Obviously it isn’t just one thing.
It’s the entire team, coaching and players. In some situations I don’t think the players are put in position to succeed and other times I see players make (too many) mistakes when they were in position.
At other times I have seen opposing players just make outstanding plays.
I agree and would add that it’s the coaches putting the players in those positions/situations. Just very disappointed.

Had MSU gone undefeated that would have meant the only undefeated team in the sec, bama would have had 2 and maybe another one, auburn would have had 2 or 3, lsu 3 or more and nobody in the sec east was gonna have fewer than 2 losses and then lose in the ccg to undefeated MSU. By virtue of the won loss records the pageant committee would have too many one loss teams to chose from.
Now? Who knows, but if bama finishes with one loss you know they are going.

I think that because everyone knew going into the game that TT can’t stop the run, yet we came out throwing in the first half and were terrible. Then in the second half we only threw twice I believe and we scored 30+ points. And everyone that’s watched heupel call a game knows he wants to throw it 50 times a game so the second half playing calling was the exact opposite of of what he likes to do.
“Everyone” is incorrect.
Should we throw when the box is stacked? Yes.
Should we throw on a 1st and 20? I would.
Should we throw on a 3rd and 16? Absolutely.
Should we throw to run or run to throw? I prefer balance.
Are passes more effective when the defense expects run? Ask Durron Neal.

1. The tale of two halves speak for themselves. We threw the ball 17 or 18 times in the first half and threw 3 INTs and were out scored 14-7. In the second half we threw 2 or 3 times and scored 35 points. That’s the numbers.
2. My comments about heupel were about his play calling in general, over a period of years. So pointing to a few series in one game to justify passing plays is absurd.
Well perhaps over the years, SOME of the play calls have been justified by situational football. I’m not trying to give him the assistant of the year award, I’ve seen my fair share of horrible play calls and game plans the past two years. I’m not ready however to say that JH never tries to adjust with some of those adjustments being also unsuccessful for whatever reason.
I keep hearing that the players are executing poorly and I agree that they are, but at some point do we have to examine if the game plans or the teaching of the game plan is/are the issue. Are the coaches giving our teams game plans that they can execute. We’ve seen a lot of games over the past several years in which we have had major breakdowns in execution.
A game plan is presented early in the week and plays with personnel groups are practiced. I can’t say for certain if the plans are good or bad, or that the players have been given proper preparation. I can say that penalties, dropped passes, interceptions, getting beat by a WR while looking back at the QB are not things that are a part of that plan.
I’m not a coach, I can only rely on the coaches to do their absolute best in getting the team ready. At the same time I expect the players to do their absolute best.
Adjustments have to be made during the game and then adjustments to the other team’s adjustments have to made. I think a lot of it comes down to confidence and experience. I still like this team, but I think they are lacking in both confidence and experience, especially in the secondary and at QB.
Great points. Thanks for your insight. Discipline in our defensive backfield has not been a strongpoint in the past several years. I hope we get that figured out.

Well said, sometimes the game completely dictates the gameplan. I guarantee any offensive coordinator would be crucified if he kept running the ball on 1st, 2nd, 3rd and long over and over.

The one thing I saw improve the most in the second half was the OL blocking. They had to have made some adjustments at half, because I can’t remember how many times the RBs were stoned at the LOS in the first half.
Aaron Ripkowski had the second half of his life, basically clearing out the entire TT defense when the tank wasn’t dealing out pain.
I was well pleased to see Rip included in the game plan, blocking, running and receiving. Wish we would have utilized him more in all those roles.
Same, looks like something they’ll use the rest of the way though.

Won’t be ou. Even though the starting job is for the taking. I think we found out that this is more of heupel problem than a knight problem. If he’s not able to be the qb coach and coordinator then they need a new qb coach at the very least.

And it’s not to say he’s bad at either but he’s not good at doing both at the same time. I know he can develop qbs I just don’t think he can do it while being the OC but I wouldn’t say he won’t be a good OC, I just don’t think he can under the current circumstances.

Cody thomas for his first start looked very good,but the defense is some different almost 500 yard’s to tech 75 on last drive.major changes in the off season is needed for the defense.overall it was a good win when you realize cody was making first start go sooner’s

i would say pretty good, especially for a 1st start. when they made him tanneyhill and not brady, it seemed to serve him well. i liked the calls, such as bubble screen 1st throw to get him going and get his confidence up, but pointless to call a 1st down? throw at their 5. he’s REALLY good at play fakes(all qbs need to watch manning b/c he makes it a point to carry out a handoff and a fake in the exact same manner-its a point of pride for him, he brings it up often)

We won bc we ran the ball the entire 2nd half. Durron Neal could have been QB and won the game.
He’s got some zip on his passes. But I liked his running. He made some good decisions on the ground. Hopefully the passing will come in time. I can’t say I’m disappointed. He did ok for his first start, aside from the picks and not being put into the best position to succeed in the first half.
OUr inexperience in the secondary is showing this year and the scheme we are playing is making it lot for worse than I think it is. What do we have out there. Sanchez-Soph, Parker-Fresh, Byrd-Soph, Thomas-Soph, Hayes-Sr, J.Thomas-Fresh. This is a young secondary and hopefully will get better. This is why it is important to play your 2nd team and 3rd team guys so we can have depth and reps for these players. We all agree that there should be some changes and I think this secondary will be better but when. As frustrating as this was today, I will take the win. Need a lot improvement for this defense.

Turned off the game right after CT’s second INT…the game plan up to that point was pretty abysmal. Glad to see an adjustment to run. Hopefully Miami can pull off the upset (not that I want to be construed as rooting for Miami though). Is it just me or does it seem like forever since OU has won the turnover margin in a football game?

It’s been rather sad how many picks we’ve had in the last few games…I seem to recall Landry making some pretty bone-headed INTs in the past but it just seems like we have a plethora back-breaking INTs recently.
yeah nobody seemed to like landry but i liked him just fine. he did seem to kinda start the whole “whoopsies” on inopportune picks and pick 6’s. i think its capt obvious but its much easier to return a pick for a td than pick up an oblong object off the ground and run it back and we are built to be a run 1st team right now…use your boys for what God made them to be. you got road hogs followed by rip and/or bell followed by a bigger MJD(perine), mcfadden(ford), and smaller eddie george(ross)

The very next day on the NFL merchandise web site you could buy Vick items including, and there was an image…A DOG SWEATER. Just got around to watching the game. Obviously, Perine is the story, but I was really impressed with how well Cody Thomas was able to run the fake. It was faking out the announcers.
His fakes were smooth and so is the way he runs.

Said it last week, he’s a better fit. His mobility is more functional to rein in, it’s the outfielder range…. He’s also a more durable frame IMO… Not that it matters lol

Had to watch the game on the dvr, this evening, and so I had to hear the tv announcers. Matt Millen’s commentary/analysis was so annoyingly bad that I almost had to turn the sound off. I usually like him, ok, but he and his partner were just terrible.
Anyway, I loved how the game turned out. Cody made some big errors, but he made some nice throws as well. Thought the use of Cody on the qb run plays was inspired. Concerns about the defense remain…, duh, but they did make some key plays down the stretch.
I think artificial furf should be outlawed. Too many injuries.
