Open Post | Weekend, Sept. 19th – 21st (UPDATE Fri., 3:03 pm)

Happy Friday y’all!

Kansas State vs. Auburn: Wow. KSU’s front seven were nails. How close was that? Based on that game, neither of those teams look like someone that could beat Oklahoma.

2015 Class: With the two most recent, Oklahoma now stands at 13 commits. We’re speculating they may take another 10-12 players in this class and, for the most part, the board seems to be set.

Martinas Rankin: Haven’t had a chance to talk to Rankin at length yet, but did exchange a few messages yesterday and really just wanted to find out where things stand with his recruitment. But perhaps more than anything, to gauge whether Oklahoma is going to hold a spot for him. With five OL commits and Jalin Barnett on the way, that would bring OU to a total of six which we were originally told was the max number they would take. However, Rankin has told us that OU seems to be willing to wait for the moment. Obviously, they didn’t know for sure they were going to get a commitment from Jamal Danley this past weekend, so we’re not sure how that changes things. Rankin said he has yet to decide what other (if any) officials he will take going forward.

With OU also having Pat Allen in this past weekend (who, by the way, is now very intrigued by Oklahoma), our guess is that six OL is the number but coach Stoops might allow the offensive staff to take an extra OLineman for the right guy. And we’re assuming “the right guy” has to be an offensive tackle…not a guard.

Keisean Lucier-South: This would be a huge get. One of the things that makes OU very difficult to contend with is their edge players, specifically Geneo Grissom and Eric Striker. South brings that long, explosive edge player who has the frame to hold the weight he’d need to be a boundary OLB. But watching how quickly he’s able to get in his drop really is eye opening.

When we spoke to South the day after his trip, he told us that he enjoyed it so much that it surprised even him. The two things that stood out the most were (1) OU’s defense and (2) how to whole community supports the football team. We talked to Keisean a little more yesterday just to see if the effect of the trip had worn off and he said, “I’m still feelin’ that visit!” Keisean told us the other schools he’s visiting are Oregon, Michigan and perhaps Florida. The more we talk to Keisean, the more we feel like OU could actually win this battle. And he’d be a big win for the future of OU’s defense.

Ricky DeBerry: A partner of ours had a chance to catch up with DeBerry’s father about Ricky’s recent visit to Oklahoma. As expected, DeBerry and his family “loved” the visit to Norman. Apparently there are four major schools in contention for DeBerry’s services: Oklahoma, Tennessee, Virginia, and Alabama. However, we are being told that of those four Oklahoma, Tennessee and UVA are DeBerry’s leaders and they’re all even at the moment. Although our partner said that DeBerry’s father prefers Oklahoma over the rest of the schools and if it were his choice, his son would be a Sooner. That very much jives with the impression we got early on when we spoke to DeBerry Sr. a while back. He’s always liked Oklahoma and this second trip only reinforced that. So again, OU is very much in this one.

Ykili Ross: Ykili Ross has rescheduled his visit to Norman for the Baylor game. Ross’ family are USC fans and it’ll be tough to pull him away from Southern Cal, but when we spoke to his father after the Stanford game it seemed like it would be almost impossible. After that Boston College game…not so much. Ykili’s father has told us in the past that he will be watching closely how Sark does at USC and it will definitely play a factor in where Ykili ends up.

Gabriel Campbell: 2015 DE Gabriel Campbell was originally expected to visit Norman last weekend, but wasn’t able to make it because he had yet to take the ACT/SAT. He’s currently getting that taken care of and told us this week that he still plans on making it out to Norman for an official visit. Gabriel said that he’ll likely take his visit for the Baylor game.

Neville Gallimore: Last night Neville released his Top 5 (in no order) which included: Oklahoma, Florida, Florida State, Ohio State & Oregon. We have been told by someone close to Neville that OU is his current leader. However, he has not taken the remainder of his trips (but he has taken an unofficial visit to Ohio State). In talking to him last night, he said that he will take the remainder of his official visits to his other Top 5 schools. Oklahoma is going to wait a bit on Neville, but we’ve been told that one of his strongest relationships is with Oklahoma’s DLine coach Jerry Montgomery. And Neville has told us that type of relationship with whoever his future coach may be is one of the most important factors in his recruitment.

Continuing to talk to someone close to Neville, this is what we can share with you about his trip to Oklahoma:

– He absolutely loved the vibe of the town, the players, and the community overall. In fact, we were specifically told that he prefers the Norman/Oklahoma community over the other places he’s had a chance to visit thus far.

– Again, his strongest relationship with a coach is with Jerry Montgomery.

– He actually believes OU is being up front with him, that he will indeed get to play his preferred position which is defensive end. It sounds like Neville is a little concerned that some of the other schools plan on moving him inside.

– While he is taking his trips, it does seem that part of it may be more about “being fair to everyone he’s been talking to.”

– Interesting comment about Neville’s reaction to OU’s defensive speed, “he thought Oregon guys played fast, but watching OU is a whole other story.”

I (K) am calling this one right now…and my feeling is Neville ends up at Oklahoma.

Adrienne Talan: We always love talking about players we like that may not be getting the attention we feel they deserve, and Adrienne Talen is perhaps one of my (K) favorite players. I had a chance to visit with him and watch him down in Miami last spring when I went down to visit former FSU CB, Stanford Samuels. Stanford coaches Talan. I mention Talan because we all see the difference a player like Eric Striker makes on the defense. He’s a tremendous pass rusher, has great instincts, and continues to grow as a cover guy. But something that really raises Striker to another level is his motor. He is 100% all the time. Adrienne Talan is a lot like that.

Talan plays safety and OLB for Flanagan HS (he recently transferred to Flanagan) in the Miami area. He’s right at 6’0″ – 6’1″ (about an inch or so taller than Striker) and weighs right at 200 lbs. He was probably in the low 190’s when I saw him last spring, but I talked to Stanford the other night and he told me Talan is now at 200 lbs. He’s got a long, lean, muscular frame. Looks like he’ll easily hold 220+ lbs. OU is playing Striker as a boundary OLB and I really think Talan could be that player out there that is the next Striker in OU’s scheme. Talan, in my opinion, exceeds Striker in his ability to cover. In fact, I think Talan could legitimately play CB.

I haven’t had a chance to review his senior film yet, but the Flanagan staff is putting it together for us. What I love about Talan is that like Striker, he goes 100% all the time. Even when you talk to him, he’s very similar Striker. There is a kindness to his disposition, but also an intensity and a pure joy/ferociousness when you watch them on the field. They both just absolutely love to play the game want to be in on every play. Two plays I really love on his jr. film start around the 0:33 mark where he lines up in the strong-side A-gap, at the last second reads the play, and blows through the weak-side A-gap to stone the ball carrier. I was told that this was a call he made himself on the field when he recognized what was happening. The other play is at 1:26. Talan literally jumps over the line to block a kick. I don’t mean he dives over the line…I mean he jumps over the line.

Talan is a very underrated player in my estimation, but he does currently hold offers like TCU, Iowa, UCF, USF, etc. I can absolutely see why TCU would want him. He’d make a great safety in their 4-2-5. But I’d love to see a future defense with Keisean Lucier-South at the boundary OLB and Adrienne Talan as the field OLB/nickel.

– UPDATE (Fri., 9:46 am): Interesting little tidbit that just randomly came across the radar.

TFB is working to follow up on this, but Sittler wrote for the Tulsa World for years and definitely has connections. Hopefully if we get news on this soon it will be of the good variety.

– UPDATE (Fri., 3:03 pm): I (Jordan) have come to avoid ESPN GameDay like the plague, but may have to make an exception tomorrow. They’ll briefly pause from pimping the S-E-C(!) just long enough to air a piece on Eric Striker. I believe it’s supposed to air around 10:30 am (central).

    All the updates….wow

  • Zack says:

The future defense would be off the charts if they land gallimore deberry and KLS. If they were to take gallimore and say Campbell would that say to you they will move on from guys they have committed?

  • Kevin Fielder says:

You guys continue to rock! Thank you for being THE place to turn for OU Football!

  • Jordan Esco says:

    Baker Mayfield update added

    • Jed says:

Anyone know what Sittler’s doing these days? I always enjoyed his columns. Vastly superior to Hoover, IMHO.

      • Jordan Esco says:

I think he’s just enjoying retirement, but I haven’t really followed that closely.

      • Jeremy Phillips says:

He comes on the Tulsa Animal MOD show a couple times a week & i think he still does a freelance story for the TW from time to time..

      • SamSooner says:

Would the OU coaches have received approval from the Big 12 before appealing to the NCAA?

        This is shameful.

        • Jordan Esco says:

I was under the impression the Big 12/Tech had already denied him which is why they had to appeal to the NCAA in the first place. Why they’d then have to go back and get the Big 12’s approval when the NCAA, even as inept as they clearly are, is the governing body for the sport is beyond stupid to me. But that’s also par for the course when it comes to this type of stuff.

          • soonerinks says:

Agree, the B12 said no to the transfer so they appealed to a higher authority. If the higher authority says he can play, it makes no sense that they would then have to get approval from the B12. That would be like losing a legal case, appealing to the Supreme Court, winning your appeal and then have to go back to the lower court to validate the Supreme Court’s ruling. Ridicuous!

          • Jordan Esco says:

            completely ridiculous

  • Bluegrass Sooner says:

First time to post. This is a great site. I can’t seem to check it enough everyday! The future looks bright for our Sooners. Thanks for all the great updates.

  • D'Brickashaw Ferguson says:

Lucier-South will be a monster in college. He’s a star and he’s in one of the top high school divisions in the country. I love players that play against stiff competition every week and still shine.

And quick question about Ykili Ross. Do you think Ross might shy away from USC if Iman Marshall goes there? Pairing Marshall with Adoree Jackson would be unreal, so Ross may look at other schools. Just a theory. Thoughts?

    • Super K says:

D, I agree on South. To your question about ykili, I’d have to ask his dad.

      • RBear says:

Exactly- from what TFB has been reporting, his Dad will make this decision based on USC’s (Sark’s) performances. Hopefully they tank.

  • Eric Tauriainen says:

Getting Mayfield eligible this year would be HUGE.

  • Indy_sooner says:

It’d be good to get “Shake and Bake” Mayfield on the roster and break the string of bad luck we’ve had with Shanon and co. Still hard to fathom how this one-time headscratcher of a transfer is now looking more and more as an immediate need as the season plays out.

  • D'Pez Poopsie says:

if Mayfield is deemed eligible I think Heupel and co. unleash T. Knight.

    • soonerinks says:

I think they will protect Knight as long as they feel comfortable they will win the game without using his legs. As the schedule gets tougher, we will start to see him being utilized more. If a game is close, you will see him running the ball more. They already have the plays in the system, it’s just a matter of when they feel they have to start taking the risk.

    • ND52 says:

I’ll settle for them simply taking Knight out of games when the outcome is assured.

    • Josh says:

I hope so! TK playing with one leg tied behind his back is frustrating to watch and limits this offense in a big way.

      • willie says:

Agree. It is frustrating because we know that Knight can make the reads, he did it last year. Maybe they let him run the actual reads this week, he opens up the offense so much more when teams are forced to actually respect his legs.

  • soonerinks says:

In watching this OU team this year it appears to me that Bob has complete trust in Mike and his defense and is letting them play loose & free and is letting the defense be the gamblers and take all the risk. The offense is a little more cautious with protection of Knight (by limiting his carries) and being fairly conservative. Makes sense, play to your strength and give the offense time to gel.

  • lovethemsooners says:

Why would the Big 12 deny Mayfield and supersede the NCAA’s ruling(if it comes down favorable)?

  • Drew says:

Looking at our LB position, it seems we’re in really well w/ some phenomenal talent (KLS, Deberry, and Talan if we offered), but they’re all OLB. What’s our ILB situation?

    • Will Narramore says:

Anthony Wheeler out of Dallas is one of our top targets I believe. Most sites have him as a 4 star and he’s believed to be down to us and Texas. Anthony McKee, who visited last week, is another inside linebacker we are in good standing with

  • Jason Vos says:

Dont see what all the fuss is about the ILB position. If my numbers are correct we will have 5 ILB’s next year. Alexander, Shannon, Evans, Tay Evans & Curtis Bolton.

Maybe Kish is just taking his time to make sure he gets the right players that would fit the system. All we need is what 2 ILB’s? Not that big a deal

    • Super K says:

Not to say its dire but Alexander and Evans will already be Jrs next yr and we don’t have any certainty about Frank’s future or about how good Bolton or Evans will be.

      • Josh says:

Don’t worry about Tay… Known him since he was a in 9th grade. Once he gets used to playing in more traffic on the inside he will be a VERY good one. Great athlete, very good instincts, coachable, smart, long arms, could have been a very good basketball player like his daddy.

        • Boom says:

Josh, you see Tay in Jordan Evan’s role or Alexander’s.

          • Josh says:

I see him more as a Jordan Evans really due to his coverage ability. If he would have played ILB in HS instead of OLB he would have played the Mike position because in that system the Mike has more pass coverage responsibilities… The Mike is responsible for the #3 receiver, splits out a little wider when the Offense uses a 3×1 package with the 3rd receiver in the slot… has to be able to carry a TE down the seem, cover a back out of the backfield etc… Tay has very good instincts and was always very good at understanding his drops in HS and I think would be very good in coverage. The trick is getting his eyes where they need to be as in ILB and playing in traffic and getting used to the ILBs run fits.

          • Boom says:

cool, thanks for the heads up. My son and I watched the state championship game about 6 times. Tay has quick feet which is why I figured he would fall more in line with Evans role.

    • John Garner says:

I read at OUInsider that Shannon is very unhappy with OU and seriously thinking of transferring. Hope that’s not true.

  • Boom says:

Talan – In one word “explosive”. I can see DeBerry or KLS at boundary OLB but Talan is definitely at OLB/NB. Seems like a clone of Striker with his instincts.
Griffin ILB, Talan OLB/NB, KLS & DeBerry at boundary OLB.

    • Super K says:

      You get it.

      • Boom says:

K, the more I watch, they more I’m impressed with Jordan Evans. ILB’s, who are we recruiting that has that length, speed, and ability to drop if needed in Tampa 2 like Evans. I want to say Whitfield but I see him more in the position Q Hayes is playing.

  • Josh says:

If Baker becomes eligible will we get to see TK run a REAL Zone Read finally?

    • Daddy R says:

OR maybe they could use mayfield in zone read packages and we can have rotating qb’s again! (SARCASM)…(that word looks really weird spelled out in all caps)

  • Big Tiddays says:

    Go OU! Beat WV silly!

  • kt-raida says:

I love how OU is on upset alert against WVU this will Make sure we stay focused and not overlook this team.

  • leatherneck1061 says:

Please please let Mayfield become eligible. Ready for a break on at least ONE of these players that have been “ruled out” for the year. As good as the Sooners have looked so far, can only imagine what they would look like if all of our players were eligible this season. Not saying there shouldn’t be punishment, just imagining the O with DGB and Mixon added to the mix and the added depth at LB with Shannon included. Add Mayfield as a competent backup qb and that is one COMPLETE team on both sides of the ball.

  • Kevin Fielder says:

We live in Bentonville, AR and OU commit Jarrett Guarantano is playing here with Bergen (N.J.) Catholic tonight. You can watch it at http://www.bentonvillehssports.com if you’d like to see him in action.

  • Doobie74OU says:

There are some post were you can’t even come up with anything to say! SMH in Amazement! Super K ate his Wheaties this morning cause he’s doin work!

  • Scott Morris says:

Auburn would love a shot at the Sooners in the CFP…but don’t expect the “B” game you saw last night with the drops and the bad QB calls on the read option. But do be aware a bad game can happen to any team at any time (a la OU/K-State in 2012) so watch out for the Wildcats on 10/18–if they get away with as much offensive holding as they did last night, OU will have a game on its hands…Honestly, I expect OU will get a game regardless but the Wildcats did commit an egregious amount of uncalled holding Thursday night.

Good luck the rest of the way…and that bowl win against Bama last year? Well, you beat ’em bad fair and square, but there was no fight in those Elephants. They just wanted the 2013-2014 season to end. And a lot of us down South think Coach Stoops has a case of conference envy. Beware the Bears!!

    • Zack says:

I don’t think auburn will even make the playoff. I don’t think they’re that good and I’m tired of people talking about how good their offense is. It’s not that special lsu should exploit them this year. Teams with great speed on defense and are disciplined against the run, will stop auburn.

      • Scott Morris says:

And outside of the obvious OU bias, why do the Sooners deserve so much love??? You can stop Auburn’s run and make us beat you by passing, which is what we did. If we were one-dimensional and all we had is a running game, then I’d be worried. But it’s not. We played like $hit offensively and still won a game against a very good defense in a hostile environment. I guarantee every, single one of you on this board would take a road victory in Manhattan every year. He!!, nobody gave us a chance against FSU last year and it ended up a 3-pt game. I like Auburn against anyone in the country just like you would take OU against anybody.

And whoever up there is trying to compare K-State’s narrow win against Iowas St and saying if K-State can stop us then OU would “murder our running game”…that’s not how football works. Maybe some of your brethren on here should teach that person about trying to compare “a”, “b” and “c” with the transitive property. It’s impossible. What were you guys saying about Oklahoma in 2012 when the wheels came off against K-State (in Norman, no less). It’s all smack until you prove it on the field. You guys talk about stopping the run, but OU gave up 97 yards (and 6.9 YPC) to a Tennessee TRUE freshman (I wouldn’t call that murdering anybody). And we’re not talking Adrian Peterson here…Hurd’s good, but he isn’t AP.

About Bama…if Oklahoma had the kind of expectations that Saban has built at Bama–and OU doesn’t…you can talk and pretend and debate all you want, OU just doesn’t have those expectations–having to play a Bowl game after losing your shot at the national title play-in game (aka the SEC Championship) to your arch rivals the way they did and watching your most hated rivals get a bid to the NC game is Bama’s worst nightmare–in all seriousness, some Bammers would say it’s worse than losing their mother. And it’s innate to that particular program. I’m not saying anybody else in the country thinks or acts like that, but that is Bama’s attitude. Call it excuses, call it whatever you want..that’s how it is for them. They expect–and they have the talent–to be #1 every year. Sorry, but nobody else in the country can say that every year, not even your vaunted Oklahoma Sooners. So when you’re in that situation, the expectations are vastly different. The OU naysayers can decry the “no motivation” excuse all they want, but it’s just different in Tuscaloosa.

I’m sure this post will get more responses than it deserves, but I have to bounce. I’m not running from the onslaught, I just can’t be on the boards all day. So thanks to you for the interesting commentary, all comments are appreciated. I’m hope my posts have been respectful to your opionions. Have a good day.

        • j l says:

Tennessee had -19 rushing yards through 3 quarters bud. Most of those yards were garbage time, when we had shut the offense down, and started putting 2nd and 3rd stringers in on defense( i saw DJ ward in there with 11 minutes to go, kid hasnt played in 2 years, and is a 3rd/4th string DE)

Tennessee averaged 4.06 yards per play, 312 total yards. Pretty sure about 125 of those yards came in garbage time.

KSU dosent have near the defense we do, so yes, if they can hold down your running game, so would we.

You want to start passing? Thats ok too. We are holding teams to 4.8 yards per attempt, good for top 10 in the nation.

You simply dont have a defense in the SEC comparable to ours, except maybe LSU. Who auburn will be very lucky to get past.

          • Scott Morris says:

Those sound like excuses. Top 10 in passing D after what, three games? Very impressive…and I’m pretty sure Coach Stoops still wasn’t happy with giving up 100 yds to a freshman, even in garbage time. And how do you know that K-State’s D isn’t near the defense OU has..or what kind of defense every other team in the SEC has? Your hubris shall be your downfall.

          • boomersooner says:

Your friends at ESPN mentioned a little nugget about that team you supposedly handled last night….they have 58 current or former walkons. 58! Great job. And if the kid had ever kicked a football before, you’d have a shiny new L on that sec mantle

          • ToatsMcGoats says:

In Auburn’s defense, they are 58 EXTREMELY well coached walk ons…

          • boomersooner says:

Yes they are. Its amazing what Snyder’s done there. I just hate when guys sneak out of middle earth and forget their meds

          • John Garner says:

If and when we play Auburn, I fully expect that Bob and Mike Stoops will have more respect for you than what has been shown here. You can expect our best effort which apparently Bama wasn’t prepared for. It’s not our fault that we played better than the Elephants and won, so make whatever excuse you will. The plain and simple truth is that Saban was outcoached and Bama was outplayed. .

          • cpearc00 says:

Says the guy making excuses for his biggest rival. Good day, sir. Good luck in the mighty SEC this year.

          • ToatsMcGoats says:

I commented before I read yours! Great minds…amiright?

          • j l says:

facts are now considered excuses? Our run D completely shut down the vols run game WHEN IT COUNTED.

I think stoops will trade 100 yards in garbage time, for experience for his 2nd and 3rd teamers. Any coach would. They could care less about the stats.

How do I know our D is better than KSU? I have eyeballs. They are a good D, but they arent as good as we are, period.

how do i know about the rest of the SEC? I watch around 10-12 games a weekend, about half of those are SEC games. Ive watched every team in the SEC except vandy, kentucky and mizzou play at least twice.

I highly doubt you can say the same about big 12 teams.

My hubris will be our downfall? You are greatly overestimating the impact of a fan on a team. My impact on the teams success is exactly zilch.

          • ToatsMcGoats says:

“Your hubris shall be your downfall” says the guy on another team’s page, defending his own team’s crappy performance…

        • Daddy R says:

wow, and to think I almost, ALMOST, read your super long troll story.. So glad I didnt. Run along little troll, run along.

        • DCinAZ says:

Why are you even here? You SEC fans are so insecure that you have to invade other people’s message forums to defend your team’s poor performance? LMAO!!! This is why the entire nation is mocking you, and justifiably so. You are the most intellectually dainty and sensitive people in the country. You people have become a national joke.

        • Zack says:

There’s only a handful of players on kstate’s roster that ou would want and that’s being generous. Lockett is probably the only guy ou would want. My point is that kstate has no where near the athletes ou has. But did I say ou would destroy auburn? No I said lsu would and I’m sure a&m will be close and if auburn ends up with 3 loses then there’s no chance of ou exposing them. Likewise if ou has 2 loses there’s no chance auburn takes care of business like Alabama failed to do.
Do you think that win last night will look good if kstate loses 3 or 4 conference games?
Also the excuse of saying “we played like crap and still won” is a dumb excuse. Often the other team is the reason for causing a poor performance, meanwhile kstate is the one who had multiple turnovers and missed field goals. What mistakes was auburn forced into making? Not running the ball through the holes?
But I do have to give you credit for not beating your sec drum.

        • ToatsMcGoats says:

          1. OUr DB’s are night and day from KSU’s, so Marshall’s horrible passing would be a no factor.
          2. Yes, we would take a win in Manhattan in front of a hostile crowd, and we do…every season.
          3. OSU gave FSU a game, so bragging about that is not as awesome of a point as you might think.
          4. 2012 KSU and 2014 KSU…laughable comparison.
          5. Auburn hasn’t played Tennessee yet, so watch yourself there
          6. It’s AD, not AP.
          7. When you say that the expectations for OU are different than Bama’s then you prove your ignorance about OU’s fans. This disqualifies you from making any valid comment on OU’s expectations.
          8. In closing, you can trot out the “unmotivated” excuse all you want, but they (Bama) fought that entire game. That doesn’t come from an unmotivated team. They were out fought plain and simple.

          • Stats says:

Toats, I especially agree with you on #8. I dare anyone to go back and watch the game from the beginning and show me where Alabama looked unmotivated. They certainly didn’t look unmotivated when they scored a TD on the opening drive, and they still didn’t look unmotivated when they forced a punt to give them an opportunity to tie at the end of the game.

          • ToatsMcGoats says:

Exactly. Watching the players reactions to certain plays gives it away as well. They were motivated, and they came to play…so did the Sooners…

    • DCinAZ says:

“but there was no fight in those Elephants. They just wanted the 2013-2014 season to end.”

      What?

      • thebigdroot says:

SEC excuse #2 “They weren’t motivated.”

        • DCinAZ says:

LOL….they have to lie to themselves to protect their collective esteem from the barbaric forces of reality = SEC fans.

          • thebigdroot says:

Pretty much. You know we see it with fans of certain teams all the time, but a whole conference of fans who are go down the ‘Quick Reference Excuse Guide to SEC loses’ is unusual.

          • DCinAZ says:

SEC reminds me of the old Soviet Union and the Olympics. It’s a collective of like-minded people who’s allegiance and personal esteem is tied to the accomplishments of the state (SEC) and it’s athletes, complete with a state run media (ESPN) who is constantly propagandizing on their behalf and cheering the comrades on to victory!

And they’ll go to any lengths to win, because it’s a matter of pride for the state to which the comrades are all emotionally tied (like stealing other team’s signals/Auburn). When the state loses or underperforms, it was always due to corruption or other outside forces of some kind. If they don’t win the natty this year, I suspect we’ll start seeing coaches executed and athletes banished to years of hard labor.

          • thebigdroot says:

They just disappear in the middle of the night to never be seen or heard from again.

          • Scott Morris says:

I’m not sure you can steal something that the whole stadium can see or has access to. Don’t hate our state because it’s better than yours in football. And I’m sure you don’t really think so–it’s just a poor attempt at humor–but not all SEC fans and or athletes think alike. BTW, were you there to experience the old Soviet Union? If so, I’d love to hear about it…I mean, when you’re not trying make jokes about it.

          • DCinAZ says:

“Our state is better than your state”

Like a true collective comrade. LOL!!!

My home state is OK. You’re state is not better than my state in football. And yes I grew up during the cold war. Now run along comrade. The state is missing a lackey.

          • Jed says:

What would you like to know about it?

          • blaster1371 says:

Olympics dude… Occurred outside the Soviet Union except in 1980. Suppose history or world cultures aren’t topics of study in Gump country.

          • ToatsMcGoats says:

            Perfect.

    • SamSooner says:

Scott, I need clarification on your comment about bama being glad the season was over. I’m not sure OU is getting enough respect for that win.

    • Daddy R says:

really? so AJ McCarron and any other senior wanted no part in playing their last game in college eh? hahahah, those elephants had plenty of fight, they just weren’t expecting a Sooner team that had more…

But thanks for the best wishes!

    • j l says:

lol, you dont want any part of our defense, if kansas state can hold you to 20. I mean, iowa state put up 28 on KSU.

Our front 7 would absolutely murder than running game.

    • Brad Warren says:

More garbage from an sec fan. Shocking. Lol.

    • leatherneck1061 says:

So pitiful. You just had to romp over here and find some Sooner fan site to get that off your chest and hopefully find some validation. I guess your insecurity is understandable after getting exposed last night, but still…..just pitiful…..lol.

      • Scott Morris says:

Methinks thou dost protest too much about insecurity.

        • DCinAZ says:

          ^^^^^^

LMAO!! This clown is a JOKE!

          • SamSooner says:

My fellow Sooner fans, we have gone down that rabbit hole. time to go home. But before I do, I will leave you with Alice’s belief that there are six/seven impossible things:

            1. There’s a potion that can make you shrink.
            2. And a cake that can make you grow.
            3. Animals can talk.
            4. Cats can disappear.
            5. There is a place called Wonderland.
            6. I can slay the Jabberwocky.

            7. OU BEATS ALABAMA IN THE SUGAR BOWL!!!

        • Buster Rhymes 4 says:

insecurity!? Whois trolling who? We must have the whole SEC worried. Not only did we kick your tails AGAIN, but ATM and Mizzou (Big 12 bottom feeders) are taking your teams to the woodshed! Hell… we will be calling the SEC the Big 12 east before to long. And why does Alabama claims national championships that they clearly weren’t the best team that year. Yeah, Alabama has had a nice run (thanks to espn) but that time is coming to a end! Our tradition takes a back seat to none. Heck…Alabama has only 5 conference championships in 32 years. Lol… Our little brother would have ran Alabama or LSU out of the gym 3 years ago! So that natty doesn’t even count outside SEC country. So go back to your little hole you call a state and put your teeth back in mouth and we will see you at the end of the year. That is if they take a 3 loss Alabama team (which they will). Have great day!,

    • SoonerinLondon says:

Man, this is getting old. I’m beginning to wonder who is really more insecure. It’s tough for Bama to have a losing record against the Sooners, and be 0-3 against Stoops, but at some point the elephant has to plod on.

      • DCinAZ says:

Well you heard Auburn’s call on the game and how they considered it a “miracle!”, and then OU just piss pounds Alabama in the SB and steals all of their thunder. That’s their mentality. They’re #2 in their state so they’re glorified OSU fans. They need to believe they pulled off the “unthinkable!”, so they convinced themselves Alabama wasn’t playing hard when OU monkey stomped them. That’s why he’s here.

      • blaster1371 says:

Yep. If they are so great and Saban is wonderful then they should have had no problem being ready to play. It’s not like Alabama was on a 47 game winning streak. What do they have to be bored about, many were playing for draft position too.

    • DCinAZ says:

“There was a lot of HOLDING!!”

The excuse battle cry of an overrated turd of a team. Pathetic.

    • rphokc says:

……..don’t necessarily disagree with much of what you said but could do without the smack artist tone……..as a cfb fan, look forward to some of your bigger games down the line…….you did win last nite which good teams do, but you did dodge a real bullet….snyder’s teams can be dangerous……you might give them some deserved credit unless it’s beneath you……

    • pitbull17 says:

You’re a little “touched” aren’t you? Bless your little heart.

    • ToatsMcGoats says:

You should be a little less aware of the “missed holding” calls and more aware of the 19 points left on the field. K-State played like crap last night and still beat the pants off of Auburn. Coach Stoops and conference envy…not when our middle-of-the-pack teams take your upper tier teams to the wire…

    • RBear says:

Doubt your coach is making excuses like you are.

    • Clint Lenard says:

LOL K-State was the one that got away with all the holding? Wow, I thought alternate uniforms were weird, but didn’t ever think teams would switch with the other team. That’s neat.

    • EasTex says:

False face must hide what the false heart doth know.
      (Macbeth)

  • Kody K. says:

Talan has a definite nose for the football. I always scrutinize the underrated kids harder and he passes the film test. A player that has a natural propensity to find the football is such a blessing and definitely a quality unacknowledged in most scouting reports…..because it’s immeasurable. Talan looks like a good find K.

  • longshot Sooner says:

I know this kid personally he is a great kid off of the field and one heck of a player on the field. I know he may not be OU/OSU ready but he can flat out play…. Tell me what you think of Josh, I know he has a few offers as of lately. I know Rice has recently offered but Ids like to see him get a few more looks. http://www.warrior-nation.com/video-football-josh-parton-class-of-2015-wrcb-jr-football-highlights/

    • thebigdroot says:

Good speed not elite. Very good vision and field awareness. Finds open field when the QB has to scramble. No expert here, just my opinion.

      • longshot Sooner says:

Thanks Root! I sure hope he gets the opportunity to play at the next level!

        • thebigdroot says:

I would definately say he should. High Schools in Oklahoma don’t get the credit they deserve for the talent in them in. Too many kids with talent can’t make it to these camps because they don’t have the money. So push his tape as hard as you can. Hopefully somebody with more knowledge than me can properly break it down and maybe get it in front of a coach somewhere.

  • Defend Colfax says:

    Please don’t feed the trolls.

  • Jed says:

Note, though that Minkota makes excellent trolling motors.

  • James says:

It would be great to get good news on mayfield soon. I would bet that the coaches will “remove the handcuffs” on TK at least to some degree if mayfield is the backup.

  • James D-Space says:

Man I would live to see Baker become eligible. I would also like to see another WR emerge, specifically a deep threat to stretch the field. Anyone have an idea who that might be?

    • RBear says:

Just imagining what this team would have been like had ALL of the rulings gone our way or off-the-field troubles not happened:

      Shannon
      Mixon
      DGB
      Mayfield

WOW is about all that needs to be said.

      BOOMER!

  • Zack says:

Brainiacs if you had to guess or project who you think ends up being those last 10-12 commits? And do you see any decommits from the current class?

  • Shelby is a Patriot says:

If all goes well, this could be a really great Class. Also, the Auburn trolling/feeding was fun to read. I missed all the fun, I guess.

  • boomersooner says:

I don’t know who it was that was talking about respecting Bob more with the way they are handling everything, but they nailed it. It stinks for Shannon. It stinks for DGB. It stinks for Mixon. But with all the posturing being done with the “save face” set, to completely reverse course nowadays and not let guys play until legal issues are resolved, to me that’s the way to go. I mean, you’re supposed to be innocent until proven guilty, but that doesn’t mean you necessarily have to keep playing sports. To set the bar high and not look back, it sets a precedent that says if you screw up we don’t have to play you. And now the NFL and FSU are turning tail and following suit. To me, Bob is the best coach in major college sports and pro sports. Integrity is a very awesome thing to have these days and Bob has it in spades

    • Zack says:

Integrity in the spot light is a very rare thing these days as well. But more often than not bob, joe c, and boren have gotten it right. And I think for their responses to those situations, people and especially parents of players will trust the university to help their sons mature. Where fsu for example will bend the rules for a player to the point they can’t control him.

  • ToatsMcGoats says:

Zack Sanchez = young Bob Marley??

  • Ed Cotter says:

Wow, only Corso of the game day crew thinks that OU is going to win. Man I hope the Sooners D comes out and just lights up Trickett and the WVU offense.

    • Daddy R says:

Only 1, and its Corso?? ha!

    • JJsooner1 says:

Not gonna watch Gameday until they come to Norman. My own private way to protest the SEC BS.

    • paganpink says:

And how about the notion that it’s special teams that will make the difference? I honestly doubt it. And I’m disappointed in Herbstreit who is usually a better predictor of success, LOL, although he is correct in mentioning Striker for the Heisman and said he is playing as well as any player, offense or defense, in the country. Corso, of course, is usually wrong. But not today!

  • Katyboomer says:

AT&T always seems to show support for ou. Like the new one with the IT guys holding the OU sleeping bag.

  • Daddy R says:

    Quick story..

I live in Denver, and last week during the Tennessee game, I had to leave to pick up my wife from work. On the way home, at a stoplight, she saw a guy with a Texas sweatshirt on walking his dog, and said “eww…”
So naturally, being a native of Oklahoma for 31 years, I rolled down the window and yelled at him, “TEXAS SUCKS!!!!!!” He immediately had this look about him of, “NOOO! not here too!”

I thought it was a fantastic lesson learned for my two boys, ages 3 and 5.
    haha

    Moral to the story,
    TEXAS SUCKS!

    BOOMER!!

    • ToatsMcGoats says:

I somehow missed this! Thanks for the link!

      • boomersooner says:

i agree with k. that thing coulda been and shoulda been much better. like he said, if it was an sec player, that guy would probly win the heisman, and be drafted first overall just based off of a 3 minute segment on a JV journalistic sports station

  • Sooner Ray says:

Bama fumbles twice, Florida scores twice! HAHAHAHA!!

  • boomersooner says:

reason #999,999 to hate michigan…their enormous pieces of crap for players. obvious wilson is hurt and they got guys falling on him talking trash. if they never win another game, it would not hurt my feelings

  • Ed Cotter says:

We’ve had a Kendal Thompson sighting in Michigan. Utah’s starting QB was flipped out of bounds and landed on his head. Looked awful and they took him to the locker room.

  • Ed Cotter says:

Uh, KT just threw a pick six!

  • boomersooner says:

wow. florida is not good. they won’t mention that tho, they’ll talk about how awesome bama is and will probly move florida up a few spots just for being bama’s opponent for the week

    • Zack says:

Yeah they will overlook the close game vs Kentucky and focus on the close 1st quarter of the bama game.

  • Ed Cotter says:

Ykili Ross’s team, Riverside Poly ran their record to 3-0 with a 23-20 win over Riverside King. Not sure how Ykili did most of the game, but he did have an INT to end the game as King was driving toward their endzone.

  • Dlee914 says:

I heard a rumor that LSU and Missouri didt really care about their home games this week. Oh, and they were held all game. 🙂

  • Zack says:

Saw on 247 that Arkansas fans think they have a great shot to land Barnett after his visit. Don’t have access so didn’t read the story but from the comments it seems like the story is slanted for the Arkansas fans.

  • Zack says:

Also ryan newsome tweeted at malik jefferson saying they should do the whole college thing together. From what I can tell ou and texas are the only 2 they have in common on their top 5s.
