The Path to Norman

Reggie Powers, a safety out of Ohio, was part of a solid 2024 OU safety class. The Sooners joined Powers’ recruitment late. Powers had plenty of offers, but committed to Michigan State in the summer of 2023. The OU offer came in September; Powers decommitted from MSU within the week. Oklahoma brought the safety to campus in October and secured a commitment not long after.

Career so Far

In his first year on campus, Powers saw action in 12 games. He played both on secondary and special teams and was named to the SEC Fall Academic and SEC First-Year Academic honor rolls.

Highlights

This Season

Powers has put in an impressive offseason and is making a strong case to be a starter. He’s worked at both safety and Cheetah and is a legit option at either spot. At safety, Peyton Bowen and Robert Spears-Jennings will be the leaders, while Kendel Dolby is an option at either cornerback or Cheetah. Depending on how the staff decides to approach the secondary and given the players’ versatility, several guys could be shuffled around. Regardless of which spot he ends up at, Powers looks set for a breakout year in season number two.
