The Path to Norman

OU added linebacker Phil Picciotti all the way from Pennsylvania. Picciotti made several visits to Norman after receiving his offer from the Sooners in the fall of 2021. The new staff made him a priority when they arrived, landing Oklahoma in a top four including Michigan, Auburn, and Nebraska. As a recruit, he was viewed as someone who could bring a physical presence to the inside linebacker position. On Independence Day 2022, Picciotti made his announcement.

Following his commitment, Picciotti played his senior season at IMG Academy in Florida.

Highlights

This Season

Picciotti was one of the early enrollees for the Sooners this spring. While the extra offseason is always a plus for incoming recruits, the linebacker room has a lot of young talent and Picciotti could redshirt this season. The Oklahoma staff seems excited to see what Picciotti can bring to the MIKE backer role, but Sooner fans may have to wait a year to see the linebacker regularly.
