The Path to Norman

Makari Vickers was a top-100 recruit in the highly-ranked 2023 OU recruiting class. A defensive back out of Florida, Vickers had offers from many top programs around the country. His top three included the Sooners, Michigan, and Alabama, with the Tide in particular a big threat in his recruitment. Vickers visited Norman for the Party at the Palace event at the end of July in 2022; while there, he made his decision to join OU. A month later, he announced his commitment to play for Oklahoma.

Vickers played in eight games as true freshman, but had his time limited due to injury.

This Season

Vickers is part of a corner room that has been partially banged up over the past year or two. This fall, the two-deep at corner will likely be upperclassmen. If Vickers can stay healthy, he should have chances to contribute this year and push for a starting role next season.
