The Path to Norman
J.J. Hester played high school football at Booker T in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Despite being an in-state product and having interest in OU, Hester initially landed at Missouri. He was the highest-ranked recruit in the Tigers’ 2020 recruiting class. After two seasons at Mizzou, Hester entered the transfer portal. The Sooners’ new coaching staff came calling and landed the receiver.

Career so Far
During his first season at Missouri, Hester took a redshirt season and did not play. In 2021, Hester was a consistent contributor for the Tigers. He played in every game of the season, led the team in yards per reception, and showed off his size and athleticism.
Unfortunately, Hester’s first season with the Sooners was hampered by injuries. He played in the first three games, hauling in just one catch.
In 2023, Hester again fought through injuries. He saw action in the final five games of the season.

This Season
The receiver room, a very deep one this year, has several players returning from injury and has already seen the injury bug bite with Jayden Gibson hurt. Hester has seen a lot of snaps during fall camp. He will likely be in the two-deep for game one and looks ready to be a consistent contributor this fall.
