The Path to Norman
Gentry Williams came to OU as a very highly-ranked defensive back in the 2022 class. A Tulsa product, Williams and the Sooners circled each other for years. Williams suffered an ACL injury in his junior season, but came back strong for his senior season. Many top programs recruited the young man, including USC, Florida, Michigan, and Georgia. OU landed a commitment the fall before his signing day, but had to stick with him through interest from other schools and a coaching change. The Sooner state ended up keeping Williams home to play.

Career so Far
In Williams’ first season on campus, he played in all games but one. In his limited action, he showed extreme promise and excited Sooner fans with his coverage.
Williams was an impact player in 2023. He played in 10 games, all starts, and was electric in his time on the field. However, he had an injury bug on and off, missing three games and limiting him at times.

Highlights
This Season
Williams had shoulder surgery after last season, which was hoped to have fixed the nagging injury. However, he injured his shoulder yet again during this fall’s first scrimmage. When healthy, Williams is a clear-cut starter and NFL-level corner. If he can stay that way this year, he could have a really big season for the Sooners.
