The Path to Norman
Danny Stutsman, a linebacker out of Florida, received his OU offer back in March 2020; the Oklahoma offer was one of his first. OU made Stutsman a priority, fending off schools including Texas A&M, Oklahoma State, and Virginia Tech. Without even getting the young man to campus, the Sooners landed a commitment a couple months after the offer went out.

Career so Far
The praise was high for Stutsman even before his first season, with consistent mention of the linebacker coming out of camp. He played right away, appearing in 10 games; the three he missed were due to injury. His toughness and energy were quickly noticed by Sooner nation. In a position group with plenty of experienced players, Stutsman still managed to earn a large share of playing time. Stutsman ended the season ninth on the team in tackles, tied with Isaiah Thomas and one behind Nik Bonitto.
In 2022, Stutsman stepped into an even bigger role. He started all 13 games at WILL, was second on the team in TFL, led the team and Big 12 in total tackles, and received an honorable mention All-Big 12 nod. Stutsman played in 93% of the total defensive snaps, most on the team.
2023 was another banner season for the linebacker. A true team leader, he started 12 games, was second on the team in sacks, first in both tackles and TFL, and third in the Big 12 in tackles. Stutsman’s pre-game speech at Texas was a big statement for the season and fanbase alike. He was named a second-team Walter Camp All-American, a third-team AP All-American, First Team All-Big 12, and a Lombardi Award semifinalist.

Highlights
This Season
Stutsman came back for one more year in Norman as a starting linebacker, much to the fans’ liking. He has already been named preseason All-SEC First Team and is on the Nagurski Trophy watch list.
He is already at 267 career tackles, averaging 115 the past two seasons. If he tacks on another 100 this fall, he’ll be top 10 in career tackles in OU history. Another 13 TFL (he had 16 in 2023) would land him inside the top 10 for TFL.
Sooner fans have one more season with the latest addition to the long list of elite OU linebackers; enjoy it.
