The Path to Norman
Kobie McKinzie, an elite four-star linebacker out of Lubbox, Texas, was committed to the Sooners for over two years. When the former staff fled west, McKinzie decommitted from the Sooners and committed to the Longhorns shortly after. Coach Venables continued to make McKinzie a priority when he landed the job. Following a visit to Norman shortly before December signing day, McKinzie flipped back to the good guys. He joined Kip Lewis and Jaren Kanak in an absurdly talented 2022 linebacker class.

Highlights
This Season
Already a speciman when he arrived on campus, McKinzie has leaned up and become even more athletic than when he first artrived. Returners David Ugwoegbu, Danny Stutsman, and DaShaun White are the leaders at linebacker, with Ugwoegbu set to start at MIKE (McKinzie’s spot). After those three and Shane Whitter, the room is wide open to the freshmen. While there is experience ahead of them, the three freshmen are too talented to not see minutes in 2022. Both White and Ugwoegbu are seniors; after gaining some experience this year, McKinzie will have a great shot to be a starter and leader at linebacker for several years in Norman.
