The Path to Norman
Key Lawrence is a double Tennessee product. The defensive back played high school football in Nashville and was a top 100 recruit in the 2020 class. Despite many teams, OU included, vying for his commitment, he played for Tennessee his freshman season, playing in all games at defensive back and special teams. In the offseason, Lawrence was part of a max exodus from the Volunteers and one of several players to land with the Sooners.

Career so Far
Lawrence was a contributor from the moment he arrived in Norman. He played in every game of the 2021 season, earned four starts, ranked seventh on the team in tackles, and received All-Big 12 Honorable Mention. The 2021 OU secondary had its share of questionable decisions and strategies, but Lawrence was consistently one of its brightest components.
In 2023, Lawrence once again was a frequent on-field presence. He played in most games and logged a career high in tackles.

This Season
Lawrence is once again set to start at safety, with Billy Bowman manning the other safety spot. Newcomers like Peyton Bowen and Reggie Pearson will be a big part of the plan as well, but Lawrence is set to hold onto his starting role. The safety room is as deep as it has been in years this fall; they will have the chance to impress everyone with their play.
