The Path to Norman
Gentry Williams came to OU as a very highly-ranked defensive back in the 2022 class. A Tulsa product, Williams and the Sooners circled each other for years. Williams suffered an ACL injury in his junior season, but came back strong for his senior season. Many top programs recruited the young man, including USC, Florida, Michigan, and Georgia. OU landed a commitment the fall before his signing day, but had to stick with him through interest from other schools and a coaching change. The Sooner state ended up keeping Williams home to play.

In Williams’ first season on campus, he played in all games but one. In his limited action, he showed extreme promise and excited Sooner fans with his coverage.

This Season
Williams had to miss the bulk of spring camp this year. However, he has worked hard and his natural talent is hard to ignore. Woodi Washington returns and will start on one side. While the other side has been a battle all offseason, it has appeared more and more than Williams will be the starting corner for game one. In just his second year at OU, Williams could be a big part of the defense for Oklahoma.
