The Path to Norman
Bryan Mead wasn’t the first OU kid that his high school coach had seen; Coach Marley from Rejoice Christian School had previously coached former Sooner linebacker Jon-Michael Terry. When Coach Marley had a conversation with Coach Cale Gundy and Coach Tim Kish, they watched Mead’s film and were impressed with what they saw. Shortly after, Bob Stoops extended an invitation to walk on. For more on his journey, check out this article: Tulsa World: Rejoice Christian’s Bryan Mead making waves at Oklahoma.
Career so Far
2016 was a redshirt season for Bryan. 2017 was his first time seeing the field and he did so often, mostly in a reserve role at linebacker and special teams. That trend has continued: over the past four seasons, Mead has appeared in every game but one (52 out of 53 games). Mead has also earned Academic All-Big 12 First Team honors the past four seasons.

Stats
This Season
Bryan Mead took advantage of the free season of eligibility to return to Norman for his sixth season. The inside linebacker spots are the deepest they’ve been in quite a while. At Mike LB, David Ugwoegbu is expected to start, with Caleb Kelly and Mead providing backup. In his fifth consecutive season contributing heavily, Mead has a chance to play in over 65 total games for the Sooners. The OU record for most games played is currently held by Connor McGinnis at 55 games (tip of the hat to OU football historian Mike Brooks for that piece of trivia) – Mead should clear that with flying colors. That will be a pretty cool way to wrap up a long career in Norman for Bryan Mead.
