The Path to Norman
R Mason Thomas, out of Florida, took a winding road to commit to the Sooners. Thomas committed to Iowa State in the summer of 2021 and stuck with the Cyclones right up until signing day. When the regime change occurred in Norman, Coach Venables and Coach Chavis immediately made Thomas a target. He visited Norman a month later and flipped to the Sooners on signing day, rounding out an impressive Edge / OLB class of Jonah La’ulu, Kevonte Henry, and Thomas for Coach Chavis.

Career so Far
R Mason Thomas started playing in his freshman season, his athleticism a big push for his playing time. Unfortunately, he was partially banged up throughout the year, limiting his playing time. Even so, he showed promise on the edge in the snaps he saw.

Highlights
This ended up a 1st down for Kansas but look at True FR EDGE R Mason Thomas here beat the LT with an outside stutter to inside move and then blows through the LG knocking him on his butt. Playing fast and violent! #Sooners pic.twitter.com/ywjGU5fWuE

This Season
The Edge spot should be an exciting one for Sooner fans this year. Newly arrived transfers Rondell Bothroyd and Trace Ford will compete with returning players like Ethan Downs, Reggie Grimes, and R Mason Thomas. Bothroyd seems set to start on one side and Thomas has a great shot at starting on the other side, but there is plenty of competition still remaining. With the athleticism he possesses and the weight he’s gained this offseason, Thomas looks ready to have a big season.
