoma sports and predominately football. Thanks for listening.
While I am “so right” (in more ways than one), at work I listen to a few broadcasts that span the socio-political spectrum. I try to get input from both sides. I wanted to refrain from naming the podcast, but if you’d like to know, it was the “Jimmy Dore Show”. The Young Turks also made similar remarks.
But you’re right. This is an OU sports thread. But for me (and others, I assume), faith is not so easily separated from other modes of living.
I don’t ever listen to that drivel from either side, so citing names has no real bearing on me. I know the reps of a few of the more notables, but avoid them like the plague. I just ain’t into pulling the correspondence down to their level either way.
I can respect that, MoJoOkie. Thank you for your input. Boomer!
Sooner!
I respect that but just so you know the gospel knows no boundaries and has no limits
Respect you as well, boomer. My religious views are too complex to be debated on a message board.
Exactly my thoughts when I heard it.
I still think liberalism should be classified as a mental disorder in the DSM-IV.
Bingo.
Well go and discuss it at your church. Just not here. Maybe Rush Limbaugh has an OU board for you right wing nuts.
Roger that. Thanks again.
“Once abolish the God, and the government becomes the God.”
Happy Martin Luther King day!!
Hate to break it to you, but Jim Crow was institutionalized for federal offices by Woodrow WIlson and the Progressive movement. Progressives also championed the eugenics movement, which asserted that non-European groups were “inferior” and should be erased over time by genetic engineering. MLK was also a moral conservative. If you read his ‘Letter from a Birmingham Jail”, MLK speaks of an enduring moral order, which is a fundamental conservative tenet. Compare MLK’s letter with Russell Kirk’s “Ten Conservative Principles”.
And if you honestly want to spare this thread of political debate, you should probably not respond anymore. All Sooners, conservative or liberal or blue or pink or whatever, are welcome on this board.
Blah, blah, blah… Just go to your little Rush Limbaugh web site or your church and discuss it all you want with people of like (little) mind.
I’ll do that. Thanks, jmac45. May we strike hands in our love for our beloved Sooners.
Thanks.
“There are those who hate Christianity and call their hatred an all-embracing love for all religions.” – Chesterton, 1/13/1906
he was just another big mouthed texan.
Wow. If you’re talking about Chris Kyle then maybe if you ever get murdered we can talk crap about you after your gone
Let him be. Let his comment speak for itself. “From the overflow of the heart, the mouth speaks”.
“Men do not differ much about what things they will call evils; they differ enormously about what evils they will call excusable.” And those who mock the men protecting them are simply cowards.
Don’t you right wing nuts have another place you can go and talk your drivel?? Now, you’re gonna ruin this board too.
I don’t mind being a right-wing “nut” by left-wing standards. But you’re right: this is not the place for that kind of discussion. Another time on another board, friend.
Some guys I tell ya’. No problem Robertson, keep it here if you want.
Thanks, friend. It’s all good. Everyone has a right to their opinion. Right or wrong.
“Woe to those who call good evil and evil good”, May Jesus be glorified. If that makes me a “right wing nut”, then so be it.
Church! 🙂
My world view is formulated by the Gospel. It goes with me where I go, and that includes message boards. The problem with the “church” is that for years we kept it in the church. We need to “Go ye therefore and preach the Gospel”
……not here, please…….
Seconded
Don’t mind us, friend. Scrollbar.
I’s weird how some want to talk about everything else on here but mention God or Jesus and this is a “Sooners” board.
It’s all good. Again, everyone’s entitled to their opinion. It’s important we show grace in these discussions. All Sooners welcome.
Yes, everyone is welcome. Sorry if I offended any of you. I was just having a conversation with a brother. Thanks.
Boomer! 🙂
Sooner!
I can’t like this enough. Some dude thinks he can say anything about anybody wants to squash the gospel. The door is that way———->
Amen and amen. I’m right there with you. Thanks for this.
“War is not ‘the best way of settling differences; it is the only way of preventing their being settled for you.” G.K. Chesterton, 1915
Ugh.
The fact that men like Kyle make it possible for them to speak such nonsense freely is truly ironic.
Heard its a great movie. I had former students and Marine buddies in the Fallujah operations. I will teach about Kyle and the others when I get to that part of my U.S History class. Our children need warrior heroes as much as it need the kind of men like MLk (who is also a hero to me).
Very Good Movie. Loved that no one in the audience got up and walked out until after the funeral percession scene, thought it was classy.
I also enjoyed the movie, though it wasn’t quite what I expected it was
still very good. Cooper did a great job, though. It didn’t have the
attention to detail and accuracy that Lone Survivor had, but the actors
were great. Taya Kyle’s actress was a surprise, as well, she did a nice
job.
As for Chris Kyle, I’m not sure how to put into words my
appreciation for all he did for this Country and our troops while
overseas and at home. I still remember I was texting my Dad, who had
actually met Kyle once on a tour in Iraq, when my mom came into my room
and told me Chris Kyle was dead. I didn’t hear her at first, and was
shocked when I finally comprehended what she had just said. I passed the
news on to my dad and he couldn’t believe it. Nothing quite brings you
back down to earth like the death of a great man! He’s up there with the
good lord and other great men and women who have sacrificed for this
Country. I hope his family liked the movie.
D Thomas is 200 lbs. He has DB’s frame.
He is about the same size as Sunderland. I know a lot of people like the Thomas kid because early in his highlights he makes a lot of wow plays. But I think as a linebacker he’s probably a project that needs to put on at least 25 pounds maybe 35 because he’s so tall before he can take on ball carriers one on one.
Would like to have him because he reminds me of striker but I see why the coaches were waiting.
My entire worldview was formed by the gospel of Jesus Christ and 80s professional wrestling. My family is off to celebrate one of those two things this morning. Happy Sunday to all my Sooner brothers and sister.
Amen, erchou kyrie ‘Iesou. Amen, come Lord Jesus.
AMEN.
Interesting facts here on the number of recruiting stars a player has and where they end up. That’s why I pay way more attention to whom we have coaching than whom is being coached.
http://247sports.com/Article/NFC-AFC-Championship-Recruiting-Rankings-247Sports-NFL-34837307
Thanks for posting. I would like to know how stars correlate with ncaa success though. For example jason white and josh heupel didn’t have nfl careers but they combined to start 3 championship games. And all the other guys that make up those championship contenders that never really get recognized but have an impact on those teams.
Loaded with 2 star and 3 star players and a number of good ones who were never ranked at all. Maybe the 5 stars have it all too easy, and the lower rated folks work harder. More likely, however, is that the people ranking and rating are little more accurate then flipping a coin.
Are we even attempting to reach out to Louis brown since he decommitted from Texas ????
I haven’t heard sure hope they do!! He would a great center piece to rebuild the defense on!!
I’ve been told to have every expectation for Montgomery to reach out (if he hasn’t already).
Finally watched Riley’s presser in its entirety… I like this cat, A LOT, and wish him (and us) all the best!
BOOMER!!!!!
I liked it too.
https://twitter.com/JLMcCuistion/status/556871179118460928
Where’s the BOOM!
Who were his recruiters?
Bob, Monty, Viney, and Boulware all did the in-home.
https://twitter.com/OU_CoachJerryM/status/556876264208732160
Love it!
Monty said BOOM 3 times. Does that mean 3 commits? Is it sad that I sit here and try to figure everything out according to tweets?
Fig it was just a matter of time…after hearing his uncle talking Sooner history to Bob you have to think that is a die hard Sooner family…Welcom Antoine
Any ideas here????
https://twitter.com/JLMcCuistion/status/556873952811692032
It’s nothing of substance. Trust me.
Absolutely. Any news on the Nebbish commit and his visit?
Warren crystal balled him to OU this am
I think he’s the mystery recruit. Lampkin has been too open for him to be the mystery.
He is scheduled to visit Oregon and will likely choose between them and OU. Time line??
He is probably suprised at the size of Bass, Antoine Stephens caught while fishing at Stoops pond. No real news! LOL!
Either Stephens is very articulate…or he’s well-versed in a Thesaurus. Either way, big pickup and welcome!!
https://twitter.com/Afeeva_14/status/556873971090468865
………that’s refreshing to read, or, ghost twitterer?
Huh? A kid can’t know certain words? Its actually him, yes.
Like a ghost writer I think
Why is there a perception that he didn’t write that?
There’s no telling what some racists think
No telling. But I’ve seen enough.
I just don’t understand putting someone down no matter the circumstances. Kids happy with his future and where he’s going to start the chase of his dream and some clown on the internet has to put him down
Gross judgements from an armchair. Antoine wins the scholarship, and has a bright future, nonetheless.
Really didn’t intend for my post to turn into this. I wasn’t implying anything other than I’m happy he’s a Sooner. Apologies to TFB
I know you didn’t. The wrong came after your post. But thanks for taking responsibility.
Some people don’t know how to act. I obviously have difficulty restraining myself from reacting to those actions. You were good. Others weren’t
He may have been over the top. Probably was. Doesn’t make him a racist though.
As I said, the only tweet I can see is the one above. Its from a black kid who uses a big word. Some nameless internet moniker rags on him. Then comes back later after a stink has been made and says its tongue in cheek. He got called on it which is what should happen. You say something, stand behind it. Be a man. That’s what’s wrong with the world nowadays. Too many little babies who were never punished. Add to that the fact you’re anonymous on the internet and all of a sudden you’ve got a bunch of spoiled little bitches who think they can say whatever they want
Takes one to know one.
You’re calling me racist? I don’t get that
I think he has a valid point when compared to many of their posts. I think people are far too quick to label others as racists just because they disagree with them.
…bingo!….you get it!……
You can talk to me. You don’t have to talk around me
So the only post sitting in front of us uses a big word and some no talent douchebag comes on the internet to rag on him. That screams “nice normal guy”. I seriously doubt it. Someone’s going to call one of these kids out….I’ll call him out. Very simple
I’m confused about that statement also.
….good grief……it’s a tongue-in-cheek remark on the usual twitter fare that we see…….bs, oth, being the overreactive ass that he displays on many occasions, immediately cries racism……..no surprise there
I shoulda realized your excessive use of ellipses is code for “tongue in cheek” and you weren’t bashing on a kid for using bigger words than you’re used to. Completely my fault there or maybe watch your mouth next time. People like you deserve to be called out. Some kid is chasing his dream and you rag on him. And now you and paganpink are acting like I’m the bad guy? That’s priceless
Finally the silence is broke! Glad to get a BOOM out of this weekend.
Great pickup. Now Dalton and Darryl need to come on board, which i believe will happen
BOOM!!!
With all the Doom and Gloom over Sooner recruiting OU is now up to #12 on Rivals.
Just think, if we had a LB coach who could actually recruit we’d be top 10.
I think that number will keep going up hopefully somewhere around 8th. The problem is if Overton can’t sign on nsd then we lose a guy that’s rated pretty high so who knows. Hopefully the kid gets everything figured out and can sign later
Murray should give this class a little boost in the ratings.
agreed! This surprised me and really made me appreciate our class even more. (rivals team rankings)
BOOM
Welcome to the Sooner family, Mr. Stephens. May it be a great few years of your life.
Welcome to Sooner Nation Mr Stephens!!!! Can’t wait to see you on the island at OU!
OMG OMG OMG no stars!!!!! OMG OMG OMG
(posting for *********2077 on the other board)
Soonerman may bite the big one. I, however, am ecstatic!
Uh….oooo…k
riiiiiiiiiight…
BOOM.
Antoine, Welcome to the OU family.
Also, watching Louis Brown, does anyone get the sense that he is a bigger version of Whitfield? To me there seems to be a lot of similarities.
Right on, Sweet news on Stephens!!
So his decision to postpone committing lasted 3 more days!! How ya gonna keep ’em down on the farm once they’ve fished at Bob’s!! He knew where he wanted to be. Welcome to the Sooner Nation!!! BOOMer!!!
Welcome to the Sooner Nation Antoine!!!!!
Does anyone else find it really easy to root against Aaron Rodgers?
I find it easier to root against Pete.
One great mind and one meh mind think alike
I find it extremely easy to root against Pete Carroll
Me too. I dig me some Russell Wilson, though.
Seems like he was raised correctly. It doesn’t quite cancel out Pete tho. Maybe if Brian still played up there
Brian, Brian, Brian. Brian.
Brian who?
Bosworth of course
YES.
DUUUHHHH
AHHHHHHH.
..very good qb that waited a long time for his chance and favre to retire…….
I think it’s easy to root for Rodgers perfect replacement for the greatest of all time
Tom Brady?
I didn’t say the greatest dbag
He’d be at the top of both lists.
I consider Brett Favre the best of all time. Brady has never played without bellichek and he made cassel look like a guy worth 5 years and 60 million bucks.
I think Brady would be great with Rex Ryan as his coach. The GOAT debate will never have a winner. The thing that separates Favre from the rest (in a bad way) was his tendency to be a liability at times. Great in his own right, but I don’t want to give my QB the ball and be thinking, “Please don’t screw this up.”
That’s true but even he never went out like Peyton the last 2 years that I can recall.
Yeah, and I’m not sure how. We’re talking about a guy who took a team that went undefeated in the regular season the season before, and totally missed the playoffs. Then the Chiefs were all like, “That’s our man”.
They totally missed the playoffs at 11-5 though
I guess you’re right. Still, I don’t think I would have paid that amount for a career backup. Then again, I would be the greatest team owner and GM ever. (Total sarcasm font)
I find it easier to root for Rodgers since finding out his GF is Olivia Munn out of OU
Yeah. Putnam City North grad.
Aaron Rodgers is the man!!!!1
Watched him shred the Cowboys. He’s ridiculous.
You shut your dirty mouth
GB ball.
Sweet
real surprise, so far…….thought this would be a dog game in seattle’s favor……
Go Pack Go!
Leaving way to many points on the field, though. Seattle is like a ticking time bomb. I don’t like it.
yeah, lot of time left and that pic may turn it if they cash in
Looks like where shaping out good in multiple positions recruiting wise love the commit at corner back…. but where is the lbs at we let thomas slip thru our finger are we truly only trying to sign McGinnis? We need to sign at least 3 in order to run the the 34 defence
We’re going after smith also
Word of advice to the Brainiacs: don’t show Kish’s picture with Van Jefferson. The Kish haters will throw a fit.
Sh** sorry I ruined it.
BURN IT DOWN WITH FIRE!!!!!!!!
As apposed to burning it down with………..?
Sugar diabetes.
@J_Smitty31: “Commitment is not Convenient” a great statement I received from great men. Food for thought #demandtobeknown #smithbrosontherise
Who is our next LB offer?
It’s not over until he cancels his OV with OU
“Commitment is non-binding” -NCAA
So any idea on a decommitment date for Van Jefferson??? :DDD
He’s not coming to OU.
Dang…was really hoping OU had a chance here
http://i.imgur.com/1r0v0qV.jpg
It’s what I do here.
LOL
Jordan, is this because you have inside info that you cannot tell us or is it just an educated gut feeling?
Just a general consensus re: Jefferson. Very little chance he leaves the South.
DOOOOOH! It’s like you looked me square in the eye and stabbed me in the heart.
It’s because Kish was with him, isn’t it?
I think that goes without saying…
The Kish of death.
Dude kinda looks like an older version of Beavis, from the Beavis and Butthead show.. I’m not too sure I had ever seen Kish.
Imaging Kish pulling his shirt over back of his head and saying, “I am Kisholio!! He, He”
http://i.imgur.com/ckPofTx.jpg
Now THAT’S funny. I don’t care what you say.
That is freaking PERFECT!!
Next you’re gonna tell me my dreams of Kyler Murray and continued rumors are all wasted…
Don’t answer that.
why would anyone upvote this?
I did based off of his spiteful straight forward approach.
Yeah, straight answer.
Why do you say that? Do you know something? Did his visit not go well?
For those that don’t have Tweeter
https://twitter.com/TheFbBrainiacs/status/556879185843466243
Ba BOOM.
that would be Bob OOM, no!?
Bob BOOM.
I was using the second b in bob to account for first B in boom, lol
It was nice, it was a nice use of letters.
Ha!
Did you see his pic of him fishing at Bob’s house!? Bob sure knows how to “reel” em in! ha!
He needs to teach Kish how to fish.
UPVOTE x1000000
No please share with the group
I tried, but says the image is too large…
Thanks for trying
Maybe Jordan can get it, its on the kids twitter i think..
it’s on the twitter link at the top of the page.
Sorry if its a tweeter I don’t have that. You know of another way to view it? if not that’s cool. Thanks for posting.
I don’t have it either but you can still view it. Go to the top of this page and click on the twitter symbol, scroll down until you see a guy with a fishing pole and click on the image to see the full view.
Cool Thanks
go to lanthieves and view his profile…somebody posted it
Thanks I saw it. Pretty cool that was one of the things they got to do at CBS house
I wonder if he keeps that pond stocked…if not he needs to stock it up
yeah he does. I need to restock mine. We had the creek flood years back and lost a bunch of fish.
We restocked after the heavy droughts when we cleaned out the dried ponds to hold more water two years ago
Yeah I use Dunn’s out of Oklahoma
Great selection by Stoops for a home.
Nice! Stoops is giving TFB a shout out!
Official commitment t-shirt.
Did K and the gang ship a load of those to Bob and he’s handing out those t-shirts now??
You could make a living as a recruiting coordinator. No sarcasm.
Now I know why he didn’t commit on thursday…didn’t get his shirt in time 😉
Go Pats! 😀
They are capable of beating Seattle. Ergo, I hope they win.
….damn, as dramatic as a game can get……..gb let it slip thru
Crazy!
My Packers just displayed the worst choke I have ever seen from a football team. Wow, was that an embarrassment.
…….they were so close on several occasions in reg to put it away and didn’t……..they collapsed in ot
I went to take a shower after the TD with 2 minutes remaining. I come back and crosby is kicking to send it into OT! I was like, WTH just happened?
Yep… can’t believe. Completely torn up over here.
Me too. Am a stockholder and fan since I met Forrest Gregg when I was a wee sprout. When Burnett with down with that INT instead of trying to max the time usage and get more yds then they run up the middle to ‘use time’ instead of trying to win…it brought back the whole Ostate thing where OU thought they had won on Sanchez’s INT and quit playing to win. Like a punch to the gut.
…….if I remember correctly, earlier in the ffg/td drive where gb had them in 3rd and 20 something, went ou and seattle converted……I do feel for the gb player on the on-side……
Think this will be one of the best Super Bowls in a long time! Can’t wait!
You goin pats or colts? Think I’ll take Colts, just for fun.
Da Pats! America. ….enough said! You?
looks like I was off just a bit..
Craziest stats:
Russel Wilson is now 10-0 vs Super Bowl winners.
Russel Wilson’s teams, going back to NC State, have held a lead in the game at least once, for what is now 83 straight games! Whhaaat!?
A Stephens Sr Hudi film link for anybody that wants to watch again:
http://www.hudl.com/athlete/2975184/antoine-stephens
So where is Darreyl Patterson? Guy is aching for an OU offer, does an OV, and no commit? Thought he’d be the one commit we got this weekend. Don’t tell me he is going all Jalin Barnett on us.
Wait on it ( I hope 😉 )
Patience is NOT one of my virtues. I pray for more and, as my wife tells me, am receiving ample opportunities to practice it. ; )
Mine either LOL and my wife would say the same
I agree. Might slow play his way out of an available slot.
Would serve him right if the final CB slot given to Orr. smh
Be careful requesting recruit information. Jordan is in a soul crushing mood tonight.
LOL
Should we begin referring to him as KillJoydan Esco? Bring it!! After that soul crushing GB loss, nothing can faze me!!! LoL
HA! Right? Insult to injury!
What is in that Tennessee water? Didn’t they just take 2 or 3 QB’s in this year’s class? Why go there and sit when you can compete for a start in 2016.
Pretty location, good recruiters, strong fan base, money…I can see the appeal.
Yes, but there are pretty noticeable waiting lines at both Ohio state and Tennessee.
Money talks?
It certainly does.
Their bag men are extremely silent. Makes it much easier.
…….too bad, all the drama was in the first game……..colts aren’t ready for the big stage yet, a draft or 2 away maybe
..think seattle will win, but brady is a money qb and there is the belichick factor……just want a good game on a par with gb if possible
If anyone gets close to Brady, there will be an automatic flag. Horrible.
Yes. That flag was terrible. He hit him in the chest with his facemask. Ughh
I think QBs should just wear 2 flags at this point
Yep. Can’t hit em high, can’t hit em low, can’t hit em late. Just call it 2 hand touch on the QB
belichick factor? I think your slighting Ole’ Petey here…? You must have forgotten the 55-19 azz whoopin’ he put on yours truly…? Folks I think stoops is a good family man…But when it comes to an actual “real big game” we are outclassed…Hope Stoops can learn from his failures but I just don’t think the man has it in em’..Beating a Bowden is okay. We have never lost to fsu in a bowl game. But beating a team who is coached well when it matters….priceless…!
……didn’t slight pete, no reference to ou, and have you been here before under another name……..just curious, you sound familiar
Familiar?? You slighted ole’petey and I’m just going correct you on that? Take it as you may….And yes my name is familiar…You like?
Thou art some fool, I am loath to beat thee.
Yep, you are correct.
Yeah he would be correct if he asked what is Petey’s record in playoff games etc.. Better yet what is Ole’ petey’s record in bowl games I’m talking Major Bowls now…? Really I’d like to know myself, don’t follow petey but I know he got us pretty good.
Not to nitpick, but the only time OU lost to FSU was in a bowl game.
“- UPDATE (Sun., 12:12 pm): Sooners pick up a commitment
from 2015 CB Antoine Stephens. We’ll have more later today, but just
wanted to get up the good news.”
Later Yet? JK
I thought they shut down the pony express years ago.
LOL
Found this on another website thought I would post it here to see what your thoughts were on who the new WR coach would be. I am thinking Dennis Simmons may be the guy only because he is in the system right now.
Keenan
McCardell – Maryland WRs
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vgg_tuB3vk8
Dennis
Simmons – WSU WRs
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ovAwzDy1bLg
Delvaughn
Alexander – ASU WRs
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R-FdksTRVO0
Kersey posted earlier a flight from Vegas to Norman which would be Cormier which probably wouldn’t be a bad move.
However I think it might have been heupel I believed from the start he would end up there
I am sure we our waiting until after NSD at this point, but man I wish we had who ever it was here helping build for the future.
We need to come up with a new name for Riley’s O other then the ” Air Raid” we have some pretty good ones around here, so I am sure people can come up with some fun ones.
How bout…The Riley Rifle?
Battle dome!
even better
Good one
Perine Raid
Riley’s Believe it or not
cool
Shock and Awe.
The ‘ol one…two!
The ‘ol one…six
My favorite….would have to be…Shake & Bake!!! Yeah…
Nice.
Stoops and Riley….Shake and Bake!!!
Which one’s on fire?
Riley of course!
Fav so far
The Riley Factor!
Yes! good one
“Frontal Assault”…lol
LOL
Is that a “Full” frontal?
Lincoln Express.
Short and Sweet I like it
“F5” — it destroys everything in its path
KACHOW!
Was wondering if you were going to play
Late to the party.
LOL
Your old pal Troyboy is back with a new costume. FYi.
CastrolBoyToy, what a stain.
That’s the thing about stains, they’re easy to spot and hard to get rid of.
And are unwanted.
Sorry, meant for Tex.
Well Being a Veteran of Iraq myself I think I’m going to check out this new movie…OU……
Did Marquis Overton decommit?
OU backed off for academic reasons.
So they pulled the offer?
Don’t know all the details but it appears they want him to go JUCO.
I don’t think the offer has been pulled but I think the hold up is his ACT and I guess he won’t take it or have results prior to NSD. From what I’ve read the offer stands if we have an available scholly.
Mama was happy.
Sorry about the triple, just used the embed code.
Thanks for posting, that’s cool . Looks like he had a great visit!
He’s a biggun, ain’t he?
yes he is
Shane Buechele Arlington, TX Listed as dual threat QB 6’2″ 185
Jarrett Guarantano Oradell, NJ Listed as pro style QB 6’4″ 200
I’d rather have a local kid, than someone from NJ. To much of a culture shock coming from NJ to Norman. Not alot of difference in size, but style there is. Looks like Jarrett would work out better in Riley’s offense. But I also haven’t seen Shane throw the ball, I do know passing fundamentals will be the selling point of QB’s to come
There is some video on hudl for Shane, but it is limited.
Very appreciated EasTex
Welcome.
If I had my way I would go with Guarantano, he is bigger, faster and more athletic.
I think there’s a chance we just haven’t reached out to guarantano since the change was made and that could be why we’re on the outside for now. I would take shea Patterson over both but I doubt we will be considered
I thought I saw a favorable tweet by Guarantano after Riley was announced?
We’ll see, young man is going to hear lots of things from lots of people in the next year.
……..no problem, al eshbach left jersey for here…..
That’s encouraging. 🙂
AL Eschbach is horrendous to listen to. Just constant stuttering and asking Traber his opinion’s on subject matters and then making them his own. Can’t stand him
yeah, for many yrs he was the souce for anything ou and now he stutters, stammers and shouts a good deal of the time while not really knowing anything worthwhile…….he must be around 70 yo now
have you ever been to jersey or just seen jersey shore lol.
Been to Ft.Dix NJ and surrounding area….
Reminds me of the old SNL Joe Piscopo skit…I’m from Joisey.
So you’d rather take a kid who’s not quite as good because you’re afraid that he may or may not experience culture shock? It’s Oklahoma, not Russia. I’m from California and loved visiting Oklahoma.
With Riley taking the Helm, he will probably be able to recruit just about any QB he wants. After a year or Two of showing what he can do at a A1 School. But as of now OU isn’t on Jarrett’s Radar.

..I would assume you’ve read quite a bit about mr kyle………if so, is the film accurate in your opinion…………thxs
It is pretty faithful to the book and is non-political.
There are some glitches, there usually are, but nothing that detracts from the story.
