The Path to Norman
James Carrington had a journey of a high school career before arriving to college. Carrington played football, working on the defensive line, and wrestled in high school. He was an All-American and Maryland state runner-up in wrestling before he switched to the west coast.
He started receiving offers his freshman year of high school to play football; he ended up with offers from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Michigan, and many more. He briefly committed to Florida State in the summer of 2025, but flipped to the Sooners just a month later.

The defensive tackle spot for the Sooners is as solid as anywhere else in the country. David Stone and Jayden Jackson will start for OU, with a group including Nigel Smith and Trent Wilson in the rotation. Look for Carrington to likely use 2026 as a developmental season before starting to make more of a mark in 2027.
