The Path to Norman

Deacon Schmitt came to Norman out of high school in Colorado. The offensive lineman started racking up offers in the summer of 2024, with OU being one of his first offers. That offer list grew very long, with Alabama, Ohio State, USC, Georgia, and many more trying to get the big man. Almost exactly a year after he was offered, Schmitt committed to the Sooners in the summer of 2025.

Highlights

This Season

Schmitt played tackle in high school, but is a candidate across the line at OU; he saw time at guard in the spring game. The offensive line two-deep will be tough to crack for a freshman this fall, but Schmitt will likely see some snaps and prepare for a bigger role next season. He has the athleticism and versatility to be a big factor on the line for the Sooners in years to come.
