Open Post | New Years (UPDATE 1/1, 12:22 pm)

An early Happy New Year to you all!

This weekend is going to be an important one for the Sooners, so let’s talk a bit about some of the targets that are expected to be announcing their commitment.

Josh Wariboko: The talented 2015 OK Preps offensive lineman has said he’ll be making his announement at this weekend’s Under Armour All-America game. He will choose between Oklahoma, Ohio State & UCLA. Josh did get up to Columbus on a visit, but we’ve never got the sense the Buckeyes were real contenders. So we feel, as most do, that it will be a decision between OU and UCLA.

Folks at OU seem to feel pretty confident about their chances of landing Wariboko. I (K) spoke to our guy Brandon about it, and he chats with quite a few people in the Oklahoma area who also seem to think OU is the more likely destination.

I (K), however, am still leaning towards UCLA at the moment. What a lot of people don’t know about Josh is that if he had a bona fide offer to USC, he’d be a Trojan right now. He has friends that go to school there and in talking to people close to Josh, I always got the sense that he really likes California. Add to that the fact UCLA is the only school among his final three that has also offered his brother, and I just feel like the Bruins are going to be tough to beat. Hopefully I’m wrong here because Wariboko would be a nice close to the o-line class for OU and Bill Bedenbaugh.

Anthony Wheeler: Wheeler is also expected to hold his announcement during the Under Armour game. The 2015 Skyline LB will be deciding between OU, LSU, Texas & Baylor. Since we’ve been in regular contact with Wheeler, it’s always felt like an OU vs. Texas battle. The latest with regards to the Horns is that despite getting a commitment from Malik Jefferson, we’ve told UT has still been pursuing Wheeler.

However, we had a chance to catch up with Wheeler before he left for Florida and have also exchanged some texts with him while he’s been there. And we’ll just simply say that we like OU’s chances here. A couple weeks ago Wheeler told us that OU and Texas were even, but we still like OU here.

If OU does land Wheeler, to go along with Ricky DeBerry, those would be two of the most physically impressive LBs the Sooners have brought to Norman in quite some time.

Pat Allen: We mentioned earlier this week that 2015 OT Pat Allen let us know he will be deciding soon between OU, LSU, Tennessee & Georgia. We’ll save you the anticipation now and just let you now that while his interest in OU seemed genuine, we are hearing it doesn’t look like this one is going to happen for the Sooners.

Granted, OU already has a nice offensive line class and will likely bring in one more. So while adding Allen would have been great, it’s not something that will make or break the class.

Neville Gallimore: The stud Canadian 2015 DL is the one everyone is excited about (and you should be). Gallimore has offers from a number of schools and has taken visits to OU, Ohio State, Florida, Florida State & Oregon. His Top 3 at this point (though we don’t believe it’s been announced formally) would likely be OU, Ohio State & Florida State.

We caught up with Gallimore’s coach earlier this week and continue to get the sense that while nothing is certain, OU is sitting in the best possible position. We are told that Gallimore’s strongest relationship with any position coach, at any school, is with Jerry Montgomery. We’ve told you before that coach Montgomery, along with head coach Bob Stoops, recruited Gallimore and, perhaps more importantly, his family better than anyone else.

I know a lot of folks would look at schools like Ohio State and Florida State and think…”but they’re in the playoffs and the Sooners just lost to Clemson, OU can’t possibly stand a real chance here.” But we’ve always been told by people close to Neville that his family is not interested in playoffs, bowl games, etc. Their son is going to be far away from home whether he goes to Norman, Columbus, or Tallahassee. So they just want to know that their son is going to be with people they trust. And we have been told by multiple sources that the family trusts the coaches at Oklahoma more so than anyone else.

We continue to feel good about this one, but we’ll find out for sure here in a couple days with Gallimore expected to announce at this Saturday’s U.S. Army All-America game.

All-Star Game update: We’ve had this posted on TOP all week, but just in case you missed it here’s a rundown of the OU commits/targets taking part in this weekend’s games.

– UPDATE (12/31, 3:30 pm): Evidently Jay Boulware’s name is being mentioned as a possible replacement for the now vacant TE coaching position at Texas after Charlie Strong fired two assistants this afternoon. If you weren’t already aware, Boulware played at Texas and got his coaching career started there as a graduate assistant.

– UPDATE (12/31, 4:33 pm): I (Jordan) would only caution you to temper your excitement that the word ‘rumor’ was included for a reason. I can promise you K will be following up on this.

– UPDATE (12/31, 4:38 pm): Just a reminder, or refresher for those who may have missed it at the time, our guy Alex first brought you word of Murray’s potential interest in OU about two months back.

– UPDATE (1/1, 12:22 pm): A number of you are already aware but for those who are not, Josh Wariboko will no longer be announcing his commitment at Friday’s Under Armour All-American game. No word yet, following the change of plans, on an updated decision date.

Great Post! Perfect Timing! Thanks…I am really pumped about the upcoming weekend. BOOMER SOONER!

  • hOUligan says:

Obstacles are simply opportunities for us to learn, overcome and better ourselves. Hopefully, these guys see themselves and each other as the ones who have a chance to put a great program back where it belongs and make their mark. Boomer!!!

  • Chris Pedersen says:

Man it would be GREAT to have a backer tandem like Lehman and calmus again! With our d-line these guys would have some opportunities to clean some clocks

    • CastorTroyBoy says:

Nah I’m not down for the stoops crew…Calmus was solid, Good leader though but that slow kid would be exposed in today college game. Give me backers Bosworth, Dante Jones, Miami’s Armstead, who should have been a sooner, fast and physical!

      • Won says:

        Whoa CBT!
I gotta say that RC was a stud. I swear that the stadium crew had “Tackle by Rocky Calmus” on a recording so the PA guy didn’t have to keep repeating it on Saturdays

      • L'Carpetron Dookmarriot says:

I’ll take Calmus’ size and 40 at Mike LB, not OLB though. I’ll give you that. Lehman as an OLB, yes. He lacks a bit of COD speed, maybe.

Otherwise, yes, I’ll take some of the best LBs in history. You know, no big deal to get.

  • Cole says:

Last year was a rebuilding year and played like it wasn’t. I honestly am not surprised how they were this year. When you take key guys out, like Shannon, it’s going to show. OU didn’t have a real deep threat other than Shep and you can’t win games with one receiver. This whole team is young is going to improve. They might not win it all next year but think about this years class and 2014’s class will be in a few years. Everyone needs to stay positive.

    • Won says:

Not sure how it was rebuilding. After the Sugar Bowl there were plenty of high expectations. They may have been misplaced, but I never heard anyone say we were rebuilding.

  • CW says:

Anyword on how many scholarships we have left to fill?

  • blaster1371 says:

Doesn’t matter who comes in if Mike Stoops is calling the defense.

  • Jeff says:

So there is no chance OU brings in a QB for 2015??

  • Austin says:

Tcu is going to hammer Ole Miss.

  • Brian Glenn says:

If we could somehow flip Murray from A&M

  • jdub says:

The only coaches I read/hear about actively recruiting & forming relationships with kids are Montgomery, Bedenbaugh, Cale, & to a lesser degree, Bob. Occasionally, you might see something out of Norvell. Are the other coaches – Kish, BJW, Heupel, Mike, & Boulware – not good at it; don’t put the effort into it; only recruiting their position groups; etc.? At one point, BJW was highly thought of in recruiting b/c of all his relationships w/ TX high school coaches. Is that not the case anymore?

    • Stephen Dale says:

I surmise most of BJW’s high school connections are retired or deceased……….

    • Mysterio1 says:

Rumor is that BJW would rather golf these days. I hope they show him the door. Oklahoma needs aggressive coaches.

    • Indy_sooner says:

Boulware recruited the best kicker and long snapper in the country… Dude is fine

  • Cush Creekmont says:

Thanks for the good info. I always DVR the HS all star games so I only have to watch the OU commits plays and get to the announcements. The “game” as played is usually like pickup BB.

  • Won says:

I am really enjoying watching TCU.
Thanks for repping the Big (?) 12 Frogs!!!

  • SoonerFan11 says:

Monty needs a promotion and a raise…. The man is a rising star…..

    • Mustvid says:

Should be made co-defensive coordinator. I fear that we can lose him. I doubt he likes the scheme Mike plays. This guy wants his dline to attack.

      • Indy_sooner says:

Agreed. There was a sideline scuffle in 2014 where Mike was blowing up on Monty. Wonder what Mike thinks now..

  • Scott Ryan says:

I was watching the UA practices and they only have Ohio St and UCLA listed for Wariboko.

    • boomersooner says:

Sounds right. There is no journalism anymore. Its just agendizing. For some reason its sec first and then no OU second especially if we can’t sneak sec in there

    • Stephen Dale says:

most likely UCLA for Wariboko since the Bruins have offered the younger brother……..

  • Mike Reed says:

I just set my DVR for all the All America games. The U.S. Army All America game is at noon on the 3rd and not 3:00pm as listed.

  • Easton says:

SE what? Conference that thinks they’re the best. How about this TCU game. Best football all bowl season.

  • Mustvid says:

If you are a d tackle like Gallimore why would you want to play d end in a 3-4? This guy should be a 3 tech in a 4-3. No way I’d want to eat up blockers. I would want to attack the QB. This guy is much like McCoy.

    • Zack says:

We’re going to the 4-3 at some point in the next 2 years. As good as he is I bet he red shirts. He also may have knee surgery if they find out it’s more than his meniscus that is torn.

  • Brian Glenn says:

Is there anywhere I can watch film on Gallimore?

  • Scott18 says:

Randy Shannon to Florida? would love to have him on our staff.

  • Daddy R says:

“Mack Brown said #Oklahoma needs to remember what #Sooners were before Bob Stoops arrived.”

Mack Brown on #Oklahoma ‘s Bob Stoops: “In my estimation, they better be begging him to stay instead of griping.”

I mean Mack Brown said it, so it must be so…..EXCEPT that its not!

I guess to Mack, OU football is literally the 10 years before Bob’s arrival, and nothing more? Has Mack forgotten men named Switzer and Wilkinson? Hell, he worked for Switzer!

  • Lane Gilstrap says:

Last year was not supposed to be a rebuilding year. We had all the pieces for a championship caliber team. Every year we recruit very good wide receiver’s it just seems that we’re not developing them. I don’t really blame this years losses on the players. When you have an extremely close loss or two like we had this year I think that you’ve got a look at the coaching staff and you certainly have to look at the coaching staff whenever we come out and get annihilated at home. The playcalling has been awful the defenses schemes have been awful in the secondary unless there’s a change there’s nothing to necessarily look forward to other than more of the same. Expecting a different result without changing anything is insanity

    • SoonerfanTU says:

Last year meaning 2013? It was a bit of rebuilding year, starting a freshman QB.

      • Lane Gilstrap says:

        This year

        • SoonerfanTU says:

True, but I said before the season that we’d go as a team as TK went as our QB. TK wasn’t very good. That, and a young secondary that we knew would struggle some are what killed this team.

That said, we were a couple of missed kicks, and a bad decision to re-punt away from ending the regular season with 1 loss.

          • Boom says:

Been reading this from you for awhile. While true, I have one question. Why are these games even close? Is that what OU is at this point, just a team that has to make that one play to beat TCU or KSU. I’m an optimistic guy but watching them struggle just to keep it close is not the Sooners I know. I’m not expecting 50 – 0 scores but we should winning these games without sooner magic every week.

          • SoonerfanTU says:

Why, b/c we’re OU? They days of OU, or any school really, just loading up and pounding everybody they play is over. And there are a NUMBER of reasons for that. More talented HS players to spread around. Renewed committment from schools like Baylor, TCU, and others around the country. Even OSU. They’ve pumped a lot of money into their program. A different generation of kids. Kids that don’t always want to go to the OU’s and Bamas, play 2nd string for 2-3 years, before getting their chance. This generation wants to blaze their own trails. Other things matter more than history, or simply, which team is going to win the most games. Scholarship limitations. Offensive and defensive designs that are meant to help teams with limited talent compete with more talented teams.

The list goes on and on and on.

That TCU team is a pretty darn good team. Maybe one of the best 3-4 in the country. Baylor’s offense is certainly on that scale too.

In 2000 we beat KSU twice by a combined 13 points. We beat aTm by 4. Beat OSU by 5 only scoring 12 points, and needing to hold OSU out of the endzone from inside the 10 on the last plays of the game. And then, in the NC game, won only scoring 12 points. Does OU need to apologize for any of that? For playing KSU and OSU so close? Look back at some of Bama’s games. They’ve won some close ones over some bad/mediocre teams in recent years. Heck, Arkansas should have beaten them this year. Close games against good teams is a part of college football. And it’s only becoming a larger part, due to the stuff I mentioned above.

          • Boom says:

I’m not saying we go 13-0 every year, I get it too. However, there is a standard and OU has dropped off these expectations for the last 5-6 years. Why the hell is TCU & Baylor good, OU screwed up. OU leadership made bad decisions and didn’t do anything about it till it blew up.
There will always be close games here and there and we will slip up and get beat. However, it shouldn’t be because we are freaking clueless from the leadership standpoint.
I guess Bama is just one play better than all of their opponents.
I’m a fan of Bob, but hard decisions need to be made every year. He hasn’t done this until this humiliation.

          • SoonerfanTU says:

You really think Baylor and TCU are good b/c of something OU is doing wrong? Other than not beating them, thus giving those teams an additional loss, there is nothing OU isn’t doing. Sure, those schools are getting a few recruits that maybe OU would have gotten in the past, but I don’t think that is the overwhelming reason why. They have just improved. Just like TT was pretty good at one point with Leach. OU didn’t let that happen. OU didn’t let KU get good enough to make an Orange Bowl. KSU has had some pretty darn good teams over the years. I still think in 2000, that KSU team was probably the 3rd or 4th best team in the country. Unfortunate for them OU was better, and beat them twice. It wasn’t OU’s fault that KSU team was good.

The Big 12, IMO, is either the best or second best conference over the last 20-30 years. Probably all time, given current conference alignment. Of course there are going to be other good teams in the conference. And sometimes, those teams are going to beat OU.

You said you guessed Bama was just one play better than all of their opponents. That isn’t what I said. I was just pointing out that much like OU, Bama has been in some close games over the years as well, and not all of them were against “great” teams. Sure, good teams find a way to when those games. But the margin for error, or the margin between teams like that, has shrunk. OU isn’t as bad as we looked Monday night. If we were, we wouldn’t have been in a position to beat TCU and KSU. Add OSU to that list too. We just have to find a way to make those 1, 2, 3 additional plays per game, that turn close losses into wins. That is what Bama and FSU are doing recently, winning those games. That is what OU did from 2000-2008.

          • Boom says:

Here’s my point. OU did let some of it happen when they made some of their decisions. Kittle? One is to let JH be OC. It has been a downward trend since that time. We have no system like a KSU, Baylor, or TCU. Hell, were was TCU since they’ve been in Big 12. Patterson made hard decisions and went to a new offensive scheme with new coaches. OU, no, they didn’t make the hard decisions. Interesting, our “new” coaches, who are they recruiting compared to the others outside of Gundy. If we had made the right and hard decisions years ago, we would have better talent, scheme & results. Results in not having to make that one play for multiple games a year.
You make good points and we are on the same team but I at this point, players and coaches are not on same page. I know.

          • soonerbred4ever says:

He still hasn’t done anything. If he has done something, I’m not aware of it. Everything is all wishing and hoping right now.

Interesting, LSU’s DC goes to sec West rival A&M.
    http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/12103626/defensive-coordinator-john-chavis-heading-texas-aggies-lsu-tigers
Bet he likes riding in a copter.

    • SoonerfanTU says:

Bet Miles isn’t happy with this. He blows off Michigan advances (allegedly), and the LSU AD offers Chavis a pretty crappy extension in terms of the clause(s) that was in there.

      • EasTex says:

The coaching carousel is still spinning fast.

        • SamSooner says:

          OU better get on board.
What are your thoughts on Tyrone Nix? I had no idea he interviewed for the DC spot at OU in 2012.
I have friend who played HS football with my brother:Wesley McGriff. He was DC at Ole Miss. He’s with the Saints now. I know he is a great recruiter. He was the primary recruiter for Nkemdiche.

    • SamSooner says:

      Chavis?

    • Jim says:

This could have some MAJOR recruiting implications. Chavis is one of the best-known DCs in America. Don’t think for one minute that Daylon Mack and Malik Jefferson are ignoring this hire. I can promise you that announcement made a lot of butts pucker in Austin.

      • EasTex says:

Not necessarily a good analogy concerning Austin itself.
As for Texsa, their skivvies disappeared from the pucker factor.

      • CastorTroyBoy says:

Naw chief, trust me Charlie got that locked down….He’s built a strong relationship with their families already. Stop hoping for Texas demise. Saban Started out losing half his games his first year in Bama too. Don’t be go giddy…I bet wins 10 games next year with that redshirt frosh QB they have waiting in the wings…

  • EasTex says:

If we can get Gallimore I would do the Snoopy “Happy Dance.”

  • Zack says:

Either a&m’s PR guy or sumlin’s agent really wants people to believe sumlin is getting NFL offers. I can’t imagine he’s as hot of a commodity as he was 2 years ago. To be honest he wouldn’t be on the top ten list for me.

  • Stephen says:

Umm. I will take whoever is running this TCU defense right now.

  • Sooner Ray says:

Got a big day of making deer sausage ahead and a big night tonight so just in case I slip into a temporary coma, Happy New Year to everyone and I’ll see ya when I come up on the other side. Boomer!

      The man with the plan.
Did you harvest the deer or did Santa?
Santa gave me some Wagyu filets that will be on my plate tonight.

      Happy New Year!

      • Sooner Ray says:

It’s a group effort. Several deer and wild hogs, grind them all together and make the sausage. It’s a New Year’s day tradition.

        • EasTex says:

We always had a big Hog Killing Party on my grand parent’s farm in NW La when the first freezing spell blew in. Miss those good times.
There would be about 200 people from the farming community of all creeds and kids running around with pig tails all over the place.
The smoke house, which would pass for a one bedroom apt. in NYC, was bellowing smoke for days after the party.

    • EasTex says:

      OH and S000NER!

    • ToatsMcGoats says:

      Sooner! Happy New Year, Ray!

Back from the trip to the game…..that is all….

    • Easton says:

      Thanks for checking in. Regroup.

    • EasTex says:

Welcome home and Happy New Year.

      • Wilson says:

        Happy New Year Brother!

I tell ya..the defensive side of the ball actually played well except for a few gimmes. The offensive side of the ball was non existent. I had excellent seats about 6 rows up close to the forty right behind the team.

With every failing of the offense the defense’s body language changed. I felt bad for them.
As noted by many…Trevor is having serious issues going to his second read. There were many instances were his secondary receiver was running open or had single coverage, but he still through it to the receiver that was bracketed.

The receivers had lost all confidence in him by the time the half rolled around. Blake was open on several drag and seams but Trevor never looked his way

The Clemson Safeties are well schooled and have very good range, but we made it easy for them.

Thompson really handled their all American end, except when Josh decided to run stretch plays to his side, which was driving me nuts. That also put the OT and TE at a disadvantage Jordan Philiips and the rest of the D line pretty much handled their O line. Again the CB were put at a disadvantage, but when they were in 9 route man to man coverage they did well.
Safeties just couldn’t find the ball on the deep routes , but had already lost the position battle with bad footwork and route anticipation before the ball ever left the QB hand. Lots to correct…Like I told the Clemson fan behind me…”Your defense is good…but they aint that good” Glad to be home….

    • Bill Duncan says:

Bless you good man… bless you

  • SoonerfanTU says:

I know a lot of folks would look at schools like Ohio State and Florida
State and think…”but they’re in the playoffs and the Sooners just lost
to Clemson, OU can’t possibly stand a real chance here.”

Never understood that line of thinking from fans. That kids are simply going to go to the best school/team that offers them. That actually happens a small percentage of the time, when you look at recruiting as a whole.

    • Billy Jackson says:

Good point, and a great example of that is Tennessee. They seem to have no problem recruiting, and their record has been pretty bad. I know they’re in the SEC, but OU has a good enough pedigree to overcome a disappointing season.

If anything, this class seems to be one of the better ones in the past few years in spite of our losses. I just hope OU can finish strong.

  • Stephen says:

    Justin Martin commits to Tennessee.

  • Defend Colfax says:

42-3 and I hear one of the commentors say “It’s almost been as if TCU is the faster better team” Oh yeah?

    • Easton says:

‘Almost’? I heard that too. I said to myself ‘almost?’.

    • Easton says:

Brock Huard stopped drinking SEC-aid at about the first quarter over mark. First time I’ve heard a statement that corresponded with reality by an in-game ESPN commentator concerning matters of conference superiority.

    • SoonerfanTU says:

I had little doubt TCU would win that game IF they showed up to play. They are definitely the better team. Nonsense to watch this season and think otherwise.

  • Lane Gilstrap says:

Don’t offer Art Briles money…Just ask him what it will take and write the check.

  • Wilson says:

Has Boise won any important games since they beat us? I m beginning to think they are still going to be replaying that game in 2099!

  • Soonerlan says:

The announcers at the TCU game talked about how Patterson recruited that he recruited best athlete and coached them up and found a position for them .Thats how coach Switzer recruited .I know scholarship limits were different back then but still Clemson made us look slow just saying SPEED KILLS. I hope everybody on here has a Happy New Year

    Boomer Sooner

  • SCKSChief says:

What did I learn today? TCU is LEGIT and Boise is starting out vs. Arizona like they did against OU all those years ago. Weird how places like Boise can out-recruit OU…or at least get WAY more out of their guys than OU. Makes me sick.

    • Soonerfandave84 says:

Better evaluators and teachers? Coaching issues aren’t just game day related

    • boomersooner says:

Their schedule is a tad short. Comparing apples to toilet paper. Out recruiting us ain’t happening

      • SCKSChief says:

Apples to toilet paper? I’m watching this game WISHING OU had about four or five of Boise’s players. Seems they might be out-coaching AND out-recruiting right now. Did you WATCH this season? Any games? I really don’t want to hear about how well OU is recruiting right now. Outside of Perine, they sure didn’t show it.

        • Lesslie Stanford says:

I don’t think it is out recruiting as much as getting more out of their guys and better development. It helps that every game I have watched them play this year they have had a concise game plan not well we will try this and try that and if it doesn’t work we will start throwing fade routes.

        • BoomerDave says:

LOL!! 4-5 players you wish OU had! Almost every team in America has 4-5 players that could help OU or almost any team for that matter. Doesn’t mean they are recruiting us. Geez!

        • boomersooner says:

Oh man well if you don’t wanna hear about it by all means let’s just ignore it then. Yes I watched the season. Yes I saw Boise scuffle with a cake schedule

    • Mysterio1 says:

Boise State is a well coached football team.

  • Lane Gilstrap says:

Well as far as Jay Boulware goes we did great on ST last year and Horrible this year with the exception of Alex Ross.

    • SoonerfanTU says:

I think ST’s were extremely good, except for Hunnicut (not JB’s fault) and the punt return game (which I think was a Bob Stoops call, though I can’t say I fully understand that).

      • rphokc says:

…..I always wondered what, if any, shackles bstoops put on what boulware may have wanted to do in st’s…….

  • SoonerfanTU says:

Put me in the camp that losing Boulware wouldn’t be a good thing. I don’t blame him for the lack of TE play this year, and I think most of what he could control on ST’s was above average. He has also been the 2nd recruiter on a few of good recruits we’ve landed or have a shot at landing. Just don’t see this as a good thing.

    • Soonerfandave84 says:

I thought Bell was open quite a bit, just no one could find him or plays weren’t called for him. Think it was both.

    • thebigdroot says:

It has most definatly improved. Before he was hired OU’s ST were god awful. All you could do was hold your breath and hope for the best.

    • hOUligan says:

Agree but I am going to try and spin a positive here. Seems Boulware as a TE/ST coach came at the expense of separate OC and QB coach. Would be all for getting a guy that could be FT QB coach with a separate OC and have the TEs split time with the OL coach and the WR coach.

    • Mysterio1 says:

I never thought losing Sumlin was a big deal? I think he was under utilized while at OU. Same could be said for JB.
JH doesn’t know what a TE can do for a QB.

  • ellisbr says:

I know a list of OC and DC candidates have been put up somewhere on this site, just don’t remember where. Who out there is a legitimate option to replace our OC and DC that could get us going in the right direction?

  • Jeff says:

It is sad that Texass has already fired 2 while OU has done nothing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Will Narramore says:

Any idea when Campbell/McGinnis are committing and are we still feeling good about both of them?

  • bmrsnr says:

You guys hearing anything with the direction of the defense?

  • SCKSChief says:

Adding another good QB commit couldn’t hurt at this point…hope it pans out!

  • Joe says:

Adding Kyler Murray would be huge for the direction of the program. I watched Mr. Murray tear up Texas HS Football for the past three years and I can honestly say that he may be the greatest high school athlete in Texas history. 43-0, 3 rings. Get him in the right system, add the pieces around him, and OU just might get title #8. Right now, I would put him right behind Baker as the #1 QB heading into camp.

    • Zack says:

Not having watched him in HS I would still put him ahead of baker. 4 years eligibility > than 2 years. And I don’t think mayfield is a huge upgrade over knight.

      • Daddy R says:

Right. I’m a little confused why so many are so high on Mayfield. I mean, he was/is a walk-on for goodness sake. Did he show some flashes as a freshman in a QB friendly system? Sure he did, but that doesn’t mean he is golden, and guaranteed to translate that potential into a consistent reality… though it sure would be nice if he did.

        • Joe says:

I’m not high on him either, but I’m willing to give him the benefit of being in the program for one year. I don’t care who the recruit is, it takes time to get acclimated to the college lifestyle. Now if we get Kyler, he does well in camp, and starts Day 1, then kudos to him.

      • BoomerDave says:

I feel that Mayfield is a huge upgrade. He seems to have the “it” factor. Coach Merv said the exact same thing on the REF a couple of weeks ago.

        • EasTex says:

With Murray, he has the IT factor.
I have never seen anyone play his position with such dynamism or skill…EVAH!
In Allen’s semi-final game against Skyline they trailed by 17 points midway through the 3rd qtr. Murray put the entire team on his shoulders and carried them to the win, they scored 5 TDs while shutting out Skyline the rest of the way. He would take them on a 3 play 86 yd drive, go sit by himself away from every body like a pitcher in the zone with a no-hitter, go back in 2 plays 75 yds TD and rinse and repeat.

          • JJSoona says:

Wow that’s high praise coming from you EasTex.

          • EasTex says:

            And I mean it.
I am not prone to gush, but ever since I saw him in his first state championship game as a 15 year old soph, I started calling him the “baby faced killer.” He got better, bigger and stronger each and every year.
Here are high lights of his soph state championship, his first of three consecutive Offensive MVP awards in the highest level of Texas high school football.

      • D'Brickashaw Ferguson says:

Murray would be the starter from day 1. Not even gonna get my hopes up about it, though

    • BoomerDave says:

Living in OK, I’ve only gotten to watch him play a few times on TV. However I was very impressed and did hear announcers say that he was probably the greatest player in Texas HS history. Fingers crossed!!

    • Won says:

“Get him in the right system”

  • SamSooner says:

Wow!!! Getting Murray would be huge. This kid could win the position and open up a whole new dynamic for our offense. Can you imagine Murray, Perine, Mixon, and Ford in the same backfield?

Chivers up and down my spine.

    • BoomerDave says:

And the receivers who could follow like Lodge.

    • Austin says:

The opposing defenses would be terrified until they looked up into the box and saw josh heupel calling plays.

    • Daddy R says:

And Rodney Anderson. Though I’d imagine he might very well redshirt seeing how loaded the backfield is..

      • Indy_sooner says:

Man, that is loaded. Any of the 4 backs starts in D1 schools.
But I doubt RA redshirts…Gundy will let the best play no matter what. It’s what makes him so good…the Kid will get playing time if they put in work.

    • hOUligan says:

Getting a legit star at QB like Murray would be a game changer. I’m going to try and not even think about it. Setting up for huge disappointment.

    • Indy_sooner says:

Sadly I had the same expectations last year with all or recivers. I am tapering all expectation till I see it next fall and we beat Baylor, KSU, OSU and TCU (wait did we lose to all these guys?! Argh! FU BS!)
Landing a great class would definitely make the off season a lot more palatable

  • RBear says:

    Murray film?

  • Mizuno44 says:

That’s what makes this site awesome, credible news from guys who know football and have connections. Will be exciting over the next week to see what happens, keep us updated you bunch of gurus!

  • Bo Nichols says:

I can’t wait for JH to turn Murray into a pocket passer!!

  • Jason Vos says:

If we get Murray, we need a new OC its that simple

  • Daddy R says:

Anyone think this Murray flipping rumor was started by his agent, just trying to get A&M to pony up more dough?

  • Mark slavin says:

    Justin Martin committed to Tennessee.

  • Jay Bigboy says:

    Switch please switch

  • SamSooner says:

Which OU commits are there with him? They need to get to work.

  • CDC says:

Kids got wheels, that’s for sure.

  • lovethemsooners says:

Any insight on Michigan possibly being interested in Coach Monty? I’ve heard those rumors too.

    • CastorTroyBoy says:

I don’t like the odds if Harbaugh comes after him…We should be trying to poach from Bama’s or Fsu staff also! I hope we don’t have that Fat man Boren leading this search for assistants?? We are truly faaacked then!

    • D'Brickashaw Ferguson says:

      Uh-oh… Where’d you hear that?

    • Zack says:

I’m not sure that harbaugh would be looking to recycle old Michigan coaches under rich rod or brady joke. So I would think monty is safe and if OU had to I’m sure they could give monty a promotion where harbaugh is probably looking for one of his old guys at dc.

      • blaster1371 says:

Would also think he’d hire some of his SF staff since the usual case is a new HC usually brings in his own people.

  • bjwalker82 says:

All of this about Murray is fine and good, but if you don’t have someone to COACH him up then wtf does it matter?

    • blaster1371 says:

      Bingo!

    • Stephen Dale says:

:Murray is a ‘throw back’ QB in the mode of Jamielle Holieway. Excellent quickness and dangerous runner but NOT a pure passing QB like Sam Bradford. Murray heaves the ball in hopes it will be caught but hasn’t displayed the arm strength of a Bradford or Landry Jones and actually be accurate…Is Murray a guy who can run the ‘read-option offense” ?/ He has the feet for it . Can Murray run a ‘pro-set” offense ? NO. He is less than 6’0″ and does not possess the arm strength. IF OU wants to run a ‘read-option’ offense, Murray would probably be a good candidate–if, in fact, he opts out of aTm…..

      • Indy_sooner says:

Have you watched the tape? I was with you until you laid the jibberish on his arm strength. Also, I could care less on the height…this kid has IT. The way I see it, heupel screwed with 2 perfectly good pro style qbs in Bell and Jones and just screwed 2 perfectly good dual threats in CT and knight. As long as he is not developing QBs period, it means didly squat whether we have manning at the helm. If we get him, I hope he gets the right OC to takes him further

  • Shelby is a Patriot says:

I think we all hope it ends up being more than just a rumor! Getting Kyler Murray would be awesome. Even if the situation at OC isn’t pretty, we still need to bring in great recruits.

  • Stephen says:

So…BJW is unofficially, officially gone now? Announcement tomorrow, probably Friday?

    • ToatsMcGoats says:

Where did you hear it from? I hate to say it, but I hope it’s true…

      • Stephen says:

Just a rumor from an OK source. I was more or less asking if heard the same. I guess we will see pretty soon if they are correct at all.

  • D'Brickashaw Ferguson says:

247sports’s Demetric Warren (who’s often correct) just switched Kyler Murray’s prediction from TAMU to OU!

  • OU ON MY MIND says:

I really hope that JH is gone, at least demoted back to QB coach. We need an experienced OC to come in and implement his system. OU is not the type of program to learn on the job.

  • ToatsMcGoats says:

I think Murray could be a phenomenal player…if he has a good coach. His mechanics leave a lot to be desired, and the way he carries the ball when he’s running just drives me crazy. There were several throws that weren’t put in the best spot, but his deep ball did seem to improve as the season progressed, and his escapability is just ridiculous. I don’t know anything about QB’s…this is just my humble opinion. If we can get a full time QB coach, I can’t wait to have him on campus. If not…well…

  • Mark slavin says:

Saw on 247 crystal ball 2 of the national guy’s pick Justin Reid to Ou. Have any of the brainiacs heard anything New?

  • nicjams says:

Watching Georgia Tech’s offense is fun… Maybe OU should install the triple option? Fun to think about

    • Katyboomer says:

Should have been GT ball was a fumble

    • JJSoona says:

Oh yeah, Kenny King, Sims…. Switzer smoking on the sideline……….vintage.

    • EasTex says:

With the RBs we have? O.M.G.

      • nicjams says:

Indeed, plus, Trevor would probably be a good option QB. A la Eric Crouch…

        • EasTex says:

I agree mechanically, physically I don’t think he could hold up.

          • nicjams says:

Maybe not, fun to think about though

          • EasTex says:

I do believe that after TK’s neck injury he is either afraid or has lost confidence. Don’t know what the future holds for that young man. He’s one of the good guys, but I think his playing days are over.

          • blaster1371 says:

I’m with you on all of that. He is quick and fast but he’d get ground to dust getting hit in the option game. I too think his future playing days at OU are uncertain. I think it’s pretty clear he won’t be the starter going into fall practice. I can see him graduating early and taking his last year somewhere else, if he decides to continue playing football.

          • eastoksooner says:

He is definitely one of the good guys…wish him the best and know that God has a plan for his life much bigger than football. Tough when the good ones get the bad brakes but God will see him through.

          • EasTex says:

            I agree.
Sometimes God shows us the way through adversity and prayer.
He sure came through for me that way.

          • eastoksooner says:

Me too. I met Jesus through adversity and now follow Him out of love, because He first loved and gave His life for me (and all of us)

          • paganpink says:

Yep. Remember option quarterbacks to do it right have to wait until the last possible second sometimes to pitch. Resulting in them getting absolutely DRILLED at times. It’s hard to imagine Trevor Knight holding up to that pounding at all. He gets hurt about every third play where he is actually tackled, it seems to me. There’s no way.

    • JJSoona says:

      Elvis Peacock

  • JJSoona says:

Dayuummm, TCU beat Ole Miss like a rented mule!!

  • blaster1371 says:

Hansen was being pursued by a and m too. Is there no excitement over Hansen? I know he was hurt much of his senior year but the guy was heavily recruited by several notable programs.

    • EasTex says:

I think with Hansen it is an ‘out of sight-out of mind’ situation.
We shall see how he does in the spring.

    • Zack says:

Did hansen win 30-40 something games? And 2 or 3 state titles?

      • blaster1371 says:

I dont know. I remember there being a lot of excitement when he committed to OU. He enrolled early and played some in the spring game. I hope he got some real work in during the season practices since mayfield was supposedly running the scout offense.

    • Steve Johns says:

After a player is recruited, people forget about him. I believe he’ll make a solid push for the starting job.

    • SoonerfanTU says:

I thought I remember reading that he had a nice upside, but was REALLY raw. And that was why he was a good fit for OU, b/c we thought we had guys in front of him that would start until Hansen was a Jr/Sr.

I really don’t see him as a factor at QB next year. At this point, I think it’s Mayfield, TK, or somebody like Murray/Braxton.

  • EasTex says:

Glad the games start early tomorrow.

  • CastorTroyBoy says:

Just got back from Landthieves, Unbelievable…Those Cowardly lions are making every excuse in the world to keep mike but hanging Josh out to dry is okay??? I’m not a big fans of the stoops bros..I must admit but if they had coached up these players better over the past 5 yrs or so..I’d be okay with all this nepotism. Just sick and tired of bringing out old retreads. As a assistant you should have to prove yourself right away. I’m coach, first thing first..Whats your past recruiting territory? Whose your contacts, track record of those you recruited and how did they perform. I’m studying film tape after tape of players that you coached.etc. I also talking to media types in those areas that tracked your recruitment of said players to find out how you “closed” or didn’t….

    • kt-raida says:

How about we try this for one negative post you have to say something positive. People would take your opinions seriously around here if you didn’t act like you were here just to tick someone off.

  • JJSoona says:

If Mike would coach a scheme he knows/loves and just be Mike without the temper stuff towards players, we’d see a vastly improved D.

  • CastorTroyBoy says:

JJ Soona going back even to 2003 one of our top DB’s was telling folks after entering the draft, he just was not feeling Stoops heavy-handedness anymore! Too much screaming and in your face shenanigans. The team started totune him out. One of the reasons I believe he left for Arizona. The players were not listening to the coaches with the same attention to detail any longer. The same has been happening since he’s been back!

  • CastorTroyBoy says:

We have got to get coaches in here these players will “run thru a brick wall for”…

  • EasTex says:

It just occurred to me, after seeing the Orange Bowl promo during time outs they keep showing highlights from Orange Bowl history. Not one highlight includes OU, OU the team that represented the Big 8 more times than any other team, that won how many times there including MNCs. No Keith Jackson TD, no J.C. Watts(two time Orange Bowl MVP), but they did show Colorado.
We know who you are, espn, and we don’t like you right back.

    • Easton says:

They are going to realize they lost their credibility after everyone else has. Brent has lost his marbles in the brainwash agenda.

      • EasTex says:

As deep as their pockets are, they must think they are beyond reproach.

        • Easton says:

          The deceptiveness of wealth.

        • Wilson says:

          Yep. “To big to fail”

I still find it interesting that when an SEC team is getting their head handed to them, that the tone is much different than when they are doing the wupping. Almost like they are depressed. The only recruit they mentioned for the UA practice was Seibert that was thinking about or comitted to OU.

          • Easton says:

I know man. I have become so keenly aware of all the subtle, and subversive, attacks on the game itself in the way this organization treats the SEC.

          • EasTex says:

It’s tough on those goofs to go off script. LOL!

    • W0ND3RM4N11 . says:

While watching the Under Armour All America practice the announcers mentioned Wariboko and beneath his name they had written: “Considering: UCLA, Ohio State, and Oklahoma St.” Interestingly enough, Oklahoma was not present on the list, a team he said was in his top three.

      • EasTex says:

        That was on espn?
Consider the source, they will do anything not to mention OU. The Sugar Bowl butt-hurt is still strong with that bunch.

  • Mysterio1 says:

    Who is recruiting this Murray?

    • Easton says:

There is a good question. We still have prestige at the O, but there are some coaches staying close I would guess.

    • EasTex says:

Rivals doesn’t show who, but interestingly it shows the only official visit he has taken was to OU on 17 Oct 14. That was the day before KSt and according to the Allen Football site his team had an open date that day.
      http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/player-Kyler-Murray-138389

      • Zack says:

If I were stoops I would tell this kid if he enrolled early then he is guaranteed the job. If he can’t enroll early I would tell him to come beat everyone and the job is his. A&m can’t do that.

        • EasTex says:

I haven’t heard any mention that he is an early graduate.
IMHO, based on watching him for nearly 3 years, not only is he a gifted QB, his competitiveness and pure will to win is amazing. I strongly believe that wherever he goes he will start as a true freshman.

          • Mike Reed says:

Wherever Murray goes, he’s going to have to be taught to quit holding the ball like a loaf of bread when he runs. He slings that thing all around. He can get away with that on the high school level, but in college he’ll put the ball on the turf many times. Although not big, the kid sure looks like the real deal. Good arm and super fast. Hope Stoops can sway him to Norman.

          • Gary Jackson says:

Holding that ball like that, kinda puts me in mind of Greg Pruitt.

          • EasTex says:

Yep and the best ankle breaker of all-time, Go Joe.

  • Easton says:

This GT QB is something incerdible. After watching Murray’s film on this post, I can see the potential of such speed and intelligence in this showing by Justin Thomas.

  • EasTex says:

    Wait a minute.
Y’all remember a while back there was some super-secret recruit on campus that no one could say who it was? I wasn’t that concerned about it then, but could Murray have been that visitor?
I don’t recall anything officially being said about who it was, but after seeing that Murray’s only official was to OU, it sets me to wondering.
Anyone recall an announcement that Murray was making an official to OU back in October?

    • eastoksooner says:

I do remember the secret recruit but not much else Tex. I can’t remember what I had for breakfast anymore.

      • EasTex says:

        HA!
        Sadly for me, I don’t forget s*@t.

        • eastoksooner says:

So where in east Texas? I go fishing every year at Lake Fork, about 30 min south of Sulphur Springs.

          • EasTex says:

Live in Dallas, grew up in Marshall and my soul resides at Caddo Lake.

          • eastoksooner says:

I have fished there before. Stayed in Uncertain, TX. Cool lake with all the cypress tress and spanish moss. A man could get lost there pretty easy though.

          • EasTex says:

All the channels are marked with signs. You should try going out at night checking trot lines on Caddo. Gets your attention.

          • eastoksooner says:

Yeah I bet. Definitly would stay on point especially with the gators around.

          • EasTex says:

The gators aren’t any trouble, they have such a diverse diet with all the fish and birds I don’t recall any human interactions gone badly. We do steer clear during nesting season, though.

          • eastoksooner says:

We don’t have gators around here so anytime I’m at a place that has them, they surely get my respect. I fell out of the boat once when a gator was in sight and did my best Jesus impersonation of walking on water.

          • EasTex says:

            Didn’t you see Apocalypse Now?
Never get out of the boat!

          • eastoksooner says:

Didn’t mean to! Hit a stump and just went overboard.

          • EasTex says:

I’m always watching the moss, hate it when a cotton mouth decides to drop in the boat…hate it!!!

          • eastoksooner says:

Yeah..more scared of them then gators.

          • EasTex says:

Same here and there are some huge ones on Caddo.
Pulled up to a pier in a canoe with a friend and we thought what we saw on the pier was a big turtle. As we climbed up on one side on the other side we saw the last 3-4 feet of a moccasin that was as big around as my arm. We were not pleased.

          • eastoksooner says:

          • paganpink says:

Walked up on one in an outdoor cage in a rural area near Noble Oklahoma one time with a UPS driver I was with. Huge Bengal tiger. Scared the crap out of me. Didn’t scare him at all. They stare at you unblinkingly and you realize you aren’t something that they fear. I started worrying about the strength of the home made steel bars some meth head or something had welded together that looked like it was only keeping him in there until he had a reason to leave, if you know what I mean. Very scary up that close outside a zoo environment with an animal that big and dangerous.

          • EasTex says:

Learned long ago, never run from a big cat…EVAH.
Cats are magnificent creatures and perfect predators.

They were just setting up to film that movie in the Philippines a few months before my return to CONUS. Many of us thought we might get parts as extras, but then the evac of Viet Nam began and there was no play time available.

I know I’ll be watching the All-American game on Saturday, start to finish.

    • Austin says:

I don’t recall an official announcement of him taking an ov to ou, but it seems like I did see a picture of him, Joshua Mcmillon (bama lb commit), and one other recruit taken before the game. Looked like the pic was taken maybe somewhere in the Switzer center.

      • EasTex says:

        Hunh!
I don’t remember that at all, at least not here.

        • Austin says:

I’ll see if I can’t dig that picture up.

          • EasTex says:

            Alrighty, then.

          • eastoksooner says:

I think Murray visited the K State weekend

          • EasTex says:

Which is why I asked, I just don’t remember him visiting. He committed to the gAggies in May and for the longest time I thought that was the end of it.

          • Austin says:

This is the only one I can find.. It’s Kyler and Steele walker, one of the ou baseball commits, apparently they are really good friends. Kyler also tweeted about being at ou the weekend of the k state game so even though you can only see the back of his head, I promise it’s him.

          • EasTex says:

            Alrighty, thanks.
Doesn’t it seem odd that he committed to A&M and made an official to OU five months later?
Guess we will find out when he signs.

          • Austin says:

No problem. Does seem a little odd, hopefully come signing day he’s faxing his letter of intent to Norman, Oklahoma!

They are not doing so well.

  • leatherneck1061 says:

SEC going down in flames…..again. Now, if Bama doesn’t win out like the experts expect, what are the chances the talking heads at ESPiN actually consider the possibility the SEC was overrated this year??

    Yeah, I know…..I know….

    • Easton says:

Flames. Again. And, noone in the CBS/ESPN worlds will fess up and say something so outrageous as SEC overrated.

    • Zack says:

If bama loses you can expect Danny cannel to be canned. He has stated his personal belief that the sec isn’t that good.

They will continue to feed the monster. The more money they pour into covering the sec, the more likely the sec will succeed.

  • Easton says:

“And atleast for a week or two we won’t have to hear anything about the SEC” quote Paul Johnson, final words of the Orange Bowl. Man they wanted to try to edit that out.

  • Easton says:

  • JD says:

Wonder if the BorenStoops meeting after the season and rumors of three coaches gone had any impact on bowl prep…If I were one of those coaches and knew I was fired then I might not have the energy to do my job at the highest level and most focus…if this is really true then this blowout is all on Boren…you have these types of meetings after the season…bowl season..I see coaches leaving for another gig but that is dif than wondering where your next job will be and where you and your family will be living next…our guys def didn’t have the enthusiasm and focus to play at our level of play…rant over lol

    • EasTex says:

Could be. Can’t rule out lack of motivation by coaches.
The first thing I thought when Hayes, Striker and Thomas had the first pass play perfectly defended and the guy ran past them was…”you play like you practice.”
They weren’t ready to play…period. Too many walk throughs, too many reps to develop younger players and not the starters.
The turnovers, missed tackles, penalties that either took points off the board or gave the Tigers another chance to score. It was a total team effort, coaches and players.

    • JB says:

      No.

People are either good at their jobs or they are not. If they are hard workers they want to put the best product on the field every time, perhaps more so if they are worried about job security, especially as an audition for a new employer. A meeting between Boren isn’t the reason for the blowout. The causes of the blowout aren’t hard to see, and it’s been hashed and re-hashed over and again here. Poor coaching, poor game preparation, poor game-time decisions, lack of talent/recruiting, and overall poor leadership.

That’s on Bob. We need not make excuses for him. He is wearing this one all the way because he has done a substandard job as a coach for several years now. The results of this season are merely the output that you receive when your input is poor. It’s no more complicated than that.

    • rphokc says:

my impression but found it interesting, perhaps telling………seconds before kickoff, the telecast showed bstoops pacing the sideline enthsiastically clapping trying to get the players revved up…….he turned to a group in front of him, continued clapping and talking encouragement and these players just stood there a few seconds then half-heartedly started clapping…….I thought then that these players are not in this

garrick mcgee or seth littrel as the new OC has a nice ring to it

    • JB says:

I think we need to stop worrying about whether a coach has OU ties like Garrick or Seth. They may be fine coaches, but I’m still in the Sonnie Cumbie camp.

  • blaster1371 says:

All this talk of adding a QB (Murray ) to this class makes me think that one current QB may not be on the roster next season. Is it common to have five scholarship QBs on the roster when all have two or more seasons of eligibility left?

I have been intrigued by Thomas as his HS film indicates him being more of a passer than knight but more athletic than Bradford, White or Bell.

  • soonerjunky says:

What are the chances Knight moves to safety? Oregon recruited him as a DB.

  • Travis Coyle says:

    Norvell, wright, Kish fired

    • SoonerinLondon says:

Norvell leaving would be the best chance of making a change with JH. I don’t think JH goes anywhere or gets demoted, but replacing Norvell with another co-OC could change the offense and would be an easy way to change play-calling responsibility. It would get a new OC without firing or demoting JH, which would probably make BS and Boren happy.

Can’t say, but its coming out to the news soon.

        • Stephen says:

Better question, is it a reliable source?

          • Travis Coyle says:

Yes. I took the other stuff down. I’m not sure if recruits know yet.

          • Jeremy Phillips says:

timing seems odd… unless they have replacements at the ready… bob usually doesn’t make these kind of moves until after NLI day…

          • JD says:

not really…depends on who the coaches are…Norvelle doesn’t really have a stellar class coming and the juco is already signed…Kish’s only guy is said that Monty was the reason…and BJW was recruiting w Bob and BJW said if you have any more question this is your db coach (talking about Bob)….that’s if those are the three rumored to be gone…if so then make it happen fast…get another guy in here to clean up for those positions

          • SoonerinLondon says:

I think BJW moves to a recruiting or player personnel role

          • JD says:

            Me too

          • Travis Coyle says:

            Time is obviously right

          • soonerbred4ever says:

I think it would be stupid to not tell recruits what’s going on. Tell them this guy will be moving on and here’s who we have in mind for a replacement. Hang with us and we will get you a great coach.

          • EasTex says:

Absolutely, as soon as the new coach/es are introduced, they need to be ushered to their office/s, given a list of recruits to contact with instructions not to leave until they have talked to everyone or their coach/parents.

          • Travis Coyle says:

Well I wanted the coaching staff to tell them first is what I meant. Instead of finding out on here

          • Zack says:

I think this is in regards to the smoke that TFB tweeted about yesterday

    • SoonerinLondon says:

      Linkypoo?

    • JB says:

Well, if Mike Stoops isn’t gone, then we’re going to be in for hard times again next season unless he has a radical shift in defensive philosophy. Hard to expect that to happen, just like it is hard to expect Bob to fire his brother…which reaffirms my belief that Bob is ultimately the problem. He isn’t hiring the best man for the job, but instead continues to employ his brother. You can’t expect different results when you keep making the same mistakes.

  • Stephen says:

Hey everyone, I just wanted to pass along that I had to take my dad to the hospital this morning for an unknown illness. He’s resting in the ICU in better condition but he’s not out of the woods by any means. Just wanted to ask that keep him and my family in your thoughts or prayer which ever you prefer. I would appreciate it a lot.

  • Lesslie Stanford says:

Is it possible that this may be the most talented group of True Freshman running back in one class ever? Petrine, Chubb, Fournette, Cook. And I am sure I am missing some as well.

  • Andrew says:

K, Jordan or anybody else. I have been wondering who are the realistic targets that are left on OU’s board? How many more scholarships do they have left?

    • Zack says:

      17 commits so far.

22 seniors are leaving but I’m not sure if all are on scholarship. Then phillips, smith, woods, mcnamara and maybe more will be gone. Such as DGB, tapper, a qb, onuahu? May have a chance to return but maybe not and same with shannon. I’ve been guessing 27 will be available. So 10 left.

I would ask gary to list the guys we have good shots or are in their top 3.

From what I’m reading we have a good chance to add wariboko, lampkin, dalton, Orr, Reid, wheeler, McKee, gallimore, neal, Campbell, Daniels, barnett(back up plan)

      • EasTex says:

I’m not counting any player gone until it is official.

        • Andrew says:

It seems like there is some direction to this recruiting class (defence). I was just wondering if OU is gonna finish on a positive note. Especially because a young player could come in and immediately make an impact. A kid like Gallimore could come in and fill in nicely. I know it is rumor, but a kid like Murray could come in and start depending on the development of Justice Hansen.

      • Andrew says:

I think that would be nice to see a list like this. There is so much BS out there, It is hard to believe anything.

Ok….here is the game I have been waiting for. I figured the FSU UO game would be a blowout either way. This one should be fun… I lot of hard hitting…just what the doctor ordered for this old LB. • ccmosaic says:

I will not post the information here due to the fact it comes from a paid site and I want to be respectful to the site, but an article from Carey just came out and it sounds like there are a lot more problems at OU than simply making some coaching changes.

    • bmrsnr says:

      don’t let them play you

      • connie usa says:

        Agreed. What could Carey say?
It ALL comes from the coaches. They either can’t coach/develop, or they can’t recruit.

    • Zack says:

I think it will all come out by Monday is what I’ve been hearing but carey did his site a solid by trying to be first. We will see if his stuff checks out.
I still respect tfb for not trying to be first but for waiting for the right moment. This site is built on being respectful toward all parties.

    • SoonerinLondon says:

What could be bigger than coaching changes?

    • Jeremy Phillips says:

I’ve read changes may include Schmidt… which would say a lot…
