The Path to Norman

Theo Wease teased Sooner fans before landing in Norman. He committed to Oklahoma in February of 2017, but reopened his recruitment in April of the same year. However, he never seemed out of reach to OU fans and it seemed like a recommitment was always within reach. In April of 2018, he let it be known that he was going to stick with his OU commitment over other top programs including USC, LSU, and Alabama.

Career so Far

Wease came in with Jadon Haselwood, Trejan Bridges, and Austin Stogner as one of the most heralded receiver classes to ever head to Norman. The four looked like the real deal when arriving on campus in 2019.

Theo Wease appeared in every game but one in 2019. He had some impressive catches, including a big game against Baylor. Although the entire talented group listed above received fewer targets than Sooner fans would have liked, his talent was on full display when he had opportunities.

The receiver group took a noticeable step back in 2020. CeeDee Lamb left for the pros, leaving a big gap. Between injuries, suspensions, and a few guys not stepping up, the position didn’t live up to Coach Riley’s standards. Wease was tied for most receptions on the team (37) and second in receiving yards (530). He had some big time catches, but also some key drops throughout the season.

Unfortunately, Wease was injured for the 2021 season and only appeared in one game. When the coaching change occured, Wease initally entered the transfer portal; however, after connecting with Coach Lebby, he stuck with OU,

Highlights

This Season

Wease is the lone remaining receiver from the 2019 class that drew so much attention. Coming off an injury and a coaching staff change, it feels like a completely fresh start for the receiver. Wease’s name has been frequently mentioned over the offseason for his hard work and growth. The starting receivers are expected to be Marvin Mims, Jalil Farooq, and Wease. Other outside receivers pushing for playing time behind Wease and Farooq include Jayden Gibson, J.J. Hester, and Brian Darby. Sooner fans are hopeful to see Wease have a big season in 2022.
