The Path to Norman

Bentavious Thompson took a long time to make OU his college home. Thompson was a member of the 2017 class. He had offers from schools including Florida, Miami, and LSU, but landed at UCF, where he played with Dillon Gabriel and under Coach Jeff Lebby. Following the 2021 season, Thompson entered the transfer portal and joined the Sooners.

Career so Far

Thompson took a redshirt season in 2017, but was a member of the AAC All-Academic Team.

In 2018, he played in all 13 games, contributing both at running back and on special teams.

2019 was a step up for the back, who once again played in all 13 games. Thompson ended the season as the team’s third-leading rusher in yards and the leader in rushing touchdowns.

In 2020, Thompson was one again an AAC All-Academic Team member and a consistent contributor in the backfield.

2021 saw Thompson take a year away from the UCF football team.

Highlights

This Season

Thompson came to OU this summer, giving him less time than many to get accustomed to the offense. However, he has worked with Gabriel and Lebby before, which should make the transition easier. Eric Gray, Jovantae Barnes, Marcus Major, and Gavin Sawchuck are the primary factors at running back this year. However, Thompson has as much or more experience as any of them and certainly will get the chance to earn his snaps this year.
