You gotta feed the monster.
yes indeed
At $5 million a year should we expect less?
I agree but the football team does pay for itself. They routinely are sending a check for the rest of the athletic department to use.
Has there been a time in the recent past that this did not happen?
Late 1990s, before Stoops arrived.
Not sure when and if the football program didn’t pay for the other sports. With fan reduction when John had been there late we may have had that issue.
Ah, I flubbed that. I remember that the athletic department was in the red in the 1990s, but I don’t think the football program had a deficit in those years. It just didn’t generate enough to cover all the costs of the department.
As well as $2-4 million per year to the University.
for 5 million a year we could have the results of kevin sumlin or charlie strong.
All about perspective.
Excuse me, but we’re trying to be negative here…
Haha my bad. 🙂
You forgot that ever so important “+”…$5+ million….
Stoops says the players of the game on the offense were the OL and Aaron Ripkowski
Stoops: Great to see Michael Hunnicutt be perfect on the day. Defensive players of the game were Charles Tapper and Dom Alexander
Stoops: Unsure yet on Sterling Shepard. “It appeared to be pretty minor yesterday.”
Stoops would allow that they’re “optimistic” he’ll play Saturday.
The explanation I’m sure you all were expecting – Bob says it was simple “execution” as to why the QB run game was so effective on Saturday.
Also as expected, no one in attendance has the cojones to challenge Bob on why they waited until 8 games into the season to run the offense they brought Knight in three years ago to run.
They’ve asked him about it every week. His answer was clear and accurate.
While I’m at it, I loved his approach again this week. Very direct in his analysis of what went wrong and what went right., as usual.
I also noticed that while he was cordial about I-State and complimented them, he didn’t pay an obviously phony compliment about how well I-State played or competed. He tailors the “coach speak” to the occasion.
Or, for that matter, unveil the wrinkles like the overload trips formation in the backfield that they ran the stretch, the option, sweeps out of.
Expecting salient questions from this group of underachievers in the media is a lost cause.
Stoops: Wide receiver play behind Shepard needs to be better, but there has definitely been improvement.
Stoops said he thought the WRs were just okay and had too many drops
Stoops on the Baylor offense: “They want to run the ball. They’re persistent at it, and they’re good at it.”
Stoops on last year’s loss in Waco: “Last year is last year. That’s gone.”
Stoops: “I’m never embarrassed about playing. I’d be embarrassed about not competing.”
Reasonably certain this was directed at Hoover.

but he did go ahead and talk about it anyway.
Ok, I was wondering if that was Hoover he kept scowling at and just basically saying over and over again how he did not care what that reporter thought. I fall don’t watch the pressers (this is my first is a long while) its worth it to see how Stoops responds to Hoover.
BRING BACK THE KUZI
With good reason, he doesn’t think much about revisiting what happened a year ago, especially since he realizes it’s about looking for a quote. So he always starts out a bit prickly when the questioning goes that way. But he calmed down and answered the questions after a moment.
The one member of the Oklahoma sports media I’d hire …
Stoops on Briles: Art has done an incredible job, no question, with how he continues to build that program.
Stoops compliments both J.Evans & D.Alexander for their play at ILB

At least we know that they’re aware now…if they show up and don’t blitz, then I think our questioning of the coaches is legit…

weird. Another non-OU shirt. Last week was yellow. Anything to this Jordan? Didnt you say last week it was really odd seeing Bob at a presser without OU gear? and now its two in a row..
Stoops on Knight’s upside: He’s young. But there’s a big upside…I’m confident he’ll continue to grow.
Stoops: Blake Bell has become a big target over the middle…has great hands…continued to improve blocking-wise
Stoops on Perine’s blocking ability: He’s a physical guy, but I don’t need to tell you about that. He’s shown great maturity in everything he does. He’s got the frame and toughness to do it, and he does it well.
Stoops says he hadn’t thought about alternates: “Ah, jeez, I haven’t even thought about that. Tells you how concerned I am about it.”
He did say there will be a conversation about it though. Sounds like it will be up to the captains/team.

Execution

That’s a wrap for today.
My main takeaway from Stoops’ attitude today was that if OU continues to take care of its own business, the way it has the past couple of weeks, Baylor better watch out. We’ll see…
Ok I have apparently missed Bryce Petty’s comments. What did he say?
Here it is. I think Stoops nailed it. It looks like he was trying to be funny and do a Belichek imitation. http://newsok.com/audio-baylors-bryce-petty-answers-every-postgame-question-with-were-ready-for-ou/article/5362932
We are completely capable of beating Baylor, and beating them significantly. Was there a particular article that Hoover wrote or is this a cumulative thing to garner such animosity?
cumulative thing. years of unnecessarily negative comments to garner attention. I don’t read ANYTHING that has his name to it or where he works b/c he’s doing it for that reason, to get people to read/listen to him. So I don’t at all.
Actually, I view Hoover as the only member of the OKC sports media with the guts to ask salient questions. Read him religiously.
I do on occasion but I would welcome someone to ask the direct questions that we all want to know. I’m not on your level but it just seems that Hoover is more combative than just asking the direct questions. Let me know your thoughts as I’m just a reader and don’t know what goes on inside the ropes.
I watched the press conference. Hoover repeatedly asked Stoops about what Petty said about their game with KU, or what he thought about them not shaking hands with the other team, or what Stoops would tell his players if Baylor refused to shake hands, or what Stoops thought about what his players said about getting up for Baylor next yr a/f last yr’s loss or what some Baylor player said during the summer about OU, etc. Stupid questions, trying, as usual, to get something started. Stoops said, repeatedly, he could answer for what others felt, or that he hadn’t heard nor did he care what others said after their games at their press conference. I couldn’t care less either. And, if stoops had answered those stupid questions I couldn’t care less what Stoops would have said, either. Who cares? Stupid (repeatedly) questions that I could care less what Stoops himself thinks about. That’s exactly why I shut Hoover off–stupidity, trying to stir something that’s unimportant into something, lack of integrity and fairness. He loves attention and knows this gives it to him, but that exactly why I ignore him. I want integrity in reporting, not narcissism like him and Trabor just trying to get attention, even if it’s bad attention.
Not saying he doesn’t sometimes have an issue with Hoover, but t didn’t see it as individually directed animosity, just his way of responding to “no win” questions about what happened a year ago. I think he responds that way no matter who asks the question.
