The Path to Norman
Ryder Mix committed to Oklahoma in June 2024, becoming one of the earliest members of the Sooners’ 2026 class. The tight end out of Texas high school ball had close to three dozen offers when he committed to OU, which was still a year and a half away from his eventual signing date. His father, Austin Mix, played baseball at Oklahoma from 2000-03. After a shortened senior season due to an ACL injury, Mix joined the Sooners in January 2026.

Highlights
This Season
The tight end room, after being virtually non-existent for several seasons, received a complete overhaul over the offseason. The Sooners brought in NFL legend Jason Witten to coach the room and return it to a position of strength for OU. Rocky Beers, Hayden Hansen, and Jack Van Dorselaer were all brought in as transfers to replace the four main tight ends from 2025, with Tyler Ruxer and Mix entering as freshmen. The three transfers look likely to lead the spot this fall; Mix will compete for snaps as a reserve and look ahead to a larger role in 2027.
