100 Days to Football Time in Oklahoma: #66 Robert Congel

The Path to Norman

Robert Congel took a winding path to arrive in Norman. A lineman who played his senior season of high school football at IMG Academy, Congel started his college career in College Station playing for Texas A&M. After just one season, in which he saw action in five games, Congel transferred to Arizona, sitting out for one season. He was a main piece of the offensive line in two seasons with Arizona, starting in eight games in 2019 and all five games in 2020. Congel played all over the line, seeing action at left guard, right guard, and center. In January, the big man transferred to OU.

This Season

The offensive line has a lot of competition in 2021. The presumed interior starters are Marquis Hayes and Tyrese Robinson at guard, resuming their starting roles from 2020, and Andrew Raym at center, although Chris Murray is certainly a big factor at center as well. Congel is a wildcard here; with playing time all over the line, Coach Bedenbaugh will be able to use him wherever a need presents itself. A starting spot will be a tall order, but Sooner fans should expect to see the experienced lineman on the field frequently this fall.
