The Path to Norman
Jacobe Johnson was a highly-ranked in-state prospect, having played high school football in Mustang, who was pursued by many top programs for the all-around athleticism and versatility he brings. Primarily seen as a defensive back, Johnson’s size and speed made him an option all over the field. Johnson received his OU offer almost three years before his signing day. He made his way to Norman often, while also visiting Alabama, Michigan, and Stanford. Shortly after the Party at the Palace recruiting weekend in the fall of 2022, Johnson announced for the Sooners.

Career so Far
Johnson was one of several freshmen to play in many games in 2023. Johnson saw snaps in all 13 games, both at corner and on special teams.
In 2024, Johnson saw even more playing time. He once again played in all 13 games, earning two starts at corner late in the season. Johnson even saw time at receiver early in the season and was named to the SEC Fall Academic Honor Roll.

This Season
The cornerback room is going to have a lot of competition. While Eli Bowen and Gentry Williams have seemed to be likely starters, both have missed time over the offseason. Players like Kendel Dolby, Courtland Guillory, Johnson, and more have seen lots of snaps in practice. It’s hard to see a path to Johnson starting, but he’ll certainly get shots to play this fall.
