100 Days to Football Time in Oklahoma: #61 Ian McIver

The Path to Norman

A walk-on player from Texas, Ian McIver has lots of OU ties. Former Sooner Reggie Barnes coached a youth football team that McIver and Barnes’ son, and former OU safety Robert, played on. McIver said that he went to a game with Barnes once and was immediately hooked. For more on his journey, check out this NewsOK article: Walk-on: Ian McIver

Career so Far

Ian took a redshirt season in 2017 and did not play in 2018.

McIver played in five games in 2019. He provided a nice backup at center behind Creed Humphrey, with Coach Bedenbaugh specifically mentioning Ian as a player the staff was excited about.

He played a similar role in 2020, once again playing center in a reserve role in five games.

This Season

The center spot sees turnover this season for the first time in a few years. Andrew Raym and Chris Murray are the two main competitors for the starting role. However, McIver’s experience  will allow Coach Bedenbaugh the comfort of solid depth at the spot and the potential to switch Raym or Murray to the guard position. In his final season in Norman, McIver will continue to be a dependable part of the OU offensive line.
