The Path to Norman
Erik McCarty was offered by the Sooners almost immediately after the coaching regime in the winter of 2021. An athlete prospect out of McAlester, OK, McCarty already held offers from TCU, Nebraska, and Baylor. However, he committed to OU within a month of his offer.

Career so Far
McCarty took a redshirt season in 2023 as he eased back in after suffering a torn ACL during his senior year of high school.
Highlights
This Season
McCarty has been able to practice this offseason and has reminded folks of the athleticism that made him such an intriguing recruit. He has worked at safety, where the positional depth will make it tough to crack into the rotation this fall. However, McCarty should be able to excel on special teams this year while preparing to help the defense more in coming seasons.
