The Path to Norman

LV Bunkley-Shelton was a highly-ranked receiver in the 2020 class. He played high school football in California and had offers from plenty of Pac-12 schools, along with Ohio State, Florida, and none other than OU. There wasn’t much traction at the time, and Bunkley-Shelton signed with Arizona State. There, he played in all games but one over the next two seasons. After the 2021 season, the receiver entered the transfer portal and was one of many transfers to join the new staff at Oklahoma.

Career so Far

The 2020 season was a short one for Arizona State (four games), but Bunkley-Shelton played in all four games. In 2021, he played in 12 games and ranked third on the team in receiving yards. He was also a factor in the punt return game for the Sun Devils.

After the 2021 season, LV entered the transfer portal. He has had a friendship with former player and current assistant Jeremiah Criddell for many years, which helped him in his decision to join the Sooners shortly before the summer.

Highlights

This Season

The 2022 OU receiver room has a mixture of returning experience and new faces. Bunkley-Shelton is primarily seen as an inside receiver, where Marvin Mims and Drake Stoops will be the biggest factors. However, he could also line up outside to make use of his talent. Additionally, he was worked at returner over the offseason and seems likely to be used on special teams. On a team full of new transfers, LV is one Sooner fans will likely be seeing consistently in 2022.
