The Path to Norman
Austin Welch was one of several former Kennesaw State players to join the Sooners after the 2024 season. Welch was a Kentucky high school product before spending three seasons at Eastern Kentucky. He played in just one game over those seasons before transferring to Kennesaw State for the 2024 season. While there, he played in all 12 games, handling place kicking and kickoffs. After the season, he transferred to OU.

This Season
The Sooners will have a new look at kicker this fall, with three transfers and a true freshman. Tate Sandell (UTSA) looks ready to start at the spot, but Welch will battle to share some of the kicking duties for OU.
