100 Days to Football Time in Oklahoma: #28 Danny Stutsman

The Path to Norman

Danny Stutsman, a linebacker out of Florida, received his OU offer back in March 2020; the Oklahoma offer was one of his first. Linebacker Coach Odom led the charge in making Stutsman a priority, fending off schools including Texas A&M, Oklahoma State, and Virginia Tech. Without even getting the young man to campus, the Sooners landed a commitment a couple months after the offer went out.

Career so Far

Stutsman arrived in Norman this summer; TFB reported high praise for the linebacker.

‘I’m hearing extremely high praise for Stutsman. I’m talking throwback to the early 2000s OU defensive player type praise.

Was told if he’s a stock, you want to be buying. One source said “he’s different. He’s a gym junkie. He loves the game. He’s a specimen. He runs well, can jump high and he lifts a lot”.’

Highlights

This Season

This season, David Ugwoegbu (MIKE) and Brian Asamoah (WILL) are expected to start at linebacker. Behind those two, Caleb Kelly, Bryan Mead, and DaShaun White will be the next men up. What do all five of those linebackers have in common? They’re all upperclassmen. The two starters are juniors, while the others are seniors. It’s certainly within the realm of possibility to think that one or both of Ugwoegbu and Asamoah head to the NFL draft after the 2021 season, leaving a huge void at linebacker. This season, Stutsman will likely redshirt. However, with the buzz growing around the young man, he looks like a prime candidate to start at linebacker as early as 2022. Danny Stutsman looks to be one of the key pieces of the future of this Sooners defense.
