No doubt in my mind that this year’s Big XII is—-at worst—-the 3rd best conference in the nation. I’d say definitely 2nd if not for Kansas, TTU and OSU being so awful.

I’m just like you with losing games we have no business losing. And it happening to more and more teams shows that parity is here. I’ve just never understood the arrogant thinking of ” this is Oklahoma. We win championships. National not conference. Etc etc.” And its usually the arrogant fan that thinks Bob is arrogant. I’m not saying you’re one of those. Please don’t think I’m calling you out or anything. We only have 7. 7 is a lot, don’t get me wrong. What? 3rd or 4th most but its still 7 not 70. Are we due for one? Sure. Do I want another? Better believe it. Would I love a little run like bama just had? No doubt. I know all about the tradition and love every moment of it. Bob is top 30 at worst of all time by the time he’s done and he is most definitely on our mt rushmore. All that to say this. I’ve played a sport professionally, so I know how tough it is to win, to be the last team standing at the end of the year. I came close once but never won it all. And I can’t let that define me or my fandom of Oklahoma football. If I was one of these kids, I wouldn’t want some fan to tell me years down the road that my time as an OU football player was a waste because we should’ve won a national title and didn’t(and no I didn’t play football at OU-just an example). Or as a coach either, for that matter. And please don’t think I’m telling you how to be a fan. Just putting thoughts on paper. Sorry for the novel
Wish more people thought this way. I am probably the most competitive guy I know, and losing hurts (even when its just a team I root for), but people need to realize that 2014 is such a different landscape than 1974. Undefeated seasons are going to be rare going foward.

So the standards are being lowered. I recognize that CFB is levelling out (teams are having more parity), but OU used to be about NCs first, not conf.
Actually Bob has always been about winning the conference, as that was necessary most years to get you into the NC discussion during the BCS era. OU has to win the conference to have any shot at being one of the four teams in the playoff, so his comment makes a lot of sense.
No he’s not lowering standards, he’s adjusting them for this season. Unfortunately, we’ve already lost 2 games and are out of the national title picture. Fans, players and staff are disappointed but Stoops has to stay positive and continue to push the guys to achieve some of the goals that were set in the pre-season. I’m as ticked off about the 2 losses as the next guy, but I also think he has to continue to find way to motivate these guys. Not saying that you have this mentality, but by reading some of posts by various fans it seems like some people want to mail the rest of this season in. As a former coach, I think the rest of this season and the bowl game will be a good opportunity to continue to improve and develop some of our young DB, LB, RB and WR talent and influence some recruits to come to Norman.

Two things : 1.) Hunnicut would have had his scholarship yanked had I been in Stoops position ; 2.) Several OU players need haircuts.
Glad you aren’t the coach, good luck ever getting any recruits if you pull a kids scholarship based on 1 bad performance or their hairstyle.

Yeah, it was good back when the site was new, we talked football and this kind of nonsense had not yet shown up. About all the mods could do would be to block him, but most of this ilk simply get a new user name and are back at it. Finally it becomes like Gresham’s Law and the trolls outnumber the civilians.

Did Hunnicut buy a new Lamborghini yet?
Lots of Hunnicutt hate lately. I guess he deserves it for one week. I’ve seen folks light up Knight and Sanchez all year for poor performances. I guess kickers should be treated the same as everyone else. Hopefully he earns his Moneycutt nickname back soon. Sort of OT, we have the #1 kicking recruit coming in next year, so there shouldn’t be a huge dropoff in production.
