The Path to Norman

Joshua Ellison, a Texas native, had a relatively short recruiting experience with the Sooners. After starting college in the JUCO ranks at Blinn College, he was committed to Texas A&M until December, 2019; then, OU entered the picture. Ellison decommitted from the Aggies, received an offer from Oklahoma, took a visit to Norman, committed to the Sooners, and signed all within the span of two weeks.

Career so Far

Ellison immediately made an impact in his first season with the Sooners as a rotation player. The lineman played in all 11 games, starting in two of them, and ranked fourth among linemen in tackles.
In 2021, Ellison was again in heavy rotation on the defensive line, playing in all games and making four starts.

This Season

Josh Ellison, along with the rest of the defensive line, has a fresh start in 2022. New Sooner Coach Todd Bates will be leading the defensive line this season. While there are plenty of talented options, extensive experience is relatively low for the group. Jalen Redmond and newcomer Jeffery Johnson will likely be the leaders in the interior. After them, Ellison will be in a group including Isaiah Coe, Jordan Kelley, and Kori Roberson that will all contribute. Ellison’s 24 games played will help push him forward among that group. Sooner fans will be watching the defensive line as closely as any position in 2022, hoping to see Ellison and the rest of the group have a big season.
