Open Post | Weekend, Dec. 19th – 21st (UPDATE Fri., 3:32 pm)

Ricky DeBerry: This is the one we’re all waiting for today. DeBerry will announce his commitment today at 9 a.m. CST. You can watch it live, here, via webstream. He will choose between schools like OU, Alabama, Virginia, Tennessee among others. First, we want to state very clearly that while DeBerry belongs to the linebackers position group, the fact the Sooners are in this race at all is because of COACH JERRY MONTGOMERY and the tremendous effort he has put in with Ricky DeBerry and his family throughout the process.

What we’ve heard – Probably not a lot of reason to make any guesses at this point since we will all know where he’s headed this morning but we will anyway! So what we’ve heard continues to be that if this decision was up to DeBerry’s parents, he would be a Sooner. That jives with the conversations we’ve had with DeBerry’s father in the past and everyone we’ve spoken to that’s close to the situation who has said something similar. That doesn’t necessarily tell us where DeBerry ends up, but the fact his parents believe the best spot for him is half way across the country is a obviously good thing for OU’s chances.

DaiShon Neal: Earlier this week, Oklahoma offered Nebraska 2015 DE commit, Daishon Neal. First, this offer has nothing to do with any lost ground with guys like Gabriel Campbell or Neville Gallimore. This offer is about the fact the Sooners just really like Neal. We checked around and have been told that Neal actually plans on visiting Norman in January. Apparently Neal’s mother is from Texas so despite living in Omaha, he is familiar with things a little farther south. Neal is also being heavily pursued by Oregon and has plans to visit the Ducks in January as well.

Kareem Orr: We’ve been asking around about how many more corners OU plans on taking and have been told that with PJ Mbanasor and Will Johnson in the fold, OU will likely only take one more CB. However, they would be willing to hold a spot for ate Dalton, because they believe he can play anywhere in the secondary. Kareem took a visit to Clemson recently, but it sounds like they aren’t one of his favorites.

He will take a visit to Arizona State in January, and we’ve been told that it’s going to come down to OU and Arizona State with Clemson and Georgia likely being on the outside looking in. Orr released a Top 6 this week of Arizona State, Clemson, Georgia, Miss. State, Oklahoma &  Indiana. But in talking with someone close to Kareem, we get the strong sense that Miss. State and Indiana aren’t real contenders either.

DuVonta Lampkin: We’ve been asked not to divulge too much, but there is some talk out there that Lampkin, the former OU commit, may be once again warming up to the Sooners. We can say that it is a credible rumor and you’re going to want to keep your eye on Lampkin, because there is good reason to believe things aren’t done between he and OU.

– UPDATE (Fri., 8:25 am): As you’ve surely seen by now, both Malik Jefferson & DeAndre McNeal have committed to Texas this morning. Charlie Strong clearly isn’t messing around in Austin and one can only hope that isn’t lost on those running things in Norman.

– UPDATE (Fri., 9:20 am): Ricky DeBerry is coming to Norman!!!

UPDATE (9:47 am): Kahlil Haughton has just let us know that he will announce his decision today at 3 pm CST.

– UPDATE (11:59 am): Was in such a rush to get up the DeBerry news, I (Jordan) totally spaced putting this up with it.

boom

See you back here at 3pm.

– UPDATE (Fri., 12:02 pm): Sooners make the Top 5 cut for 5-star 2015 LB John Houston (Gardean, CA).

– UPDATE (Fri., 3:00 pm): Done got another one.

haughton

boom

– UPDATE (Fri., 3:32 pm): Boom.

Anyone catch Aaron Sims from Cameron Yoe in the tejas championships last night? 6 catches for something like 160 yds and 3 TDs, 39, 43 and 47 yds. Guy might be a players.

    • Tom Turman says:

He’s really small isn’t he? Smaller than Saunders? He may need some time at the training table.

    • AlvinMack55 says:

I’m excited to see him play. I think he will eventuallearn a scholly at ou

    • Soonergmc says:

I watched him last night. He was impressive. Used his speed to get into open space. Great hands and concentration. That was a nice Hail Mary catch he came down with to end the half with 3 defenders on him. He will be someone to keep an eye on.

      • EasTex says:

I’m reluctant to call it a hail mary for the simple reason that it was thrown to him and he timed his leap perfectly between two defenders. The young man’s hands and focus, along with him being fearless impressed me.
He may be small in stature but he is a gamer.

    • EasTex says:

      I did.
He did all that and could have run a kick off back, but got excited when the field opened and out ran his feet.
While he is a preferred walk-on with OU I’m afraid someone will come along and steal him with a full ride.

  • AlvinMack55 says:

    *Prays DeBerry picks OU*

    • Jordan Esco says:

I don’t even want to imagine the meltdown that will occur if this doesn’t happen.

      • L'Carpetron Dookmarriot says:

People will blame Kish, even though they shouldn’t.

        • Bill Duncan says:

There has to be some accountability for the lack of LB recruiting

          • Jeremy Phillips says:

If you care to research.. Both Rivals & 247 have data bases that show you the Kish signees over the last several years..

          • L'Carpetron Dookmarriot says:

            And there are many.

          • Jeremy Phillips says:

Right, no commits yet this year, but he’s signed either 8 or 9 over the last 2 classes…

          • Bill Duncan says:

I see his commits over the past two years, I’m just not impressed. Only 2-3 have played significant roles and mostly due to the lack of depth at the LB spot.

          • Jim says:

You can also see all the elite guys he’s missed out on. Again, Striker was Venables’ get and DeBerry is Monty’s get. Kish hasn’t done squat.

  • Michael Darling says:

With Malik committing to UT…Lampkin will stay at Texas (in my opinion of course). Next year’s RRS could be ugly…

    • Bob Edwards says:

If so it probably won’t be because of the recruits from this year. Most won’t be on campus till summer. Not a lot of practice time to learn a system and be productive. Now a couple of years from now….

  • Boomer15 says:

K, IYO does Texas getting Jefferson actually assist OU in regards to Wheeler? Nice pick ups for Charlie though no doubt.

    • Mr. Jones says:

Great question. Does it help, hurt or neither?

    • Stephen Dale says:

Boomer………………watch for Wheeler joining the UT stampede toward signing day. might watch for chris warren or soso jamabo doing the same………….UT is going to dwarf this league soon………………

  • Cory Reedy says:

Texas has had top recruits for quite some time now. I ain’t skeered.

  • Rashad See says:

    Any word on Newsome?

  • cdubs says:

Now that Texas has four linebacker commitments, do they cool on Wheeler?

    • Jordan Esco says:

I wouldn’t think so. Now he may cool on them, but I’m not expecting Texas to back off. Could be wrong tho

  • GreginDestin says:

Frankly, I don’t understand why some stud high school recruit is so enamored by Strong’s entire 4-year routine of living in dorms and acting like a college football career is basically equivalent to advanced infantry training year ’round. Ultimately, I think OU, as well as almost all of OU’s conference peers will benefit from Strong enforcing this policy. Kids may not admit it openly, but that crap gets pushed by parents and if given a real choice, most 18 year olds are not going to buy into this nonsense.

    • SoonerfanTU says:

I think that is why you are seeing them struggle some, and why OU has a chance with a guy like Lampkin. Most kids aren’t going to want to play like that, in an environment like that.

  • Randy says:

If DeBerry stays home who could blame him. Not Kish’s fault last I seen OU’s LB’s didn’t cost OU one game this season. Lack of depth I get but lack of depth at “other positions” hurt A LOT worse.

  • Isaac Wright says:

Im actually very happy that Jefferson and Mcneal went to Texas I never thought we had much of a chance and I wouldve rather seen them in the Big12 than the $ec….if oklahoma and texas get back to playing ball the big 12 is going to be a lot better off

    • Glocal Sooner says:

Yeah, I agree. I like seeing top recruits coming to the Big 12. Of course we would like them at OU but picking a Big 12 school over the SEC is a big plus for us.

    • Mr. Jones says:

Agreed. Texas being good is a good thing for both the Big12 and OU.

      • Stephen Dale says:

Jones………………….disagree completely. if you thought aTm was a ‘thorn in the flesh’, just watch Texas dominate this conference for years to come and see how quickly the taste of BEVO a** gets old.

        • Mr. Jones says:

We’ll agree to disagree… Texas and OU being good does much more for the conference than any other two teams and it’s not even close. aTm had 1 conference championship in their Big12 tenure and couldn’t even compete consistently for South division championships. Look at the early 2000’s when OU & Texas dominated the league for the most part; the RRS was a premier game, we were both competing for national championships and the Big12 was very well respected.

          • Indy_sooner says:

No use arguing. OP is trolling for the sake of it. Data doesn’t show UT “dominating” in the last decade with all their elite 5 stars. Not sure how that will magically change for” years to come”

  • Jeff says:

Not worried about Texass, they have more issues than OU, but about Baylor

  • Zack says:

    I didn’t expect 8 hats. I shoulda had a Xanax

  • hemisooner says:

Strong is turning Texas around. Not very good news for us sooner fans.

    • ccmosaic says:

Not true. A strong Texas is always good for OU. Your assumption is that if Texas is strong then OU will suck. Yet what history shows is that when Texas is strong OU is strong. When Texas goes all limp wrist OU is right behind them. Therefore I look forward to a strong Texas and therefore a strong OU and Big 12.

      • Mr. Jones says:

Plus a win over a top 10 Texas is much more respected nationally than a win over a top 10 Baylor or TCU.

      • hemisooner says:

you know the landscape has changed, right. Briles has got Baylor rolling and ahead of OU. TCU isn’t far behind with Patterson at the helm. A&M has the SEC to recruit with. Add Texas to the equation. That will be 4 programs in the heart of texas that will be rolling.

    • SoonerfanTU says:

Because of two recruits? One of which I don’t believe OU was even actively recruiting?

      • hemisooner says:

not two commits but the overall direction of the program. Strong recruiter, tough defense, and he brings toughness, which they clearly lacked.

    • DCinAZ says:

I think it’s good news for the BIG XII and us.

      • hemisooner says:

I disagree. just bc Texas is getting better doesn’t mean OU is getting better.

        • DCinAZ says:

It doesn’t make us better but if Texas is better, the RRS returns to national prominence and that helps us in recruiting, national perception, and it helps the league.

  • Indy_sooner says:

I would love to have ‘Vonta back, just me tho. Didn’t his momma want him here?
Probably in the minority and will get flamed, but I actually like Strong closing in on Talent instead of A&M.I am in the camp that wants UT and OU back on top of the league and keeping their respective talent in state instead of SEC is a good start. If UT is competitive, the RRR becomes the showcase to national championships. It has little meaning right now…

    • Kelly Gurbcock says:

Historically, when in a conference together, OU is best when uterus is best and vice versa. Hate them, but love beating them when they are top five. And oddly enough I get along with their fans better than I do with LosuR fans. Why is that?

      • Indy_sooner says:

Simple, there are teams that already have *it* vs. those that don’t. Yes, we got beat this year, but OSU knows who the big dawgs are. Even in down years UT and OU out recruit and have no trouble filling the stands w/o the need for oil money boosters. The pokes cannot say the same, so they get mad every chance they get

    • Jim says:

Lampkin’s JR year film was amazing compared to his sophomore film, so I’m with you Indy. I’m not sure how his SR year went, but after I saw his JR film, I wanted him badly. I was not happy when he decommitted. He’s got a ton of natural ability, so the S&C program at OU will greatly benefit him and us. I’ll take him back in a heartbeat.

    • Defend Colfax says:

      yea but texas suck

    • Stephen Dale says:

Indy……………………I disagree about Texas…..Never hope for this team to rebuild for if they do, OU ‘ll get ‘mud-stomped” for as long as C Strong is HC…………

      • Indy_sooner says:

Oklahoma should never run away from competition or be afraid of other teams rebuilding. We SHOULD be the yard stick that others measure up to. The day we lose that vision is the day we doom ourselves. Again, Texas does not have ANYTHING on us. Not championships, not Heisman trophies, winning %’s or head-head tallies, so I am not sure what you’re basing your opinion on.

  • L'Carpetron Dookmarriot says:

I feel like a Junior High kid watching this. Really.

  • Glocal Sooner says:

Re: Orr…it’s between OU and Arizona St. Hmmm, we’ve been down that road before. I don’t have any confidence when it’s between us and AZ St.

    • Defend Colfax says:

      negative recruiting.

    • SoonerSpock says:

Need to hope ASU has Jackie Shipp chasing him. It would give us a better chance unless he has rekindled the recruiting energy he had 15 years ago when recruiting Tommie Harris, Dusty Dvoracek and Gerald McCoy

  • Mr. Jones says:

I shouldn’t be this nervous watching a high school kid.

  • Billy says:

    So, he commit yet?

  • F1at1ined says:

At least OUs hat is near the center where presumably DeBerry will be sitting.
Am hoping for a DeBerry Christmas for the Sooners.

  • Jeff says:

Is it a good sign the OU hat is right in front of him?

  • Jeff says:

    BOOMER!

  • mizzOUstu702 says:

    Woot!

  • Dustin Brasel says:

    Boom!

  • Glocal Sooner says:

    BOOMER FREAKIN SOONER!!!

  • L'Carpetron Dookmarriot says:

    I’LL ALLOW IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Michael Darling says:

    SOONERS LAND DEBERRY!

  • Soonerfandave84 says:

    BOOM!

  • Mr. Jones says:

    HORNS DOWN!!! BOOMER!!

  • hOUligan says:

    YES!!! Whorns down and all!!!

  • ccmosaic says:

Was this televised? Just curious how you all were able to find out so quickly?

  • Sooner Ray says:

    Horns Down!!!!

  • Jed says:

    Some VERY good news

  • shawn says:

    Great pickup

  • lebval15 says:

    well done Coach Montgomery

  • Zack says:

    Jefferson who?

  • F1at1ined says:

We may have been this excited to get any LB commit, but to get a 5 star LB as our first one is just oh so sweeter. Great job by coach Jerry Montgomery. Monty for co-Def-CoOrd!

  • Billy says:

Great pick up. Glad to see some good news around here!

  • Mr. Jones says:

    Monty for Prez?

  • kt-raida says:

    Yes!!!!!!!

  • Bob Edwards says:

    Give Monty a raise.

  • ccmosaic says:

This is so freaking huge! So seriously how long has it been? A 5* LB at OU.

  • SavageSoonerEsq says:

    BOOM!

  • CastorTroyBoy says:

Seems like alot of you are just hoping Strong fails… I got news for ya! He won’t and expect Trevor to have another poor game next year. This is coming from a true sooner who saw the so-called “greatest offense of all-time get castrated by Strong and his boys at florida. Like Bruce Lee said to those wishing for his demise in a real fight who thought they had figured him out…”Wishing is easy”..”Let’s see what you have learned..”

    • KellyB says:

      please go somewhere else

      • CastorTroyBoy says:

Not going anywhere. You know nothing about me. If you did perhaps you would learn something other than stating your hypocrisy in hear daily…Don’t like what your hearing change my opinion if you can…lol

      • SoonerBred says:

The “castor oil boy” gives me the creeps, go back down where you came from, cuz you ain’t no Sooner!

    • Super K says:

Castor, please wrap it up for today. It’s a happy moment for the Sooners. Let it go or we’ll have to ban you. No disrespect but please save it for another day.

      • CastorTroyBoy says:

SuperK they attacked me dude. I’m just tired of hearing people talk crap about other teams while ignoring our own frailties. Not worrying about the conditions that are showing today would have saved ourselves a whole lot of trouble 10 years ago.

      • Boom says:

K, you and your team have a special thing going on so ban this guy so we can enjoy your news and have good discussions with other posters. We don’t need guys who want to meet other poster face to face. No threats, this site is to good for this nonsense.

      • Wilson says:

I say we take a vote to see if he stays on the island…lol

      • paganpink says:

        BOOM!

    • Billy says:

      Wut?

    • lebval15 says:

There is no reason for anyone to be afraid of Charlie Strong. He’s 43-22 in 5 seasons. And that was playing mostly in a laughably weak conference. He recruits well, but so did Mack Brown. Turning good recruits into wins seems to be a problem at Texas, and so far Strong hasn’t shown any reason to think that is going to change.

      • paganpink says:

That is exactly right. There is almost no year that the University of Texas, drawing on the almost 27 million people in their state, don’t have an absolute abundance of talent. Yet they have lost 10 out of 15 times since 2000 to Oklahoma- and Bob Stoops. Boom.

    • kt-raida says:

You are not a true sooner. You are a troll, Stephen Dale reads your post and say “WTF”.

    • OUknowwhatitis says:

alot of us are are more hoping that OU succeeds and getting OUr program to where it needs to be…ill let Strong worry about what he has to do over there not really interested what happened or “castration” as you put it in a game that happened 6 yrs ago with different players..and a different college doesnt really make a difference now..as it didnt a few months ago either

    • Boomer4life says:

Don’t let the door hit ya where the good Lord split ya!

    • paganpink says:

      Blah blah blah.

  • lebval15 says:

Who has him as a 5*? ESPN? Rivals has him at #122 and a 4*. I’m glad we have him no matter what he is ranked, i’m just wondering who has him that high.

  • DCinAZ says:

    Thank GOD for Monty!

  • bjwalker82 says:

Man, we needed some good news. Thank goodness!

  • Isaac Wright says:

    Beautiful sight #big12backbaby

  • SoonerfanTU says:

Excellent!!! Hopefully this will give us some momentum with others (LB’s).

  • Austin says:

I just got out of surgery from having my wisdom teeth pulled and this is the first thing I checked on! Boomer freaking sooner!

  • Randy White says:

Does anybody know if he plans on enrolling early. Maybe was stated somewhere and I missed it.

  • BigJoeBrown says:

BOOMER!!! This is great news….A great day for the Soonernation.

  • Billy says:

Switzer on the out: The Boz shows up.
Stoops on the out: Da Berry shows up?

  • Indy_sooner says:

    BOOM!!!

  • ccmosaic says:

So, who are our next LB targets? And who do we land? I think we need at least 2 more and 1 of them needs to be a inside LB if not 2 of them.

  • lebval15 says:

As much as i like to say our recruiting is down, I do have to concede that we now already have more 4* players (10) committed this year than we signed all of last year (8 plus Mixon who was a 5*)

    • DCinAZ says:

Don’t think our recruiting was down. I think our “recruiters” were down.

      • lebval15 says:

well its been said a lot here, and I still believe it, that we aren’t getting the quality of players we got a few years back.

        • DCinAZ says:

I think that’s true but if you look at the recruits Monty and Bedenbaugh are churning, it sort of shows who “the closers” are.

        • ccmosaic says:

I think we are all starting to see the upswing in recruiting. No doubts our recruiting over the last 5 maybe 6 years has been troubling. Let’s hope that we started to see the upswing last year and it only gets better.

    • ccmosaic says:

I believe we are moving back up in recruiting due to people like Monty and our O line coach. If we could get rid of Kish and hire a real LB coach that connects well with the kids we could kill it next year or two.

      • Soonerfandave84 says:

I miss BV as the LB coach! Dude was a great recruiter and a helluva LB coach

        • CastorTroyBoy says:

Plenty of former linebackers from here to choose from. I don’t see why a former sooner backer has never been considered. Guess I have to put that to Berry Tramel for consideration..

  • Kelly Gurbcock says:

This is a good day but still dwarfed by the day Texas is having. We need more, a lot more.

  • William Ryan says:

Ricky DeBerry commit is what we needed good job Monty!

  • Sam Philbeck says:

DeBerry and Haughton on the same day would be HUGE!

  • OU_Sooners says:

Haughton’s announcement to OU or Baylor is interesting considering Stidham and Deberry committed today. Hoping it’s good news.

  • Michael Darling says:

Is Kahlil anything special? Seems to be rated pretty low on rivals.

  • Kelly Gurbcock says:

BTW, who is the best OU alum recruiter in the country right now not on the staff? Just curious, think we could use an ethical John Blake type guy who’s heart is here in Norman…. That is if there’s staff changes.

  • CastorTroyBoy says:

Very Impressed, great Job by Coach Stoops and Monty staying on this kid and impressing his family. I give credit when it’s due!

  • Richard Gray says:

    Is dewayne orso transferring?????

  • OUZach says:

Thoughts on where Haughton is leaning?

  • SoonerFah says:

With Texas taking Jefferson, does this help push Wheeler to OU?

  • Easton says:

WOW. Wow. Fellow Sooners, this is exciting, this is exciting. How about it.

  • lebval15 says:

Highest rated linebacker commit since Ronnell Lewis and Tom Wort in 2009.

    • Indy_sooner says:

Lewis could’ve used that extra year. Same year as the Mingo LSU dude that go drafted 6th overall. Hopefully players are listening to T.Jefferson’s words

  • Easton says:

No, Charlie is not messing. Glad you pointed this out. He is going to get his, and we better be gettin ours. DeBerry is a big time recruiting victory.

  • Josh says:

    BOOM!!

  • Jim says:

Sorry, I’m late to the party. BUT, thank you dear little 8lb., 4oz baby Jesus! WE CAN FINALLY HAZ A LINEBACKER!!!

  • cdubs says:

    Lampkin Tweet:

    “January 7th‏@DeeChilllin
Me & @CammNewtonJr still got a surprise coming late january”

@CammNewtonJr is Nate Dalton. Could it happen? FWIW, Lampkin has also been tweeting lots of pro-Texas stuff since Jefferson’s commitment.

  • EasTex says:

    Good news, indeed!
    B00MER S00NER Mr. Deberry.

  • Mr. Jones says:

If by chance we landed Gallimore and Campbell, would we still have room for Lampkin?

  • OUknowitscomin says:

Great news on DeBerry! I was convinced when I saw the table of hats he was coming to OU. I even assessed the fact that it was closest…but on his right hand side. Being most people are right handed, I figured that was on purpose to grab easily and put on. Yes, I am now a recruiting expert 😉 Boom!

  • pitbull17 says:

It’s about time we get a highly recruited LB to come into SoonerNation! Coach Montgomery is worth his weight in gold if you ask me. Now give me a couple more stud LB’s, get rid of Kish and a couple others and I can start getting excited again.

  • rphokc says:

…..congrats to mont for his hard work being finally rewarded……….at some point, I would like to learn why deberry didn’t go to bama

    • Defend Colfax says:

You’re answering yourself. These are 18 year old kids. Kids from strong families like stability. Monty is a mentor and he gets young men excited to play football. Nick Saban is a funeral director.

  • cdubs says:

Love this. Mbanasor tweet to DeBerry:

@PeterJayy_2: @TheFranchize__ Oh helllllll yeaaa what???!!! Let’s go!!!

  • Guest says:

    YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

  • Zack says:

Pj and Humphrey going ham on twitter. Let’s see if it pays off for haughton.

  • SoonerfanTU says:

Be a pretty dang nice day to land both DeBerry and Haughton.

  • AmaGoh7 says:

Every single coach, staff, administrator etc, whether here next season or not, needs to keep that fire in the belly roaring or get that fire in the belly roaring again to coach and recruit like they never have before and return OUr Sooners to their rightful place atop the college football world. We are OKLAHOMA ! We take a backseat to no one. That’s the spirit. They will love it and so will all the fans.

  • bjwalker82 says:

What more can you say about Monty. *Pumps fist*

  • sooner44 says:

Thank you Santa (Monty)! Please don’t forget a Wheeler in the stocking.

  • Daddy R says:

Welcome Mr. DeBerry, and Boomer Sooner!

  • ejtjr says:

Should Shannon, DGB and Mixon all play next year, we are talking about a different team. Shannon, probably our best all around defensive player, Mixon a threat out of the backfield, and DGB along with Shep, gives us the best receiving duo in the conference, even better than BU.

  • Phat Khong says:

With Stidham now going to Baylor – what are the chances of Ketchum opening up his recruitment? I know he was on our list at one point – is he still a player we would go after now?

    • KellyB says:

looks like Kish was his recruiter although he played QB at Houston Lamar. intriguing thought if we can go back after him…possibly with a different coach

    • DCinAZ says:

Have a feeling Seibert is going to become a fan favorite real quick when he arrives. That kid has moxie and ain’t afraid to talk a buncha trash.

    • Jed says:

“I think I love this boy.” – Doc Holiday

    • Jim says:

Seibert reminds me of that cocky punter Florida had quite a while back, maybe early 2000s area. Dude was always running down after kicks hitting people and getting in faces of opponents. Guy was not scared to start $h!t. I liked that guy.
I can see Seibert hitting a bomb and then turning to the Texas sideline and giving the “Suck it!” gesture. The one where you slam your crossed arms over your lap.

  • Kyle Roach says:

I will be shocked if Kahlil Haughton doesn’t go with baylor..

  • AlvinMack55 says:

One can’t help but wonder if there’s something to Haughton announcing that he’s committing today, shortly after DeBerry puts on an OU hat.

  • Mr. Jones says:

Over 200 comments before noon. Making it hard to get work done today.

  • Cory Reedy says:

**Breaking News**: LB Ricky DeBerry has been downgraded to a 2-star recruit after Oklahoma commitment.

  • F1at1ined says:

If we were to land Haughton on the same day as DeBerry, it may be one of OU’s biggest days on the recruiting trail in recent memory (in terms of nailbiting but successful pursuits of premier players). I know Mixon was huge but he is just one player and at a position of luxury. Two elite defensive talents on the same day would be immense.
Does anyone know if Haughton is good friends with either Malik, Stidham or DeBerry? I do wonder if an earlier committment today pushed forward his announcement. Here’s hoping he still hates Waco.

  • Jordan Esco says:

Have been asked by several people on Twitter if DeBerry will be an early enrollee. And it is my understanding that will NOT be the case.

  • Glocal Sooner says:

Just dreaming a bit here between announcements. It appears that we have roughly 6 spots left in this class. That could vary depending on Frank Shannon, David Smith, DGB, McNamara, Mixon and a few others that we’ve heard about but I’m thinking about 6.
If we could land any 6 of the following, I’d be happy: Kyler Murray, DeSean Holmes, Jalin Barnett, Josh Wariboko, Gabriel Campbell, Neville Gallimore, Du’Vonta Lampkin, Darrion Daniels, Arthur McGinnis, Anthony Wheeler, Anthony McKee, DeChaun Holiday, Nate Dalton and Kahlil Haughton.
That’s 14 guys. If we could just land 6 of those, it would be sensational because at the end of the day, it’s about execution and these guys can execute! BOOM!!!

  • Doobie74OU says:

And here I thought this was a “RECRUITING DEAD PERIOD” It seems ALIVE and well to me! Great Morning now I Can’t wait till 3pm!!!!!!!!

  • JB says:

Sweet! Some much-needed good news! Welcome aboard, Mr. DeBerry!

  • Boom says:

Can we make sure the #44 remains on a LB, not a punter. It just didn’t look right to me. DeBerry, you like #44?

  • Jordan Esco says:

Figured you all would enjoy this pic (via Scout).

    • Glocal Sooner says:

There’s a short video interview with him out there as well about his choice.

    • Randy White says:

jordan, I see Daylon Mack decommitted from A&M this morning. Any chance for us?

      • Jordan Esco says:

        highly doubtful

      • Stephen Dale says:

Randy………………..D Mack is headed for Austin TX.

        • SoonerFan11 says:

Yup, rumor is he wants to join Jefferson in Austin

          • Mysterio1 says:

Strongs class is really shaping up. This guy is going to get Texas turned around. And believe it or not, this will make Oklahoma better too.

          • roygbell says:

I agree with you, however be careful as their are lots of fans who don’t see it like we do. OU is best when we have strong competition from our long term rivals.

          • red clay says:

texsa exists to help our strength of schedule and furnish an undefeated opponent for us to beat in the RRSO.

          • JB says:

Losing to Texas is never helpful. Beating them is.

        • Randy White says:

          Thx!

        • Swanny says:

It’s kind of weird, but I really like this. We need Texas to be good. It elevates the entire conference, and it’s a quality win. Rising tide raises all boats.

          • Dustin Madson says:

I completely agree. A strong Texas is good for OU and the Big 12. As much as I love winning 4 out of the last 5 and absolutely annihilating them in 11 and 12, watching their mediocrity has bought me considerably less joy as time has passed. I’ve been to the past 8 red river rivalry games and I really miss the days where it was a perpetual top 10 match up. Big 12 championship and national championship hopes on the line in October with everything on the line and the eyes of the entire country locked squarely on the Cotton Bowl. When OU and Texas are at their best it is the BEST rivalry in college football without a doubt. That kind of exposure and attention is so valuable for OU and the Big 12. I still want OU to kick their ass every year but at this point I’m rooting for Texas to become an annual National Championship contender once again. I’m really glad they got Malik and McNeal and i hope it gets them some momentum. Better them than the damn Aggies.

          • Stephen Dale says:

I’d rather see texxass continue to struggle….never like seeing texass good in anything……………………….

          • Dustin Madson says:

Trust me I’m from Austin and I hated UT more than anything. Got so much crap so often haha. I really enjoyed how miserable they were but this has gone on to long. OSU is the rival I wanna see in mediocrity forever lol. But I just want UT to be really good again cuz it benefits us and the big 12 and so the RRSO can be how it used to be and so we can crush their national championship dreams

          • JB says:

With Strong and his staff leading UT and us with what we have, I don’t see too many season crushers for Texas in the immediate future.

          • JB says:

Never will I be disappointed with UT mediocrity. It’s been fun to watch, while it lasted. Unfortunately, Strong is a quality coach and will make them good.

          • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Don ‘t like it. Unless OU ramps up the passing game I don’t like Texas getting elite defensive players.

          • JB says:

Unless your boat’s name is “Kansas” or “Iowa State”.

5* Gladewater DT RT @DaylonMack: I have decommitted from Texas A&M and I will be releasing my top two schools around noon Saturday!

    Welp….

  • Zack says:

2 new crystal ball predictions have haughton to ou. 62% still Baylor but let’s hope they’re wrong.

  • Zack says:

John Houston released top 5 with ou in it.

  • Jeremy Phillips says:

Daylon Mack just decommitted from A&M.. Releasing top 2.. Thoughts are between TCU, LSU & UT..

  • Jordan Esco says:

    Shine comin’ off Sumlin doe

  • Stephen says:

I just woke up. This is a lot of information to take in.

  • Stephen says:

Also saw Stidham is going to Baylor, not saying there was cheating but that was an awfully fishy turn of events in Baylor’s favor.

  • Stephen Dale says:

I can better understand why Lampkin might be looking around again ; Daylon Mack has decommitted from aTm and will probably commit to the Horns. Lampkin has been recruited over by C Strong…..

    • Brian says:

I know Mack and Jefferson were really tight. There may be something to it…Mack has always seemed on the fence. OU needs a stronger Texas!

  • DCinAZ says:

Dede Westbrook ‏@DshizzzNitssss 3m3 minutes ago
@Kahlilhaughton come join the OU family bro you’ll be a great fit!

    Dede doin’ work.

  • NewMex Gaucho says:

For all you Kish haters….DeBerry………”Really for me I just wanted to get to learn the position from Coach Kish,” DeBerry said. “He’s cared about me throughout the whole process so I know he’s going to teach me the right thing and everything I’m capable to do so I can do it well.”

    • Randy White says:

Haters will still be haters! Nice to see Coach Kish making an impact with the young man.

    • Fear the Magic says:

If he lands at least 2 more QUALITY LBs I might consider becoming an UnHater.

      • L'Carpetron Dookmarriot says:

Ignoring the players he has signed.

        • Bill Duncan says:

He’s got 9 players since 2012. Out of which Dom Alex and Tay Evans are the highlights. Tay is an OU legacy so I’m not putting much stock in that one. Not saying he’s a bum, but he needs to prove more than 1 LB in when we have a HUGE lack of depth at the position. Not even mentioning Monty’s help getting DeBerry

    • SoonerFan11 says:

Not gonna do him much good, would surprise me if Kish is still here next year…. I would go all in for FL old DC…..

  • j l says:

is deberry a natural OLB? hes 25+ pounds heavier than our current MLB’s.

    • Defend Colfax says:

      Football Jesus says yOUr welcome

    • Randy White says:

According to his HS coach they used him all over the place including running back. I think OU sees him as an OLB.

    • Glocal Sooner says:

I’m not completely sold on us using the 3-4 defense. I could be wrong but I’d like to switch back to the 4-3. In DeBerry’s interview, he mentioned that he likes the fit with OU because we play a 3-4 defense. Not really answering your question but just thought I’d throw that out there.

  • Josh says:

Just hoping a little bit of good news can get some y’all to stop with this…

  • DCinAZ says:

    Stole this from LT

  • Soonerfandave84 says:

Seen 5* LB John Houston(huge longshot) OU made his top 5. And Daylon Mack decommitted from aTm, hoping this causes Kyler Murray to give OU serious consideration

  • Jordan says:

How likely is it that with the decommitment of Daylon Mack that Kyler Murray could also follow? Hopefully he would seriously consider us, he could probably fight for a first string job from Day One.

  • F1at1ined says:

Not at all expecting Mack to look at OU now, but for him to back out after repeatedly wanting to step up and be a recruting leader for the Aggies 2015 draft class, that has to be a serious problem for them. I dont expect Mack, but am wondering if anyone else sways now he has decommitted. Especially if he was a big reason they were verbally agreeing.

    • SoonerFan11 says:

This is the kind of stuff we want…. Players can make a significant impact recruiting other players…. Boomer!!!

  • OU has closers in recruiting. Monty, coach B, Gundy, Norvell and surprisingly Mike Stoops Bob, of course, is an excellent recruiter. Where OU is lacking is having a complete staff that is all in, when it comes to recruiting. If ou could get 2-3 more guys, on staff, that go all out in recruiting, they could recreate the days of 2000-2010. That’s up to Bob to make that happen, though.

    • DCinAZ says:

Agreed. Think we’re only just now starting to see the recruiting prowess of coach B and Monty now that they’re settled in and establishing themselves in their regions. 2016 could be BOOMtastic!

  • Glocal Sooner says:

Anyone have any thoughts on Jay Boulware? I feel like we’ve discussed all the other assistants quite a bit on here other than him. My personal take is I don’t really have a take. Ha! He’s obviously the TE and ST coach. Our TE’s have been down before he got here and we really haven’t used them much since he’s been here. I have zero clue how much he helped in Bell’s transition and development over the year. It appeared to me that Bell looked good at route running and pass catching. Not sure if that was his help or just Bell. Other than Bell, we really didn’t see anything from the TE position this year.
On special teams, we were strong with Ross on KR but our PR was nonexistent this season and Hunnicutt struggled. I’m not sure whether any of that was on Jay or not. Just curious of everyone’s thoughts. Someone may have some insight into the program that I don’t. I really haven’t heard much about him this season. We obviously had some really big ST plays last season. We gave him credit for some of those.

    • DCinAZ says:

-PR issues were based on not having any dependable WR’s that could catch a ball IMO. Neal, Young, Quick, and Smallwood all dropped balls repeatedly this year.
-He can coach TE’s all he wants…..but he can’t insert them in the playbook.
-Hunnicutt’s struggles were just that……..Hunnicutt’s struggles.

      • boomersooner says:

exactly right on hunnicutt. you can’t coach a ball through the uprights. it either goes in or doesn’t. also hard for a coach who never kicked to talk to a kid about the mental side of kicking. you’d have to have a dedicated kicking coach or shrink to help with that.
i think you nailed the other issues too

        • DCinAZ says:

Yep. I think Boulware has done a good job. Our kick return game this year didn’t suck at all and nobody will kick to Ross anymore so there’s that. Sanchez was just out their to field punts because he has better ball skills than any of the WRs not named Shepherd.

Hunnicutt will have a fine career in the NFL. He just had the yips this year for whatever reason. Kickers have strange psyches.

    • Zack says:

I don’t think boulware is doing a bad job but unfortunately he has a tiny role on this team because all special teams calls to through bob. And the TE role has been non existent.

    • EasTex says:

Hopefully he will have a new addition to the punt return tool box with one Aaron Sims coming in as a preferred walk-on. He is just like Jalen Saunders, only smaller.

  • Phat Khong says:

Seeing that TAMU fired their O-Line coach. Wonder if that will spook any of those big offensive lineman to start looking around again. The guy did a great job recruiting but the o-line got the blame for TAMUs losses to finish out the season. I know we offered Sutherland, Lanfear, & Elbert – I know we are looking good on our O-Line now. But I wonder if there is any opportunity here.

We now only need 5 more from this list that I posted earlier.

It appears that we have roughly 6 spots left in this class.
BOOM!!!

    • Brent says:

I have a good feeling about Kahlil Haughton on your list.

      • Glocal Sooner says:

Ha. I was hopeful for him. With him, we only need 5 more of those other 13 guys and we’ll close down an incredible class.

    • Zack says:

There is about 8 spots left IMO. We have 18 and I believe there will be 26-28 open. Now where would they take those 8, who knows? Gary may have a list of who’s left and who we have a good shot at landing.

      • Gary Robbins says:

On 12-15-14 I listed 22 athletes of interest to OU. To date OU has DeBerry and Haughton. Four athletes have went by the side: C. Virgil, M. Rankin, M. Jefferson and Darrin Kirkland. Best feeling of the 16 left: G. Campbell, N. Gallimore J. Barnett, A. Wheeler, A. McGinnis, A. McKee, J. Reid, and N. Dalton.
Perhaps of more importance is OU commits to date seem to be in for the long haul.
Just a pure guess after an extended ” happy hour(s)”

        • Zack says:

If we say 8 spots are left, we need 2 or 3 linebackers. If we only take 2 watch for the 40 front to come back. If we take 3, then I can’t imagine we take more than 2 of (Campbell, Daniels, gallimore, LAMPKIN, Neal) on the dline. Then Nate dalton. I see 6 on defense and 2 on offense. And if another spot opens take Reid if he commits.

  • Jeff says:

    Finally some good news!

  • Randy White says:

Is M Stoops on twitter? If so, it seems odd he wouldn’t respond to these defensive committments. If not, it seems odd he wouldn’t be just to seem relevant to these young men. #confusing

    I like this young man.
My best wishes to him as a Sooner and a citizen.

  • Defend Colfax says:

  • gametime says:

Are any other OU prospects expected to make their announcement pre-Christmas?

  • soonerbred4ever says:

Texas High school championships are on now Fox Sports SW. Our preferred walk-on Aaron Sims all 5’5″ 125lbs of him and Camron Doe won their championship game and I think they said he had 163 yds & 2 tds

    • EasTex says:

He was the Offensive MVP of the championship game, 6 catches 160+ and 3 TDs.
He is very talented and exciting to watch.

      • Jed says:

I haven’t watched him yet, but am having a hard time understanding how a frame that small can bear the punishment.
Eastex, do you think he’ll be more than a novelty in D1 football?

        • EasTex says:

You have to see him to grasp what he is capable of.
He will always be diminutive, but there is just something about him. He is not only fast and quick, but seems to have different gears and can separate from defenders when he wants to. He has some of the best hands I’ve ever seen and his timing when going up for a pass when he is covered is astounding.
I could see him being a terror on punt and KO returns, also in 4 or 5 WR sets, but not as an every down player. He would never be able to provide the blocking our WRs are required to perform.
He is extremely competitive…I emphasize extremely, and he actually needs to reel in his feisty nature. He was unafraid to go face to face with any player and it cost him a personal foul after he caught a TD pass.
Trust me, if you saw him play you would like him.
I’ll be pulling for him, he could create some sleepless nights for DCs and DBs.

          • Glocal Sooner says:

I know Q was really small and just checked his numbers. He was 5’7 and 195 lbs. Guess that’s quite a bit bigger than this kid. Sounds like this kid could be good. Just needs to add a few pounds.

          • EasTex says:

The announcers in last night’s game said he was 135. It’s possible the 125 was his program weight at the start of the season. Regardless, he will add weight and fill out, but will never be a bruiser of bodies. His abilities could make him a bruiser of egos, though.

          • Jed says:

I’m just thinking that I used to gain/lose 25 lbs between football and wrestling and getting slammed to the mat was much more jarring at the lower weight. it just plain hurt more. Clearly this kid is way m ore athlete than I ever was, but still, having a Gabe Lynn come up and ‘drop him’ and it might be the last time.

          • EasTex says:

I don’t know what his chances are, but he does have some skills and you can’t coach speed.

          • Jed says:

True? Barry always claimed that it was his coaching genius that made his running backs run fast.
Now, he could have been being facetious…..

          • Sooner Ray says:

            That boy can smoke!

          • EasTex says:

That was regionals and look how quickly he and the other guy separated from the pack. That separation is just like what he was doing to DBs last night.

          • Randy White says:

This might change your mind. http://www.nfl.com/photoessays/0ap2000000359532

          • Jed says:

I’m not against the young man, just don’t want him hurt.

          • Randy White says:

Gotcha! I just hope he gets a chance and lets see what he can do.

          • SoonerSouthoftheRed says:

Sorry, I am sure I missed something in an earlier post, but is Sims going to OU?

          • Randy White says:

            Preferred walk on.

          • EasTex says:

He is listed as an OU commit-preferred walk-on.

          • boomersooner says:

he’s not half their size, but the way you describe him, if he can even be half the player of d jax, sproles, or welker we’re in for a real treat. thanks for the description. sounds like a winner

        • akryan says:

It’s the height. He’s pretty short, so that 125lb is a lot more solid than it sounds. He’ll probably put on another 20lb when he gets here. So, while he’ll still be small, he’ll be a put together small. remember, he’s been getting hit by D1 bound kids his entire career. He could be a DAT type player.

      • soonerbred4ever says:

Thanks East Tex. I wasn’t sure what his stats were. I can’t hear thunder anymore. I can’t believe I just quoted my wife. Anyway, I’m glad he’s coming to OU.

        • EasTex says:

I’ll be pulling for him, it could be boom or bust, but he doesn’t seem to be afraid of anything.

  • Fear The Magic says:

  • Puma says:

Hoping to see a domino effect of linebacker commits now that the first one has happened with Deberry. Big selling point to 2015 class is with the fact we are so thin at linebacker right now “you will not be competing with the best” but instead “you will be playing with the best” attitude. Would be nice to get some big names to buy into that.

  • Puma says:

Not to say I don’t want competition. I want competition because we are so deep with talented players. But we need to get to that point of depth

  • Kody K. says:

Exhilarating day for us OU fans. I let go of some stress today for sure!

  • Mr. Jones says:

After today’s tweets I think it’s safe to say PJ is locked in on OU.

  • hOUligan says:

So wondering if the decommit of Dylan Mack from AM is having any effect on Lampkin. Thinking is, Mack is headed to Austin which might be getting crowded.

  • Phat Khong says:

With Haughton on board, are we set at DB? or are we still hoping for another commitment to finish out the year. Of course, I’m certain we would take Iman Marshall, Ykili Ross, or another one of the big guys if they twisted our arm.

Looks like our primary targets are a couple of Olinement, DTs, and LBs each – am I right.

    • Zack says:

In the secondary I’ve been hearing Kareem Orr and Nate dalton a lot. But the wild card I think will be jaylon lane. I bet some teams start reaching out to him when the dead period is over. By then I think a lot of kids will be verbally committed and lane’s situation may clear up a little.

    • Stephen says:

Likely not, I think we take one or two more DB’s before it’s said and done. I would say most of the offensive recruiting is nearly over (obviously they would take some guys if they wanted to come here) but I think it’s mostly defense from here on out.

  • gametime says:

Does anybody know if any more OU recruits are expected to announce their decision before Christmas?

    • Zack says:

McKee was supposed to announce today but he decided to wait until a later date, I have no clue when he might decide now. I think Barnett and Campbell may be any day now kind of guys, I don’t think either have an all star game.

  • OUknowitscomin says:

    Boom chugga chugga Boom! Boom!!

  • Zack says:

I decided to browse the 247 board (don’t have a membership) but there’s a guy who apparently has inside info on changes being made going into next year. I guess he’s giving it to long time posters. One replied to the group saying fans will like the changes.

    • Randy White says:

      Do tell!

      • Zack says:

I don’t have the info. Just wanted to share what was said. I bet it’s the same info tfb has heard but people want to be discrete I suppose.

        • Sooner Ray says:

Zach, I’ve noticed a couple comments about PJ saying some good things on twitter today. You’re my twitter feed, any info on what was said?

          • Zack says:

Hey was excited about deberry committing. Haven’t seen his about haughton but many have reported they spoke of playing together so he seems to be rejuvenated. Also it’s his birthday and he’s retweeted a bunch of fans today.

        • JJSoona says:

Falstaff rationalizes “The better part of Valour, is Discretion” from Shakespeare’s Henry IV, Part I.

I would agree with this wisdom.

    • soonerbred4ever says:

Zack, that was me that said your going to like the changes if they actually come to pass. I don’t know where he got his info and I didn’t ask but i do know he is a professor at OU. I was asked not to give the info to anyone else and I agreed. Be patient we will all know soon enough.

      • Zack says:

No worries. I shared that so we could speculate and see who gets close

        • Stephen says:

Think I heard something similar with the names Ed Orgeron or Tosh Lupio, if that’s what you heard.

          • boomersooner says:

            tosh lupio or tosh.o?

          • Stephen says:

Either would be solid hires, in my opinion.

          • EasTex says:

Uhh…I don’t think having Tosh.0 in the men’s locker room would be a good idea.
            /just sayin’

          • Stephen says:

In hindsight, you’re absolutely right, Tex. Thar must have been the egg nog speaking.

          • Zack says:

Haven’t heard any hiring rumors. This inside info seems more like someone is leaving but not heupel. Which is fine with me, the question is who. I think more than one but I’m thinking norvell is moving on. The reason I will speculate norvell is because we all know the offense isn’t as good as it could be, he’s starting to get some of the criticism for that. And why would a guy who’s a solid recruiter need to take Cale with him to visit newsome?

          • Stephen says:

You make a good point. The rumor I heard from a good source involved Monty to LB coach. The names listed above to DL. It’s just rumor that was passed along, so take it for what it’s worth.

          • Bob Edwards says:

That would actually make some sense. If Monty wants to be a DC, having coached more than one position is a positive. Also, given his recruiting skills, it would help out the LB position.

          • Zack says:

I think they need mike to get another job. And possibly promote Monty to DC. And let him bring in guys he knows at linebacker and secondary coaches. I know a lot of people are high on viney who’s a GA but is he ready to become a full time position coach?

          • Stephen says:

I’m all for that. He’s been awkwardly quiet lately, a sign maybe.?

          • Zack says:

I’m not sure. Something tells me mike was more busy than we saw. Maybe calling guys or something. Obviously he needs to be watching film though. I just think he needs to move on because this was only supposed to be temporary for him to rebuild himself as this defensive master and it didn’t work here. But maybe it would work somewhere else or maybe someone would give him a job at a smaller program.

          • Sooner Ray says:

I’m thinking he could build a top rated defense in the ACC.

          • Zack says:

Sounds like you’ve seen that movie before.

          • akryan says:

Pretty quick on the gun to move Monty to DC. He’s seems like a really good DL coach, and seems to be a good recruiter, but I don’t want to make a Heupel mistake and promote a position coach before he earns a few more stripes. It’s a huge jump to go from coaching a position to running a defense.

          • Zack says:

Well that’s only if they promote from within. Monty may not even be on track to be a DC any time soon. But if he is on track to be a DC, if I were him I would have a hard time having someone hired above me from outside.

      • boomersooner says:

don’t care about who but can you say…before bowl game? after bowl game? before NSD? after NSD? did you even hear this much? and if you can’t, you can’t. no worries there

        • EasTex says:

          Patience, grasshopper.

        • Zack says:

Writing a story?? Kidding I want to know too. But I would think after the season.

          • boomersooner says:

hey that’s my line. i always ask if someone’s writing a book. 🙂 dammit i need new stuff. yeah. its tough. if you do it before signing day, you might lose someone unless they already know. if you wait til after, its a little shadier but you keep everybody

          • Zack says:

I know a lot of us want bjw to retire. And most could care less about kish but depending on how this class goes I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt. I said that early on he’s got to get it done this year so I can’t call for his job unless he proves he can’t recruit. He’s got his work cut out for him but if he could convince Houston and mcguinnis then I’d say give him a raise.

          • Sooner Ray says:

I’ll admit I have been leaning on Kish but after today, I don’t know if I want to rock that boat just yet…….just sit and watch for a minute.

        • soonerbred4ever says:

I would logically say after NSD, but what the hell do I know? I wouldn’t have kicked the ball again to Tyreek Hill either.

      • rphokc says:

when I was still with oui, I remember an active poster who was also a prof……had some good inside info sometimes…..not connected, seen some rumor around that there’s thoughts of a stanford influenced o perhaps, fwiw

  • Jeff says:

I guess it is good OU made Houston top 5 but probably a U$C lock

  • Sooner Ray says:

I hope texsa does what they’ve done in the past, pull the softies off the top so we can get at the good stuff. 🙂

    • Zack says:

I think there’s something to Texas taking the “top” guys and letting the next level guys end up at OU and elsewhere. I think they burn a lot of guys who want to stick it to Texas when they get a chance.

      • Sooner Ray says:

It does seem that the guys who get out of that state really want to stick it to them, which is usually good for us.

  • Shelby is a Patriot says:

    Awesome! BOOM!

  • boomersooner says:

funny how the “sec channel” dot com(espn to the layperson) has a headline about the mack decommit and when they were in the big 12, no one would have cared so it wouldn’t have been put on there. now, no one cares but its on there. funny what 2 billion gets you these days….high school journalists who only care about if corn is in lebron’s deuces, what manziel had for lunch, and how many people can we brainwash into thinking southern fried football is better than any other brand

  • KellyB says:

Just want to say how much I appreciate the wit and wisdom of EasTex

  • Zack says:

Looking for linebackers to go with deberry. This kid looks good. I think someone may have mentioned him before but I don’t understand why we’re waiting on a guy like wheeler when this kid is going to northwestern. Now if school is more important than football for him then northwestern is a great choice but I’d like to see him at OU.

  • Shelby is a Patriot says:

Stidham flipped to Baylor? Man I missed a lot.

  • Sooner Ray says:

We may need a new thread for the rest of the weekend. Been a big day.

    • EasTex says:

      Indeed.
Game 1 at noon tomorrow will have Wilson’s alma mater Temple(of funky pants fame) versus Aledo.
Temple hung 70 last week in the semis and could have easily scored 100. I expect a high scoring first game.
Game 2 at 4p.m. is the one I am looking forward to, Katy vs Cedar Hill. Third year in a row they have met for the state title.
Game 3 at 8p.m. is Allen vs Cypress Ranch. I expect Allen(#2 in the nation) to win.

      • Sooner Ray says:

After tonight’s good action, I really wish I could watch them all tomorrow. Got a lot going on with family, might be worth some DVR space.

        • EasTex says:

I’ll have the dvr going, too. So much to do and Christmas is just 5 days away.
          /dang

          Hasta luego.

          • Sooner Ray says:

That’s what we’re doing tomorrow, jumping Christmas early….but hey, we’re a Sooner family and that’s what Sooners do. Jump the gun and grab the gifts early! 🙂

  • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Now we need another two LB’s right? Anything else? DE?

  • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Het TFB, any news about Danley?

  • Daryl says:

TFBs first thank you for all of the info and updates. You guys did a fantastic on what was a fast and awesome day. Thanks so much.

Secondly, what do you guys know about dalton wood. I was listening to radio and they said he was an absolute beast in state playoffs. But would love your input.

Lastly I was noticing on Secpn that after yesterday we have 9 top 300 guys. That is almost half our class. Coaching g may have been bad this past year but have to admit that recruiting seems to be better than previous years.

    • Glocal Sooner says:

Hey Daryl, sounds like he tore it up at QB this season. Here is a writeup TFBs did earlier when he committed. It tells you more about him. https://thefootballbrainiacs.com/dalton-wood-commits-to-oklahoma-sooners-football-2015-recruiting-mcalester-okpreps

      • Daryl says:

Sorry took me a while to get back to you. Thanks for the link I had forgotten about that article.

I hate comparisons but kind if reminds me of Trent Smith from Clinton, OK. Just loved OU and just made plays.

Being an Ada Cougar alumn it pains me to compliment a McAlister Buff but I like the kid being a sooner.

        • Boom says:

POTAC! You spelled McAlester wrong, C’mon man. Dalton Wood is the under the radar guy this year. 6’4 260 and runs a legit 4.7 if not better. He’s young, won’t turn 18 till graduation. Still growing and will be a dandy TE/H-back. Ada has been quiet for a while, they used to put a lot of guys in D1.

          • Daryl says:

Like I said I like him. I think he will be great, but obviously not rated high and not tons of offers. I have never cared to to spell that town correctly.

Ada has been quiet for a while but I never lost to those buffs so it’s all good. I stood on the sidelines and played garbage time with the Ada greats!

          • Boom says:

They did have greats, it was a factory for a long time. My dad started taking me in 1967 when i was 6 and never missed one till i left for college. 2-1 against them and they were always good. I started all three years and they were some of the best games. Always respected Ada.

  • Brad Warren says:

Great day in recruiting! Beat Clemson and get ready for 2015. Boomer!

  • Glocal Sooner says:

I thought this was interesting. Don’t know if anyone else has seen this but TK9 this season has the 7th best QBR among all FBS QB’s. The 6 above him are Mariota (Oregon), Sims (Bama), Barrett (Ohio St), Marshall (Auburn), Hill (aTm), and Kessler (USC).

    • JB says:

Yeah, just ahead of GT’s Justin Thomas who throws maybe 10x a game. QBr is about the most worthless stat out there. What would be a really useful stat is #of Pick 6s thrown per game.

      • boomersooner says:

Trevor threw 2 more pick 6’s than you have optimistic posts. Everybody’s entitled to their opinion but uncle man. There’s some of you guys that need to lighten up or move along

  • EasTex says:

Final three state championship games in Texas today.
Here is today’s DMN report on the action.

Mack might be a worse announcer than he was a coach

  • rphokc says:

geez, the cbb, ncaa’s may be a joke this yr………..kentucky is leading ucla at half, 41-7

    • boomersooner says:

i would guess there’s no way cal’s not cheating. you don’t get that much talent without some kind of bag man. hope we don’t end up in their bracket, unless we get em late, maybe elite 8. they’ve got platoons they bring at you and seems like 12 guys are 6’6 or bigger. spangler would be a shooting guard for em 🙂

      • albsooner says:

I live in KY and would say that Cal is not cheating. There are so many eyes on Cal and UK that if there was ever any semblance of an infraction, it would come out. Cal is like Saban although I would argue far bigger in his field than Saban is respectively.

        • boomersooner says:

yeah. i’m from memphis. there’s always rumors. i love OU hoops but have followed memphis forever, hell since i was a kid and kirk and finch ran the show. just kinda shady to me with the whole thing. memphis has a pretty decent tradition but obviously has nothing close to UK, but its the whole sec win at all costs thing. i’m definitely not saying you’re wrong but it would not surprise me in the least if he got busted some day. just like any football program in the sec, it would not surprise me, but i betcha if we could see all, they would have so many levels of buffers to protect themselves…just my 2 cents, which won’t getcha nothing 🙂

  • Zack says:

I thought newsome was announcing a top 3 today. Anyone know what time?

    • Hotrod33 says:

He is announcing Tuesday @ 7:30pm. Releasing a his top 3. Not sure who but we’ll find out then.

I have had little time for the puter this weekend.
Sure hope we can get some practice notes and quotes before the team leaves for Orlando.

      • Boom says:

Practice notes would be good stuff. First weekend since mid summer since my kids didn’t have at least one or two games. Same here, did a lot of daddy chores that have piled up.
