The Path to Norman
Bryson Washington started his recruiting journey a long time before his signing day. His first Power 5 offer came in October, 2017, almost two and a half years before his signing day. He played at C.E. King in Houston, Texas before transferring to Mater Dei in California to finish his high school career. Washington was a top-rated recruit with an impressive offer sheet; Alabama, LSU, Ohio State, Clemson, and Texas were just some of the big names wanting the young man at their program. As time went on, it came down to just Texas and OU as his top two schools. Then, Coach Riley dropped his bat signal.

Career so Far
Washington enrolled early and arrived in Norman in the spring. His athleticism received a lot of attention; he reportedly blew a 4.3 40! He was set at nickel at first to challenge Bookie. Then, the staff transitioned him back to safety, his recruiting position, where he settled in nicely.

Highlights
2020 Season
The Sooners’ future at safety has Washington written all over it; the latest depth chart projection has Bryson Washington slotted behind returning starter Pat Fields at free safety and Woodi Washington behind returning starter DTY at strong safety, which has been the situation for several months. Both Fields and DTY will need to be very aggressive in holding their spots; the Washington safeties appear to be exactly what Coach Grinch is looking for in a safety. Even though the returning starters are both juniors, the freshmen players are more than capable of earning their playing time. Whether it’s this year or in the future, Bryson Washington has all the tools to be a great safety at OU.
