The Path to Norman
Marquis Hayes knew that Norman was the right place for him very quickly. He was offered in July, 2016 and committed within the week. Hayes played a big part in the recruitment of fellow Missouri native Ronnie Perkins.
Career so Far
Hayes took a redshirt season in 2017. In 2018, he appeared in 3 games in a reserve role at guard.
2019 was a big year for Hayes. Much of the line hosted new faces after a mass exodus to the pros in the spring. Enter several young guys, including Hayes. After missing the South Dakota game with injury, he started all of the 13 other games. Outside of Creed Humphrey, Hayes may have had the most consistent season on a line that had its ups and downs, although his propensity for drawing flags certainly hurt the Sooners.
In 2020, Hayes was once again a full-time starter. He continued to improve throughout the season, as did the entire offensive line.

This Season
Hayes has drawn comments this offseason for his lifting prowess and how well he has been moving. With both Hayes and Tyrese Robinson returning, the starting guards are both on season three this year. The main competition at guard looks likely to be whichever of Andrew Raym and Chris Murray doesn’t win the starting job at center, as both would fit well at guard as well. However, Hayes looks set to be starting for his third year in a row in 2021.
