The Path to Norman

Makari Vickers was a top-100 recruit in the highly-ranked 2023 OU recruiting class. A defensive back out of Florida, Vickers had offers from many top programs around the country. His top three included the Sooners, Michigan, and Alabama, with the Tide in particular a big threat in his recruitment. Vickers visited Norman for the Party at the Palace event at the end of July in 2022; while there, he made his decision to join OU. A month later, he announced his commitment to play for Oklahoma.

Highlights

This Season

Vickers has started his college career at cornerback. As fall camp progressed, his name was mentioned more and more frequently. Woodi Washington will start at one corner spot, with a battle at the other. Vickers is in the group battling for the other spot, although Gentry Williams seems to be the leader. While he likely won’t be the game one starter, Vickers absolutely has the talent to be a factor at corner in year one with the Sooners.
