The Path to Norman
Davon Sears, a Michigan high school product, took a long route to OU. Sears attended JUCO (Ellsworth Community College in Iowa) for two seasons. He then transferred to Texas State prior to the 2021 season, redshirting in his first season on campus. The following year, he was a big part of the Texas State defense.
Sears decided to enter the transfer portal following the 2022 season. He received an OU offer in late December, 2022. The Sooners were not alone in their pursuit, however, as programs including Tennessee, Penn State, USC, and Ole Miss all offered the lineman.

Oklahoma continued in its pursuit, however, and within a few short weeks of the offer, Sears committed to the Sooners.

Career so Far
Sears started his college football career at Ellsworth Community College. He earned All-Iowa Community College Athletic Conference and first-team all region honors in his second season.
In 2021, Sears took a redshirt season after transferring to Texas State.
2022 saw Sears play in every game for Texas State as part of a defense that ranked 22nd in the country in rush defense.
Sears’ first season in Norman was relatively quiet. He saw action in the first three games of the year, but none after that.

This Season
Defensive tackle is a spot with a lot of talent, but relatively little playing time in crimson and cream. TCU transfer Damonic Williams and the returning D.J. Terry will be major factors, with Gracen Halton, Sears, and several promising freshmen vying for snaps. The opportunity to see significant playing time is certainly there for Sears in his final season in Norman.
