Tuesday night was the defense’s turn to meet with the media.
– Mike Stoops started by addressing what kind of changes they hope to make going forward. He said, “Our coverage wasn’t tight enough for a guy like Petty. He gets the ball out there so fast and the ball gets there quick…there is a little bit of a give and take when you tighten up…you become susceptible to their speed on the vertical routes.”
– Said that the first half went exactly as they had hoped, but when Baylor came out in 4 and 5 wide sets in the second half, “we didn’t adjust as quickly as we needed to.”
– Mike talked about Julian Wilson’s status for this weekend. He said that Julian hasn’t been able to practice so far this week, so his status is still up in the air. If he can’t go then one would assume Jordan Thomas will get the start.
– Mike said having the three safeties in the game worked out really well. He praised Steven Parker in particular. Also said that Ahmad Thomas and Quentin Hayes played well. He said that they had to get more speed on the field, so they moved Parker to the deep safety spot.
– He was very upfront about his frustration with the extra guys being on the field.
– Also said that having Baker Mayfield is a good asset this week. Mike said that Baker understands their coverages/routes and has been beneficial to OU’s preparation for Texas Tech.
– Mike was very classy in how he responded to questions about what happened between him and Julian. He said that a lot of it was just frustration and he said it was good to see the emotion from Julian. But in general was very diplomatic about it and felt that it was just something that happens when things are going right. He said, “the way things were going Saturday, we’re lucky it wasn’t worse.”
Players
– Eric Striker told the media that they don’t have time to dwell on the past. They’ve got to be ready for what’s coming this week. Also, insisted that the team has come out with good energy each and every week, regardless of what the end result may show….”we love to play this game.”
– Dom Alexander said it was “frustrating” not being able to affect the offense in the first series of the second half. He said that they tried to be blitz and get there but “it was a lot of quick game” which didn’t allow the pressure to get to Petty. “There really wasn’t much we can do.”
– Dom mentioned that “communication” is the issue when there are too many men on the field. This is something the coaches have said as well. It sounds as though perhaps the call is coming in a bit late so the personnel are being notified a little later than they need to.
– Dom echoed the sentiments of the coaches, namely that “they didn’t do a good job of executing the game plan” which led to the defenses inability to get off the field.
– Dom sounded confident for Texas Tech. He said “we’ve got a great game plan and we’re going to do a great job of executing it.”
– Charles Tapper said, “for the most part we dominated those guys (Baylor) up front.” But also said that the loss, “hurt…they (Baylor) executed their game plan way better than us in certain aspects of the game…those guys came out with a better hunger than we did.”
– Tapper said the message this week is, “we’re still the University of Oklahoma…we’re still fighting for our pride…we gottta go out there and fight like we’ve got nothing to lose.”
– Tap said it hurt bad to get beat that badly in front of the OU fans. He said it “kinda killed our soul…we lost hope.” Then went on to say, “right now we’re just fighting for our pride and the University of Oklahoma and the great people that came before us.”
– Tap said that all the defensive units are having leadership meetings and that there is going to be competition at every position.
– “We’re upset with ourselves…to go out there and get dominated like that.”
– Tapper said the key to getting better is trusting the coaches and listening to them and doing whatever they ask because “we know they’re going to put us in the right situation to win games…we’re going to stick with the coaches and fight for the guy next to us.”

Coverage wasn’t quite tight enough huh Mike? I wonder how my girlfriend who knows nothing about football was able to point that out on the first drive of the 3rd quarter, and you, somehow weren’t able to see it until yesterday. Pretty funny guy you are mike! Pretty funny.
Man, Tapper got me in the feels when he said it killed their soul. I’m right there with you brother, fight on.
It can be easy for us as fans to forget how much all of these players and coaches have invested in their team. I am confident they are all giving their absolute best and it kills their soul when they face the disappointments of the last five games.
Last week was worse than TGOWWDNS. Time to move on – at least we don’t have to wait 8 months to play again.
Thought Mike got FSU’s game plan from Mark when he visited Norman. 3rd qtr looked eerily similar.
Huh?
Talking about the series with FSU. Mark Stoops was their d coordinator. Referring to what we did to them back then.
Edit. Makes sense now. Thanks
When FSU came to Norman, Mark Stoops (their DC at the time) played with soft corners 7-8 yards off of the line of scrimmage. Landry took us down the field for 2 or 3 TD’s because Mark never adjusted. It was a clinic as we picked up 5-7 yards a pop. Go back and watch the first quarter of that game and it will look like BU’s opening drive against us last weekend. Bummer
I remember that game and it does sound eerily similar now that you mention it @plaw0720:disqus
You’re right. Looks pretty similar, even though Landry was lethal when on a roll
I hope everything they are saying is sincere, but on what Tapper said, the coaches did not put them in a situation to win the game. Not IMHO
A lot of contradicting soundbites in this report. And typical defensive Mike Stoops. One moment he sounds like he’s right on the fringe of admitting his game plan was idiotic, right before he starts justifying his actions.
I hope ‘tighter coverage’ isn’t meant like it’s said. If you are going to blitz, corners need to bump/run to delay routes long enough time for blitz. If Mike gets corners 3 ft closer, but still 5yds off….they’ll just get burnt deep. Watched Mich St game finally last night, they mix with some corners bump run and others few yards off on any given play
Mike is delusional.
Time to start drug testing the coaches.
Coverage wasn’t tight enough Mike? If it were any loser, the DBs would have needed a ticket for the stands.
Lol =)
Press coverage gives an opportunity for a blitz to be successful! I’m hoping they at least play press more often, especially when blitzing, mix it up and have fun.
We didn’t respond fast enough? Hell, you could see it in the film room what the hell did you need someone ending you a telegram don’t lay off 10 yards on 3rd and 1.
Thanks for the report.
Glad to see the coaches and players are committed to improving and winning.
I now return this thread to the ongoing ‘pity party.’
They were committed to improving and winning after TCU…..and KSU. We are just not seeing any results or improvement, changes in the soft coverage etc… This is more alarming than the losses.
The game plan was terrible, feel for the players
“we didnt adjust as quickly as we needed to”
Huh Mike? You mean you never adjusted at ALL.
See this is what I dont get. He’s supposedly a top notch DC at a top notch university. He can see as plain as day what their offense is doing ( Hell even us amateurs could ). His defense is getting burned on practically every single play and he doesnt make a simple adjustment by moving the corners up on their men especialy when we’re blitzing. It just makes no sense at all.
If I didnt know better I’d be thinking that he went to Vegas and put a $h*tload of money on Baylor!
My question is this. Did Baylor do anything different than they have all year? It was all right there on tape. Why is Mike acting like he shocked by something they have done all year?
I’d much rather go down in flames playing all-out aggressive defense instead of just laying back and taking a whipping. I think most fans are upset about this more than anything else.
LOL…makes me think of, “I’m going down…in a blaze of glory” – Jon Bon Jovi
AMEN brother !!!!!!! keep preaching, maybe somebody on the OU staff will repent and change their ways…………
AMEN, AMEN, AMEN!!! WVU’s sorry defense blitzed Baylor all day and beat baylor by 2 TDs. I think we could have expected at least a similar result. If not, so be it. We actually would have done something that had a chance of succeeding.
Charles Tapper: sorry for the booing on your home field. I don’t care if people were booing the absymal play calling on defense OR NOT, these players felt that like a kick in the gut, and what on earth do you think the recruits thought?
They thought oooh early playing time.
Saw several players on twitter after the game ranting about people leaving early and proclaiming they felt “disrespected”. THIS….after they go out and show a total lack of respect for their themselves and their home field. These kids feel entitled to respect even when they’re embarrassing themselves and that’s not good.
…..they were ‘disrespected’ by bu…..
But the boos were for the coaches. The coaches dropped the ball in this game and vs tcu and kstate. Yeah the players need to execute but it’s the coaches job to put guys in the right place to execute and they have failed in that aspect. The only player I can really criticize is knight because he’s the qb he’s supposed to be the leader and unfortunately at this point in his career he can’t put the team on his back like Landry could and hang 40-50 points on opponents.
The players felt the boos wash over them. They are the player’s coaches, not some disconnected group of men who magically appear on the sideline each game, they are with them all year, each week and each day.
Most men would be very angry if their Dads/brothers were attacked, they would view it as an attack on themselves.
In my 58 years of following OU football that was the absolute worst I’ve seen the home crowd behave and if that is to be the trend going forward with loud, disrespectful, “entitled” to win fans then it is a sad day indeed for OU football.
Yep. Your team is your 2nd family. Gotta protect family
As I’ve said before, blood and sweat create a bond like nothing else.
Keyboard clacks and pixels, not so much.
Speak for yourself @disqus_BeW3hegp9d:disqus
I’ll speak for whomever I damn well please. And one of us is speaking from experience…. here’s a hint….it ain’t you
*cough*ankle-biter*cough*
Haha. This guy just keeps sticking up for his negative nellie buddies. Just a bunch of sister boys sitting around having their wine and cheese parties and throwing poo at the wall and seeing who’s sticks first
Now you’re a wise old sage? Lol!
nope. what i meant by “your team” is the team you play on. meaning i played sports for the past 32 years, 15 professional. so, the team you play on is your 2nd family. so i’m speaking from experience, not just spouting off at the mouth like internet tough guys
Now you’re a professional athlete? Lmao @disqus_BeW3hegp9d:disqus! Bravo sir. Bravo!
Post like a champion!
believe whatever you wanna believe and no i’m retired.
Post like a douche!
Oh of course you are @disqus_BeW3hegp9d:disqus………….
If you think that’s bad @disqus_UrrKRweCfL:disqus just wait till the fans stop showing up altogether.
I agree and bob alluded to that in his press conference.
Also I’ve said for years our fans are horrible there are a lot of fans that have season tickets as a social token but could care less about the program. I’m honestly surprised at the success we’ve had at home under stoops because our home crowd isn’t much of an advantage, I think it was the mystique that helped us to that incredible home record more than the crowd.
It’s very rare that teams fear Norman because of the crowd. So if those fans who weren’t “graced with awesome football” want to stop going that’s perfectly fine with me.
Not showing up is an example of their displeasure…fine, that’s their prerogative and I encourage them to use it.
Booing is detrimental and disrespectful.
Playing the devil’s advocate role: It’s hard not to show up when you have thousands invested in season tickets. That’s just throwing money away.
You little devil, you.
That entitled attitude is just ugly. Agreed, sad day. ‘I have a right to bash players because I buy tickets’ mantra is just so juvenile to me. Sure, you have a right, now use your freakin brain before exercising that right.
Tear down players, many of which are simply following instructions from coaches.
Juvenile mentality. But hey big boys, it’s America & you have the right.
Go troll some 18yr old FB accounts while you’re at it, it’s your right. Free country!
Sad.
thank you. its obvious to me that they are just trolls. there is no way in hell you can think that way. if you do, you deserve to be met in a dark alley each and every night until every single player has had his turn beating you into oblivion. that was my beef last night too. man up. boo in someone’s face…see what happens. say the things you say on here in someone’s face and see what happens. some people just need a whuppin to wise em up
Thank you zack i have said the same thing it’s the coaching that is bad not the player’s god bless
These player’s.
I don’t think that heads should roll but it’s obvious that heupel as a play caller is not his strength. He did a good job developing qbs when that was his role. But now he has to develop qbs and an offense which just hasn’t worked out well consistently.
And mike should consider going to a 4-2-5 which would still allow him to get the best athletes on the field but then offenses can’t scheme against him with wide splits and completely neutralize the defensive line.
You truly are a troll. Or just haven’t played a lick of sports in your life….high school does not count, church league does not count. These kids bust their butts year in and year out chasing a dream. For TRUE fans, they give everything they have. For fairweather pieces of crap, they have no time. Maybe you should respect them because they have more talent in a pinkie than you do in your entire existence. On top of all that they don’t get paid. Maybe some day some of them will become lucky enough to get paid for their talents. You should feel lucky enough to have a team with this much history, this much tradition and this much talent. You should be embarrassed for getting on a bunch of college kids who are trying their best….or did the leaving early thing hit a little too close to home?
I didn’t say I got on to them. I said I noticed they were tweeting about feeling disrespected by people leaving early during a home game blowout loss (as if that’s something new) in which they played poorly and clearly quit. I find that a curious mentality. But it’s good we have you here to decide who’s a TRUE fan and who isn’t.
If I demand respect from my clients when I perform poorly at work, they laugh and request somebody else handle their projects and I get fired. Welcome to the real world.
feeling disrespected does not necessarily entail entitlement to respect. also, you use the word “work” meaning YOU GET PAID. and if you or a lot of these “fans” who post here and other places demand respect from anybody, i’d probly tell you to get bent too. and on top of all that, if you feel entitled to anything, such as a freedom to post your drivel, which is nothing more than derogatory, then these kids have earned every right to tell you how they feel about your fairweatherness
Whether they get PAID has precisely dick to do with how they play. You keep bringing that up like it’s a point. It’s not. These players have never been PAID for playing football at any point in their lives.
For the record, I was a 10 year season ticket holder who sat through the last two years of Blake’s abysmal tenure and well through Bob’s and never missed a game regardless of opponent or foul weather. But HEY, let’s not allow for any facts here when we have a tired old “fairweather fan” narrative to spin.
and yet you’ll fell free to bash em….neato gang
I DO feel free to “bash em” even though that’s not at all what I’m doing. I paid good money for years in season tickets and merch. I’m the fan that showed up every saturday for 10 years rain, sleet, or snow. That means I’m the customer. Customers review products they purchase every day, good or bad. What world are you living in?
the one where these college kids are trying to fulfill lifelong dreams, so they can reach the NFL, not get run down by people who’s lives didn’t turn out the way they wanted. you wanna pick on someone do it to a coach who GETS PAID or a professional who GETS PAID. let the kids chase their dream. also i live in the world where the brainiacs used to be a site where there was no bitching and moaning. where it was talking x’s and o’s and listening to what guys WHO ACTUALLY PLAYED THIS GAME to a higher level than most tell us what they think. now its turned into landthieves and all the others because people feel the need to run coaches and players down to make up for their own self loathing. but it seems you’re gonna tell me all about how awesome your seats were and the weather report which must have been a really bad spell of weather when you had your tickets. i bet you walked uphill both to and from the game didn’t you? all that to let me know that you will do whatever you want….awesome. some life you must lead to rag on a bunch of 18-21 year olds to get your jollies
LOL!!!
College football is a business, chief. And teams (especially OU) are a product. One of us can wrap our mind around that, and one of us clearly can’t. I’m both a fan, and a consumer. I will bitch about the product if I choose to do so. Who are you to demonize other people’s opinions about the Sooners just because they don’t toe some pollyanna line you feel is necessary to protect their feelings? These are football players dude. They’re not insecure beauty pageant contestants and they hear far worse from their coaches in practice.
PS: I’ve been with Brainiacs since the start and never has there been a time when this site was bitching and moaning free. Some of the posts from the contributors themselves are full of bitching and moaning, with some X’s and O’s mixed in.
demonizing?…haha. i’m demonizing your opinion? oh you poor poor baby. and my point, sport, about you bashing people to make you feel better about yourself still stands. obviously, hoss, its not gonna strike home, so this is it. someone is wrong here and it ain’t me. you’re bashing people and i’m trying to tell you that ain’t cool when its kids. how would you feel if it were your kid? what if i were to come to your kids pop warner game and boo, is that cool? or would it have to mean i’d have to buy a ticket? it is a business, i’ll give you that. but its a business between us and the school/athletic dept. the kids are the players putting it all on the line. they have SQUAT to do with the business aspect of it. pretty sure that’s obvious..apparently not. yes they are football players who play for free or for an education, if you will, but they are there for football and a shot at an awesome future and a fall back. most, lets say 90%, won’t make it. lets leave the booing and stuff at home. you can and will do whatever you want, so i’m not trying to tell you what to do, but the only people who are feeling entitle are you and the turds that feel the need to tear someone else down to feel better about your own brutal existence.
and i too have been here since the inception, but there just happen to be more and more of the nellies, in the world for one, and now on this site too. so now yalls voice is louder and it sucks. nellies aren’t “realists”, they’re bashers. “sunshine pumpers” or whatever you people are calling us nowadays try to figure things out and build people up and hope, not just bring people down
LMAO!!! I don’t need to bash people to feel better about myself. I’ll bash any product I purchase that turns out to be not as advertised as I see fit.
So what we have here is a disenfranchised, defensive sunshine pumper promoting himself to king of the forum thought police, so he can feel authoritative and “better than”. That’s all this is really about innit? You’re a preening “high-roader” reigning over your kingdom of negative nancys and you must put down the evil resistance everywhere it pops up it’s head. You’re basically neighborhood watch of the internet. You’re a better than me (TRUE fan) amirite?
Neeeext……
you just keep digging the hole deeper and deeper. you can think whatever you want. disenfranchised? haha. you’re obviously spouting off at the mouth pretty good. i don’t think i’m better than anyone. i’ve played sports as a kid, in high school, in college and professionally, so i know all about people like you. i am no high roader or authority figure, just someone who is an optimist that can see getting on a professional athlete for lack of hustle or whatever or coach because he’s the scapegoat, but getting on college athletes is wrong dude. it just shows you’re a douchebag. that is all. doesn’t show anything about me. i’m just trying to show you that that ain’t cool. and you can deflect this back on me all day long, but one of us is a POS and newsflash, fella, it ain’t me!!!!!!
You lost this argument four posts ago. Just stop. You’re nobody’s king here. You don’t think you’re better than anyone huh? What’s this nonsense then?

haha. oh and weird, nd52 has your back. shocking. read the above post again real, real slow. maybe you and your friend can break it up into smaller sections. maybe it’ll start to sink in
Oh it sank in just fine. You supposedly played professional sports and nobody’s opinions matter but yours so everybody should shut up and defer to your wisdom.
negative. try it again…slllloooowwweeerrr
I’m not one for redundancy. Pro tip: That’s not fancy internet lingo.
oh you’re redundant alrite
Tell your friends at the OU SID office that we said hello and happy holidays @disqus_BeW3hegp9d:disqus
um ok. i’m not hip to the internet lingo. that went right over my head. what does anything i’ve ever said have to do with the sports information dept?
I get the feeling there’s a lotta things you’re not hip to @disqus_BeW3hegp9d:disqus…………….
what that you, dcinaz, stephen dale, tfbfortyseven and the rest of you are trolls with nothing better to do in your life? neat
I agree. It’s a shame that this board is turning into other boards. I don’t recall all the bitching that you claim to have existed previously, but I may be wrong. The mods are still all very cool and respectful but it’s being overrun by fans that love to b!tch. Yeah, a lot of our experiments failed…sh!t happens. Let’s move on to Tech…
If so many people can whine here about the coaches/players the players can certainly express themselves about disrespectful fans.
I read through this entire string and it began to get a bit childish. I see both DCinAZ’s point of view as well as boomersooner’s, but it devolved into personal attacks that were reminiscent of the 3rd grade. I think people here could learn a thing or two about decorum from EasTex.
That said, DCinAZ, I would have to agree with the point that fans are customers who pay exorbitant prices for tickets, and have the right to cheer or boo if they choose. I know from being in the stands, the fans weren’t booing players, they were booing Mike Stoops for completely ignoring what every person in that stadium on TV who played even little league football already knew: pressure and tight man coverage was the way to go, and not just against Baylor. Automatically giving up 7-10 yards a play every single down by giving such a ridiculous cushion to their receivers was, in a word, STUPID (or in this case, maybe we should spell it “STOOPID” in honor of the person whose brain seems to be somewhere other than planet Earth?).
I personally have no problem with the fans’ reaction (nor do I have a problem with players’ reactions to fan reactions). I don’t think fans expressing displeasure makes them bad or disloyal fans. I’d say this was the last resort to communicate their ideas because all else has failed. They could try sending Mike Stoops an email, but he’ll never see it. Some secretary screens that stuff and deletes it. They could try calling, but that same secretary would screen the call and it’d never get through. Journalists can write editorials, but the coaches claim they don’t read the papers or watch the news. What other options are left? You can vote with your dollar by not renewing season tickets, but at the same time, a true fan doesn’t want to give up his season tickets if they love the University and want to see their team succeed.
So, if public outcry is what it takes for corrective action to be made, to get coach Mike to pull his head out of his rectum, so be it…even if it costs us recruits. Maybe that way, this learning opportunity will stick with him and Bob. Maybe this was the kick they needed to get over what I perceive as complacency in their jobs and get back in the game. Players may not get paid salaries, but they get a lot more than I ever received when I paid my own way through OU. I paid for season tickets back then to watch them play, tickets that funded their training facilities (which I wasn’t allowed to use) and funded their scholarships. I went hungry at times too because I didn’t have money to eat. I survived, and they can too. I’m not from the school of thought that everyone deserves a trophy just for participating, and that players need to be coddled and cheered as if they could do no wrong even when they screw up. I know this much…my high school coaches wouldn’t have survived the political correctness era judging by the way they spoke to us and got on our butts when we screwed up. But coaches get paid, and ours get paid EXTREMELY well. They are not immune from public reaction to their public failures.
I did not hear ONE PERSON call out a player’s name in the stands, only coach Mike. Unfortunately, when fans booed coach Mike, they just said “Boo!!!!!” not “Boo, coach Mike Stoops, make the adjustment that needs to be made because this soft coverage zone scheme isn’t effective and you are not letting your playmakers do what they do best!!!” That would only work if all 85,000 said it at the same time and even then it would probably be unintelligible. So players have to hear it. If they felt disrespected that is their prerogative even if it wasn’t directed at them. As EasTex pointed out, fans have a right to cheer or boo, and players have a right to tweet their displeasure too.
I’ve been a loyal fan for many years. I have been a season ticket holder since my freshman year in 1991. I graduated from OU, and I’ve traveled for some road games and several bowl games just to root the team on, win or lose. I have missed a handful of games due to work, school, or living in another state (less than 5 games in those 24 seasons). The only home game I ever left early was the Texas A&M game in Blake’s last season, and that wasn’t because we were losing, it was because I was so cold that I simply couldn’t tolerate it any longer. The walk back to my brother’s Pathfinder was the most painful walk I’ve ever had in my life. I felt pain every time my feet slapped on the pavement.
But last Saturday was more than embarrassing; it was angering and frustrating because I know we have the talent on our roster to beat Baylor, and there is NO reason OU should ever take that big of a beating on their home field. I was so angry that for the first time I excused myself early from a home game due to what I saw on the field. Not because I couldn’t live with OU losing. I’ve seen plenty of that with Blake. I couldn’t bear to watch us misuse our talent, employ a poor game plan, and not make any adjustments all because of the blindness or hardheadedness of an assistant coach who could not see what was happening on the field. I cannot bear to watch someone make the same mistake over and over again when there is something they can do about it.
I blew a fuse on Saturday. Do I feel ashamed for leaving? Absolutely not. Not even one little bit. It’s probably better that I left because the F-bombs were about to fly and there were 2 small children in my row and in the row behind me.
i appreciate what you wrote. but why do people always think that people who think like i do think “everyone deserves a trophy”? everyone does not deserve a trophy. i hate that thinking. no participation trophies ever. don’t like those words thrown in my mouth. why is it ok to boo someone who is not getting paid for what they do? would you go to a hospital and boo volunteers? no. i get it. we pay money to go to these games. but that’s exactly what they are. GAMES. you pay your money TO BE ENTERTAINED. yes you may boo because you paid money, but why take the chance on booing and a kid, who chose the university of oklahoma over any other university, thinks its aimed at him. or a recruit, who thinks that there is no way i’m coming here. i can go many other places and not have to hear this. and my whole point is not that people can’t have opinions, but if you have your opinion then stick with it through thick and thin. if you’re gonna boo or talk crap on a message board, then have some integrity and do it to somebody’s face, meaning i would be willing to bet a lot of money that people who cower in crowds and boo or anonymously post on the internet would kiss mike’s or bob’s or josh’s ass if they met face to face. i didn’t mean for that whole conversation to devolve into whatever it did, but getting ganged up on by 2 “trolly” guys didn’t sit well with me
Probably thought, wow these fans know when the coaches have given up and they don’t like it. That’s what I thought.
Good report, the coaches and players are saying the correct things. The proof is in the pudding and it’s time for OU to just go do it. OU is like 4-3 verses T. Tech the last 7 meetings. T. Tech had a bye week, it’s their last home game of the season, afternoon game ( their fans will be going crazy) and the team will be wound up tighter than an 8 day clock. OU needs to come out strong and not let up.
Bob Stoops said recruiting was fantastic then a Sooner legacy (2015 cb Jared Mayden) does not have OU in his top 5. Getting mixed signals or did OU not want him?
Against my better judgment and going with my heart I am taking OU and the points this weekend.
I always expect OU to win.
Gary I will finally say I’m worried about this recruiting class. I think the commits will stick with their word and they fit the scheme. But as far as getting great players out of what’s left…I don’t think we will catch fire like we did last year. Winning out may stop the bleeding as far as the bad look we have going for us right now. But I’m sure we’re going to end up missing out on linebackers and who knows who will end up being the other corners or safeties.
Linebackers-seems to be OU’s weakest spot in regards to commits who will sign on the dotted line come February which is drawing nigh.
But being the believing Nellie that I am when Bob Stoops says recruiting is fantastic, I will wait till February when OU signs a top 10 class. Come February we will see if Stoops really knows his stuff. Maybe he should pay attention to Twitter.
Reviewing a few posts about OU typically playing Cover 3, but also playing Cover 1 and pressing the WRs to both sides, instead of just one, brings to mind a defense that can play Cover 1 and Cover 3 at the same time. It’s possible.
So much talent, confusion, calamity, controlled chaos, inefficient game plan, denial, repeat stats
Repeated stat’s record and history. Did I get it all? Where is the imagination of offensive play’s, H-Back unused, trianlge so much more potentiall, I’m now rethinking the Q-B situation are you sure JH TK is better than Thompson. A statement said Thompson seen the hand writing on the wall, and who is having the season? Even after walking on. Hmmmmmm. I’d say there is a trust issue, player’s with coaches game plan, and fans trusting coach’s. doesn’t smell right, it stinks.
Well I’m glad to see Jordan Thomas may get some valuable playing time in Wilson’s spot and see what Steven Parker can do at Safety. Other than that Mike Stoops is full of boloney.
Texas Tech is going to accuse us of cheating even worse than TCU did.
and Mike better play tight, bumb and run, and blitz the weak Davis Webb because Texas Tech is much, much more dink and dunk than Baylor was and they throw it out quicker and turn up field. If we give them easy pass and catch it will be hard to tackle these quick guys in space.
That always got me. It was pretty petty of Patterson and Boykin accusing us of cheating, because of Mayfield. I couldn’t help but wonder if Texas Tech accused TCU of the same thing, with TCU OC,Sonnie Cumbie(TxTech OC in 13′) TCU rolled Tech 82-27 this year.
Good question. I wonder if Texas Tech and TCU are also aware that OU has game film on them, too. That’s cheating, getting to see each of their games so far this year to identify their offensive tendencies…
That’s why you get young men with Character. Times like this you need them, or a bad season turns into a bad decade.
Wonderful insight.
Really, coaches put you in a position to win games? 84,000 people at Memorial Stadium could see that the defense was not put in a position to win. You CANNOT start 8 yards off the line of scrimmage, start to back pedal and not expect a good QB to dink your butt to death. The reason the blitz didn’t get there is because Petty could throw the ball in 1-2 seconds. I don’t care if you have an NFL Hall of Fame defensive line. That is not enough time for the defensive line to get the QB. Even when you play off coverage you put yourself in a position to get beat. A speedy receiver with a head start will run past a defensive back who is mindful of the QB. The defense was not put anywhere close to a position to win that game.
well said.
Given what Shuster said below, one can expect TT to follow that same gameplan ! Maybe more blitzing since C Thomas rather than TKnight will probably be the QB. Since Thomas has played so little , I would expect TT to change defensive alignments at the LOS to confuse the young QB, rush multiple blitzers whenever possible, and try to keep OU in 2nd or 3rd long yardage situations. Offensively, I expect TT to throw 50-75 passes , moving the chains, wearing down a beleagured, fragile defense and win the game easily-by 3-4 td’s…in the 51-24 to 51-28 range..Also expect Hunnimuff to miss at least one more FG and OU to lose the turnover battle …….a dreary day at feedlot university but this is the season for dreariness.
Kick ’em while their down? Glass half empty kind of guy? My o my…
Another troll, this one I think is an OSU type.
Better an OSU troll than an SID troll…………
What about a large rock troll? There are very few left but few can withstand their ferocity.
Troll yes but only because he doesn’t think ou will try to run the ball 75% of the game. Didn’t arkansas run for like 400 yards on the tacos?
I can understand why people might think there is cause for concern there. Arkansas gave an easy road map to follow vs TTU, just like WVU did against Baylor. If our coaches failed to follow WVU’s game plan, I can see where there would be concern that we wouldn’t follow Arkansas’ game plan either.
This is where the o line puts on their big boy pants and helps pick up those blitzes and odd fronts.
One can hope.
Dude, are all the sharp objects out of your house along with all rope like material longer than ten inches?
well, mr dale does tend to turn the knife at times, but, he was spot on last week and bu let off the gas………hope his prediction is wrong but who knows with this team
*OT*
At 8p.m. Central the future of football is considered as only South Park can, Sarcastaball.

Nice!
Thanks.
Fill,me in on who, this cat is please.
Dede Westbrook, wr, Cameron, Tx. At present enrolled in Blinn Junior college in Texas somewhere. Supposedly tearing it up in junior college. Have not seen any film or have I confirmed the above info. Just from memory and that’s sketchy at times.
Ahhhhh yes I remember hearing of a Juco Wr that OU offered. Do you think he put togehter that image or was it something the OU athletic department sent him and he just reposted it?
wondered that myself. Maybe some other posters know and will let us know.
I remember him being mentioned in a post, but can’t remember how long ago it was only that the young man is a stud.
JUCO WR out of NEO, offered a few weeks back. Not a big guy but has big speed and moves in the open field. He isn’t quite what OU has seen before in the likes Saunders/Shepard as smaller guy. Has moves but doesn’t like to dance a lot, more of one cut and he’ll try to burn you which I kind of like (a little like Bester). He’s got offers from 4 or 5 BIGXII schools but is high on OU.
I’M READY TO WIN AGAIN!, not just for the winning though because that goes without saying and what kind of fan doesn’t want to win? I’m ready to win because we have more fun here. Losing creates division in the fan base and brings out the worst in people. Fans place blame depending on their point of view and message boards provide a virtual battlefield to take sides and fight the war that can’t be won. Only wins can reunite the fan base and create a fun atmosphere to show our pride for our team. It’s not just here, it’s happening on most boards right now, let’s not be other boards……let’s be BRAINIACS! BOOMER!
stop being rationale Ray! 🙂
As I said I’m betting on OU to cover the point spread. My theory is they are due for something big to happen.
Due is an understatement. We need some big things right now.
Winning cures all ills.
Sure learn a lot about people when they face adversity, though.
Bingo was his name-o. 2 more people I’m done with down below. No use for wastes of breath like that. Any who….on to positive thoughts
Thank you brother. Needed that
Agree with you 100 sooner ray let’s hope for big win this week
After all the timeouts called at strange moments in the past why is the name of Merle Haggard didn’t he call one during that first drive of the second half? By his usual standards OU would burned at least two to get everyone on the same page. Mike stoops, seems to be making “rookie” mistakes lately. I wonder how much he understands what he is trying to do.
I was wondering that myself. Maybe he was trying to prove a point that he knows his sh*t !!! smh
I tell you I am really hoping for very good OU performance Saturday and not just slipping by with a win. This team needs to exercise some demons. After two, straight home losses I think they really need to kick some butt to restore some confidence. Hopefully the coaches match that level of coveted redemption we see the players talking about.
I am laying down fifty cents that they cover. My friends say no way, they ( OU ) will probably lose. We all have reserved tables at a local casino which is probably crazy. Alcohol and Casinos go together like oil and water.
Last week is over, so is the loss. NOTHING can be done about it except to learn from it and use it as motivation for the next game. As I recall Stoops has never lost back to back Conference games. I hoping for a beat down of TTU! Always a Sooner! BOOM!
Stoops never lost after the TX game too at one point…food for thought
Love Tapper but, “for the most part we dominated those guys up front.” Just sounds silly when you get crushed by 34 pts.
