The Path to Norman
Nigel Smith was part of an excellent 2024 defensive line for the Sooners. A football and basketball player out of Texas, Smith was a top-200 recruit with several dozen offers. He came to Norman several times to scope out the terrain, where Coach Bates and Coach Chavis prioritized the big man. As the 2023 season kicked off, Smith committed to the Sooners over A&M, Ohio State, Texas, Georgia, and plenty more.

Highlights
This Season
Smith is a tall lineman who could play either defensive end or defensive tackle down the road. He has primarily worked at end this offseason, where guys like Ethan Downs, Caiden Woullard, and R Mason Thomas will lead the way. The numbers will likely lead to a redshirt season this fall, but Smith is part of a young defensive line group ready to make a splash over the new few years.
