100 (Original) Days to Football Time in Oklahoma: #40 Jon-Michael Terry

TFB has been counting down the days to OU football with a spotlight on each member of the roster, spotlighting the player who corresponds with the days remaining. Today would have been 40 days until opening kickoff; now, it’s 33 days to go.

To avoid skipping players with numbers 41-35, TFB will be pushing out countdowns on double duty this week. For this week only, both numbers currently corresponding with the countdown (34-28) and those previously corresponding with the countdown (41-36) will be receiving a spotlight. The result will be that the countdown will be fully “caught up” next Sunday, August 1st.

The Path to Norman

Career so Far

2016 was a redshirt season for JMT. 2017 came around and TFB often heard that Kenneth Murray and Terry were battling for the inside linebacker spot. Despite that, Murray earned the starting role, shifting JMT into a more supportive position. He played in every game besides Ohio State and certainly shone at times when playing.

In 2018, JMT again played in almost all games. However, his role was mostly on special teams for the season.

2019 was going to be a big year for Terry. He started the first six games of the season at rush end before suffering a season-ending injury against Texas. Nik Bonitto jumped into the spot for the remainder of 2019. JMT was named to the Academic All-Big 12 First Team for the year.

2020 Season

The rush end spot is one of the most talented on the field for the Sooners. JMT, Bonitto, David Ugwoegbu, and Joseph Weté will all be vying for playing time at the spot. With the first three in that group having extensive playing experience, this will be a tough battle to earn the starting role. This position is one of the most open on the field and OU fans should be pleased with any of the players seeing the field. Look for JMT to battle hard to maximize his playing time regardless of who starts.
