The Path to Norman

Brynden Walker went to high school at Bishop McGuinness (OKC). The son of a former LSU and NFL player (Denard Walker), Brynden’s offer sheet started blowing up in the spring of 2019. Despite a commitment to Oklahoma State in March of that year, the Sooners offered shortly after. Walker made some visits to Norman, building his relationship with Coach Grinch and Coach Odom. That summer, the Sooners landed his commitment.

Career so Far

Walker played immediately upon arriving in Norman. Appearing in 10 (of 11) games his freshman season, the Oklahoma native played at linebacker and on special teams, showing his athletic potential throughout the season.

In 2021, Walker’s snaps were a little more limited. He played in seven games, again at linebacker and on special teams, while working through injury through part of the season. Walker did earn Academic All-Big 12 First Team honors during his sophomore season.

Highlights

This Season

Brydnen Walker worked at the outside linebacker / rush spot under the previous regime. This spring, the group of Marcus Stripling, Clayton Smith, and Walker all began to work with the defensive end group. The position group is stacked, with Reggie Grimes and Ethan Downs expected to start. Walker will have to fight for snaps, but certainly has the potential to be a contributor for this new Sooners defense.
