The Path to Norman
Mario Williams was an elite receiver out of Florida. He started receiving offers two and a half years before his eventual signing day; the Sooners started pursuing him early. With an offer list a mile long and a top five including Alabama, LSU, Florida, Georgia, and OU, the Sooners had their hands full. Still, Coach Riley and company went into SEC country and got their guy.

This Season
Few players were mentioned more frequently as standouts throughout the offseason than Mario Williams. TFB reported how much of an issue he was going to be back in March:
βIf you try to press him, his acceleration causes a problem. He stacks the defensive back. You realize itβs not worth trying to press him but when a DB tries playing off, Iβm told itβs basically impossible to tackle him in space. If you play off, he just hits you with a stop route and then youβre stuck trying to tackle in space.β
Williams certainly looked the part in the spring game, pulling in several catches. The Oklahoma receivers room looks set to put in a big year in 2021; Jadon Haselwood and Austin Stogner are fully healthy, Marvin Mims still looks like a star, Theo Wease and Drake Stoops return, and newcomers Mike Woods and Mario Williams round out the expected leaders at the position. Even with all that competition, Williams looks ready to play a big part in the 2021 offense.
