This is really more recruiting, but I wanted to put it at the top for a reason. Scummiest of scumbag moves on the part of Mississippi State & Dan Mullen. I hope they’re never able to sign another Texas kid as a result of this. Which I know will never happen, but Texas h.s. coaches are definitely a tight-knit fraternity and I won’t be surprised if this does hurt Miss. St. recruiting in the state. As it should. (Tweet is from the young man’s h.s. coach)

‘Certainly, Stoops must know deep down that he’s just not appreciated as he once was at Oklahoma, where fans have booed the team this season.’ Pretty casually takes the ‘booing of the team’ out of context, but otherwise makes the same case everyone else seems to be making. That 16 years in one place is probably too long. (Orlando Sentinel)

OH HELL YES!!!
Movie looks dumb, but I’m cool with looking at Blake for 90 minutes.
Always good.
Disturbing on so many levels.
This is outstanding.

I detest it when colleges pull scholarship offers, and it sucks even more when it’s short notice. I dont know much about Chason Virgil but one imagines he has spent a long time interacting with what he believed would be his new fanbase and teammates, and now this happens. If you extend an offer and accept a verbal for so long, you honor the damn thing. You don’t cherry pick your best apples. If you offered him a scholarship and he accepted it, it should be binding or the college should suffer major recruitment violations. If they had allowed kids to sign LOI earlier in the recruiting process, one imagines Virgil would have been signed and locked in and been protected from BS stuff like this. I hope Virgil latches on quick to someone else and ideally gets to spend the next 5 years sticking it to Miss State.
If I’m Hugh Freeze at Ole Miss, I’m at this young man’s doorstep first thing this AM. A motivated QB with a chip on his shoulder towards your in-state rival…..priceless. Will be pulling for the kid (no pun intended)
Sorry for double post but wanted to make a different point. Can a coach overstay his tenure at a college? Does he become stale? When you consider the later years of other coaching legends like Bowden and Paterno (the football side, not the scandal side), you could argue that both great coaches who had built legacies at their respective colleges were stale. Neither were at a point where they were legit title contenders and it had become normal for them to secure a bowl game and maybe 10 wins at best. Is OU in danger of being at that point with Stoops too? For me personally, am a Bob fan but I do feel he needs to make some coaching moves to show us he still has the fire.
How old were Bowden and Paterno? How old is Stoops?
Ding-Ding-Ding.
I think Stoops is around 56. Tom Osbourne was around 55, 56, 57 years old, I’m not sure, when he won his first of three National Championships. In fact, he had been a coach at the school for thirty years when he won his first NC, but head coach for around 20 or so.
This 16 year thing is ridiculous. It’s all relative.
Here’s a jab at the NCAA: Will Chason Virgil be eligible for a scholarship with another team? Will he be ruled ineligible? This is the wrong thing to do by Miss St. I hope other recruits see this and sign LOIs with other teams on signing day. OU has honored scholarships for players who had career ending injuries in high school.
Seriously, this impacts the young man’s future. Is there a spot for him somewhere else? The NCAA should step in and tell Miss St. that unless the kid did something wrong, they will honor a scholarship that was offered and accepted.
Yes, he’s eligible & will get a scholarship from someone.. Maybe even OU, depending on Knight’s injury..
Jeremy, I was being silly. I was referring Baker Mayfield.
I knew what you were saying, but I do wonder if the young man had signed a grant in aid?
MS ST probably thought the recruit from Tennessee was superior to the Virgil guy and decided not to waste a schooy on him ; Mullen decided the kid was talented enough to play in the Little 12-2 but not the SEC…..
The NCAA would have to go through ESPN for their punishment approval. Since Miss St is an SEC school, ESPN will tell the NCAA to chill and go focus on Florida St.
That was funny.
Lol…. Nice
If I’m not mistaken one of those kids ou has honored may be a graduate assistant also. So ou has done things the right way…it’s too bad the right way isn’t talked about as much.
Looks like Mullen really is an Urban Meyer disciple!
I think everyone is over-blowing the “booing” thing. Stoops has been around 15-16 years and this is the first time HE or the TEAM has been booed. That’s a pretty good record, really. I realize that a lot of fans are hyper-sensitive and truly get offended by silly things like booing. That’s the nature of fandom and the Internet in particular. And I don’t particularly care for booing myself, though I think the Baylor game warranted it. But…you don’t get to where Stoops is without having some thick skin. And I don’t even particularly think that the “Stoops has been at OU so long things have gotten stale” argument holds any weight. If that were the case, then there are 3 coaches that would still be here, and we certainly wouldn’t have BB or JB or JM. Not to mention that he’s going to face the same or worse scrutiny elsewhere…and without all the cachet he’s built up in his 15-16 phenomenal seasons at OU. Stoops may be a lot of things, but he’s not stupid. And he certainly isn’t Saban. But…to each his own, I guess.
The players play better and the coaches handle gameday game management better, then little or no booing……..There is a difference between losing to a far superior team versus committing the same mistakes over and over and over and losing games that should not be lost. The booing is a result of the latter situation rather than the former.
I think personally that losing to Baylor bites, but it’s understandable given that Baylor is a really good team. But when you have to see us throw up our arms in defeat, like that first drive of the 2nd half, it’s hard to swallow. I’m not saying this should be our strategy all the time, but I’d rather have seen us blitz every single down for the rest of the game and get beat over the top than see what appeared to be just giving up. It would have made more sense to me, anyway. Because if you’re doing that, then you’re trying to make something happen…a turnover, a sack, whatever. As opposed to just giving them a completion and hoping that you can tackle them.
The coaches always used this approach against Tech teams under Leach to great success.
Yep, and 2008 was one of those games. Like I said, blitzing all day long isn’t a full-time strategy. But if you’re getting your butt kicked on defense and your secondary is struggling, you might as well make the QB pay for it.
I was there and people were booing the coaches NOT the players. I even heard people yell after they boo’d “THAT WAS AT THE COACHES”. It was obvious to me that it was never directed at the players. Although debatable, I think most would concur.
https://twitter.com/DshizzzNitssss/status/535809673010892801
Would be nice if he pulled the trigger over the weekend.
I don’t really get a good sense of where this kid is trying to go. Seems to be enjoying the process from what I can tell. With jucos they can sign sooner than HS kids so he may pull the trigger soon.
I think it’s possible
Chason’s film is pretty impressive
http://www.hudl.com/athlete/441236/highlights/15261378
At 6’2″ 170 I question if he could hold up as a DT QB in D-1.
Not a fan of the shouting!
I think you meant, NOT A FAN OF THE SHOUTING!!! 😉
Loud noises!
The Chase Virgil incident has the MSU fan base in an uproar too.
http://forums.sixpackspeak.com/showthread.php?135279-MSU-parting-ways-with-Chason-Virgil
The Orlando piece wasn’t too blatant an attempt to try and get Coach Stoops to consider UF, was it?
I’ll take a “stale” successful Coach that runs a good program over a “fresh” unknown Coach anyday.
I agree on the coach, East Tex. People had given up on Osborne and Bowden right before they reeled off a few championships.
I used to live in Florida and no one “gave up” on Bobby Bowden prior to the 93′ Title. He pretty much put FSU Football on the map.
Yes he did. Great coach and genuine. One of my favorite coaches.
“IT WAS LIKE A NIGHTMARRRR” LOL
Typical SEC mentality. One good season = tradition. LOL at the comments that he’s just not good enough for them. Talk about delusional.
Shouting at players is a non-issue with me, as long as it isn’t used to tear down or embarrass a player.
OTH, slapping a player’s face on the sideline does bother me and yet the Va. Tech coach did just that on national TV about 8 years ago and he is still their coach.
Well you can do that or you can peacefully get across your point by telling him what he did wrong and what he needs to do better. Its all about personal opinions. I find coaches like Snyder/Marvin Lewis/Sumlin pleasant and easy to root for while the antics of coaches like Muschamp/Saban/MStoops start wearing thin on you (especially when they are not delivering results). Ofcourse I realize there is a plus/minus to both and its about to the individual player to take it as a positive and improve/not repeat his mistakes.
It does vary according to personal preference, coaching style and player attitudes.
I had an old coach that had the practice of pulling us out of the game if we screwed up and would grab our face mask and twist our necks. Hated it when he did it, but he always let us know shortly after that how much we meant to him and the team. I would usually take the anger I felt from that and use it for fuel to plow my opponent.
Some players wilt from coaches antics, others use it as motivation.
“others use it as motivation.”
good stuff. i want as many of these guys on a team as i can get. to me its the kids that get coddled at home and are given a trophy for participation that will cower. i don’t understand celebrating mediocrity. if you can’t handle your “feewings” getting hurt by getting yelled at by a coach who loves you and wants nothing but the best outta you and for you, then maybe try a spelling contest cause football may not be in your future. if you can’t face adversity from a coach, how will you face adversity on the field or in your career(if it be in sports)? they may be slightly different things, but, in essence, are the same.
Sometimes you’re playing and screw up and they pull you out. After a good chewing, they put you back in and you’re more focused. Often times kids believe their eyes when they’re supposed to believe their coaches eyes. Don’t do what you see, do what I tell you to do and we will be good. Hard at times.
yep. i try to equate it to military(except not like winslow…haha) in that they train you up because you’re the one that has to make the plays. i’ve never been in the service, but the training and practice are similar, except for that whole getting shot at thing. what i mean is, you get the training in the military and it has to be perfect and you have to follow it to a t or you will end up not alive. same for sports…you get trained up and once on the field its on you to follow your training to not die or not get burned or whatever else. if a guy’s 8 for 10 on first pitch heaters down and in, probly don’t throw one there
In the two arenas, I always believed the worst thing that could happen is your buddies get hurt when you screw up.
As for baseball, I was a catcher and loved talking to the batters to try and gauge who they were and how focused they were. Hitters that didn’t respond at all, they got nothing over the plate.
Kind of what LT. Dan told Forrest, do what I tell you and you will live!
Play assignment football and you will make plays.
wasn’t that LT Dang? 🙂
Danged ol’lyin’ eyes.
Feewings? FEEWINGS?
Now you’ve done it.
I want Humble Pie and “Thirty days in the Hole” tomorrow to make up for that!
Maybe Texas Flood or The Sky is Crying the way the weather is looking.
I’ll see what I can do.
How about Okie-Dokie Stomp
My Coach was a yeller, he would yell and it would make me work harder.
Most kids today just don’t care to put in the work.
If you’ve been playing sports for your whole young life it really shouldn’t be any big deal.
When you sign to play for Coach Saban, you know that he is an in your face coach, nobody should be surprised.
“especially when they are not delivering results” Yup. When you are, yelling demonstrates “passion and intensity.” When you’re not, it’s “taking your frustrations out on a player.”
I like for my DC and my O-Line coach to be on the other side of sane personally. When I coached DBs the after practice film review in the coaches office was must see TV even without volume. When your secondary guys are not getting lined up properly, aren’t communicating, and keep making the same mistakes things are going to get animated.
BJW was on Coaches Corner last night and said the reason MS was yelling at Jordan Thomas at the end of the game was because he went to sleep on the last play of the game for a TT TD.
No coach should ever just ignore when a young player makes a mistake like that, last play of the game for a meaningless TD or not.
That Key and Peele Aerobics meltdown is epic…
The music & their faces is what got me. I feel like it’s something a lot of people “wouldn’t get” but it cracked me up.
Jordan and think we have the same odd sense of humor.
+1
While the cameras like to catch Coach Mike rip into players what the camera never sees but what I can guarantee you is happening is when he puts his arm around the kid later and encourages him and gives him some atta boys. I have some of the closest relationships with the kids I’ve ripped the hardest and loudest. Hell most the time we look back and laugh at how crazy I was acting at the time. When a coach stops yelling at you is when you need to worry!
Right. You get on the ones you like more, because you care. Although it’s a given that they don’t always see it that way and you do need to take the time to move them aside to tell them you expect more because they’re good- not because they’re bad.
Watched OU Coaches Corner last night and Coach Gundy said that Keith Ford picked up a turf toe in the BU game which would explain his limited action in the last two games. Also that Ross tweaked his MCL in his first run against TT. Sure hope Sooner Dave is ready to go this week.
On another note, I can’t begin to express my disappointment that we haven’t heard a word from JY this past week.
disappointing yr for ford and ross……..ford with injuries and ross with perhaps not having his strengths used though both did have bright spots…….might throw flowers in there also for a used up yr for not much
EasTex what she we look for with CT’s progression? He’s more of a dropback kid so I’m guessing his 3 picks last week were 1st game jitters??
Two of his picks were just bad plays on his part which he owned up to, the third he was baited by the CB. The INTs are easier to remember than the numerous excellent throws he made. Two excellent 3rd and long passes for 1st downs in the first half scoring drive and the perfectly executed TD pass in the 3rd qtr on 3rd and goal.
His history going back to being a 4yr starter in high school says he is more of a pocket passer, but can run when he needs to.
Personally I don’t want to see him run much, but the game situation will determine that.
He seems to see the field well. I agree that his good throws were really good. That TD pass to Neal was script perfect and fast thinking. He has a really good arm and his throwing motion is crisp IMO. The reps and gametime action will only help.
I expect him to improve with more playing time.
I really like his athleticism and attitude.
Sooner Dave and Optimus Perine will hammer away at that line!
I wanted Sooner Dave last week, especially after seeing Samaje limping around. I want him every week to give the other RB’s a rest and show what he can do. He’s an exciting back with true football speed.
Hated seeing SP limping. Sure hope that ankle is good to go.
There should be no hesitation in playing Sooner Dave, he is a baller.
I’m not new to this board but my old account got hacked. I’ll never understand hacking anything. Does MYOB not count anymore??

More like spoilt than spoiled. :0
That’s how it was spelled when I grew up but somthin happend.
The difference between spoilt and spoiled is the same as between nekkit and naked
holt or hold
Naked is having no clothes on.
Nekkit is naked and doing something…adult.

Any clue about this?
Are there character issues with this kid?
One tweet says he was recently arrested for criminal mischief.
Do you think we have a shot at him or is there something else going on that we don’t know about. Maybe there is a lot of in fighting that we don’t know yet.
Ohhhhhhhh snap!!! Don’t play MStoops!! Get this kid on campus!!
His arrest may slow stoops down
Shoot! Didn’t realize he got arrested! But what I do know is that OU won’t out up with too much. OSUcks in the other hand…. I just hope a kid isn’t judged by 1 bad decision, ie Mr. Mixon. I believe in second chances. Maybe a change of atmosphere is what he needs. I believe OU is the perfect place for him!!!
Blinn JC isn’t too far away.

He’s done for tonight, I would imagine.
Yeah pretty much
Tellin you mixon will leave if this kid graduates early and is here in the spring. Anderson is being overlooked but I think he will be every bit as good as mixon.

I think it’s safe to say this will be the worst crowd in Norman since stoops has been here. Tickets are practically being given away @ less than $5.00 on stubhub.
And with a delay I expect this to be ugly.
If I wasn’t working I would go
Low interest game along with foul weather, who can blame them.
Hopefully the boo birds are the first to stay home.
But but but….I pay my own money and I can do whatever I want and they were mean to me first with the bad product they put on the field
But…but…Big Ol’Butt
Don’t make me break out Beaker again. :}
I would love it. But maybe we don’t wanna start pagans day off on the wrong foot
I hurt that ol’boys mind with that one.
Hopefully I made up for it.
How bout some skynyrd this morning? Can’t go wrong with skynyrd. Good if you like em
A little Swamp music would fit well this morning.
Yep and I know a little
Make you tied to a “whippin” post in honor of A.D.! Heh. What? Too soon?
Weather is messing my day up.
I was going to pick a friend up at the airport this morning at around 8:30. His flight is now delayed until about 1:30. The only station I can find in Dallas that carries the Sooners is a weak am station.
DVR don’t fail me now.
http://www.kdoe1023.com/ has a live stream for your phone or PC if that helps. Their pregame is on now.
I saw a story that seats on the 45 weren’t even wanted, but he finally received 10 bucks apiece for them. I expect we might get the most empty stadium we have seen in a very long time. I think our players need the support but a lot of folks seem to see it as a statement to the coaches and intend to stay away.
That’s just stupid. Go support the players!! Hope they get the game in before I have to go to work.
I live north of Tulsa so I won’t be going. But it’s sure messing up my beer-thirty time.
In the event the muppet video harmed anyone else besides paganpink, here is an attempt to rectify the effect.
Gary Moore
Loved his music! BB King-esque.
Better! Still missing Humble Pie though! Different vibe. How about “It’s my life” by Eric Burdon and the Animals? That’s B.A.!
Everything is gonna be all right this morning.
Just finished listening to Muddy Waters-Manish Boy.
Thinking this might be Mike Gundy’s theme song at Okie State.
Do you think he leaves?
Lots of rumors floating around. He has flirted with leaving before. Just depends on what T. Boone wants.
Yeah! After being asked about how he felt about Gundy, T. Boone was quoted as saying he’ll support the team “I don’t care who coaches ’em” and Gundy says “I don’t need anybody to tell me they like me or dislike me. I don’t really care”
Mike needs a personal comment aid type of person. I’ve never ever seen anyone shoot himself in the foot so much.
Or maybe “Hey Joe” by Roy Buchanan! Awesome! A real guitar God!
miss him
So, they’ve now moved the game up to 11am, is that right? I thought this one was supposed to be a 2:30 kickoff. Or am I just wrong?
Supposed to be an 11:00 am kickoff. Pushed back to 12:30 due to weather.
Looks ugly on radar.
http://www.accuweather.com/en/us/norman-ok/73069/weather-radar/330127
Indeed it does. Looking more and more like 2:30?
At this point only the Good Lord knows.
Those storms are continuing to weaken and they weren’t severe to begin with. We have only received about 1/4 to 1/3 inch of rain in the metro so far. Don’t be surprised if there is light rain and no lightning anywhere within 20 miles of the stadium.
So will we have a game thread today?
If one doesn’t show up, we’ll do it right here. I’m a “just get it done” kind of guy.
Indeed, you B that Ray:-)
Watching the Fox1 alternate game until kick. Nick Holt, defensive coord. for W. Kentucky, ha s a pretty hard defense. Press coverage on a spread offense that goes long a lot. Interesting to watch the physcality of a force you to throw it, versus a bend not break philosophy of defense. UTSA gave Arizona a real run for their money October.
so i’m watching the nebraska game and they show highlights of ohio st. rece davis shows the highlights and says that ohio st has beaten indiana 18 straight or whatever and goes on to say how he’s gonna go ahead and call it 19. its 14-0 1st qtr, lots of football left. be a journalist. report what’s going on in sports. we don’t need your take on the game, just show the highlights. anybody else find this type of thing obnoxious? or is it my hatred of espn and rece davis in particular?
what i wish is that ohio st ends up losing and that goes viral and rece davis gets punched in the mouth for being a doucher
Joel Klatt is speaking out against these SEC non con scrimmages this morning, he is seeing, hearing, and speaking.
FCS week for the SEC. And yet, the conference is still projected to get two playoff seats. Nobody west of Fayetteville is buying it, ESucksPN.
Hopefully this doesn’t get lost in here, but 4* LB Anthony Hines decommited from Miss St. and Crystal Ball now has him as 100% Sooner.
Just checked out his Rivals page. His offers list almost covers the entire alphabet.
Yeah, haven’t seen any film yet but you’ve got to assume it’s legit.
Huh…..is there going to be a game thread today?
Welcome to the rain thread.
…..bbell is out………thomas better stay healthy………perhaps mcnamara gets to step on the field for actual plays this yr, maybe even a pass……wow!
