The Path to Norman

Kaden Helms came to Norman out of Nebraska. The high four-star tight end was offered by Coach Joe Jon Finley shortly after joining staff back in January 2021. Helms’ top four included Miami, Arizona State, and North Carolina, along with the Sooners. Finley locked down Helms, who joined Llewellyn as freshman tight ends in the 2022 OU recruiting class.

Career so Far

In his first year in college, Helms took a redshirt season. He played in three games, including his previous home of Nebraska.

Unfortunately, Helms missed the entire 2023 season with injury.

Helms played on special teams and was a backup at tight end in 2024; he missed more time with injury, but was named to SEC Fall Academic Honor Roll.

This Season

Helms is recovering from a broken hand and has been working in a cast recently. OU also added several players over the break to the tight end room. It’s a position group with lots of new faces and little to no clear direction. Will Huggins and Jaren Kanak will likely lead the group, but any tight end that can make some noise should have a shot at playing time.
