100 Days to Football Time in Oklahoma: #11 Parnell Motley

The Path to Norman

Parnell Motley, a Washington D.C. native, was committed to Maryland for roughly six months; that didn’t mean that the OU coaching staff gave up. Turmoil on the Maryland coaching staff led to a lot of speculation. In December 2015, only two months before signing day, Parnell decommitted from the Terrapins. Shortly after that, Sooner fans got good news.

Career so Far

Immediately after arriving on campus, TFB started to hear how good Motley was going to be. The corner played in most of the games his freshman season, although admittedly with limited playing time in many of them. Most of his playing time came on special teams.

2017 spring came around and there was quite the consensus; Motley had the best spring of any defensive back. The spring game did nothing but heighten the expectations surrounding the corner. Jordan Parker and Motley battled for the starting spot opposite Jordan Thomas for much of the offseason; an injury to Parker left just Motley available. By the end of the season, #11 was possibly OU’s top cover man.

2018 was a tough year for the corner; although he played in every game, he did not start in as many as the year before and was part of a secondary that had a hard time stopping the pass game.

Highlights

2019 Season

With the recent injury to Tre Norwood, Tre Brown and Parnell Motley appear set as the 2019 starters at corner. While there are plenty of young guys at the spot, those two have the most experience and have had good camps. Jordan Parker, who TFB has reported looks set to play at corner again this year, and Miguel Edwards will probably be the stiffest competition for the two presumed starters. Sooner fans will be rooting for a big season for Motley and the rest of the secondary.
