The Path to Norman

Savion Byrd played high school football in Texas. He was a highly-rated offensive lineman in the 2021 class with offers from many programs, including Alabama, Auburn, Texas, and LSU. Byrd made his way to Norman for the Sooner Summit in the fall of 2020, which seemed to seal the deal. He waited a few more months, but committed to the Sooners in the winter of 2020.

Byrd took a redshirt season in 2021; he did, however, earn playing time in two games to gain experience.

Highlights

This Season

Savion Byrd appears to have had a nice offseason and is in a good position for playing time in 2022. Anton Harrison is expected to start at left tackle with Wanya Morris at right. Byrd has been working behind Harrison with Aaryn Parks behind Morris. Byrd should earn plenty of playing time as a backup this season. The offensive line will see a large amount of turnover following 2022; with a good year, Byrd can make an early statement this season for the starting job in 2023.
