The Path to Norman

Andrel Anthony was a receiver recruit from the state of Michigan in the 2021 class. He signed with the University of Michigan out of high school and played there for two seasons. After the 2022 season, Anthony entered the transfer portal. Coach Lebby came calling almost immediately, although Anthony also received portal offers from Texas A&M, Notre Dame, Penn State, and many more. The Sooners won out after only a few short days of Anthony being in the portal.

Career so Far

Anthony played for Michigan as a true freshman. He appeared in 12 of the team’s 14 games, landing 12 catches and three touchdowns on his way to sharing the team’s offensive-rookie-of-the-year award.

As a sophomore, Anthony played in every game for Michigan, but had a much quieter season. After that year, he entered the transfer portal and joined the Sooners.

Highlights

This Season

The Sooners have several players with elite speed; Anthony is certainly in that mix. The speedy receiver has had an impressive offseason and worked his way into the system. OU has little in the way of experience at receiver this season, so Anthony’s two years at Michigan won’t hurt. Anthony is likely to start alongside Jalil Farooq and Drake Stoops, although Gavin Freeman and several others have also flashed this fall. With his top-end speed, Anthony should prove an exciting addition to the Oklahoma receiver group.
