The Path to Norman

Zach Schmit played high school football just up the road from Norman at Bishop McGuinness. He was a 5* Kohl’s kicker and top five in the 2020 class. The kicker decided to join the Sooners to wrap up that class.

Career so Far

Schmit took a redshirt season in 2020, but saw action in two games. He kicked off once in each of those two games.

In 2021, Schmit was backup to Gabe Brkic in Brkic’s final season. Schmit played in four games, making one field goal and four PATs to go along with a few kickoffs. Schmit also earned Academic All-Big 12 First Team honors for the year.

After Brkic’s departure, Schmit took on kicking duties in 2022. He was nails on PATs, going 53/53, but had an up and down season on field goals. Schmit once again earned Academic All-Big 12 First Team Honors.

Schmit once again handled kicking in 2023. He extended his streak of consecutive made PATs to 124, which is fifth-longest in OU history. However, Schmit once again struggled with consistency on field goals, making just 15 of 21 and only 2 of 5 over 40 yards.
