The Path to Norman

Casey Thompson took quite possibly the longest road to Norman ever taken. The son of former OU QB Charles Thompson and brother of former OU QB Kendal, Casey took his first unofficial visit to OU in the fall of 2015 – Coach Bob Stoops still had two season remaining as head coach. The Sooners seemed like a lock to land Thompson out of high school. However, Cam Rising (miraculously also still in college) committed to OU before Thompson. Thompson ended up committing to Texas out of high school.

Thompson spent four seasons at Texas, becoming the starter in 2021. He then transferred to Nebraska for the 2022 season, where he battled through injuries but started ten games. In 2023, Thompson transferred to FAU. He played in just three games before a season-ending injury.

Finally, following the 2023 season, Casey entered the portal. In January, he announced his transfer to Oklahoma.

Career so Far

Thompson took a redshirt season in 2018. He then played in four games in 2019 and three in 2020 while providing depth. In the 2020 season, Thompson became the first FBS player in 20 years to throw at least four touchdown passes on 10 or fewer passes in a bowl game.

2021 saw Thompson become the starter for most of the season. He threw for 2,100 yards and 24 touchdowns throughout the season, leading the Big 12 in both passing touchdowns and points responsible for (168). In a loss to Oklahoma, he threw for 288 yards and five touchdowns.

At Nebraska in 2022, Thompson was once again the starter for most of the season. Thompson’s 2,407 passing yards ranked seventh in a single season in school history, while his 17 touchdown passes tied for 10th. He threw for 129 yards and a touchdown in a loss to Oklahoma.

2023 was a short season for Thompson, who suffered a season-ending injury just three games into the year.
